"So he has the ability to control people by using their darkest memories and feelings against them?" Ray said. Ray and Paul was at the top of a police station and was going over what Paul learned from Balancer.

"Something like that." Paul said. "He uses fear to have them work with him willingly or he breaks their will."

"But what about those who don't remember being brainwashed?" Ray questioned.

"He must have caught them by surprise. It also seemed like he had control over this psychic plane he had." Paul said. "His powers are unlike anything I've ever faced before."

"So how are we going to beat him? Sounds like he can turn anyone into his slave." Ray said. "Either way, we need to catch him fast. That bastard has got to pay for what he did to Captain Wolve."

"I hear you. I want to avenge her as well." Paul said. "However, let's keep in mind that Balancer is a different person in the same body. The real mind of that body belongs to Mr. Lang. He just needs some mental help to keep that other personality of his in check."

"You're right. We cops can't let personal feelings blind us from doing our job the right way." Ray said. "It will be a lot easier for a lot of people if we can get the real Mr. Ling out. Anyway, I need to get going. It's early in the morning and I need to get something for all cops."

"What would that be? Donuts?" Paul joked.

"No. That's too stereotypical." Ray said.

…..

Donut Shop

That was exactly where Ray was heading. It was Ray's turn to pick up the donuts for the station. He reached out for his wallet and handed over the money as they pulled out a box of a dozen donuts.

"Thank you." Ray said as he was on his way out. Ray was about to get in his car, but he bumped into someone and nearly dropped the box.

"Watch it."

"You bumped into me." Ray said. The guy was wearing a trench coat and a hat. That was suspicious enough, but Ray caught a look at his face for a second and Ray thought he looked familiar. Ray put the box in his car, but he followed after the guy that bumped into him instead. He followed the guy down to an alley and met someone else. He hid behind some dumpsters and tried listening in

"Were you followed?"

"Nope. I don't think so." The guy Ray followed took off the hat and the coat and the other guy ditched his clothes. Ray was surprised to see it was really Red, the leader of the Rainbow Gang, with Green.

"Red? Green? I thought we had those two and the rest of the Rainbow Gang locked up." Ray said. "Don't tell me someone actually bailed them and the rest of them out."

"Let's go." Red said as he opened the door a door in the alleyway and the two of them went inside. Ray moved quickly and went through the door himself. He knew nothing good comes from the Rainbow Gang and it's his job as a cop to try and stop them. Ray carefully moved through the building. He saw the two of them go into one room and he stayed out of sight.

"There you two are."

"We could have met with you after you bailed us out, sir." Green said.

"No, we couldn't." Red said. "The police would have gotten suspicious if they saw that. We had to shake them off our trail first."

"Hold on. There's only one person these guys answer to." Ray said as he looked inside and he saw he was right. It was Goldberg.

"So what's the plan? How are we going to get at Librium?" Red questioned. "They have your file. They know all our locations. They already stole from your artillery."

"I'm not really concerned with those fools." Goldberg said. All of them were surprised to hear him say that.

"But don't you want to get back what was stolen from you?" Green said.

"There's no need to worry about such things." Goldberg said. "I'm confident that the police and that spider can handle all of that for me. Once they get this Librium out of the way, we can move on to our big plans. I'm sure we'll get back what we lost."

"What is he talking about?" Ray questioned. "Is Goldberg planning to raid the police department? He also says he needs Librium out of the way. So he's using us to do his dirty work. That fat creep. I better let Paul and the others know what's going on." Ray reached for his phone.

"One more thing." Goldberg said as he got up from his seat. Ray was careful with how he handled this. He thought he was going to say more and Ray listened carefully. Ray was surprised as Goldberg reached around the door and grabbed Ray with him slamming Ray against the wall. "You two need to work on your sneaking."

"Let go." Ray said. He thought Goldberg was fat, but he's starting to see some of that is muscle.

"A police officer should know that it's not nice to eavesdrop. It looks like we're going to have to give him a special treat." Goldberg said and Ray didn't like the sound of that.

Paul

Paul swung around the city and kept his eyes open for any trouble. Paul landed down on a building and everything seemed pretty good.

