New York City, 15 years ago.
The city was littered with millions of Jaywalkers crossing the street, people yelling at each other, buying food from hot dog stands, just an average morning for an average day.
Like someone trying to get to work on time as Otto Octavius, being slightly younger at this point of time, walked inside of the halls of Oscorp, which was still being constructed at this point in history as he entered an elevator door, pressing the floor he had intended to reach.
Once the door opened, he and numerous others walked inside the elevator, preparing themselves to enter their jobs when a man was hurrying over with great haste, seeing the door about to close right up in front of him.
?: Excuse me! Can somebody hold the door, please?!
As no one else seemed to oblige, Otto observed as the man in question was halfway across the elevator. Then as it began to close, Otto reached out his hand and let it open still, allowing the relieved worker to enter the overcrowded space.
?: (Sighs as he rubbed his head) Thanks. (Turns to a fellow employee, having just bumped right into her) Oof, sorry! I'm really sorry about that. (Turns to Otto) Thanks for holding the door.
Otto: (Nodded) Oh, it's no problem at all! You did say please after all.
?: (Chuckled) That's funny. You must be a real joker around here.
Otto: (Raises a brow) I'm assuming you must be new here.
?: (Turns around, facing the now shut door) Really? How can you tell?
Otto: Well, for starters, your clothes look like they were worth about, $60 each in the open market. At least, it was yesterday until you somehow got yourself into a tight situation so bad that it decreased the market value tremendously low.
?: (Turns to face his head at Otto) Are you some kind of telemarketer?
Otto: No, actually, I'm a scientist. I work out equations, atomics, and calculations. Everything I said was just a theory at this point, no offense.
?: Eh, none taken. (Turns to face the door) I just transferred out of my old job very recently. And believe me, from where I come from, it is awfully rare to not handle criticism in a not so polite way.
Otto: Ah, so I assume this must be your first day, then?
?: It is, actually. (Straightens out his tie) Uh, my Wife... She recently got pregnant just last week, and uh... You know, transferring out of the old job into the next feels like a whole new chapter just waiting to be opened up, a whole new Horizon.
Otto: (Hums around that thought) Horizon... What an interesting way to presume hope for the future.
?: (Turns to Otto) I'm, sorry... Did you say that you're a scientist?
Otto: (Nods) Oh, yes. (Clears his throat) Forgive my manners. (Offers the man his hand) Otto. Doctor Otto Octavius.
?: (Grinned, accepting the hand) Richard... Doctor Richard Parker.
Otto: Ah, a fellow scientist, eh?
Richard: You bet! You read a magazine about Pym Tech recently? That guy has a very interesting point of view on Quantum Entanglements.
Otto: (Smiles) Oh, yes! I mean, I wouldn't go as far as Astonishing, but it is an enlightening read no less. (Tilted his head) So, you're a doctor then?
Richard: That I am. (Turns to the door) In fact, I'm personally going to be working with Oscorp's personal CEO from this point on.
Otto: (Scoffed) Well, I'll be damned.
Richard: What?
Otto: You and I have the same boss.
Richard: (Turns to Otto, raising a brow) Really?
Otto: Why, yes indeed. (Hears the elevator beginning to ding) And from what I can tell, you and I are going to get along with each other quite well.
The door opened, allowing the occupants to leave as the two scientists began to walk around the floor, Otto leading Richard into the CEO's office.
Richard: (Looks around) So, we're not heading into the lab yet?
Otto: Ah, no! Mr. Osborn has issued a meeting in his office. Everyone is meeting him there.
Richard: Why his office?
Otto: His company, his building. (Leads him to the door) Come. It's in here.
They entered his office as they sat down on the round table, seeing Norman getting a good view of New York City with his hands clasped behind his back.
Norman: (Sighs) My Father... He wasn't known for his politeness, you could say. (Turns around) You could say that... He wasn't entirely a perfect man, nor a perfect parent... And you could say that he had his moments where he thought that all there is to life is a failure... But I proved him wrong when I built this Company from the start-up, way back in college. And even though he may lie in the grave, I know that his son, his boy, proved to him that there is no such thing as failure as long as you work hard to get to where you need to be. (Points to Otto and Richard) Take Otto Octavius and Richard Parker for example. These two have worked themselves to the bone to get to where they need to be! Otto, being a man who has earned three of his degrees from MIT and Empire State University, and Richard, who, along with his wife, have completed an Internship at Pym Technologies and having achieved Head Bachelors at Harvard University! These two have minds unlike any other, ladies and gentlemen, give it up for Otto and Richard!
Everybody began to clap their hands together for the two scientists as they had felt a sense of humbleness at their welcome while Norman poured in a glass of wine.
Norman: (Smiles) Alright, gentlemen... From this point on, we are going to change the world for the better... (Raises his glass) And I cannot personally see anything that can possibly go wrong with that...
15 Years Later, Present Day.
Otto was lying on the floor as he was from the previous episode as Max and Happy gathered around him in horror, seeing how critically injured he was while Hogan began to dial his phone.
Happy: Yeah, there's been an accident! (Turns around) We need an ambulance here, immediately!
Gwen: (Coughs as she walks inside the lab) Where's... Where's Doctor Octavius?
Max: (Points at Gwen) Gwen, stay back!
Peter: (Runs inside) What happened?!
Max: You too, Peter! (Turns to Happy) Mr. Hogan, keep them away!
Peter: (Sees Otto, widening his eyes) Oh my god.
Happy: (Grabs his phone) Here, I'm sending you to the doctor, he'll tell you everything! (Hands it to Max, turning to the Interns) Everybody, just keep back!
Gwen: Doctor Octavius!
Happy: I said, keep back!
Max: Yes, we need our friend and associate sent to a hospital immediately! Please, thank you! (Ends the call)
Curt: (Runs inside, placing his one hand on the floor) Max?
Max: The Arms! Help me take them off!
They flipped him over on his back, attempting to get his arms off of his back only to find out to their horror that the mechanism attacked to Otto's back has been melted inside of the skin, buried within his spinal cord as everybody stood back.
Gwen: (Sighs) Oh, god... His back...
Max: (Gasped softly) Otto... (Sees Curt trying to touch it) No! Don't touch it! Nobody, just don't touch him, please!
Peter: (Rubbed his hair) What do we do? Guys, what do we do?!
Curt: (Turns to Peter) Right now, we simply wait for help to arrive! And until then, we simply don't know.
Peter sighed, rubbing his face as he started to turn around, leaving the scene as Happy started to go after him, which left Gwen as the only Intern standing witness to Otto's wounds.
As he reached the elevator, Happy intercepted him from that point on.
Happy: Where are you going?
Peter: (Started getting his backpack) Otto's been hurt, badly. And he needs help! (Gets out the suit) Avengers Tower, that place has much more efficient medical experts, better than anywhere else! If we could just get him there-!
Happy: Kid, slow down! First off, put that suit back, people could see you holding that out in the open!
Peter: (Turns to Happy) Avengers Tower, can you get us access to it?
Happy: (Sighs) Kid, if it were up to me, I'd be more than happy to help.
Peter: And you're saying that you can't? Why?!
Happy: Because time isn't up to me, okay?! Look at his back, Otto Octavius would be dead the second we reached Avengers Tower, which all the way up north from here!
Peter: So, fine! Call up a Quinjet, Thor's Bifrost Bridge, or something! Just, get him to the Tower!
Happy: Parker, that's not how it works! You can't just simply phone an Uber Ride by Quinjet, there's only so many of those around! And, not to mention that Avengers Tower is still undergoing some maintenance because of the Vulture's attempt theft, and the explosion that you caused!
Peter: (Sighs) I'm, still very sorry about that. (Shook his head) Look, is there any way we can help him?! Can't we just call for some help?!
Happy: Peter, kid... (Scratches the back of his head) Listen, I'm sorry, but I don't think there's anything we can do for him.
Gwen: (Walks over to the two) Happy? Max needs your help, Doctor Connors can't lift Doctor Octavius with just his one hand!
Happy: (Turns around) Just, wait here, both of you! Don't do anything!
He started to help the Doctors as Gwen stayed with Peter, who just sat on a chair having been ashamed of something that he was lacking.
Gwen: (Turns to Peter) Peter? What's wrong? Did you get hurt by the blast?
Peter: (Shook his head as he just rubbed his hair) ...I should have seen it coming. (Raises his head up) The blast... My senses, I should have known, I should have stopped it-!
Gwen: Peter... (Placed a hand on his shoulder) There's only so much any one person can do, and there was nothing anyone could do to see it coming.
Peter: (Sighed as he closed his eyes) Maybe... Maybe when the machine shut down, I should have made a warning first! Otherwise, Doctor Octavius might not have-!
Gwen: Look, what happened has happened now! No one could have predicted this to happen, maybe your Senses couldn't have either. And trust me, I am thinking of many possible ways I could have done something to prevent this! But if there's anything my Dad taught me, it's that you can't keep dwelling on past mistakes... Otherwise, that guilt we put on ourselves, it's just going to consume us either way.
Peter: (Bit his lip as he stood up, taking a breath) ...What happens now?
Gwen: (Sighs softly, letting her hands drop) I don't know... I guess, we just hope for the best, for Otto's sake.
The two interns watched as Max and Happy started carrying Otto into the elevator, no one in the group unaware of the slightest twitching that his Arms have been making.
Later, when the Ambulance arrived, Otto was carted away as sirens filled the air and investigators have begun to conduct questioning on what happened, starting with Max as he was there to answer any questions that there were needed while Happy stood by his side, Curt approached Peter and Gwen as they held ice packs to help decrease their migraine.
Curt: Doctor Octavius is being sent into the hospital right now. Uh, the nurses tell us that though he miraculously survived the explosion, the equipment he was using with the Arms melted right into his spine.
Gwen: Is he going to be okay?
Curt: He's going to have a surgery performed on his spine, in the hopes of removing the Harness off his back. However, I fear that may result in severing his nerves, especially in the Ventral root.
Peter: (Raises his head) That's... That's where all the nerve impulses of the human body come from, isn't it?
