Chapter 23: Get the Message

Inuyasha buys her three new books.
He tells her he just happened to see them—no big deal—but the truth is he spent a good hour in the book store picking them out. Mostly because he's hell bent on never repeating the Surprise!-Book-Porn Incident, but also because he maybe-sorta-kinda still feels like a dick for yelling at her.
Kagome's already half-way through the first one when Miroku calls. Inuyasha doesn't pick up. After getting no answer after the eighth (consecutive) call, Miroku floods his inbox with text messages.
(10:46) Seriously? You're ignoring me?
(11:07) I can't even call it 'ghosting' because of this very REAL AND VERY SERIOUS situation.
(11:59) Can you pls just call me?
(12:39) Or text me?
(13:05) This isn't funny. Seriously. Pls just answer your damn phone so I know you're still alive.
Inuyasha scowls at the screen, before looking around the room. There's only a few more odds and ends to do before the bathroom is completely finished. Once he installs the new toilet, it will at least be functional. Livable. He's only got another week of vacation, ten more days till his lease expires, and he plans on using it to pack up and move in.
In his hand, his phone feels heavy. He's still pissed off, but he's not so much of an asshole that he'd let his friend worry. Still, he doesn't gotta be happy about it either. His thumbs tap against the screen, his message short and concise.
(13:14) i'm alive now fuck off
The phone doesn't even make it back into his back pocket before chiming.
(13:14) PRAISE BUDHA!
(13:14) But also, RUDE.
(13:15) I did some research. I REALLY think you need to see it. Pls call me ASAP.
(13:15) AND STAY AWAY FROM THAT HOUSE!
Inuyasha scoffs, turning his phone off and shoving it in his pocket. He's got a toilet to install.