"No trouble. Everything seems quiet." Paul said. "That's good. I might be able to make a last-minute dinner date with Jean." Paul shot a line and started swinging. However, as Paul started swinging, he saw someone on a nearby roof and was waving to him. "I don't think that's a friendly hello." Paul swung over and landed on that roof to be met with a police officer.

"Uh… Hi. This is weird. The police don't usually ask for help."

"Is something wrong?" Paul asked.

"Well, I hear you're acquainted with one of our men. Ray Ritsin."

"Ray? Yeah. Is there something wrong with him?" Paul said.

"Well, it might be nothing, but this is unusual behavior for him. He went to get the station some donuts earlier today."

"I knew it." Paul said.

"However, he should have been back by now. He's not answering either. Ray might still be a rookie, but he's responsible. If he was going to be late or so, he would have informed us ahead of time."

"You think something may have happened to him?" Paul said. He didn't like the sound of that. "I haven't heard anything from him, but I'll look. Which donut place would he have gone?"

"The one down at the intersection of East and 33rd."

"I'm on it." Paul said as he started swinging. That really didn't sound like Ray and Paul needs to figure out what's going on with him.

…..

The Donut Shop

Paul swung over to the place and he could see there was a police car parked in front of it. He figured that had to belong to Ray. Paul landed down by the car and could see the box of donuts inside.

"Looks like he got the donuts, but something stopped him from driving back." Paul said. He looked around and didn't see a trail of Ray anywhere. "Where did he go?"

…..

Ray

Ray got caught by Goldberg and was now his prisoner. He was tied to a chair and it didn't seem like it was all that good for him.

"You're a sneaky one for getting here." Goldberg said. "I'm a little disappointed, Red and Green. You two couldn't notice when this little cop was following you."

"Sorry." Both of them said.

"So now that you got me, how about you tell me what's going to happen?" Ray said. "You mentioned taking back what's yours from the police. Keep in mind that we're aware of that hidden arsenal you had that Librium raided. What did you need all those weapons for?" As Ray was trying to keep him talking, Ray was working on a little something.

"Why do you expect me to tell you?" Goldberg said.

"Well, you have me tied up. I'm not going anywhere." Ray said. "So what's the harm?"

"The harm is that, if by some miracle that you manage to escape here alive, you'll go and tell the rest of the police." Goldberg said. "That would spoil the fun with the big surprises I have planned. I must admit that it was awfully brave of you to come here by yourself. What's your name again?"

"Don't you recognize me?" Ray said. "We actually met once before. My ex-girlfriend from high school actually worked with you jerks before. You agreed to help her get back at Paul, in exchange, you get Spider-Man. That was before we all knew Paul and Spider-Man was the same person."

"I've done a lot of things that a lot of people would disagree with. You can't expect me to remember all of it." Goldberg said.

"I know about some of the things you've done. You're deplorable." Ray said. "You try to dictate over people and crush their spirits or do some harm to them. Anyone who would cross you, you make sure they pay."

"Come on. You make me sound like I'm such a bad guy." Goldberg said as he walked around him. "If I come across that way, there's a reason. In all my years, I've learned that there's only one way for you to get through to people. You need to show them who is in charge. You need to show that you're not going to be pushed around."

"Who could push you? You weigh as much as an elephant." Ray said.

"And I thought Spider-Man was the funny one." Goldberg said. "Do you want to know why I'm call Goldberg?" He came behind Ray and moved his chair to tilt towards him so Ray is looking at him. "It's because I'm tough, durable, and strong like gold and an iceberg. This city will be mine one day. With what I have planned, no one will get in my way. I'll take this city from the ground up."

"You're planning something big, aren't you?" Ray said. "Do you really think you and the Rainbow Gang will really be enough to pull whatever this big plan of yours is?"

"To be perfectly honest, no." Goldberg said. "I can't trust those imbeciles alone to get done with all of it." Red and Green felt self-disapproval from that statement. "You're right. I do have something big planned, but it's going to require more people. You know about my hidden supply of weapons, don't you? Do you really think it's just for us?"

"It's not? What are you talking about?" Ray said. "Who else is in on this? What are you planning?"

