Rose woke up to first and looked at the clock by Jake's bed. It was morning, her family was usually up by this time. She reached for her phone on the nightstand and looked at the string of missed calls and messages from Sam.
Sam: Hey, I told mom and dad you were at Jake's and were probably going to stay the night. They're not happy about it but mom trusts Jake and his mom. She's not talking to dad right now.
Sam: They got off the phone to Jake's mom, they are both going to meet you tomorrow. Now even mom thinks you two are getting too serious. She's suggesting a break. They won't listen to me.
Sam: I miss you.
Sam: Nigel stopped texting, so if it's any consolation he probably thinks I'm not interested.
Sam: He texted. He's busy, but I told him he couldn't message me so much.
Sam: I know you think I'm selfish for wanting to see him, but I like him. I feel a really strong connection with him.
Sam: I miss you. It's hard to sleep knowing you're upset. Hopefully, Jake can make you feel better. I know he can't fix things, but you want more than anything just to be with him. I can tell. I know you.
Then there were the messages from her parents.
Mom: Rose, can we talk?
Dad: I'm sorry. I was upset, you know I love you.
Mom: I love you.
That was it. Not quite as many as Sam, but Sam was her twin. Her best friend. The one thing that did bother Rose was that Sam was still talking to Nigel.
She knew Jake had a long and hard night and she didn't wake him up, but she looked back at the first text Sam sent. Even her mom thought they needed a break…no. No way in hell. She looked at him sleeping and couldn't help but kiss his sleeping figure. She was surprised when he started to kiss back and put his arms around her, pulling her closer.
"Good morning to you too." He said, in between kisses.
He was surprised when he woke up to find Rose's lips on his, but he decided to savor the moment instead of question it.
"I'm glad you're here." He said.
"Me too. You wouldn't believe the drama in my house last night." Rose said.
"Tell me about it?" Jake asked. He needed to know what happened and why Rose was so upset.
"Okay, Sam met this guy, Nigel. She kept texting him all during dinner and my dad took her phone and-"
"Wait." Jake stopped her, "Nigel. Red hair? British accent?" He asked.
"Yeah...how do you know?" Rose asked.
"He's a wizard. He was helping us in our fight against the Shadow Demons last night, and the year before that we fought an Ogre and the Gorgon sisters together. He transferred to our school after you left, that's why you don't know him."
"Well Sam Is head over heels for him. She's known him one day! You know him better than her for god's sake! But she had to make this big deal out of dating him, and my dad decided to use me as an example!" Rose said, her voice rising slightly as she recalled yesterdays events.
"An example?" Jake asked.
"He was like, "Do you want to end up like Rose?" and he meant pregnant. He thinks if Sam dates, she's going to get pregnant because I did. He was so mean; he should appreciate you more than he does. He had the audacity to say you weren't a good person! He said that I was an idiot to believe you were, he called me a liar and a disappointment and Sam only cared about seeing NIGEL!" Rose was upset recalling the memories from yesterday.
"She could do worse. He's a nice guy. I'm not defending Sam, but I think this falls more on your father. He's been against this pregnancy from the start. I'm not saying it's okay because it's not. He was out of line, even if he's scared for Sam…or upset about the situation…he should be able to act like an adult. Parents are there for you no matter what, that's what I was taught. Family is family." Jake said softly.
"I'm so scared of what he has to say today. Sam said my mom thinks we need a break, me and you. I can't. You are so important to me; I can't live without you. I want you there tomorrow for my ultrasound, I want you to see our babies." Rose said.
"I want to be there. Everything will work out. Just wait." Jake promised and kissed her cheek.
She kissed his bare chest and he ran his hands through her hair. She couldn't describe it, but she had this overwhelming desire to kiss Jake. A real kiss. Not a dream kiss. Not a peck on the cheek. A real kiss, with passion and love, and lust.
She hadn't had something like that since the airport. She pressed her lips against his determined to get that kiss. This kiss was better than any kiss they'd shared before she had to admit. He kissed back with such fervor it was easy to just lose herself in the kiss. They kissed like that until they were breathless.
