POST-NOTE: Hey guys! So I was really thinking over the last week how much I enjoy interacting with those of you who leave reviews and messages. I'm always grateful to hear that you all enjoy the story, and to give advice to those of you who want to try your hand at your own fics.
If you're interested in getting advice and insight, or just asking questions about the fate of the story, feel free to contact me via Instagram or Twitter ( boneill20 and BrandonJamesNG respectively), neither of which am I very active with posting random stuff. I generally always have my phone at my side, so you'll probably hear back from me after a couple hours at max. I'm going to also post this at the end of Chapter 1 for newer readers. Thank you all a million for enjoying my content!
Ok even though this hasn't been mentioned, I understand that I've been misspelling Ashido's name here and there! My mistake and once my computer is up and running again, I'll go through and make sure it's not only corrected and uniform, but that there's a giant sticky note on my desktop with her picture saying ASHIDO NOT ASHIDA.
Disclaimer: I do not own Dragonball, Dragonball Z, Dragonball Super, or My Hero Academia. Enjoy.
Chapter 23: Progress
Class 1-A began their morning routine as any other day. However, one student, Mina Ashido, awoke frantically in Gohan's bed, rushing to block the door before anybody had a chance to check on her friend. Cracking the door, she took a peek out of one side, being careful to quietly step out of the room before closing the door behind her. "Uh, Ashido?" Midoriya's confused voice played behind her.
"AAAAH!" With a blood-curdling scream, she turned around to a group of her friends. "O-Oh, hey guys!" She said nervously. "What are you doing here so early? Hehe…" Among the group was Midoriya, Iida, Kaminari, Mineta, and Tokoyami.
"We came to check on Gohan's health. Why were you in Gohan's room?" Iida asked her, putting his hands on his shoulder.
Mineta couldn't even finish his sentence. "Were you perhaps…" Drool began to drip from his mouth as his fantasies went wild. "Forbidden…"
"I didn't know you were that kind of girl, Ashido…" Kaminari continued to make the situation seem worse than it was.
"Shut up, you freakin' pervs! I w-wanted to visit him, too! But he's not feeling well so it wouldn't be best to visit in a large group!" She frantically explained, flailing her arms about.
"I think you have a point, Ashido." Iida said, holding his chin in his fingers.
Midoriya stepped forward, and raised a hand. "Then if it's alright, would you mind if I stop to say hi for everyone? I've been training hard and I wanted to share my results."
"No!" She shouted. "I mean- He's really tired from my visit…" She held her finger up as the idea came to her head, but the words sounded even worse as they left her mouth. As if petrified, Mineta and Kaminari didn't move in inch, to the point where it was hard to tell if they were even bringing. Even Tokoyami and Iida were thrown off by the remark. "I didn't mean to say it like that…" A defeated Ashido pleaded one last time, pressing her hands together and bowing her head. "Please…just leave him be for now…"
Suddenly, the door creaked, and opened wide as Gohan walked out. "Oh, good morning, everyone." He gave a wide smile and Midoriya approached him.
"Gohan! I'm glad to see you're up. How are you feeling?"
Iida took another step closer, his hand stiffening as it pointed at his friend. "Has your condition improved at all?"
"Yep!" He said excitedly. "I'm back to full strength!" The young Saiyan pumped his fist, and his smile bared his teeth.
"Just like that?" Tokoyami asked him.
"Yeah, just like that." He had figured it would be best to at least hold off on explaining the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Meanwhile, Kaminari and Mineta stayed hunched over with their backs to the group, mumbling something about 'Ashido's special visit' helping the healing process. "Are they ok?"
"Don't worry about those two pervs." Ashido told him angrily as the group was ready to move on with their day. "I'm glad to see you're doing better, Gohan." She told him with a smile. "I should have known whatever was wrong wouldn't keep you down forever!"
"Well it was really thanks to Piccolo for pulling me out when he did. I know better than to abuse my power, and why I did so before, I don't know. Although, I know that I won't make the same mistake again." He smiled as the two walked towards the bathroom. "And, Mina?" Catching her attention, she looked over, and her yellow eyes met his. "Thank you for your help."
With heat rising from her chest to her cheeks, she looked down. "I didn't do much more than embarrass myself."
"Well then, thank you for embarrassing yourself for my sake."
"Of course, Gohan!" Her wide smile brought a sense of warmth to his chest as the two parted ways at the boy's bathroom.
Although the day proceeded as it normally would, UA gave a reporter access to the campus in order to report on school life. Gohan had gotten worried about what the man may write in his paper about him. The last thing he wanted was for anyone to swarm his family for stories about him, so he decided to lay low.
However, midway through the school day, as they were being dismissed for lunch, Freelance Journalist Taneo Tokuda. "So, you're Gohan Son, right?"
"Y-Yes, sir." He responded, making an attempt at slipping past.
Although Tokuda allowed him to pass, he didn't let up. "So what's your Quirk, Mr. Son? I've noticed you've been avoiding me all morning, and that you don't normally talk about it among your classmates. They seemed to be convinced that you're Quirkless."