Curt: Indeed. And unfortunately, the harness had been melted deep within that part of the spine, so... (Sighs) I'm not even sure what's going to happen after it's been taken off, but I doubt any good will come of it either way.
Gwen: (Breathes as she covered her hands) ...Is there anything we can do?
Curt: (Shakes his head) No, I'm afraid not. In fact, I've spoken with Max, and we believe it would be best if you both gone home early. (Turns to Gwen) Gwen, you should stay, however. I've gotten a report that your Father is coming to pick you up himself.
Gwen: (Sighs) Of course.
Curt: (Turns to Peter) Peter, you head home safely. We'll contact you when things have been updated.
Peter: (Stands up) What about Horizon? Is it going to close down?
Curt: No, of course not! But this facility will have to remain shut until proper repairs have been made.
Gwen: So, that means no more interning for a while?
Curt: We hope that we may resume that sometime after Thanksgiving and before Christmas Eve. But in the meantime, we'll have to postpone internships until then.
Max: CURT! Can you come here, please?
The scientist went on to join Max as George Stacy had joined the scene, getting out of his car as he searched around for his Daughter.
Gwen: (Sees her Dad) Well, that's my cue.
Peter: (Sighs as he turned to Gwen) Well... I guess we should part ways now.
Gwen: (Rubs his hand) Hey, just remember not to beat yourself up. Otto wouldn't want anyone to do so.
Peter: I guess you're right. (Nodded) I'm going to F.E.A.S.T, I'll see you later.
Gwen: Sure! And, we'll... Talk, later... Yeah?
Peter: (Widened his eyes) Yeah! Of course, we'll definitely talk more.
Gwen: (Smiled) Awesome!
Peter: Neat! (Nodded, giving a thumbs up) Neato...
Gwen: Fantastic...
The two went separate ways while Gwen began greeting her Father, Peter started walking over to the bus, placing his hands into his hoodie pockets.
?: Peter!
He turned around, facing none other than Norman Osborn making his approach on the young Parker.
Norman: (Walks over to Peter) My, I thought I saw you when I came to visit!
Peter: (Raises a brow, turning to Norman) Mr. Osborn? What are you doing here?
Norman: Oh, well, I heard about the explosion that dear Otto was involved in, and I came here to pay my respects.
Peter: (Tilts his head) He... Isn't dead yet.
Norman: (Chuckled) Ah, not what I meant by that. (Shook his head) Oh, goodness, no, no, no! I meant that I came here to offer any support, given the chance. I mean, I know this company is technically owned by Stark Industries, but still, a man can't help but wonder if there's something to be worked out, you know?
Peter: (Sighs) Well, if you wish to do that, then you should talk to Doctor Modell and Doctor Connors. And if they're not done with the police, maybe talk to the Head of Horizon Security.
Norman: Right, I'll be sure to do that. (Folded his arms) But first, I wanted to check how you were doing. I know that you and my Son are friends, and I'm sure he would be devastated if anything were to happen to you.
Peter: Oh... (Rubbed his arm) Well, I'm fine for the most part. It's sad what happened to Otto Octavius though.
Norman: I agree. (Looks at the ambulance driving away) I mean, we didn't always... Get along with each other, but I always viewed him as a friend one way or another.
Peter: I'm... Sure you do.
Norman: (Placed his hands in his pockets) Did you know that he and your Father worked together?
Peter: (Nodded) Uh, yeah! He's mentioned it a few times.
Norman: Really? That's good. (Folded his arms) Did he... Mention anything else about your Father?
Peter: (Shook his head) No... Honestly, we don't really talk about my Dad so often, and quite frankly, I don't talk about my Dad so often.
Norman: And why is that?
Peter: Because there's only one truth I do know... (Folds his arms) He, along with my own Mom, left... There's nothing else to it, no reasonable cause or explanation, just... Gone without a trace... (Turns to Norman) And that's all there is to it.
Norman: (Sighs through his nose) I see... (Clapped his hands together) Well... I suppose I shouldn't bother prolonging this subject any further, I'm sure you have things to do.
Peter: (Nodded as he heads to the bus) It was nice seeing you, Mr. Osborn.
Norman: Of course. And if the internship at Horizon doesn't pan out, you and Mrs. Stacy are more than welcome to intern at Oscorp! We always welcome brilliancy in our company.
Peter nodded, waving at Norman before leaving as the businessman stood staring, Goblin sat next to him looking extremely bored.
Green Goblin: (Yawns) Why do you bother with that insect? Look at him, he's as boring as politics, just anxious to die!
Norman: (Turns around) That insect you referred to, is the son of Richard Parker.
Green Goblin: Is that supposed to ring a bell?
Norman: If you're a part of my sub-conscious, it should. (Enters his car) He's the man responsible for your creation.
Green Goblin: (Raises a brow, amused) Hmm... Me likey.
At the hospital, Otto was seen in surgery as he was seen half-naked, wearing patient's garments, flipped onto his stomach unconscious as doctors and nurses gathered around him, preparing to operate on the scientist while his Arms hung in the air from the hangers, each arm covered in curtains.
Doctor: Alright, is Strange coming to perform the surgery?
Nurse: Uh, no, I'm afraid not.
Doctor: Why? I thought this kind of injury was part of his expertise?
Nurse: It used to be... But, he had a car accident with his Lambo.
Doctor: Shit? Seriously?
Nurse: Yeah, it happened a few weeks ago. He's currently a couple of floors below us having another go at his hands since Doctor Palmer confirmed that his hands had suffered the most severe damages.
Doctor: Oh, Christ. That's one way to kill a career. (Sighs) Okay, I guess we're doing this without him. (Turns on a screen) As you can see, molten metal penetrated his spinal cavity and fused the vertebrae at multiple points, including the lamina, and the roof of his spinal column. We won't know the extent of the damage until we get in there, so I suggest we cut these Mechanical Arms, slice up the Harness, and if need be, consider a laminectomy, with posterior spinal fusion from C7-T1 to T12.
Nurse: We're ready, Doctor.
Doctor: (Grabs a buzzsaw, looking around his fellow employees) Anybody here take shop class?
Everyone chuckled at the joke as the saw was activated, more than prepared to do the honors when the man performing the surgery heard a gust of wind blow into his ear. Then he turned around, seeing that one of the arms have vanished, much to his surprise.
However, knowing that he has a duty to fulfill, he ignored that subtle change as he turned the buzzsaw back on, turning back to Otto's back as he lowered the tool onto the harness... A choice that would cost him dearly as one of the doctor's google's glass reflected an Arm more than anxious to start a murder spree.
Then, just as the man gasped, he turned around to be dealt with a blow to the head as he was flung through the air, crashing right into a glass window as one of the Nurses screamed in horror.
That was only the beginning as all the rest of the Arms flickered to life, raising themselves off of the hooks as everyone at the operating room panicked from the surprise ambush, resulting in more screams of horrified fear.
And fear they have rightly felt so, as the Arms began to grab Doctors and Nurses, either throwing them into the air or just simply dragging them on the ground while the rest tried to flee for their lives. Lights fell from the ceiling as an Arm grabbed the face of another helpless soul, flinging him around in the air while another grabbed a Nurse and placed his arm on the light bulb, effectively electrocuting him from that point on.
Bodies filled the room as cries for help were shouted in the air, desperate pleas that shows off utter terror as one of the operators were still being dragged through the floor filled with glass while being painfully ignored due to the rest of the remaining occupants being slaughtered from the merciless onslaught that the Arms possessed, leaving a Nurse to be dragged down into the dark while clawing desperately on the floor, making her marks scratched across the surface.
As the rest were carried through the air, being slammed onto the floor or towards the walls without a shred of mercy, one particular survivor was pushed back next to a table containing a Chainsaw, amplifying his hopes for survival as he reached out, only to be against the table, which inadvertently helped his cause as the cloth dragged the saw onto the floor next to him.
While the 2nd last victim shouted her last screams of fear, the remaining survivor grabbed the Chainsaw and tried cutting through the metal, which was entirely in vain, unbeknownst to him, due to Artificial Vibranium being the sole metal of the arms as he shouted, trying to cut the mechanism pinning him against the wall.
Then, to his horror, all the other Arms joined up with their better as the man gasped softly, seeing their Red lights shine through the metallic palms as they opened up, finishing him as they ganged up on the now screaming victim, whose hands then dropped the tool to the floor.
Once all the occupants were killed, the Arms retreated back to the Scientist as Otto's body squirmed, shaking his head while one of the Arms grabbed the blindfold covering his eyes, lifting the fabric to allow him to regain his sight as the elder groaned, blinking several times as his mind was in a haze.
Of course, given his expression, he had not remembered anything that happened during the last 12 hours... However, there was just one thought that came into his mind, just one thought that made him... Personally committed to escaping into the outside more than ever.
Otto: ...Richard.
After a while of climbing down the steps, the Arms reached the entrance and pushed the doors open, leaving the surrounding locals to back away as Otto used his Arms to make his exit, a car nearly run him over when one of the Limbs halted its speed, flinging it in the air to crash onto another vehicle. At that point, Otto began to take in just how sentient the Arms have become while he stood out in the middle of the street, almost becoming attached to them mentally somehow.
Then, as the sirens were heard from a distance, he turned his head around, seeing a man dressed in a Dark Olive Green Trench Coat, and a pair of shades who was distressed by his very appearance as Otto stared at the pedestrian with great interest.
Otto: ...Your Jacket and glasses... Give them to me.
The next day after such a horrendous night, Spider-Man had personally joined with the police and S.H.I.E.L.D. as they conducted an investigation following the outbreak that took place with Doctor Octavius, standing in the operating room where it took place.
Spider-Man: (Looks at the claw marks, placing his hand on the wall) ...This... This isn't like him. (Turns to the group) I don't understand how Doctor Octavius would do this, he'd never hurt anyone unless they threaten him or his colleagues.
Yuri: (Folded his arms) Well, apparently Octavius didn't see it that way, because, based on the witness statements, it was a nightmare in here.
Coulson: (Turns to Spider-Man) About ten people were killed in here, massacred.
Spider-Man: But it wasn't him! It was the Arms! They must have been triggered by a self-defense mechanism somehow, it must have caused them to react this way!
