Epilogue

After everything that's been going on, it feels nice to sit and do something relaxing. I wasn't in the mood to even think about the Yogscast in any form, so going on my laptop was no go. The news was too depressing. Thinking my only option was to just sleep or Netflix, I found the small journal I'd pulled from the library earlier. It seemed like a simple thing to read and was intriguing in the premise.

Reopening the first entry, I recalled my first question. The Enterprise, a ship sent out between the two settler ships. I opened my laptop to briefly search if this ship was legitimate, deciding whether the journal was fiction or truth. First site was from the Mojang University. The title, however, was disarming.

Enterprise: A Silent Tragedy

After the massacre of the Mojang settlement crew, the future of Minecraftia was left in the open for several years. It was decided to further research the plan. After much deliberation, the ship Enterprise was sent as an exploratory vessel, led by Captain Jen Bergensten whom had lost family members aboard the Mojang. The vessel was a NCC-1701, designed with the latest scanners and means of planetary surveying without the need for a landing crew or destruction of the planet's surface. It was equipped with zero weapons. There was a crew of over 1,000.

According to backup logs, downloaded from the ship periodically, the ship arrived at the planet within the allotted time of three months. They spent three days in orbit with no apparent system issues or registered complaints. On the fourth day, at 2217 hours, the ship reported a massive system failure. By 2245, the engines were overcharged, and alarms were armed, however, they failed to activate. It is assumed that none of the crew were aware of the impending disaster.

By 2300, the ship's engine erupted, causing a chain reaction that detonated the entire vessel. Due to the alarm malfunction, no crew were evacuated and therefore no survivors were listed from the impending accident. All crew members were listed as deceased and next of kin were notified. However, due to rising tension concerning the colonization of Minecraftia, the destruction of the Enterprise was not made public until after the second and third settler ships had landed.

All higher members of the International Space Program say the accident was unavoidable and caused by a system malfunction on multiple levels that could not be detected until they detonated. While they apologize and sympathize with the losses caused by this event, they assure future fliers and others that the malfunctions were not the result of the ISP.
