Flashback
"Hey, I'm home." Punk called as he walked through the house, heading into the kitchen where he saw his wife still sitting in front of her computer, "You're still working?" He raised his eyebrows.
"Unfortunately." AJ sighed, taking her glasses off and sitting them on the table, "How was Thea?" She asked him as Punk nodded.
"Yeah she was ok." Punk nodded, "Getting a lot off her chest." He said. He was proud of his eldest daughter for the things she'd spoken about with him tonight. It was the most open he'd ever heard her before. And he was saddened to hear about all the things she struggled with without telling anyone.
"Like what?" AJ asked him.
"Just stuff that's happened over the years. She's really starting to acknowledge it. And I think she feels better for it already." He nodded, "She got a little upset but that's gonna happen." He said, "She looks a lot better too. She said she's sleeping good."
"Well that's good." AJ nodded with relief. It was great to hear positive updates after such a long time of negative. Hearing that Thea was doing a little better every day was just what she wanted to hear.
"I think she's being really social in the facility too. She cooked dinner for everyone tonight." Punk nodded.
"Thea being social?" AJ smiled a little.
"She's trying." Punk nodded, "And the kids came to visit her so I think she was stoked about that."
"Well it's hard not to smile around them." AJ smiled, "I wish I could have seen her." She sighed, "Did you tell her I'd come in the morning?"
"Yeah I did." Punk nodded, "Have you really got more work still to do?" He asked her.
"No, I think I'm gonna wrap it up for the night." AJ sighed, "I don't think my brain can handle much more. I've got tomorrow to tie up some unfinished stuff." She said as Punk nodded.
"What's this junk?" He asked, noticing the box on the table.
"Oh, your dad came over and dropped it off." AJ nodded.
"My dad?" Punk questioned as AJ nodded.
"Yeah he was clearing out some of Sam's things and he said he figured you and Dean might want a look at some things." AJ said.
"What the hell would she have that I'd wanna look at?" Punk scoffed.
"Look at the fridge." AJ grinned a little as Punk shook his head with confusion, turning around to the fridge.
"What am I looking for?" Punk shook his head. It looked how it always looked. They had a collection of photographs stuck to their fridge from over the years of themselves and their children, and now their grandchildren.
"Look harder." AJ smiled as Punk put his hands on his hips, looking at the pictures, noticing one that wasn't there before.
"Wait is that-"
"It's baby Punk and baby Deano." AJ pouted, "Looking adorable as ever by the way."
"No way." Punk laughed to himself, taking the picture from the fridge of he and his brother when they were just three and four years old.
"You as a little kid and Jude as a little kid are so alike." AJ nodded.
"Man, it's weird to think we were all that small at one point." He chuckled as AJ nodded.
"There's more pictures. I just thought that one was really cute." AJ said.
"What else is in here?" Punk wondered, looking in the box as he sat the photograph down.
"Looked like some old clothes and stuff from the house." AJ nodded.
"I didn't take her as the keepsake kind of person." Punk admitted.
"Me neither." AJ said, "I still say we should have your dad over for dinner one night." AJ nodded.
"Why?" Punk shook his head.
"Well because he's… on his own." AJ said, "And he's your father and… what harm would it do?" She shrugged.
"I'd have nothing to say to him. It'd be awkward." Punk shook his head.
"You'd have plenty to say." AJ said, "I know you're not close with him and… that's fine, you don't have to be but… I think it would mean a lot to him." She nodded.
"I think we got enough going on right now." Punk shook his head.
"Stop giving me excuses, Brooks. I don't wanna hear it." AJ pointed at him as he rolled his eyes.
"Is this me or Dean?" Punk wondered, looking at another photograph.
"It says Phil on the back." AJ noticed as he nodded.
"I always forget my mom was like a child when she had me." Punk shook his head, looking at the picture of what looked like the day he was born in hospital.
"Sam in that picture and the Sam that I knew look like two completely different people." AJ said, "It's sad, really." AJ said as Punk nodded, sitting down at the table and looking through some of the pictures, "I wonder how she got friends with my mom and dad."
"God only knows." Punk shook his head as AJ nodded, "I gotta let Dean see these." Punk chuckled as AJ smiled.
"Yeah, they're good." AJ smiled, "Put that one back on the fridge."
"Seriously?" Punk shook his head.
"It's cute, yeah." AJ smiled.
"We're gonna start running out of space." He noticed.
"You'll need to buy another fridge then." AJ teased but in a serious manner as Punk chuckled to himself.
"You're a funny woman." Punk said, sticking the picture back up, smiling at the picture of Thea and Jude when they were little on the beach, "You remember this day?" He asked her, pointing to the picture as AJ looked over.
"Yeah, I got a good tan." AJ nodded.
"I got burnt." Punk shook his head.
"Put more cream on." AJ turned her head, lying on the beach towel beside her husband, putting her arm over her face to shade her from the sun so she could see him better.
"I'm literally in the shade." Punk turned to her.
"Yeah and the sun moves throughout the day, Phil." AJ hummed, closing her eyes back over, enjoying the extremely warm day at the beach with her family.