George: Witnesses also report him standing in the middle of the street just outside of the Hospital, awake, fully aware of his actions.
Jessica: (Is wearing shades as she looked at the white chalked body lines) And apparently eager to steal someone's trench jacket from what I recall.
Spider-Man: Then, he must have been delirious! Suffering from the Harness somehow, I don't know! Maybe he lost his memory, didn't remember who he was, like Jason Bourne!
Yuri: You seem very anxious to prove Doctor Octavius's innocence somehow.
Spider-Man: Well, of course! Doctor Octavius helped me and S.H.I.E.L.D. protect Mr. Jameson from the Spot! He wanted to help people, not slaughter them like animals, he isn't the bad guy!
George: Well, given that he doesn't have a criminal history, I'm going to take you at your word. But considering what happened, I'm telling every cop with a badge to stay alert for him, try to approach him cautiously if possible.
Coulson: And we will be happy to assist the NYPD on your BOLO. Given the nature of current events, I believe this involves a S.H.I.E.L.D. matter.
Jessica: We'll try to help Doctor Octavius in the best way we can. And if it need be, we'll consider non-lethal weaponry to stun him if things get bad.
Yuri: Then, I suppose in the meantime, we should go back to Horizon Labs, question Doctor Modell and Connors on where he would go. It would make the search a lot easier if we knew an exact location.
Spider-Man: Then, I'll go with you! Those two will be distressed when he hears about what happened, so maybe a friendly face will be able to help ease their stress.
Yuri: I appreciate the assist, but your assistance isn't necessary.
George: Because I'll be going with her. My Daughter interns at Horizon Labs and she has given a good word about them, so perhaps I'm the friendly face they'll need.
Spider-Man: Okay! So, what about me? What do I do? I wasn't there when Otto needed me, and I can't miss it a second time!
Jessica: Just, keep an ear out. It's a big city, and people will eventually notice a guy with Octopus Arms running around on the streets when they feel like some needed exercise.
Coulson: We'll call you if there's been an update.
Spider-Man sighed, turning around as he walked out of the hospital, activating Karen while he swung right through the air.
Spider-Man: Karen? I need you!
Karen: (Is seen active through Peter's POV) How may I help?
Spider-Man: (Hangs on a wall) Doctor Otto Octavius. I need you to run a satellite image all over Manhattan, give me details of where he was during the last twelve hours.
Karen: I'm afraid I can't do that quite yet. The Web is still undergoing the Update Patch you requested this morning. All functions won't be available until the patch has been made.
Spider-Man: (Sighs in irritation, leaning his head back) Dammit, I should have updated it yesterday like I was supposed! So, what about CCTV? Can't you access it?
Karen: As I said, all Web functions won't be available until the Update has been completed. I am sorry, but I'm afraid I can't do more than look through data files on every person in the World.
Spider-Man: Okay... (Hummed softly as he rubbed his Mask) Uh, go over every single place Otto Octavius has been to, find a pattern he chooses to do. Maybe I'll be able to find him if I find the pattern!
Karen: As you wish.
Spider-Man: Oh, and contact Ned, see if he's available. (Swings off of the building) I could use his help tracking him down.
Karen: With pleasure.
As he continued exploring the city, Ned and Gloria were seen at Randy's house as she was seen crafting some art on her IPad, the boys were playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 on his PS4.
Randy: Come on, Leeds! You got this! You can get 'em!
Ned: I'm trying, dude! But the players won't hold still!
Randy: Hey, you got this! Make them come to Daddy, come on!
Ned's face twitches as he plays as Darth Maul, cutting through enemy players on Kashyyyk until he was killed off by a player flying a starfighter, much to his dismay.
Ned: Oh, come on! (Throws the remote on the couch) Dammit, the troll killed me!
Randy: (Sighs) Hey, it's fine, Ned. At least you've got a 12 killstreak as Maul, so that was pretty impressive.
Ned: 12? I saw you get a streak of 25 when you were playing it!
Randy: Well, it takes a lot of concentration and focus when you're dealing with PVP! Sometimes, you've got to know when's the best time to strike your opponent.
Gloria: (Turns to the two) Does that involve knowing when to avoid getting bombarded by a Y-Wing?
Randy: (Groans softly) Okay, that part there isn't anything you can do about because, well... They do have the High Ground when they hover the skies, such as targeting players driving tanks, or players that are just running out in the open.
Ned: (Groans) May the Force curse that blasted High Ground.
Gloria: (Notices Ned's ringer going off as she checked to see Peter's name on it) Hey, Ned! Peter's calling!
Ned: (Widened his eyes) Okay, I'll get it! (Turns to Randy) Hey, can you take over real quick?
Randy: (Nods) Yeah, sure.
Ned: Yeah, I'm going to go outside for a bit!
He grabbed his phone and went outside to the backyard as he answered the phone call.
Ned: Hey, Pete, what's up?
Spider-Man: (Dives) Are you near a computer right now?
Ned: (Raises a brow) No... Why?
Spider-Man: (Swings upward) I need to find someone!
Ned: (Sighs) Seriously? On a weekend?
Spider-Man: It's Doctor Octavius, Ned!
Ned: (Raises a brow) Oh... Do you mean the guy that got hurt yesterday? Isn't he supposed to be in the hospital?
Spider-Man: Not anymore!
Ned: Wow... Okay, uh, I can use my phone, if that's okay with you.
Spider-Man: Just check CCTV, please! It's urgent!
Ned: Yeah, I got you covered. (Sits down on a table and starts going over to CCTV) Alright, so... I'm looking around the cameras, and I'm not seeing Otto Octavius anywhere.
Spider-Man: (Lands on a pole) What do you mean?
Ned: I mean, it's like Octavius just vanished from the face of the Earth! The only visual appearance was last night just outside the hospital. (Sees the Arms) Along... With four mechanical arms... Uh, dude?
Spider-Man: (Sighs) Don't worry about it, are you sure you can't find him?
Ned: (Shrugged) Sorry man. I'm out of luck from this end.
Spider-Man: Crap! (Looks around) Okay... Okay, thanks for your help, you did the best you could.
Ned: Uh, no problem! And uh, be careful, okay? This feels... Kinda scary for some reason.
Spider-Man: (Ends the call) ...Really? (Starts swinging once more) Feeling's mutual.
Later, after scouring the city for a while, Spider-Man went on top of the F.E.A.S.T. Shelter to change clothes. When he did, Peter walked inside, looking awfully depressed while he headed into the kitchen with Aunt May being there.
May: (Raises a brow) Peter? (Turns to her Nephew) What's the matter? You look distressed.
Peter: (Closes his eyes) I'm fine, May, it's nothing that needs to worry about.
May: Are you sure? I heard what happened at Horizon Labs yesterday, with one of those Doctors you're interning for?
Peter: (Nodded) Yeah, I know, but um, I'm doing okay, I promise.
May: (Nodded) Okay, well I'm around if you need anything.
She turned to leave as Peter sighed, rubbing his hair, Gwen came to visit him from inside the kitchen.
Gwen: Peter?
Peter: (Turns around, seeing Gwen) Gwen?
She sighed, walking over Parker to give him a hug, which surprised him, but initially, he returned the favor by wrapping his arms around her, enjoying the moment they have together.
Gwen: (Leans on his chest) Dad told me about what happened... (Pulls herself off) What is happening, Peter? Why would Otto do this?
Peter: (Scoffed) I honestly don't know. It must be the Harness somehow, Doctor Connors said that it melted right into his Ventral Root.
Gwen: So, the nerve impulses must be doing the talking, but... Why hurt innocent people? I don't understand...
Peter: Neither do I. But I'm going to figure this out, okay?
Gwen: (Nodded) I know you will.
Eddie: (Walks inside) Gwen? Parker?
Gwen: (Turns around, seeing Eddie) Eddie.
Eddie: (Turns to Gwen) What are you doing here?
Gwen: I uh... I came to see Peter about what happened yesterday.
Eddie: (Nodded) Right... The whole explosion incident at Horizon, I heard about that. Tough news. (Turns to Peter) You uh... You sure you want to be here?
Peter: (Sighs) I have... Absolutely nothing else to do at the moment, so this is as good as any.
Eddie: Alright, well... You'll be serving coffee duty during the first hour, and then come back to see how you're feeling afterward.
Peter: (Nodded) Thanks.
Eddie: Yeah, just don't think it means anything.
Peter grabbed the pot kettle and began walking into the gym, leaving Gwen and Eddie in the kitchen together.
Gwen: (Turns to Eddie) So... How have you been holding up?
Eddie: Uh, I've been doing okay. It's been hard at first, but everybody at F.E.A.S.T. welcomed me with open arms ever since my falling out with the Bugle. And trust me, getting a job after being scandalized by my old boss is not exactly a cakewalk.
Gwen: Well, I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out eventually.
Eddie: (Scoffed) And how do you know that?
Gwen: Because I know you, Brock. You're not only a tough guy, but you also find ways to just improvise somehow.
Eddie: Life isn't filled with shortcuts, Gwen.
Gwen: Well, no, obviously! But I do know that nothing ever lasts forever, so you'll find something eventually. You just have to keep looking.
Eddie: (Nodded) Whatever you say. (Placed a hand on her shoulder) It's nice seeing you, Gwen.
Gwen: (Nodded) Yeah, it was nice seeing you too. And please, do take care.
Eddie: Don't I always?
The two went separate ways while Peter continued to pour out coffee to Eileen and Cam, the two chess players in the gym.
Peter: (Pours down the caffeine on their mugs) Here you go! Please, enjoy your game!
Cam: Thanks, Kid. Really appreciate ya.
Eileen: It's always nice seeing you here.
Peter: Me too!
Peter walked around, still carrying the kettle in his hand when he walked into the cafeteria, approaching a man sitting alone on a table.
Peter: (Approaches the man) Hey, there, sir. Would you like a cup of coffee?
As he stopped in front of the man, the figure turned his face around. Much to Parker's surprise and horror, Otto Octavius sat on the table just staring at him from his spot as he dropped the kettle to the floor, shocked by his being here.