"It's Flight." He suddenly said. "My ability to fly is my Quirk. If that's all you needed, please leave me in peace." Gohan gave a quick bow before taking off in the opposite direction. Even though he was in an article about the USJ Incident, he knew that if a reporter were to find out more about him, his secret would be out for the whole world to know.
It was only much later in the day that Gohan and Sato stood in the kitchen. While Sato whisked away in his bowl, Gohan watched intently, eagerly trying to learn. "Hey, guys." Tokuda said as he greeted the two. "Would you mind if i borrowed Son for a minute?"
"What is it concerning?" He asked. "I'm a little busy right now. And just 'Gohan' is fine."
"Right. It will only take a few moments." Tokuda said reassuringly, waving his hand for Gohan to move closer. "So, Son Gohan. Are you into martial arts at all?" The question surprised him, seemingly coming out of left field. "I'll take that surprised expression as a 'yes.' It shouldn't be a surprise. After all, your father, Son Goku. He was a World Martial Arts Champion, was he not?" He asked as the two walked out of earshot of everyone else.
"You're correct." Gohan hated to admit that he had done his research properly.
"And beside that, I couldn't find much info on him. His opponent, however, who went by the name 'Demon King Piccolo,' seemed very familiar to me. Then that's when I remembered that in my research of the Sports Festival, I see a very familiar green man in the stands. With him was a very familiar bundle of faces that I recall seeing during the Cell Games broadcast before they lost the feed. Among that group, a few of the men there had golden blond hair, and incredible aura. It reminded me of the figure recently seen during All Might's last battle. The biggest thing connecting all of this, however, is you." His long winded explanation continued to press Gohan. "Even though your hair was a different color, you're definitely that young man seen during the Cell Games. Not a lot of people noticed though, because their eyes were on Hercule Satan before the feed died."
Gohan crossed his arms. "So what? Do you plan to write a big story on it?"
"With your permission, of course. 'The incredible young Golden Warrior,' what do you think?"
"With all due respect, Mr. Tokuda, I deny permission." He said, shocking the journalist. "I just want for my mother to live a normal quiet life. Even though there are moments that I want to shine and help others, I don't doubt that knowledge of my existence, of who I really am will no doubt shock the world. People will try to swarm my mother for more information. Those who have worked hard to get to where they are now, if I just came forward as a Pro-level fighter, their pride would be destroyed. Their dedication and hard work would seem pointless. So please, don't release a story about me." To end his explanation, Gohan gave a bow before returning to the kitchen.
"So, how was it?" Sato asked.
"It was fine. He just wanted me to talk a little about the USJ, that's all." As he got behind the island counter, Sato reminded him to put his apron back on. He took the plain white apron with a large sunflower on it and put the loop around his neck, tying the strings behind them so that it fit snuggly around his salmon-colored shirt and khaki shorts.
"Hey, Gohan, what are you guys up to anyway?" Jiro asked as her and Yaoyarozu approached the kitchen.
"Oh, Momo, Kyoko! My mother's birthday is coming up soon, so I wanted to learn how to bake her a cake to thank her for all the one's she baked me." He explained as he began to beat in his eggs.
"Oh my gosh! That's so sweet of you!" Uraraka cried out from across the room before making her way over.
"Yeah, so Rikido and I are making a chocolate and a vanilla cake for dessert." He began to whisk around his bowl, trying to be careful with his strength. After the two finished their prep work, they threw their cakes into the oven to bake. Looking around, Gohan could see that everyone, with the exception of Bakugo, Mineta, and Midoriya. "Kyoka, do you think you could do me a favor and go get Katsuki, Izuku, and Minoru?"
"Oh, uh, sure." She said as she began to make her way to the dorms.
"Jiro! I think Deku's outside! I'll go grab him, alright!?" Uraraka called out, waving her arms as Jiro waved back.
While the cakes baked, Gohan helped Sato with cooking dinner, and a short while later, Mineta and Jiro came downstairs. "Bakugo just told me to piss off, so I hope it's not that important to him."
"It looks like Deku's outside talking to Mr. Tokuda." Uraraka said, pressing her face against the window. After a few minutes, her face began to turn red, and she cracked the front door open. Midoriya walked in with a bag, and the smell of food filled the room.
"Those smell great!" Gohan called out excitedly. "They'll go great with dinner! And Rikido and I baked some cakes for after!"
"Hey, Gohan," Mineta suddenly said, "what did you need me for?"
"Oh, right!" Everyone, with the exception of Bakugo, was present, so Gohan walked out from the kitchen and removed his apron. His chest felt tight, and he was incredibly nervous about choosing his next words. "Everybody… There's something very important I want to ask of you…" His words felt heavy on everyone's shoulder. Gohan was known for not asking much of anyone, so whenever he did seriously ask for something, it was usually important. "I'd like to ask you all…please…"
Uh oh, is that a cliff hanger? Too bad, so sad. Geez, I wonder what he was going to ask :D Sorry to shorten it today, but thank you all for reading. This is the first chapter to be written entirely mobile, so due to auto-correct, there shouldn't be as many if any spelling and grammar errors. Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed! Stay safe, and I'll see you very soon!