"Wow." Jake said.
"I've been waiting for that." Rose sighed happily.
"Rose…" Jake said
"Yeah?" She asked.
He answered her with another kiss. Feeling along her body, his hands trailed over her breasts through the thin fabric of her shirt. She was able to take off the small piece of fabric easily. He felt like this outfit was bought for an occasion like this.
"Loving the new threads." He said.
"I figured you would. I bought them just for you." Rose whispered with an obvious longing in her voice.
"You're beautiful…" He said kissing her all over. "All of you."
"You're not so bad yourself." Rose said, kissing his nose. She kissed him again, not in the same way as before.
She was teasing him with short, playful kisses, while her hand stroked him through his boxers. It took him by surprise.
"Don't stop." He whispered.
"Tell me you love me." Rose said.
"You know I do."
"I want to hear it." She said, pausing in her movements.
"Don't stop…I love you." He said relieved when she started stroking him again. He wanted more…he needed more.
Rose sensed his urgency and gave him the okay to take off his boxers. He moaned quietly as Rose stroked him without the barrier of his clothing. He continued to kiss her, leaving light marks that would be gone in a few hours.
"JAKE! ROSE! MOM SAYS YOU GUYS HAVE TO COME EAT!" Haley yelled through the door.
"Well…that's one way to kill a mood." Jake said laughing.
Rose laughed and gave him one more kiss before sliding her shirt on.
"You seriously want to wear that around my family?" Jake asked, "That shirt barely covers anything!" He exclaimed.
Rose rolled her eyes. "I have other clothes."
She stood up and opened her bag to show Jake. "See, t-shirt and shorts, family friendly." She said.
"JAKE! MOM SAID IF YOU TWO AREN'T DOWN IN TEN MINUTES SHE'S COMING TO GET YOU!" Haley yelled.
"Tell her we're coming!" Jake said.
"KAY!"
They heard Haley run down the stairs and Jake started to get dressed, Rose just changed clothes and brushed her hair, making herself look presentable. Jake led her to the kitchen where Haley and his parents were. His mom still cooking, his dad smiled at Rose.
"How did you sleep?" he asked.
"I slept great." Jake said, smiling at Rose.
"Me too." Rose said.
"Well come. Sit down! It's so nice to finally talk to you Rose! How are the babies doing today?" Jonathan asked.
"They're doing just fine." Rose said.
"Do you guys have names picked out?" Haley asked.
"Uh…well we keep changing our minds." Rose said.
"What she means is she keeps changing her mind." Jake laughed and kissed her cheek. He sat down beside her.
"Here you go Rose!" Susan said handing her a plate with bacon toast…and
"Eggs." Rose said, suddenly standing up.
"C'mon." Jake said, quickly leading Rose to the downstairs bathroom. He probably should have told his mom eggs made Rose sick.
"Sorry." He said, holding her hair back.
"It's not your fault." Rose said once she finished vomiting, "Do you think your mom is mad?" She asked.
"I think she's confused." Jake said. "We can explain it to her. Do you feel like you can go back in the kitchen without getting sick?" Jake asked.
"I think I'm good." Rose said.
She followed Jake back into the kitchen. Haley was gone and both of his parents were talking quietly.
"Rose! Are you alright? I should've known the smell of eggs would make you sick. I'm sorry." Susan said.
"I'm fine. It's just an unfortunate side effect of being pregnant." She said.
Susan sat next to Jonathan at the table and they motioned for the two teens to sit.
"Rose how do your parents feel about this pregnancy?" Susan asked.
"What do you mean?" Rose asked.
"We don't expect them to be jumping for joy, but are they at least supportive?" Jonathan asked.
"My mom and my sister are, I thought I was making progress with my dad, but…he hasn't really come around yet." Rose said.
"Do we have to talk about this?" Jake asked, knowing it was a touchy subject because of what happened last night.
"We need to know what we are getting ourselves into today for when they visit." Susan said.
