You returned to Miyagi after a few days to resume school. Summer Vacation was just around the corner and you'll be spending another week in Tokyo to continue the away games.
The last match did not go well as Hinata was acting strange. You understand that he wanted to be able to fight on his own without relying on Kageyama too much. He wanted to be better but it seems like it's not going well between him and Kageyama.
You finally finished changing back to your uniform. Shimizu had to leave first because she needed to attend some personal matters. Yamaguchi and Tsukishima went ahead as well. You told them that you'll stay a little longer because you need to double-check the gym and the equipment before leaving.
You were almost at the door of the gym when you heard Hinata's shout. He sounded pissed, it was followed by scuffling noise. Having a bad feeling about all of it, you quickly entered the gym to find the freshmen duo fighting. It was nasty that you thought it was a bad idea to get in between them, there was too much struggle. It could lead to some serious physical injury if cannot be stopped. You had no choice but to seek help from the other members left in the locker room. But to your disappointment, the club room was empty, which only means everyone had gone home.
Not far away you see Tanaka, walking away from the gym. You ran to catch him, too nervous about what's happening, you grabbed his wrist in force. He turned to you in surprise, you were pale as a ghost as you told him what's happening.
"Tanaka-senpai! H—Hinata and Kageyama, t—they're fighting at the gym," You managed to say between your breaths.
Without delay, he ran back to the direction of the gym with you in tow. The fight had gone out of control with the duo already on each other's neck. Tanaka removed his shoes in a haste and rushed up towards the two. Both of his fists collided against their jaws, which got them separated. Hinata and Kageyama plopped down on the floor with their jaws throbbing painfully from the punch.
"What the hell do you both think you're doing!?" Tanaka's voiced boomed inside the gym.
The duo remained silent as they ease their throbbing jaws. You ran to get a first aid kit inside the club room. Tanaka decided to stay just to make sure there won't be another round from the two while you attend to their bruises. There was a pang of pain in your chest as you treat their wounds. That was the worst fight you've seen so far and they were physically hurting each other. Finally done with everything, the four of you left the school ground.
Kageyama insisted on walking you home as an apology for what happened. He was silent the whole walk, you're worried about him and the effects of the fight. You know damn well they will start to avoid each other after what happened. Kageyama had his head downcasted with both of his hands shoved inside his jacket.
"I'm fine from here, Tobio." You said, "You should probably get home and rest. Be careful on your way home,"
Kageyama can only nod at what you said. With a small bow, he turned to his heel and started walking away. A frown appeared on your face as you watch his back disappear into the night.
The next day, your practice was postponed due to a monthly inspection. You stayed while Tsukishima went home ahead. Yamaguchi went to Shimada's Store for his everyday special training. It was just you and some other students in the library. It has gotten pretty boring eventually, so you left the school grounds. You see Kageyama just leaving the gates of the school and decided to run after him.
"Tobio!" You called out while running after him.
Kageyama turned to see you out of breath, "(L/N)-san?"
You smiled at him, "Where are you going?"
"I don't know..."
You grabbed his wrist, "Come on, let's take a walk!"
You really didn't know how to cheer Kageyama up. He's been a friend of yours ever since you can remember. The two of you end up in a pastry shop in the bustling part of the town.
"Oh my!" Your eyes sparkled as you stared at the cakes on the glass display. It's been a while since you've eaten and you thought this would be the right time, "I'll have (Favorite Cake) and a large (Favorite Beverage). What do you want Tobio? My treat!"
Kageyama was surprised, he's not really fond of sweets but he was too shy to say no, "U—Uh, thank you, (L/N)-san. I'll have the cream puffs and a vanilla milkshake, I guess?"
You enjoyed eating your pastries while having a small talk with Kageyama, it was a relief that he can still talk casually with you. Hoping this would take his mind off of the things he's been pondering about since yesterday.
"Um, (L/N)-san, about yesterday..." Kageyama trailed off, "I'm really sorry about what happened,"
"It's been a while since I saw the two of you fight, but yesterday was intense though. How's your bruise? I know Tanaka-senpai packs up a punch." You said.
Kageyama unconsciously touches the bandage in the corner of his left lips, "Yeah, that literally knocked us out."
"Well, I guess it only means that the two of you should take a time off from each other. I know you're trying your best to be better. The lost we had from Seijoh was still haunting the both of you, I know Hinata's scared to get blocked and make the same mistake again. And you," Kageyama looked at you, "I remember that you promise yourself that you don't want to throw anymore tosses that you should apologize for. I clearly understand,"
Kageyama stirred the content of his glass before taking a sip, "I just want to be stronger,"
"The stronger the opponent, the longer you stay in court. You really love volleyball," You smiled at him.
"Did you ever regret your decision not to play volleyball anymore?" Kageyama asked.
You stared down on your cake, "There's no such thing as wrong decisions, unless you regret it at some point. But even wrong decisions can be corrected as we get a clearer result after. A mix of wrong and right. So, to answer your question, I did not regret anything. I get to be a part of your club, right? Having to meet everyone was the biggest blessing I have received so far."
"You're always nice, (L/N)-san. When everyone turned their backs on me after messing up our final match in middle school, you were still there for me and even now, you still do." Kageyama had a gentle smile on his face.
"You can always count on me!" You grinned at him.
Kageyama nodded, "Thank you."