Peter: (Widened his eyes) Otto? D-Doctor Octavius? What are you doing here?
Otto: (Stands up, facing the young man) Peter... Whatever happens, do not interfere.
May: (Walks into the cafeteria) Oh, Peter! You dropped the kettle-!
With no warning left to spare, one of the arms pulled itself from the confines of the trench coat, pushing May against the wall as Peter and the rest of F.E.A.S.T's occupants turned to look in terror.
Peter: (Widened his eyes) MAY! (Walks to Otto) Otto, what are you doing-?! (Gets smacked by an Arm) ARRGH!
Gwen: (Sees Peter falling against the wall) PETER!
Eddie: Holy shit!
May: (Sees her Nephew getting hurt) PETER! (Turns to Otto) Please, don't hurt him! Not again, please!
Otto: If it's any consolation, I'm only here for you, not him.
Eddie: (Grabs a cricket bat lying against the wall) Stand back!
Gwen: (Sees Eddie advancing towards Otto) Eddie, no!
Eddie shouted as he tried hitting Otto by the back of his head, only to have two tendrils wrapped around both of his arms as he lifted up in the air for a moment, struggling in their grasp when the Arms slammed him against the edge of a table, doing so with enough force that it resulted in breaking his back as Brock let out a pained scream.
Gwen: (Widened her eyes) EDDIE! (Runs over to Brock) Oh my god, Eddie!
Homeless Person: Someone do something, that guy's hurting people!
Otto: (Turns to May, lifting his shades) There are some questions I'd like to ask, and you're going to answer it truthfully.
May: (Struggles in his grip) Listen, I don't know what your problem is, but leave everyone out of this! I want nothing of whatever the hell-!
Otto: (Leans his head forward) Richard... Parker. (Causes May to gasp softly) 11 years ago, he disappeared, along with his wife, Mary... Do you know where they went?
May: (Breathed cautiously as he faced the man) I... Don't know! He never told me where they were going!
Otto: (Sighs) Typical... Alright, did he tell you anything else? Anything about a particular ingredient?
May: No! No, he barely told me anything! Nor my late husband, not even to his own son!
Otto: ...I don't believe you. (His Arms pound on the wall next to her, inciting another scream) But, the brain does hide things even from its base conscious during times of fear... Perhaps, a proper motivator is in order.
With no time to waste, Otto carried May and started using the Arms to march through the F.E.A.S.T. shelter, people starting to back away out of fear as the man with Octopus Arms busted through the doors, walking right out into the street as May screamed, cars crashing onto the sidewalk while Otto dragged himself and May onto a building.
As they watched, Gwen watched from the kitchen as she turned to Eddie, still lying on the floor being injured.
Gwen: (Flips him on his back) Eddie... Eddie, talk to me!
Eddie: (Breathed shakingly) ...My legs... I can't feel... I can't feel my legs!
Gwen gasped softly as Eddie's pain rang in front of her, she turned to face Peter, only to find that he has vanished from thin air. Hinting this as a problem being taken care of, she went to take care of Eddie while others began to gather around her to help out Brock.
On the outside, Otto had carried May onto the top of a building as he had reached to the top, hanging her in the air while she was dangerously high enough from the ground surface.
Otto: (Stares at May) Has your memory been fully jogged yet?
May: AH! (Looks down, seeing that her shoe fell from her feet as she gasped. Then she turned, facing Otto) Please! My Nephew, he just lost his Uncle! I'm the only person he has left, please don't do this!
Otto: Then tell me what Richard told you! What did he say before he left?
May struggled, scared of the man holding her at her mercy. Then, a claw dropped her for a moment, only to catch her as she screamed out of fright.
Otto: TELL ME!
May: (Pressed her hands against the metal, holding on for dear life) He... He said something was wrong at Oscorp! That's all, he never said anything else, I swear! Oh my god, that's all I know, please don't kill me!
?: HEY!
Octavius turned around, having been hit by a powder bag as he grunted, wiping the dust out of his eyes as he turned to see Spider-Man hanging on the side of the wall, with a pissed off brow.
Spider-Man: (Glares at Otto) LET HER GO!
Otto: (Sighs, seeing the Wall-Crawler) Well, you took your time.
Spider-Man: Let... (Stands on the wall, still glaring) Her... Go!
Otto: ...You really ought to be careful about your choice of words.
May let out a scream as the claw holding her dropped, making fall right onto the street much to Spidey's dismay.
Spider-Man: (Widened his eyes) MAY!
He jumped out, diving right after her as Octavius had made his escape, Spider-Man grabbed his Aunt and spun a web, causing the two of them to slow down their speed until they reached the ground safely.
Spider-Man: (Lets her go) Are you okay?
May: (Sighed in relief, holding her chest) Yes, thank you! Oh my goodness, thank you!
Spider-Man: No problem, Ma'am! Just get to safety, the police will help you!
She nodded her head, making her way to return to the shelter as Spider-Man looked up, seeing that Doctor Octavius had vanished once again.
Spider-Man: (Sighs) ...Damn... What happened to you, Otto?
Later, police had gathered around F.E.A.S.T. as Eddie Brock was cartwheeled onto an ambulance, May was seen having a towel wrapped around her shoulders when Peter returned out of his Suit.
Peter: (Runs over to May) MAY!
May: (Turns to see her Nephew) Peter!
Both of them sighed as they hugged each other, relieved that they seemed okay for the most part.
May: (Placed her hands on his shoulders) Are you okay? He didn't hurt you too badly, did he?
Peter: I'm fine! What about you?
May: I'm okay! Spider-Man saved me, I'm okay! (Raised her hands on her Nephew's cheeks) Where were you? People told me you vanished after he took me, what happened?
Peter: (Rubbed his head) Uh...
Gwen: (Walks to Peter) He left for the medical center. (Turns to May) Everyone was crowded, so it was hard for anybody to see him walk to check his injuries. And he's doing okay, so that's good.
May: (Sighs) And Eddie?
Gwen: Being sent to the hospital as we speak. He'll be okay.
Peter: (Turns to May) May... Why did Doctor Octavius ask about my Dad?
May: (Gasped softly) I... I don't know. (Turns to walk inside) Um, Peter, come with me. I'll be driving you home as soon as I collect some things.
Peter watched her walk inside the shelter as he stood with Gwen, George and Yuri arrived as they started asking for May.
Gwen: (Turns to see the cops) Peter...
Peter: (Turns around, seeing the Captain and Detective) Uh, not now! I've got to talk to May.
Gwen: Go. I'll tell my Dad and Yuri everything, just go to her.
Peter: (Nods, making a small bow) Thank you.
He started to leave while Gwen walked over to her Father, answering everything that happened while May was seen inside of her office, sighing as she drank a cup of water while she sat on her desk.
Her back leaned against the soft fabric of the chair while her eyes leaned down on a picture of herself, Ben, Richard, and Mary... Reminiscing an old memory she had...
Then, she put the picture frame down, trying to bury that memory as she rubbed her hair, trying to find something that could put it at ease possibly. Then her eyes drifted off to a hand-drawn picture of a Green-tree was held in May's hand, looking at the drawing that younger Peter had made when he was still a toddler. Then present age Peter walked in, confronting his Aunt.
Peter: May... (Leans his hand on the wall) May, I love you, but there's something you're not telling me.
May: (Closes her eyes) Peter.
Peter: Every time, I tried mentioning my parents, your eyes would either look down on the ground, or you'd just simply close them shut the way you are doing it now. (Walks inside of her Office) May, Otto Octavius just tried to kill you because of something you knew about my Dad, and even when he was asking you about it, your face just contorted in fear.
May: (Turns to Peter) I was held against the wall by a man with Octopus Arms!
Peter: (Nodded) Yeah, and that's a reasonable excuse for most of it, except for when he asked about my Dad! (He sees her turn her head down) May, I know you're not telling me something, you lie to me. And I know you love me.
May: (Turns to Peter) Peter, I don't lie to you-!
Peter: May, I know you love me, but you do! You do, I know you do, I can feel it.
May: (Sighs as she sat on the couch) Peter, please, can we not do this now?
Peter: Honestly, I'd love nothing more than to just go home and relax! (Turns to her, kneels before her as he placed his hands against his Aunt's) But a man tried to kill us because of something you knew about Dad. Okay? That's not something I'd just want to simply drop! Aunt May, please, you're always telling me to be honest with you, so now it's your turn! Come on, you have to tell me the truth, please! It's my Father we're talking about here, my own parent!
May: (Bit her lip, turning to her Nephew) Yes... Yes, he was your Father... But that didn't seem to stop him from leaving you-! (Closed her eyes) With... Me and your Uncle Ben.
Peter: I'm not worried about what I already know about the past. I'm just worried about the truth.
May: (Sighs deeply, holding a firm grip on the couch) Okay... Here's the truth. (Turns to Peter) Your parents left you at my Apartment, at our front doorstep when you only Four Years Old. And you were just this little boy, whose whole world got turned upside down, without reasonable explanation otherwise. (Placed her hands on her Nephew's) The truth is, your Uncle and I have done the best we could, just your Uncle Ben and I, no one else.
Peter: (Closed his eyes) Aunt May-!
May: Who else was going to take care of you? To protect you? To worry about you, your Father? (Shook her head) No, no it was me that had to. I was the one who had to wipe your nose, who made you brush your teeth, and do your homework, and wash your dirty underwear, all that was me! Your stupid, non-scientific Aunt, who doesn't know how to make ends meet, who is struggling to run an entire F.E.A.S.T. Shelter all by herself, and honestly, I just don't know how to do this without Ben!
She gasped as she gave herself a facepalm, letting herself catch a break as Peter stood back to let his Aunt have some breathing room.
May: (Sighed heavily, her hand on her chin) Peter, I understand more than anyone about how much you want to know about your parents, but you are asking me questions that even I ask myself mentally, and especially for a man who has missed 11 years of your entire life, it just puts me and your Uncle under the edge, just as it is right now!
Peter: (Placed his hands together, centering both palms in sync) Look, I get it. 11 years of my life, and he nor my Mom were around to see me grow. But there is a man that has torn this place apart because of something that involves my Dad! That involves our family!