"Then I'll move too." Punk poked her stomach as she slapped his hand away.
"Don't, it's too hot to annoy me." She warned him as he chuckled.
"Wish there wasn't as many people around right now." He told her, lying on his side beside her.
"Why?" She smiled, knowing where his head was at.
"It's just… a nice bikini, that's all." He grinned as she nodded.
"Well, I didn't buy it for you." She reminded him.
"I know, but it's nice." Punk said as she chuckled.
"Well if you behave today and let me sun bathe, I'll put on something much nicer later when we go home." She smiled.
"I feel like we should get that in writing." Punk nodded as she chuckled, scratching under his stubbly chin as he leaned down and kissed her, suddenly feeling a bucket of water thrown over him as he jumped.
"Hey." AJ laughed, sitting up a little as she saw Thea, 10 and Jude, 3 standing mischievously.
"We're cooling you down, daddy." Jude nodded considerately.
"Oh, yeah. Thanks a lot." Punk scoffed sarcastically as AJ just chuckled.
"I'm hungry." Thea told them.
"And so am I." Jude added.
"Ok well daddy will go take you for something to eat." AJ nodded to them, "And by something to eat I mean actual food and not just ice-cream and candy." She looked at Punk.
"They bully me." Punk insisted as AJ just shook her head.
"Hold daddy's hand." AJ told Jude who nodded, taking Punk's hand right away.
"You want anything?" Punk asked her.
"Get me some fries and ketchup, please." AJ nodded.
"Ok, let's go." Punk nodded to the girls, taking Jude's hand whilst Thea walked ahead.
"Daddy." Jude kicked the sand as she walked towards the café on the beach front.
"What?" Punk said.
"Will you help me make a sand castle?" Jude asked him.
"I don't know if I'm any good at that." Punk said.
"But it's easy." Jude looked up at him with confusion, "I'll teach you." She assured him as Punk smiled.
"Stop kicking the sand at me." Thea turned back to her sister who deliberately kicked he sand even more, "Dad." Thea expected back up from her father.
"Jude, don't do that." Punk nodded to Jude who just smiled at Thea cheekily, "Think about what you guys want. You, especially." He looked down at Jude.
"I want a hamburger." Jude told him.
"You sure?" Punk asked her.
"Yes." Jude nodded.
"Alright." Punk nodded, not taking her word just yet.
"Why is there always a line?" Thea huffed, folding her arms as they approached the go to café for the beach, which had a long line for waiting in.
"Cause it's a hot day and it's lunch time." Punk said, "You just gotta wait."
"Daddy?" Jude questioned, swinging Punk's arm around as they waited in the line.
"What?" Punk asked.
"Do you not get burnt because of your pictures?" Jude asked him, looking at the tattoos on his arms.
"Of course he can get burnt." Thea shook her head, "You're silly." She told her sister who just shrugged.
"I don't have sun cream on actually." Punk thought to himself.
"And why not?" Jude questioned protectively.
"I forgot." Punk said.
"Mom puts cream on us every half hour." Thea rolled her eyes.
"Cause you're babies." Punk nodded to them, "Thea, what do you want?" He asked her.
"A cheeseburger." Thea said.
"That's what I want too." Jude nodded.
"You said a hamburger." Punk said.
"Not anymore." Jude said.
"I'll ask you again in a couple minutes." Punk assured her. The joys of little kids.
They waited in the line for over half an hour before finally getting their food and returning to AJ at their spot on the beach.
"Mommy, I got a slice of pizza!" Jude yelled, running over to her little beach towel on the sand, sitting down on it whilst Thea sat beside her.
"That's good, baby." AJ smiled, "What'd you get?" She asked Thea.
"A cheeseburger." Thea said, putting some ketchup on her burger.
"Phil, your neck is all burnt." AJ noticed with a raised eyebrow.
"I know, I felt it when I was standing there. It was a huge line." Punk shook his head.
"I told you to put cream on. It's like taking three kids out for the day." She shook her head as he nodded in agreement, sitting down on the towel beside her.
"Here." He gave her some fries.
"Thanks." AJ said, "Please put cream on after you've ate." She said as he just nodded.
"Daddy is helping me build a sand castle after." Jude told her mother as AJ nodded.
"Is he fully qualified for that?" AJ smiled to Punk.
"We'll see." Punk chuckled.
"Hey, let me get a picture of you both." AJ thought to herself, taking out the disposable camera as Thea groaned, "Pretend you like each other for me." She said as Punk chuckled.
"Cheese!" Jude yelled, holding her slice of pizza up as Thea wrapped her arm around her little sister.
"That's nice." AJ smiled, sitting the camera back inside Jude's stroller, watching the girls chat to each other as they ate their lunch. She loved days out with her family. Any day she could spend having fun with her favourite people was a good day.
They spent the full day at the beach. Punk and AJ took the girls down to the water, helped them build sand castles and played games with them.
The sun was beginning to go down, AJ had been sunbathing and opened her eyes to notice beside her was Punk fast asleep with Jude on top of him also sleeping, her little sun hat and swimmies still on. Thea was also fast asleep on the towel beside Punk. It made her smile so big.