After the pastry shop, you decided to take a walk towards the nearest park. Kageyama following you from behind. Still, in his own little world, his head downcasted as he walked, eventually bumping into a kid. He turns to look at the kid with one of his intimidating looks. He didn't mean to scare the kid, he was just so deep in his thoughts that he wasn't able to change his expression. The kid started crying due to being scared at Kageyama's look.
"S—Sorry," The genius setter said.
You couldn't help but smile sheepishly at Kageyama and walked up towards the kid, "I'm sorry about that, onīsan's really in a foul mood right now but he didn't mean it." You said, handing over your handkerchief to him, "You're fine, right?" Your smile immediately made the kid stopped crying.
The kid wiped his face with the handkerchief and gave it back to you but you told him that he can have it. His older brother thanked you and they left.
Kageyama covered his face in embarrassment, "Thank you, (L/N)-san. I didn't mean to be rude." You can sense the frustration lacing his voice.
"It's alright, the kid just got startled." You gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder.
"Tōru! Show me how to serve!" You head turned to the voice, your eyes sparkled to see two familiar faces approaching you.
"Hey! How about showing some respect first?" Oikawa said, clearly annoyed at the kid he's with.
"O—Oikawa-san!" Kageyama stuttered in surprise.
Oikawa turned his head to see Kageyama and then you. You smiled at him while waving your hand at them.
"Ah! (F/N)-nēchan!" Takeru waved his hand excitedly and ran up to you, "Nēchan!"
"It's good to see you, Takeru!" You ruffled his head, "Tōru-nī!"
"(F/N)-chan!" Oikawa ran up and gave you a tight hug, "Oh! I've missed you! Ne, move back to our house, please. It's been lonely without you." Oikawa had this imaginary tears in the corner of his eyes.
"Onīchan, you know I can't do that," You told Oikawa after breaking away from his hug.
"O—Oikawa-san, what are you doing here?" Kageyama asked.
"I'm watching my nephew," He answered with a smug.
"Osu!" Takeru raised his hand as if he was introducing himself.
"O—Osu..." Kageyama awkwardly replied at Takeru, then turned back to Oikawa, "What about the club?"
"We usually have Mondays off," Oikawa answered.
"Ne, Takeru, you want ice cream?" You asked.
Takeru's eyes sparkled, "Can I!?"
You nodded, "My treat,"
"Resting and skipping are two different things. See ya," Oikawa was about to leave when Kageyama tried to stop him.
You noticed that he was trying to ask Oikawa but you're cousin's too stubborn to listen. He's showing his childish side to Kageyama. You comically sweatdropped at his childishness as Kageyama tries to finish his question. The first-year setter was already bowing for him to listen.
"Tōru-nī!" You said, annoyed, "Please hear him out!"
"Takeru," Oikawa took his phone out and gave it to your nephew, "Take a picture. Hold it like this...And press this button. Don't move, Tobio!"
You covered your face in both disbelief and embarrassment as Oikawa poses in front of the camera while giving the picture a title already. Takeru took the shot but he wasn't even impressed.
"Tōru, you're actually happy about this picture? Lame!" Takeru commented it made you snickered.
While Oikawa and Kageyama are having a conversation, you invited Takeru to buy the ice cream you promised him. At the end of their conversation, Kageyama decided to go back to school to check if the gym is available. While you are left with Oikawa and Takeru.
"Ne, (F/N)-chan, are you..." Oikawa turned to you blushing, "Do you like, Tobio?"
You blinked in surprise, you did not expect the question, "It's not like that! Tobio's a friend,"
Oikawa thought for a moment, "Well, you've gotten pretty close to each other. I can't believe you're friends with that weirdo, even though I don't like him."
You chuckled, "It's good to know you don't hate him."
"What difference does it make?! I don't like that kid! I'm gonna beat him in the prefectural qualifiers match!" Oikawa swears to himself.
"Hai, hai," You pat him on the shoulder.
"You should cheer for me!" Oikawa looked at you with pleading eyes.
"I'm cheering both," You answered, "Just to be fair,"
Oikawa pouted, "It's so unfair! I'm your favorite cousin, (F/N)-chan!"
"You shouldn't whine like that if Takeru's with you. You're even more childish than your actual age," You scolded.
"But!" Oikawa gave up, grumbling as you walked with them.
Evening came, you were almost at your house when you saw a figure standing outside. Your eyes narrowed to get a better look at the person. It's a boy, he's wearing a plain white shirt tucked in his denim ripped jeans.
"Oh? Kei?"
"Hm? So, you just got here," It was indeed Tsukishima standing in front of your house.
"What's up?"
"You've forgotten? Mom told me to pick you up for dinner."
"Ah! I forgot! I'm sorry!"
Tsukishima sighed, "Where have you been anyway?"
"I was with Tobio after class," You answered.
"You went on a date with Kageyama?" Tsukishima did not care that he's expression was totally obvious.
"What? Is it surprising?" You cocked an eyebrow at him.
"You have weird taste," Tsukishima said, walking away from you.
"What do you mean by that!? Hey!" You ran after him, "Are you jealous of Tobio? You know you can ask me out on a date." You teased.
Tsukishima flicked your forehead, "In your dreams!"
"You gotta get yourself a girlfriend Kei or you'll end up being grumpy all the time." You said.
Tsukishima clicked his tongue, "Shut up," His cheeks blushing.