"Well they both think I need a break from Jake." Rose said.
"Is that how you feel?" His mom asked.
"No. I really love Jake." Rose said.
"I know he loves you too. You're both just so young." Susan said.
"I know." Rose said.
"Mom, I thought you were supportive." Jake said.
"Raising a child is a different kind of responsibility than protecting New York, Jake." Susan said.
"That's not easy you know." He said.
"I know. It's just different. You have to be gentle with a baby, you can't change a diaper with fire." His mom laughed.
"I know that. I have a lot to learn, but no parent is perfect. We have to figure things out." Jake said.
"Are you willing to do that?" Susan said.
"For Rose? I'm willing to do anything." He said, putting his hand on her stomach… "That feels warm. Do you want some water?" He asked.
"It's not too bad. It actually feels really comforting in the morning." Rose said, she smiled and put her hand over his.
Susan and Jonathan looked at each other and nodded. Anyone who looks at those two could tell how much they loved each other.
"Your grandfather is right, you two do have an interesting relationship." Susan said.
"You have no idea." Jake said.
"When are my parents coming?" Rose asked.
"Soon. That's why I woke you two up." Susan said.
"Next time, a text will do." Jake said.
"I don't want this to become a habit. You two are still young, and I know Jake was gone doing his dragon duties until late last night, but it isn't proper for you two to be sharing a bed." Jonathan said.
"I understand. I was upset last night; this was a one-time thing. Rose promised, "Thank you for letting me stay over on such short notice."
"What happened? If it's not too personal." Susan asked.
"I'm sorry I don't want to talk about it." Rose said.
"We can just tell him about your dad." Jake said.
"They know he's not supportive." Rose said.
"Did he say something?" Susan asked.
"Yeah…he said a lot. I knew he wasn't happy about this; I just didn't know he thought I was such a disappointment. I guess I am." Rose said sadly.
"Everyone makes mistakes. My dad wanted me to marry someone with magical power's, but I insisted on marrying Jonathan. A mortal. He was disappointed, but he came to my wedding and eventually he came around. After all he is Jake's dragon master. He even went through the trouble of getting special permission to train Jake. He might not be supportive now but when he sees those two babies, and how happy you are with them and Jake he may come around. He wouldn't be upset if he didn't care." Susan said.
"I hope you're right." Rose said.
"School is going to be hard." Jonathan said.
"I've actually decided to go the homeschooling route. I'll have to be on bedrest anyways." Rose said.
"That's smart…I like you Rose." Susan said.
Jake smiled; she got his parents approval. She was perfect.
They heard the doorbell. "I'LL GET IT!" Haley yelled from the living room.
She opened the door to Rose's parents and Sam.
"Sam!" She said.
"Hi again cutie!" She said hugging her.
"You've met?" Alison asked.
"Once. I saw her and Jake in a store."
"Do you want to come in?" Haley asked.
"We'd like that. Could you get my sister and Jake?" Sam asked.
"Sure. You guys can sit while you wait." Haley said and went into the kitchen get Jake and Rose.
Adam, Alison and Sam sat down to wait. There was a ding on her Sam's phone.
Nigel: Good morning Samantha. It's a lovely day, just like you. Wondering if you'd be interested in a picnic?
Sam: I'd love to. I'm dealing with a family thing right now, but I should be free in about an hour.
Nigel: Perfect. See you then, lovely.
"Put the phone away, you don't want to make your father angry again." Alison whispered.
Sam frowned. It's not fair she has to walk on eggshells because her dad doesn't trust her. She hasn't done anything. She was starting to feel trapped, but now wasn't the time to bring it up she thought as Jake and Rose came in the room followed by his parents.
Rose smiled when she saw Sam came with them. All the anger she felt towards her disappeared. It wasn't Sam's fault. She just wanted to go on a date, her father needed to trust them. She looked at her dad. He wasn't smiling. He looked like he'd rather be anywhere but here.
"Hi dad…" She said giving him a small smile.
