10 Years Later...
"And we have a Navy protégé graduating today he is the son of Captain Mike Flynn and Commander Kate McGregor/Flynn of NAVCOM in Cairns"
"Yeah Princess Perfect!" a few students called out
"Oh gawd…" Kate muttered as she sunk further in her seat Mike grinned at her
"Hmm after 20 or so years they still remember you" he laughed as she hit his chest
"That's abuse Mummy!" Melinda scolded with a grin
"It's your Father I'm allowed" she grinned slightly as Mike placed a hand on her thigh in comfort.
"Now I'd like to introduce you to this year graduate and our fairly awarded the Sword for best Navy cadet of this year, and at the shy age of 23 he is going to become the new Commanding Officer of the Cairns based Patrol boat HMAS Hammersley congratulations Wyatt McGregor Flynn" Commander Bryce finished as Kate wolf whistled
"Yeah Wyatt!" Mike called as everyone arose and started clapping
"THAT'S MY BROTHER!" Melinda called out as Kate laughed she smiled proudly as Wyatt made his way onto the stage and shook the hand of Commander Bryce.
"Thank you Commander Bryce, what a true honour this really is as you all know my parents are two of the most influential people in the Navy growing up I was always surrounded by boats and the Navy so it was only natural I followed in my parent's footsteps. You may know them and Mighty Mike Flynn" he grinned at Mike
"And Princess Perfect" he smirked as Kate covered her face in embarrassment
"But to me… to me they are just Mum and Dad, the two most important people in my life they directed me on the right path and supported all my hopes and dreams; when I was 11 my Mother was in an accident and almost died at the time she was Commanding Officer of Hammersley and I joked to her that one day she would be mine my Father was on her as a young officer before he came back and took over as CO, 6 years later and my Mum took over now 12 years later and she's becoming mine HMAS Hammersley is a place where the McGregor and Flynn family belong she is the place that brought my parents back together and now she will be sailing with another Flynn as the CO so Mum, Dad this one is for you I love you both" he smiled as everyone arose again and began clapping, Mike pulled Kate into a side hug as he noticed the trail of tears rolling down her cheeks
"I'm so proud of him" she smiled slightly
"We did good Kate, we got our dream family and now our son is following in our footsteps" he answered as he kissed her softly before moving back to sit down for the rest of the ceremony.
"Wyatt!" Melinda yelled an hour later as she jumped into her brother's arms
"Hey squirt" he smiled as he hugged her tightly
"We're so proud of you" Mike answered from his spot next to Kate who was crying
"Thanks Dad" he grinned as he put Melinda back down he moved towards Kate and gave her a hug
"You've become such a wonderful young man" she muttered as she squeezed him tightly
"Thanks Mum" he kissed her cheek before moving towards Mike as he gave him a warm hug.
"Why didn't you tell us about Hammersley?" Mike replied as he moved back
"Well I wanted it to be a surprise" he grinned slightly
"Oh just like you surprised us with the fact we're going to be grandparents" Kate smirked slightly as a young pregnant woman made her way towards them
"That wasn't my fault, Jen wanted to keep it a secret until Christmas" he laughed as Kate rolled her eyes
"Hey guys! I bet your super proud of him" Jen smiled stopping next to Wyatt as she grabbed his hand in hers
"Extremely, how's my grandson doing?" Mike smirked
"How do you know it's a boy?" Jen asked as Kate cleared her throat
"All Flynn firstborns are always boys" she said at the same time as Wyatt they all started laughed
"Now whose up for a family Flynn lunch?" Wyatt asked a few minutes later as everyone composed themselves
"ME!!" Melinda yelled from her spot next to him
"Well then let's go" he grinned as he held his hand out she grabbed it as they began to walk towards the carpark with Jen on his other side.
"We raised a great young man" Kate smiled as she turned to face Mike he wrapped his arms around her waist
"And he's going to become the perfect Father to his unborn child" he grinned as Kate pulled him into a hug resting her head against his chest as they watched Wyatt helping his Pregnant wife into the car along with his little sister
"Did you ever think we'd be here?" Mike asked through the silence
"I knew you were always going to be my one and only Mike Flynn" she grinned as she looked up at him
"Always and forever Kate" he said moving his head down as he kissed her softly
"Even if you are fully grey now" she laughed against his lips
"I thought you liked the slightly grey ruggedly handsome look" he winked
"Oh definitely"
"I love you Kate" he smiled
"And I love you Mike" she replied as he kissed her again the sound of a car horn and Melinda yelling finally breaking them apart.
True love never dies, it fizzles out maybe but it stays there in your heart buried by emotions controlling you, once the file is rekindled it breathes a new life and maybe just maybe things will become better.
