NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE
I would just like to clarify some things…
Jace knows who clary really is
Jocelyn also knows - but has not yet told anyone
Everyone BUT JACE knows about Clary's demon blood
Everyone is aware that 'Valentines daughter' is alive
When people say CLARISSA they are speaking about VALENTINES DAUGHTER.
When people say CLARY that means they are speaking about CLARY.
Hope that makes sense - will help you do identify who knows and who doesnt'.
Hope that cleared some things up!
Chapter 18…
{Clary's POV}
Jace had left a while ago, he said it would be too noticeable if we were both unaccounted for.
So he left me in his room and told me to get some rest.
It must have been about 8 in the evening now.
Although outside the door I could still hear shadowhunters rushing around, the Institute would be on full alert now.
Jace had told me to take anything I needed from his room.
Firstly I had taken advantage of this and had a hot shower.
It was amazing, my skin soaking up the hot water.
I found myself giggling slightly at the fact that Jace had shampoo and conditioner.
So that's why his hair is so perfect.
I thought.
I looked down at the bottom of the shower and saw all of the bloody water wash down the drain.
I had nearly forgotten about my head injury.
Though it had mostly healed up by now, a lot of the blood in the water was just some bits stuck in my hair.
I stepped out of the shower and realised that I would no way in hell put on my old clothes.
Wrapping my towel around me and tying it just above my breasts, I stepped out of the bathroom.
I walked over to what had to be Jace's clothing draws.
And pulled out a black, button-up shirt.
I shrugged it on and did up the buttons.
Strolling over to the bed I crawled in and curled up.
I inhaled deeply and lavished in the scent of the shirt - it smelt just like him.
As if he were laying in bed right with me.
I shook my head viciously.
No Clary. Do not allow yourself to go there.
You will just get hurt.
{Jace's POV}
The second I had left Clary I had jogged to the central room, this room had all of the tracking maps and data.
This was where I would most likely find the others.
I was proven right, as the second I padded in I felt a hand grab at my shoulder.
It was my father.
"There you are Jace, where have you been?"
"I… uh… I-"
"That doesn't matter - we need you in the interview room. Come with me"
Thankfully my father had cut me off - I hadn't yet thought of an excuse as to where I had been.
As Stephen and I advanced into the room I felt 8 pairs of eyes rest on me.
"Good Jace you are back" my mother exclaimed.
"We need to catch you up to speed"
Luke stated.
"What could there be other than 'Valentine is alive'?"
I asked impatiently.
It was Jocelyn that replied next,
"Valentine is no longer the largest threat the Clave is facing. It is my daughter."
She concealed her emotion well when she spoke.
"Daughter?"
I queried.
"Yes. Valentine and I had a daughter - Clarissa."
I could feel my face pale slightly - they were talking about Clary.
But how could she be a bigger threat than Valentine?
I allowed Jocelyn to continue,
"Whilst I was pregnant with Clary, I was not aware of it at the time. But Valentine had been injecting the baby with demon blood - telling me lies, that it was something else."
My eyes widened.
Clary has demon blood.
At my startled face, Jocelyn explained further,
"So Clarissa has enhanced abilities. She is half nephilim, half demon. She shares the blood of Lilith. And we have reason to believe that if Valentine survived that fire, she did also."
I had to be sure of what I was hearing,
"When you say enhanced abilities what do you mean?"
"Imagine all of your shadowhunter abilities turned up to 150%. That is the best understanding I have of it. Whenever Clarissa used these powers, well when she was little her eyes would cloud do a penetrating black"
I instinctively looked over at Izzy, she returned my glance with a worried one of her own.
Now Izzy knew.
It felt like a weight being lifted off my shoulders, but at the same time. The more people that knew - the more danger Clary was going to be in.
"Say we find her, what are we going to do. From what Jocelyn has said I don't think any prison cell could hold such a monster"
Jocelyn cringed away at the notion of her daughter being referred to as a monster.
Maryse subtly glared daggers at her husband.
"I am sure what Robert meant to say is that, with these abilities she has. We may not be able to keep her captured."
Maryse corrected in a more comforting tone.
"This all depends on whether we can catch her in the first place."
Alec reminded everyone.
Next to him, Jon was staring at the floor. I felt bad for him - it was one thing to discover you had a sister.
But completely another to discover she was the child of the mother of all demons.
He looked crushed.
"No Robert is right. We cannot contain her if she was unwilling"
Everyone looked at Jocelyn in startlement,
"If we were to come into any contact with Clarissa - she must be killed."
Everyone stared at Jocelyn with their mouths gaping open.
She had just set a death sentence upon her own child's head.
"Jocel-"
Luke began, but Jocelyn had already started walking away.
Luke made to go after her - but Jon pulled his arm back.
"I got this one dad."
Luke replied with a nod.
{Valentine's POV}
"SHE DID WHAT"
"I speak only the truth, my Lord."
Anger pulsated through my veins uncontrollably.
I walked over to Amatis, grabbed her by the throat and pushed her up against the wall.
"You are absolutely certain!" I shouted in her face.
I knew she was struggling to breathe but I didn't care.
"Ye...Ye...Yes."
I dropped her to the floor and watched her gasp for breath before fleeing the room.
Smart move. I was a bad man to be around when angry, but this, this was different.
My whole life I had worked to acquire the mortal instruments.
And my own blood had denied me of that.
I think it's time I sent my darling Clarissa a message.
"Pangborn" I snapped.
As he stepped through the door I barked some orders at him and dismissed him.
Oh darling daughter, I am looking forward to our next meeting.
{Clary's POV}
I must have drifted off to sleep fairly quickly, because when I was woken by a sharp shake I saw that Jace's clock only read 10pm.
"Clarissa" the voice hissed.
"Yes?" I replied rather hesitantly.
Realising I was weaponless I mentally cursed myself. I normally always slept with a dagger under my pillow.
"It is James Wayland. I have received a message from Pangborn."
"Go on," I whispered into the darkness.
"Your father's plans have changed. You are to return to the manor as soon as possible - the Clave are too close to discovering your true identity. We fear some may have already figured it out"
"Ok, how long do I have to get away?"
"He has given you 24 hours to leave. You are to arrive outside the manor by dusk tomorrow."
He gave a short reply.
I guess that was why father like Wayland as an informant - he was very direct and never fussed about anything.
"Ok, now go" I commanded.
I knew Wayland's orders came from my father - but as I was right-hand to my father I did have some authority over the others in the circle.
As soon as I heard the door slam I began pacing around in the room.
It was dimly lit - just the light of the crescent moon pouring through the window.
Could my father know about Jace?
I was confused to find myself worrying about Jace.
But I felt a need to protect him from my father.
And me.
I realised with a pang of sorrow.
The greatest danger to Jace was me.
I hope everyone enjoyed this chapter.
I have got some BIG stuff coming up in the next couple chapters that I think you will LOVE.
Review and tell me what you think !