May: Peter, whatever that man was thinking-!
Peter: That man could try hurting us again a second time! Something is wrong with Otto somehow, and I don't feel comfortable with the fact that he could strike out on us again, perhaps do something that could take us out permanently! You said it yourself, May! You were always there to protect me, to worry about me! Now, this is where your job comes into play, so, please! For the possibility of life or death, just tell me something that I haven't known yet! Something that could help the police!
May: (Looks down on the floor, standing up on her feet) Okay... (Turns around to her desk, sitting down to slide the picture back up) There was... A conversation that your parents and I had with Ben right before they left on the night you stayed with us.
Peter: (Stands up, folding his arms) And? What did you guys talk about?
She sighed, as her eyes started to narrow back onto the frame that she had initially put down as an old memory began to stir once more...
11 years ago, Ben and May Parker's residence.
The adults were all seen gathered at the living room as each held a small coffee mug of their own while the youngest tried his best to at least understand the words of this very conversation.
Ben: (Sits down next to May) So... What's going on, Ben? You look really distressed.
Richard: (Clasped his hands together as he sat next to Mary) If I do, it's probably for a good reason.
May: Well, what happened? Why do you look so nervous?
Mary: (Sighs slowly, biting her nails) May... Our house was just robbed.
May: (Widened her eyes) What?
Ben: Oh my god, Richy. How much did you lose?
Richard: Well, here's the thing. (Placed his mug on the patio table) None of our belongings or money were ever stolen. It's rather what they stole that concerns me.
Ben: (Raises a brow) What? What are you talking about?
Richard: (Sighs, taking off his glasses) I don't have a lot of time on my hands, so I'm only going to explain in the smallest of details that you only need to know about.
May: Like what?
Richard: (Leans back, holding hands with his Wife as he lowered his eyes down) My research was supposed to be intended to save lives, to help the world be rid of Cancer. A cure for Cancer. But, then I found something out that caused me to withdraw my research, just last week.
Ben: Was it at Oscorp?
Richard: I can't say anything further than that.
May: Why not?
Richard: Because, I fear that I may jeopardize not only the lives of both of you but the life of our own son, Peter. (Turns to his son hiding behind a corner in a barely opened door) Which... Leaves to something the two of you may object.
Ben: (Scoffed, shaking his head) Richard... You can't be serious. You can't be serious!
Richard: I'm not kidding, Ben. This a serious matter of life or death.
Ben: Oh god, this is ridiculous. (Gets out a phone) Here, take this. Call the police, tell them everything!
Richard: (Stands up) No, I can't. We're in too deep, this is beyond anyone's control at this point.
May: Look, if you and Mary are in trouble, then why don't you call the police?
Richard: The police can't help us, May! Nobody can! Not even you or Ben.
Ben: And you think you're helping Peter by leaving?!
Richard: I do, and I hate this as anyone else does, but this is the only solution to keeping him safe!
Mary: We're so sorry to do this, but you two are the closest he has to a family!
Ben: God, what the hell have you gotten yourselves into! What the hell is wrong with Oscorp that you're resorting to this shit?!
Richard: I wish I could say more, but I just can't! The more you know, the more you both are in trouble.
Ben: Well, at least tell us where you're going!
Richard: (Shook his head) We can't tell you that either.
Ben: Why not?!
Richard: Because there are people that will cause harm to those who have knowledge of our whereabouts, and if I told you where Mary and I are going, then I'd only place you, May, and Peter at risk! Now I only ask you, just please... Trust me, and promise you'll take care of our Son...
May: (Stands up) Richard, Mary! Do you even know what you're asking of us? You're asking us to raise someone who's going to wonder where his parents have been for his whole life!
Richard: We understand that we are asking a lot out of you! And believe me, I wish this was something I could change had I had it any other way, but the truth is, I don't! (Sighs) Now... Please, I am essentially begging you... Promise me you'll take care of Peter, whatever happens... Just promise you'll take your word at that simple request...
May and Ben turned to face each other, uncertain of their choices. Then May turned around, seeing Lil' Peter peeking through the door as she just gave out a small smile, trying to show some form of reassurance.
Present Day.
May sighed as she held the picture of herself and the rest of the Parker Family minus Peter, who was listening to everything she had said to him.
May: ...After that, you know the rest... Your parents said their goodbyes, you stayed with Ben and me, and... The rest is just history at that point.
Peter: (Gasped slightly, leaning back) ...All those years... Whenever I wanted to hang out with Harry... Did you-?
May: (Shook her head) Peter, I always encouraged you to hang out with Harry! He always seemed like such a nice man! But you being at Oscorp? I just... It always gave me concern. (Put the picture down) It's why I encourage you to intern with Tony Stark, or someplace else like Horizon Labs. Your Dad's research, whatever it was that he worked on... I feel like that would have been more problematic than better.
Peter looked at the ground, just trying to take in the information that was garnered into his head. Then without a moment left to lose, he started to get up and walk away.
May: (Raises a brow) Peter? Where are you going?
Peter: (Rubbed his head) I... I need some air, to think.
May: (Sighs) Peter, just stay-!
Peter: (Turns to May) Please, May! I just need it.
Peter walked out of F.E.A.S.T, leaving May to remain behind as she sighed, rubbing her hair as the past had officially caught up with the family after 11 whole years.
Later, at Horizon Labs, Max Modell, Curt Connors, and Happy Hogan were seen watching the news of Otto's attack on F.E.A.S.T. when Yuri Watanabe came inside of the lab.
Yuri: (Walks inside) Excuse me? I'm looking for Doctor Maxwell Modell.
Max: (Turns around, seeing the officer) Yes, that's me.
Yuri: (Turns to Max, showing her Badge off) Detective Watanabe, NYPD. We may have met before during the Toomes incident.
Max: Yes, I have a very vivid memory of that event.
Happy: (Folds his arms) I'm guessing you're here because of the Doc Ock?
Yuri: In a certain matter of things. I've come to ask questions about Doctor Octavius.
Curt: Officer, I don't think now is the best time to even come asking questions-!
Max: It's alright. (Stands up) It's fine, I feel like I owe it up to Otto anyhow. (Pressed his hands into his pockets) What would you like to know?
Yuri: Doctor Otto Octavius. How did he receive those arms?
Max: (Scratches his beard) Oh... We, made it ourselves. (Folded his arms) Otto and I, when we first started Horizon, we dedicated ourselves to helping people with dismembered limbs, to improve people's livelihoods, so to speak. But then, when the Goblin showed up at Halloween, Otto made it personal that he'd put the Arms into production immediately-!
Yuri: (Raises a brow) So, you wanted to help change the world by handing out robot tentacles?
Max: (Shook his head) No. Oh, god no! No, those were to help Otto improve himself on the research. He practically wanted to have a greater advantage, improved speed to accelerate the production of the bionic limbs that we'd manufacture.
Yuri: Then why go on a rampage? Why slaughter a bunch of doctors and nurses in the hospital? Why attack a homeless shelter in the middle of Chinatown?
Curt: (Walks to the Detective) The Arms, they're connected to a neural harness. It's programmed to obey commands directly from the mind itself, which was a brilliant masterpiece at the time. We have reason to believe that when the explosion occurred, the neural interface attached to the harness was melted right into his spine, into the Ventral Root. We tried explaining it to the doctors, but they assured us that they'd have it taken care of.
Max: (Rubbed his head) It's all my fault. I was the one who encouraged Otto to go create the harness, I should have realized that it would have some setbacks behind it!
Happy: Hey, don't worry about it, Doc. Casting blame to ourselves ain't gonna solve a thing, it's not going to make things better.
Yuri: (Sighs) Okay. So, you believe this is a result of some kind of mechanical glitch that's affecting his mental health?
Curt: Yes. The harness was melted inside of his skin, right up into the back of his neck. It could be the prime reason as to why Otto could be behaving in this manner.
Max: Excuse me for one moment; just how exactly are you going to help Doctor Octavius?
Yuri: Well... Given what you've told me, I believe we may have to consider a cautious approach to apprehend Octavius. As of now, we don't consider his intentions to be known to have any criminal indication, so we will consider it as a case of mental health issues.
Max: (Sighed) I understand.
Yuri: So, is there a way to remove the harness without coming into direct contact? Is there an off switch we can use?
Curt: No. Everything works by the mind itself, the only way those arms can be turned off is if you set an EMP on the back of Otto's skull, which is something highly unrecommended considering how severe that sounds.
Max: (Gets a phone call) Please, excuse me. (Turns to the others) My husband, he's calling. I have to answer.
The doctor began to walk out of his lab shortly after answering the call. After a while, he conversed with said Husband on the phone, pacing back and forth in the dark lit hallway.
Max: (Sighs) Yeah. Yeah, I'll be home as soon as this is over. (Shook his head) No, Hector! Please, don't do that, we haven't crossed over to the Legal side of things, at least not yet. (Turns around) Look, I'll call you when I'm coming back, okay? (Nods) ...Yeah... I love you too.
He ended the call, releasing some air after finishing the call. Anxious to go back to the lab, he turned around to face a bitter Otto Octavius, much to his shock as the Arms hovered in the air.
Max: (Widened his eyes) Otto?!
Otto: (Walks over to Max) Maxwell... I see that your Husband, the Lawyer, is concerned about you.
Max: (Stood back, nodding his head) Yes... And so am I, as a matter of fact.
Otto: (Tilted his head) About your safety? Your health?
Max: (Shook his head) About yours... (Took a step) Otto... You have to listen to me, you're... You're not well.
Otto: Am I? (Moves closer to Max) Because from where I'm standing... I've never felt more... Enlightened.
Max: (Scoffed) Otto, what are you talking about? What are you enlightened about?
Otto: (Turns his head away, sensing two of the arms hovering next to his head) ...The explosion... It... Triggered something. Memories, old and buried deep in my mind... (Scoffed) And I'm still contemplating just how good I am at burying memories... Especially the bad ones, where you just want nothing more than to push it down, like a coward who's helpless to do anything... (Turns to Max) At least... Until I finally have my Arms to help me.