"We all need to talk." He said.
"I think so too." Susan said.
Rose sat by Jake and his parents with Sam standing by her, they looked at Rose's parents.
"We have been talking…we think it would be best for Rose and Jake to take a break." Alison said.
"That's not going to happen." Rose said.
"Rose, you can live without Jake." Alison said.
"No, I can't. I really can't. I don't mean to sound like a damsel in distress, but I love him more than anything-except for these babies-maybe just as much…but I've thought about it and I want Jake involved more than you are allowing. I want him to go to the ultrasounds, I want to pick out baby things with him, I want him to buy me things when I'm having cravings." Rose said.
"Babies?" Her mom asked.
"You forgot to tell them you are having twins?" Jake asked.
"YOU'RE HAVING TWINS! WHAT? HOW DID YOU FIND OUT…?" Her mother exclaimed.
"It's a long story you wouldn't believe unless you were there. That's not the point anyways. We can talk about that later." Sam said.
Rose had to appreciate her sister because she didn't know what to say.
"We were talking to Jake and Rose, and we think they really do love each other. They have been through so much together, and with a lot of planning, dedication, and hard work on everyone's part I think they can really pull through." Susan said.
"I really doubt it. Rose has been acting strangely ever since she's started dating Jake. Maybe she needs some time to find of herself." Adam said.
"What do you mean? She's the same Rose I've always known." Jake said.
"The same Rose you've always known Jake. That might be different from the Rose we know." Sam said softly.
"I never thought of that…" Jake said. "I'm sorry. I didn't know Rose like you did…I mean I did but in a different way. I know that doesn't make sense. She lived two different lives, it's crazy but if you knew the Rose I knew you would know she actually isn't that different." Jake said.
"I like who I'm becoming. I'm stronger, I'm more confident, and I'm learning to speak for myself. Jake doesn't tell me what to do, he isn't forcing me to do things against my will, he didn't make me carry out the pregnancy. I could've ended it, but I didn't. He didn't have to stay with me, but he chose to. He could've moved on." Rose said.
"Actually, I couldn't. I tried. I couldn't forget you."
"That's so sweet." Sam said, "So, Rose is the only girl you've ever truly loved?" She asked.
"Yeah." Jake nodded.
"I still don't know about this relationship." Adam said.
"What do I have to do to get you to like me?" Jake asked.
"Go back in time and not have sex with my daughter!"
He was trying to control his temper but seeing Jake and his daughter together struck a nerve and what's worse his dad was wearing a shirt that said Grandpa.
"I can't do that! She's pregnant, can't you just deal with it? Me and Rose have to!" Jake was frustrated at this whole situation. Why couldn't her dad just accept it and move on?
"I came here with the intention of being understanding and being a supportive parent, but do you realize how difficult this is for me Rose? I can't get over this. Think about what the students at your school will say. Then tell me you feel the same way." Her dad said.
"I wanted to talk to you about that last night before things got out of hand…I decided it's best to go with the homeschooling option." Rose said.
"I think that's wise." Alison said.
"With that established, where are these kids going to stay? I don't want them in my house." Adam said.
"Dad, that's taking it too far. Don't you think?" Sam asked.
"We have a spare room in our house, Jake could even stay over and help." Rose said.
"I don't want magical babies in our house, and I definitely don't want HIM in my house." Adam said, gritting his teeth at the mention of Jake in his house.
Jake could tell Rose was starting to get upset. It wasn't just affecting Rose anymore, he had to bring the twins into it now. He had to take care of his twins. The Shoe Room…he thought.
"We have a spare room. Could they stay here?" Jake asked his mom. She raised an eyebrow.
"C'mon, they're family. I can at least be here with them." Jake said.
"They could…it might even be better. You're a dragon and they are both dragons, we should be ready for whenever their dragon powers kick in." Susan said slowly, considering the suggestion.
"What about Rose? Does that mean she has to move in here too?" Sam asked.
"I need to be where my babies are. Mrs. Long, if you are serious about the twins staying here, I would have to stay there too." Rose said.
