Flo's ballet guide for the March sisters

(Perhaps you know that my Flo is as crazy as me in my LW universe, and since I'm not in the mood for a story, just these quick notes for you!)

Meg ist he oldest, beautiful sister and I remember her mostly having fun with dancing. She befriends the rich girls and envies them, but gets very disappointed …so, I think that Giselle could be the right comparison for Meg. Poor peasant girl befriends Princess Bathilde, without knowing that her lover Loys is in fact Prince Albrecht, who is engaged with Bathilde….so she dies, heartbroken. Giselle is now one oft he Wilies, the ghostlike women, taking revenge on men. But Giselle is different, she saves Albrecht…Meg is very peaceful and full of loyalty. She loves ghostly stories, but you may think about it.

Also Raymonda, a medieval story, featuring a White Lady, would suit to Meg – and it has happy end!

Jo would perhaps like Swan Lake. The main character is male, Prince Siegfried, who feels unhappy at court and doesn't want to marry. Also Odette, the swan maiden, is outside of court – lake and swans are a way of freedom. Rotbart, the magician/evil genius could be a representation of Jo's internal struggle against her temper/Apollyon. Never forget that Swan Lake features with it's love duet the duet from Tchaikovsky's abandoned opera Undina -to the very novel Jo wishes for Christmas. Swan Lake has different, ambigous endings, as Jo's love story with Bhaer may be seen as forced solution becauseof the publisher (but of course, you may enjoy just a romantic happy ending in both cases…)

Jo would also love the fight for liberty in Spartacus and the exotic pirate adventure in Le Corsaire (Medora is even dressed in some productions as a pirate).

Beth would enjoy a simple play about dolls and how to have an emotional connection with one – especially with an invalid (also in real life, like Frank Vaughn). This is perfect fort he holiday treat „The Nutcracker" – and Beth represents most the idea of Christmas. As Beth is portrayed mostly younger, she makes a good comparison to (the actually brave) child-heroine Clara (who would also be ambigously grown up in the 2act in some productions). Her relationship to the elderly, a bit scary Uncle Drosselmeyer is a good parallel to Mr. Laurence.

What could I mention else? She would also like Cinderella, as the hard-working girl, although this fairy tale features a romantic happy ending…

Finally, Amy, is perfect for a beautiful princess with featured friends and many suitors , such as Princess Aurora in the „Sleeping Beauty" (who has four suitors in the Rose Adagio). A tale of good and bad fairy godmothers (or aunts), and finding your true love far away (actually even far away in time after 100 years), Aurora is a charater we see growing up (even literally in some productions), like Amy. She might be the most protected, but she is very talented, a bit curious and she will marry her Prince Charming (who kisses her before she dies…that's from the 1994 movie).

Nevertheless, Amy would enjoy each determined, fun-loving, flirting ballet character, like Swanilda from Coppelia or even Kitri from Don Quixote (that's comparison on purpose (: )