Max: (Raises a brow) Otto... What memories? What are you thinking about?
Otto: Ah... Funny you should ask that. (Clicks his tongue) Uh... What I am thinking about are two things. (Shook his head) No... Three things to be exact. (Looms over Max) One... An old colleague of mine from about a decade ago... (Rises high in the air) Two... Norman. (Planted two Arms in between Max) And lastly... The access codes you have to gain entry into Oscorp.
Max: ...What do you mean?
Otto: Oh, Maxwell. (Uses a claw to caress the side of his friend's face) You've always been so good to me, especially during the darkest of times... But you've never been a good liar.
Max's voice choked as the claw reached for his throat, pinning him against the wall as Otto raised him up with brutal force.
Otto: (Stares at Max, coldly) The codes, Maxwell... My patience runs thin as it is.
Max: (Gagged, holding the metallic machinery by the limb) Otto... Stop... Police...!
Otto: Ah, yes, I'm aware of the police Detective. And if you've been keeping up with the news lately, you should know that I am more than willing to deal with her right now as I am dealing with you.
Max: (Wheezes) Otto... Please!
Otto: (Leans forward) Last chance, Max.
Max held onto the limb, holding on to dear life as he tried pushing it off of him to no avail. Finally, after reaching his limit point, he got out his pocket and started handing out his old Sony smartphone.
Max: Take it... Take it!
Otto humbly accepted the phone, allowing the arms to relinquish their hold on Max as he was dropped to the floor, wheezing for air as he held his now bruised throat.
Otto: (Looks at the phone, hacking it in to see the codes) ...There we are. (Turns to Max) Thank you, Maxwell... I'll be sure to put this to good use.
Max: (Coughs hoarsely, covering his throat) How... How can you do this? You made a promise, to the world... To everyone, to do good! You made that promise with me!
Otto: I did. (Turns his head, narrowing his eyes) But... After what happened... I realized that what the world needs is not someone with a good heart... But rather, someone with the will to do what is necessary for the name of balance... And sanity.
Otto made his exit, leaving Maxwell behind while he passed by a table holding onto a basket of roses.
1 month ago, Metro General Hospital.
Otto held a bag of roses in his hand, walking around the halls of the hospital as he turned to a doctor that had just exited from a patient's room.
Otto: Doctor? How is she?
Doctor: (Turns to Otto) She just woke up. You've come right on time, she's been asking for you.
Otto: (Nods) Thank you, doctor.
He turned to open the door, relieving himself of a sigh as he approached a woman lying on a bed in a hospital patient's clothing as her eyes narrowed over to Octavius holding a bag of flowers in his hand.
Woman: (Sees Otto) Otto... Are those for me?
Otto: (Nodded, urging a smile) Yes, darling Rosie. They are for no one other than you.
Rosalie: (Hums as she felt a kiss planted on her lips) How sweet of you to do that. (Looks around) Otto?
Otto: Yes?
Rosalie: What... (Tries getting up, lifting her waist up) What is this place? This isn't our home.
Otto: (Shook his head) No. No, you're in the Hospital, Rosie.
Rosalie: Really? I don't remember coming here this morning.
Otto: ...Rosalie... You've been in the hospital for weeks... I've had you here for 12 years, you haven't been home in a long time.
Rosalie: Oh... (Leans back down as she turns to look out the window) I... I can't seem to remember.
Otto: (Sighs, closing his eyes while he sets the flowers aside) I, don't really expect you to, honey. (Sits down) The Alzheimer's Disease in your system is affecting your brain deeply and has been since you were first administered years ago. (Placed his hand on her palm) And due to that, I can't really point blame at you for something the mind cannot control.
Rosalie: (Hums, still facing the window) ...How was your day?
Otto: Um... Fine, actually. A colleague of mine at work finally completed a project of ours, one that may help us with research.
Rosalie: Oh. (Turns to Otto) So... Does this mean you and Doctor Parker finally found that Cure you've always been talking about?
Otto: (Lowers his brow) ...Um, no. (Turns to Rosalie) Actually, Richard is... No longer with us, I'm afraid.
Rosalie: (Raises a brow) What happened?
Otto: He... Went away, so to speak.
Rosalie: Well... What does that mean?
Otto: ...He left New York, Rosalie.
Rosalie: Oh. (Widened her brow) Oh, but... But you two were doing such good work together, why would he leave?
Otto: (Shook his head) I don't know... And quite frankly, I doubt any person that was close to him can possibly answer that.
Rosalie: Well... Did he say why?
Otto: (Closed his eyes) No, and quite frankly, that's something that was bugging me for a long time. (Stands up) He and I... The research, even though the thing with Spiders didn't pan out... We were going to make such good work together. And suddenly, he pulled himself out of the research without an explanation, and then afterward, he and his Wife just vanished.
Rosalie: Hmm... Strange. (Tilts her head) Could it... Could it be that he had an... An argument with Mr. Osborn somehow?
Otto: (Narrows his eyes) ...Before he left, I did... (Turns around, facing his wife) Good lord, now that you mentioned it; the day before he left; he was having an argument with Norman. Then after that, he left his office without saying a word, took his notes, and just left. (Planted a hand on his chin) And I never had a chance to ask why after that.
Rosalie: Oh... (Exhales) Well, if there was some sort of fight with Mr. Osborn, then Richard would be justified. After all, you would sometimes tell me that man tends to just, take all the credit even though his employees do most of the work for him.
Otto: (Nodded, his expression being brown bitter) Yes... Yes, he always would.
Rosalie: And, even though he says it was his doing; I've seen all the works that were crafted, and I know that it was your making, Otto. And that of Richard's. Even though he tends to have all the rewards, Norman knows his own truth. And that truth is... (Coughs) Is that his success would not have been possible... (Coughs) If it weren't for his best... And brightest.
She started to cough coarsely, much to her Husband's concern as he turned to grab a glass of water, hoping to ease the dry throat she has as he sat back down, looking at Rosalie intimately.
Rosalie: (Stares at Otto again) ...Otto? (Smiles) Why you're back so early! (Notices the roses on the table next to her) Oh! Are those for me?
Otto looked at his wife, seeing the Disease having wiped away any memory of their previous conversation in that swift moment as his eyes went from a look of mental thought to a look of tragic sadness...
Otto: (Forced a smile, nodding) Yes darling... (Holds her hand) They are for no one other than you.
Otto made his way to plant a kiss on his Wife's hand as a nurse in the hallway began to pass by their room.
Present Day.
A nurse passed by Eddie Brock's room as he laid in bed, having been shown an X-Ray photo of his own spine having been shattered while Gwen stood next to the doctor in attendance.
Doctor: The impact left your vertebrae shattered. As you can see, the bones have been broken to pieces on your spine, which I can imagine is currently sending mixed signals to the link between the thoracic spine control and your nerves.
Eddie: So... What you're telling me is that my chances of walking out of the hospital are screwed.
Doctor: Um, no. (Chuckled) No, you should be able to heal with the right medication, and the proper time to consume-!
Eddie: (Turns to the doc) How much is it gonna cost me though?
Doctor: (Widened his brow) Oh... Well, normally, the financial payments are usually requested until after-!
Eddie: (Scoffed) Yeah, that's what I thought.
Gwen: (Turns to the doc) Forgive him, he's had a bad day! Can you give him some time to consider any treatments?
Doctor: (Nodded) Of course.
He turned to exit the room as Gwen turned around, facing Brock while sitting down on a chair.
Gwen: (Placed a hand on Eddie's wrist) I know you're struggling with money. But, I know someone at Horizon Labs who used to work at Stark Industries. If you want, I can pull some strings, maybe help pay for the fees-!
Eddie: (Shook his head) No, don't worry about it, Gwen. (Turns to the window) You've had a shitty week as it is, so you don't need to get involved in another crap problem.
Gwen: Well, I appreciate your humbleness, but Eddie, your wounds are bad! One of the people I interned for had hurt you, and god! I can't help but feel guilty about what happened!
Eddie: Well, don't blame yourself, Gwen. I don't blame you.
Gwen: (Sighed, rubbing her hair) Ugh, you're too kind.
Eddie: If anything, I blame Spider-Man for this. (Looked at an electronic billboard, seeing Spidey fight Octavius) The so-called superhero everybody's been talking about recently. A guy who is supposed to help people, and yet, a guy who neglected to help me because of some bullshit I made at the Bugle.
Gwen: (Looks at Eddie, scoffing lightly) Ed... You can't blame Spider-Man for not being there earlier. It's a big city, you can't expect him to show up anywhere you want him to be when you need help the most!
Eddie: (Turns to Gwen) Oh? Like you expected him to show up when Screwball held you and your Dad hostage Friday night?
Gwen: (Scoffed, shaking her head) That's not fair, Eddie.
Eddie: Is it? (Raises himself by the waist) Because, from where I'm sitting, you seem to rely on him, depend on him every time you're in trouble! Yet, you never seem bothered when he smashes other people's cameras or when he starts chasing after the bad guys while you walk on a goddamn wire!
Gwen: Okay, Friday was entirely different! I chose to be there for at least half of the time!
Eddie: Because you were certain that Spidey would be there, am I right? I mean, of course, I'm right! (Chuckled) I mean, who else other than the Amazing Spider-Man to come crawling to your rescue, because apparently, you and he are just universally connected somehow! Am I right, or am I right?!
Gwen: (Shook her head) Okay, I came here to support you, but you know what? I'm not able to do that if you're just going to be sitting on the bed being pissed off in your angry phase. (Stands up) So, I'm just gonna let you cool it for a while.
Eddie: Oh, so here you go again! Leaving me all over again, how ironic! What? Are you afraid your Dad's gonna micromanage like he micromanaged our relationship?!
Gwen: (Turns around) See you later, Eddie.
Eddie: (Scoffed) You what, Gwen? (Leans down) Don't even bother, just get out.
Gwen turned around, seeing Eddie being extremely bitter as she sighed, leaving his room while Randy, MJ, Ned, Gloria, and Harry arrive.
Gloria: (Walks over to Gwen) Gwen!
Gwen: (Sees her friends, and gets hugged by Gloria as she sighed, hugging back) Hey.