Jonathan listened to the conversation, silently thinking. Rose's father wasn't going to come around anytime soon and Rose was young. In her first trimester carrying magical twins, his grandkids. He knew how much stress she was under right now.
It wasn't healthy and although her parents did seem to care deeply for her this was different than just marrying a mortal, which upset Susan's father, but it was easier to accept than an unplanned teenage pregnancy. Every parent had nightmares about this happening and while he was supportive, excited even, he couldn't expect everyone to feel the same way he did. He decided to suggest something his wife might not like but he had his grandkids to think of…and Rose. She was a sweet girl.
"I would like to say something. If your parents are okay with it, you could move into our home. Hear me out Susan." He said when Susan gave him a shouldn't we talk about this first look, he brushed it off and kept talking. "Rose and her parents aren't going to see eye to eye on this. The stress is bad for the babies, and Rose is right. The twins will need her here after they are born anyways. We only have one spare room which will be the nursery, and Rose can continue sharing a room with Jake. I do think they should sleep in separate beds and Rose should maintain her grades to the best of her abilities during her pregnancy. What do you think?" Jonathan asked.
Jake and Rose looked at each other, personally they both liked the idea of living together even if they had to sleep in separate beds.
Susan looked at her husband…he had a point. She just gave in; Rose was a nice girl. She knew it would make Jake happy too.
"Only if Rose and her parents agree to it." Susan finally said.
"I'm okay with it." Rose said.
"Can we talk about it in private?" Adam asked.
"Sure. Take all the time you need, it's a big decision." Susan said. She watched them go outside to talk.
"Rose, you know Jake won't be here all the time to keep you company. He'll have school, and dragon training." Susan said.
"Anything's better than fighting all the time." Rose sighed.
"I'll miss you." Sam said.
"Call me. Every day, every hour if you want." Rose said.
"I know. It's just won't be the same, we've always shared a room." Sam laughed.
"Maybe you could spend more time with Nigel." Jake laughed.
"You told him about Nigel?" Sam asked.
"He knows about Nigel…He knows a lot about Nigel." Rose said.
"We go back." Jake said.
"What do you mean?" Sam asked.
"If he hasn't told you yet, it's not my place to." Jake said, he wasn't sure if Sam knew Nigel was a wizard or not. He knew he wasn't allowed to tell her if she didn't know though. Goes against magical code 60 or something like that.
Rose's parents came back inside.
"So?" Sam asked.
"She has to Skype us every night. We would like to see our daughter. No sexual relations, and she has to come have dinner with the family once a week." Adam said.
"Can you agree to that?" Alison asked Rose.
"Yes."
"We're going to miss seeing you around the house." Adam said, "I love you Rose. I really do."
"I love you too." Rose said.
"How about a hug before we head out?" He asked.
Rose ran up to her dad and hugged him. "I've missed your hugs." She said.
"I'm sorry for what I said last night. This is still hard for me to come to grips with, but I'm going to do my best." Adam said.
"That's all I ask, and no more fighting with Jake?" She asked.
"Let's take this one step at a time." Adam laughed.
"Thanks dad." Jake said.
Susan smiled at her two favorite boys. She was surprised Jonathan had actually spoken up. She was thinking she was going to have to do most of the talking. She watched as Rose's parents left.
"Do you want to stay and chill?" Jake asked Sam.
"I'd love to, but Nigel texted me." Sam said.
"I thought your date wasn't until tomorrow." Rose said.
"Well it's such a lovely day out, why waste it?" She asked.
"Mind if me and Jake tag along?" Rose asked.
"Are you sure?" Sam asked.
"I feel fine today." Rose said.
"I'm sure Nigel will be fine with it." Sam said.
"He'll definitely be surprised." Jake laughed.
"I've got to go get ready, meet us at central park in an hour. Love you." She said and headed out.
A/N: Okay. This was so hard to write for some reason. Writers block or the first few paragraphs I don't know. I'm excited to write the next chapter though.