"I told you that I'm not saying anything." Goldberg said. "In fact, I should probably stop talking before I say too much." He shoved the chair and Ray dropped to the floor.

"What should we do with him?" Green asked.

"I say we just finish him off right now." Red said as he pulled out his sword and held it near Ray's head. "With your permission of course, Goldberg, I can finish him off right now if you like."

"Sure. Why not? I can't think of a better way to finish him off. It's better to do it now." Goldberg said.

"Why are you two serving him? You heard him yourselves." Ray said. "He has no respect or trust in you guys."

"Trying to appeal to us? Trying to get us to turn against him because of how he treats us?" Red said as he raised his sword. "It won't work. We're not like Blite when she betrayed us. This is how we want it. Now get ready to say your goodbye." Red was ready to finish Ray off and Ray was a little scared on what was going to happen. Red swung down and Ray closed his eyes, but that's when he missed Paul smashing through the wall.

"I don't think so!" Paul said as he kicked Red away from Ray. The sword cut against Ray's head, but he was still alive. "Ray!"

"Paul? Is that you?" Ray said as Ray opened his eyes.

"Yeah. Are you okay?" Paul said.

"I'm tied to a chair, my face is against the floor, and I just got cut across my head. Do I sound okay?" Ray said.

"Spider-Man?" Goldberg said and Paul turned to him.

"Goldberg… Still living physically large, but not really in charge." Paul said.

"How did you even find us here?" Goldberg said. Ray chuckled and Goldberg turned to him.

"You really were talking too much." Ray said. "While I was busy keeping you talking, I reached for my phone and was able to contact a little help. You bragged so much that you didn't even noticed. You should have pushed me down a little sooner."

"What?!" Goldberg said. He looked and saw Ray dropped his phone when he pushed him down. "Sneaky little punk."

"Nice work, Ray. You're one hell of a cop. I have no idea what's going on here, but I'm taking you down." Paul said.

"I don't think so." Goldberg said. Red got back up and went on the attack as he swung his sword at him, but Paul jumped to the ceiling and stuck to it and avoided the attack. Paul came down and knocked Red back. Green went in and tried to hit him, but Paul grabbed his arm and tossed him against Red.

"You should really get yourself some better henchmen. These guys are low-class." Paul said.

"They serve their purpose." Goldberg said. "As for you, you'll spin your last web soon enough. Meddling in my affairs as always, but I doubt even you will be to stand in my way."

"I've heard that one before." Paul said.

"I'll actually mean it. This isn't over, bug." Goldberg said and started smashing his fists against the walls. All three of them made a run for it and Goldberg kept smashing his fists against the walls. Paul could feel the place began to shake. Goldberg was weakening the structure and it could collapse around both of them at any moment.

"Time to go." Paul said. He shot a web at Ray and pulled him over to him. Paul carried Ray out of there and got out as fast as they could.

Outside

Paul was able to make it out with Ray. He jumped through a window and they both made it outside just before the room they were in collapsed around them. However, that meant that Goldberg and the others got away.

"That was close. You okay?" Paul asked.

"You should really stop asking that with me in my current situation. Get me out of this chair." Ray said. Paul helped Ray out and was able to get him untied from the chair.

"How's your face? You got cut by that sword?" Paul asked.

"It's fine. It does sting a little, but it's no big deal. I don't think it will leave a scar. Thanks for the save." Ray said.

"What was that all about?" Paul asked. "What were you doing with Goldberg and two the six rainbow doofuses?

"I caught a glimpse of Red when he was disguised and followed him." Ray said. "I thought something suspicious was going on. I was about to alert the police and you about this, but they caught me."

"So did you learn anything in there? Knowing Goldberg, he has some sort of plan." Paul said.

"I did." Ray said. "He mentioned something about retaking what's his once Librium is out of the way. That includes the stuff we took from that hidden arsenal."

"I remember." Paul said.

"Goldberg is up to something big, Paul." Ray said. "Goldberg is aiming to take control of the city, but I'm not entirely sure how he plans on doing that. However, I have a feeling it will happen sometime soon."

"Really?" Paul said. He didn't like the sound of that. Goldberg is planning something and it's coming closer and closer.