Harry: (Folded his arms) We heard about what happened. Are we allowed to see Eddie?
Gwen: Um... (Breaks off the hug) Yeah, but I'd give him some space. Eddie's feeling really agitated, so...
Randy: Well, I can't say I'd blame him. I'd feel pissed if somebody with Octopus Arms started slamming my back onto the edge of a table.
Ned: (Looks around) Hey, where's Peter? Is he also okay?
Gwen: Yeah! Yeah, he was at F.E.A.S.T. the last time I saw him.
MJ: (Folded her arms) Any idea why Doctor Octopus started attacking his Aunt?
Gwen: No, but... (Raises a brow) Wait... What did you say?
MJ: Doctor Octopus. (Gets her phone out) It's literally what people are calling him because of something Jameson said on the news.
Gwen: (Rolls her eyes) Of course he did.
Harry: (Rubbed his hair) Seriously, why attack May? She's nothing more, but a sweet caring angel.
Gwen: Doctor Octavius... (Rubbed her eyes) He's just acting delirious because of the harness melted into his Ventral Root, it's affecting his brain patterns.
Randy: Well, I hope someone out figures it out, because apparently there's an arrest warrant out for the guy.
Gwen: (Widened her eyes) What? Why? Otto's a victim in all this! (Scoffed) Goddammit, Dad!
Ned: Uh, actually, your Dad wasn't the one who implemented the warrant.
Gwen: (Raises a brow) Then who did?!
At City Hall, George Stacy was confronting the Mayor as he walked right into his office.
Koch: (Turns to George) Captain Stacy. Come for a cup of tea, I presume?
George: (Walks to the Mayor) You issued a warrant against Doctor Octavius, without my consent.
Koch: (Raises a brow) Really? And since when did you take this case so personally?
George: The only thing I find personal is that you conducted the warrant without my permission to even confirm it!
Koch: Well, apologies if I hurt your feelings, George. (Placed his coffee on the desk) But, given the manual instructions that I was sent by one of the Government's most efficient law enforcers, it read that I did not need to feel like I had to act with the advisement from any local police. And that includes you.
George: (Folded his arms) Still mad I didn't arrest someone capable of helping the city?
Koch: Someone who is considered to be a vigilante, who you were more than willing to allow his actions to go unpunished for a long time. (Turns around) And besides, just look at what's going on! Doctor Octopus, Doc Ock, whoever you'd like to call him, he's clearly a menace to the City!
George: Not intentionally. There's a mechanism attached to his spine-!
Koch: Call it what you will. (Turns to face the Captain) But it's my job to uphold the sacred duty to keep the residents of New York County protected to the best of my abilities, just as much as it is yours. After all, given that you've seen what he did to those people in that hospital, and to that shelter at Chinatown, I'd reckon that you know damn well more than anyone that mentally ill or not, that man should not be out on the streets for the heinous actions he himself had committed. For that, you know that this only ends one way or the other. So hate me all you want, but you know that I'm right about this.
George: (Sighs) I'm not going to have my officers commit brutality if that's what you're implying.
Koch: I'm not expecting police brutality, Captain. I'm only expecting that you uphold the law as you were meant to do. (Turns to his desk) Now, if you have any other complaints, feel free to talk to your best friend, Nick Fury. But just know that he's already agreed to this matter, and he's not going to change his mind from the sound of it.
George shook his head at that. Then without a word, he started to exit the building as Koch just watched with his hands clasped together. Soon after that, George entered the sidewalk to walk next to Yuri.
Yuri: How it'd go?
George: What do you think? (Walks to his car) Look, we do as the warrant says, but we don't shoot to kill. (Turns to Yuri) If what Doctor Modell and Connors says is true, we might as well try to contain him.
Yuri: Try? George, the man has four robot arms capable of handling manslaughter. None of our guys could handle him, this is S.H.I.E.L.D's territory.
George: Well, considering that S.H.I.E.L.D. gave the Greenlight to issue a warrant, I'd say this is a conflict of interests. (Opens his car) Now, come on. We've got a doctor to find.
The two went inside and drove off while Spider-Man was seen swinging through the air, contacting Fury.
Spider-Man: Why did you have a warrant issued, Fury?! Otto is sick, not a bad guy!
Fury: And that sick man is more than willing to allow your own Aunt to fall to her death. Sorry kid, but this became a priority one. Fury out. (Ends the call)
Spider-Man: (Lands on the ledge) Damn! (Sighs) Karen, tell me you've got something!
Karen: I do. Doctor Octavius tends to make an occasional visit to the Metro General Hospital, visiting his wife, Rosalie Murphy Octavius.
Spider-Man: His wife? Has anyone spotted him there?
Karen: No, I have no reports of Doctor Octavius making a visit near the hospital other than his rampage from last night.
Spider-Man: Okay. Gwen's at the hospital checking on Eddie, so maybe she can help us out. Can you call-?
Karen: (Displays Gwen's face on her phone ID) Incoming call from Gwen Stacy.
Spider-Man: (Widened his eyes) Wow, that was quick. (Answers the call) Gwen!
Gwen: (Paces down the hallways) Hey! Have you found anything yet?
Spider-Man: Just did! Otto has a wife in the hospital, Rosalie Octavius!
Gwen: Rosalie? But, Pete, Rosalie has Alzheimer's Disease.
Spider-Man: (Lowered his brow) R... Really?
Gwen: Yeah! She's been diagnosed for like, 12 years. Her memory isn't really what it was before.
Spider-Man: (Leans against a brick wall) Alright... Well, can you go check on her? See if she at least made contact with him? We might have a good shot at knowing where her Husband's going to be heading to next!
Gwen: (Sighs) I mean... I can try looking for her. Rosalie is a very sensitive subject for Doctor Octavius, according to Doctor Modell.
Spider-Man: So, if we could try convincing him to stop, to make him think of his wife, then maybe we can end this! Maybe that's the kink that'll put an end to whatever's driving his mind to go wacko!
Gwen: (Stops) That's... Sounds like a huge leap of faith, but I trust you on this. (Nodded) Okay. I'm with some of the others, including Ned and GG. I'll grab the Squad, see if we can find Rosalie together.
Spider-Man: Awesome! In the meantime, I'm going to head down to Midtown, near Oscorp.
Gwen: (Raises a brow) Oscorp? Why?
Spider-Man: Uh... Just a feeling, I'll explain later when I have the chance.
Gwen: (Nodded) Okay, well be careful, alright? Take care, you Adorable Idiot. (Ends the call)
Spider-Man: (Breathes) Yeah... I'll take care.
Karen: I find it cute that she calls you an Adorable Idiot.
Spider-Man: (Widened his eyes) Oh my god, you were listening to that?!
Karen: Don't I always listen?
Spider-Man: (Sighs) Of course you do.
He spun a web, making his way to Midtown while Gwen just got off of the phone, making way to find Ned and GG when Harry walked by.
Harry: Gwen?
Gwen: (Turns around) Oh! Hey, Harry.
Harry: Was that Peter calling just now?
Gwen: Um... Yeah! Yeah, he was just worried about Eddie after what happened, he was just calling to ask how he's doing.
Harry: Oh. Well, that's good.
Gwen: (Pressed her hands into her pockets) Say, do you know where Ned and GG are?
Harry: Yeah! They're both hanging out at the lobby, just like everybody else was doing the whole time. Why do you ask?
Gwen: Um... I was thinking of grabbing some snacks, just to help ease off cravings. I noticed there was a deli just on one of the lower levels, so I'd thought I'd go find them, since they were the ones that have brought their wallets with them! So...
Harry: Oh, that's no need, I can pay for it.
Gwen: (Widened her eyes) Oh! Gosh, that's so sincere, but-!
Harry: It's okay, I don't mind! After all, I was hoping I'd talk to you about Peter anyways.
Gwen: (Raised a brow) Really? (Folded her arms) Okay, what would you like to talk about?
Harry: (Sighed) I dunno... Maybe the part where Ned, Peter, and I don't necessarily hang out as much, or the fact that we hardly even speak anymore.
Gwen: Well... I'm sure he has his reasons! I mean, you're hanging out with MJ every day, and Peter's dealing with... Stuff.
Harry: Yeah, but what kind of stuff exactly?
Gwen: I... (Shrugs) I don't even know myself.
Harry: (Scoffed) See? That's what I'm saying. (Sits down on a chair) Peter and I have been friends for a long time, and then out of nowhere, we suddenly just... Started to drift apart. And I know that this might sound like some local conspiracy theory or whatever, but... Sometimes, I feel like Peter's intentionally hiding things... Not just from me, but... From everybody basically, even his own Aunt.
Gwen: (Nodded nervously) Huh-uh...
Harry: I mean, I get it. Everybody enjoys some privacy, especially me whenever my Dad keeps bugging me. (Turns to Gwen) But you know? I started to notice that Peter's been making all kinds of excuses lately... Like he's trying to hide something big, and... (Scoffed) Apparently, he doesn't trust his own Best Friend to keep whatever secret he's hiding confidential or whatever. In fact, sometimes, I feel like that everybody seems to know what he's up to, and I'm just the stupid idiot who ends up finding out at the last minute.
Gwen: (Scoffed lightly) Okay, well just for the record; no one thinks you're an idiot, or stupid anyhow.
Harry: (Scoffed) Well, given the lack of genes I inherited, my Dad would think otherwise whether he'd care to admit it or not.
Gwen: (Sits in front of Harry) But, Peter doesn't think that you're some stupid, spoiled brat living in a fancy building. No one does! (Leans back) Look, for as long as I've started to know Peter... He's a smart guy! But at the same time, he can be such a clutz, especially when he's trying to explain even the most basic of questions.
Harry: (Nodded) Yeah, he can be like that sometimes.
Gwen: Right? Look, if Peter... Was somehow withholding something from you, it's probably something that's extremely personal to him. And, maybe he feels like he has to feel comfortable enough to open himself up about something with other people.
Harry: (Nods) Yeah... I think I can relate to that.
Gwen: Yeah! So you get it then? Sometimes, in order to open up, you have to do it step by step instead of just rushing it, because if anyone doesn't have a chance to at least feel comfortable about talking about something... (Looked at the floor, seeing a picture of Spider-Man) You'd feel... Embarrassed somehow.
Harry: (Sighs) Yeah, maybe you're right. Sometimes, some people just have to take one step at a time to do something.
Gwen: (Nodded, turning back to Harry) Right!
Harry: (Stood up, placing his hands into his pockets) Well... It's been fun, but you know what? Maybe you had a point about the deli. I can feel my stomach growling right now.
Gwen: (Smiled) Me too!
Harry: (Turns to Gwen) Um... What would you like?
Gwen: (Stands up) Whatever the hell this place has for sale.
Harry: (Smiled) Sounds good. (Turns around) Come on, let's see if anybody else is interested in some Deli Diving.
Harry started to lead Gwen down the halls, leaving her to follow his lead while she got out her phone, starting to text Ned and Gloria quietly
Gwen: Follow us to the Deli, then make up a bathroom excuse and follow me.
At Oscorp, Norman was seen witnessing reports of Otto terrorizing May Parker as Spider-Man dived right in to save her life, hearing Wilson Fisk's voice on his phone.
Fisk: This former Employer of yours... Is he going to be a problem?
Norman: (Scoffed, shaking his head as he grabbed his phone) I've known Otto for 15 years. He's nothing more than some runt without some will to carry out his goals, he's no problem to us.
Fisk: The news would say otherwise. I
Norman: Yeah, and the news can say a bunch of puppies getting rescued by a family of 12 for all I care! Look, if something comes up that bothers the Project, then I'll let you know ahead of time. Now, please, enjoy your evening, as I'll enjoy mine.
Fisk: Fine... But would you at least care to give me the details of this, Project of yours?
Norman: (Smiles) Willy... If I told you, that would kill the surprise, wouldn't it? Now, again, enjoy your night.
He ended the call as he walked out of his office, seeing Goblin casually sitting on the couch trying to play Fortnite.
Green Goblin: (Spits his tongue) Stupid little runt, why I outta-! (Turns to Norman) Can you believe this bullshit? 1st round of the game and the Dick kills me before I even get a goddamn chance to make a move!
Norman: (Walks past the couch) You're actually playing a game. The TV isn't even on, that's just a part of our shared imagination.
Green Goblin: Well, yeah... (Throws away the remote) That's what you get for not letting me go out on the field for a long time! I haven't had Recess ever since we trick and treated this City with our joyful sense of fun!
Norman: (Grabs a glass of whiskey) And you'll be bound to have plenty of more fun when we start getting into the final phases of the project.
Green Goblin: (Smiles) Ah yes... The project. (Stands up) Tell me... How do you expect a hound dog like Willy the Kid to not learn about our new territorial campaign?
Norman: (Turns around) Are you talking about Billy the Kid?
Green Goblin: Whatever, I'm using it because it rhymes, and it's mean and I like it!
Norman: (Grabs the glass) Wilson won't suspect a thing. Even if he does, it'll already be finished before he even knows it.
Green Goblin: And what do you expect me to do?
Norman: I expect you to be patient. After all, we've come this far into production, there's no need to panic just yet.
Felicia: (Knocks on the wall) Mr. Osborn?
Norman: (Turns to his assistant) Ah! Felicia, it's good you're here, I need you to make an appointment-!
Felicia: I'm sorry, but there's somebody here to see you.
Norman: (Raises a brow) And who exactly would that be-!
He was interrupted by a claw gripping him by the throat, pinning him against the window as Doctor Octopus started to walk behind Felicia, dangerously having an Arm lingering next to her head.
Doc Ock: That would be an old employee of yours. (Turns to Felicia) Thank you, dear. You're no longer needed here.
Felicia: (Turns to Norman) Mr. Osborn, I'm... I'm really sorry about this-!
Doc Ock: Oh don't apologize. Norman doesn't care, either way, now shoo.
Norman: (Grunted through the tight grip) It's... Alright.
As Norman gave his answer, he signaled her with his free hand. Then having received that signal, Felicia nodded, running away in haste as Octavius took that as a flee for her life, unaware that she only left to press on the silent alarm underneath her desk.
Doc Ock: (Sighs internally) So many years under your service... And all I ever got from you was to be stepped on like a goddamn doormat!
He flung Norman to the side of the office, making him crash onto a table as it was smashed to pieces upon impact. Norman grunted as he crawled up onto his knees, sensing the Goblin watching the whole thing happen from his desk.
Green Goblin: So... No need to panic just yet, eh?
Norman: (Groans as he turned around, facing Doc Ock) Octavius... Care to explain your uninvited visit?
Doc Ock: (Approaches Norman Sinisterly) You and I need to talk...
Norman: (Grunted as he got up) What's there to talk about? The time I fired you? Or the time I tried purchasing your company?
Doc Ock: An old mutual friend of ours... Richard, Parker.
Norman: (Scoffed) Well... I'll be damned-!
Norman yelped as he was dragged away from his office by the Arms, Spider-Man was nearing Oscorp when he got the alert on his Mask's hud.
Karen: Peter, there's an alarm going off at Oscorp!
Spider-Man: Dammit! (Jumps off of a wall) I need to hurry!
He made his way to the building while back in the hospital, Gwen was back with Ned and Gloria as they wandered the halls of Metro General.
Ned: Okay, so we're looking for Doc Ock's Wife?
Gwen: Doctor Octavius, and yes, we are. Peter thinks that some emotional attachment might be the way for him to stop all this, so we have to find her and get her to convince him to cease his rampage and get help!
Gloria: That sounds like a long shot. Are we even sure she's here?
Gwen: Peter said that Otto makes his visits here. She has to be here.
Ned: Can't we just go ask around? Maybe someone knows her as well as anyone if she's been here.
Gwen: Yeah, there was also someone that Octavius tends to speak with whenever he visits. I think there's a doctor that treats here around here. A Doctor Leonard Samson, I think.
Gloria: Okay, let's find him.
Gwen: We can't. He's not at work today, I asked.
Ned: Still, it wouldn't hurt to at least try to ask for where she is.
Gwen: Maybe. (Turns around to the reception's desk) Excuse me. Um, we're looking for a patient that's been living here for some time. Rosalie Octavius.
Nurse: (Turns to the kids) A Rosalie Octavius you say?
Gwen: Yeah.
Nurse: And who might you be?
Gloria: Uh, we're her Husband's students. Her husband's a doctor and teacher.
Ned: Yeah, Doctor Octavius wanted us to do some Facetime since he's out in Europe right now. She doesn't have access to a phone, so we're doing a really nice thing for him!
Nurse: (Looks at the three) ...Alright. May I have a name?
Gwen: ...Jill... Jill Stacy.
Nurse: (Nods as she turns to her computer) Just give me a moment.
Gloria: (Turns to Gwen, whispering) Did you just use your Cousin's name?
Gwen: (Turns to Gloria) Nobody needs to know we were the ones who asked.
The three began to wait inside as police arrived just outside of Oscorp, with S.H.I.E.L.D. reinforcements to back them up while Spider-Man had landed on the building's wall.
Fury: (Is heard through Spidey's comlink) Parker. Octavius is reported to be spotted in the building, and he's taken a civilian hostage.
Spider-Man: I'm not sure hostage is a word I'd use.
Fury: Well, whatever's he doin' is happening on the roof. I suggest you hop right to it.
Spider-Man: Don't need to say so twice!
Spidey started to climb as fast he could to the top while the doors to the roof were smashed open, busted up by Doctor Octopus as he carried Norman in the air with his Arms, taking him to the edge of the rooftop.
Doc Ock: It's time to pay for your sins, Norman. Time to face justice for what you've done.
Norman let out a shudder as he was lifted in the air, the same way May Parker was from earlier as Otto stood on the roof watching in dangle dangerously with his Arms. All the while, Gobby was seen just cackling, tormenting Osborn as his eyes peered over the Green Creature that he's hallucinating.
Green Goblin: (Stands next to a satellite tower) Ah, you know I can always take over and finish this silly complainer! After all, you know I'm right here!
Norman: (Breathes as he turned to face Octavius) What do you want, huh? You want me to beg?! Not gonna happen!
Doc Ock: (Chuckled) The world will know the truth. About Richard... About his project, and your role behind it... They'll know all about it before they mop you off the pavement.
The tendril wrapped around Norman squeezed tightly, making the Billionaire shout in pain from the torture.
Green Goblin: (Walks behind Octopus) Come on, you stubborn bastard! This isn't the time to play the proud rich man! This is the time to act upon your survival! (Leans his head next to Osborn) So let me do it. Let me take over, let me kill this sorry excuse of an Octopus and get this shit over with!
Doc Ock: (Grabs a phone and records it) Tell them what you did!
Norman: (Sees one of the Arms lifting the phone towards him) I... Never...!
He was then pushed further away from the roof, the tendril holding him at its mercy extending the length as Otto continued to watch unsympathetically.
Doc Ock: Everything you have is built on lies! LIES!
Without warning, the tendril let him go, causing Norman to fall to his death, only to be caught by the leg by a different tendril as this action caused him to inadvertently drop his wallet, much to the Goblin's apparent appeal.
Green Goblin: (Waves his hand at the wallet) Bye-bye, Credit Cards!
Norman sighed as he was lifted upside down, still facing Otto as the two continued their confrontation.
Doc Ock: You stole my ideas... You stole his ideas... Every idea ever made by the people you hired was stolen off of each and every one of them, including me!
He reached the cell, pulling Norman closer as he held the phone in his organic hand.
Doc Ock: Now... (Breathes) The truth.
Green Goblin: (Stands behind Octavius once more) Alright, seriously man! This is it! Last chance to Goblin Out, clock's ticking!
Norman breathed as he saw Otto and Goblin standing together... The arms holding him at his mercy... The Goblin offering a way out... Everything feels so damn tempting...
Spider-Man: OTTO!
Suddenly, the Web-Slinger arrived, interrupting the confrontation as he landed on top of the satellite tower.
Spider-Man: Otto, that's enough! Put him down on the roof, please!
Green Goblin: (Sees the Spider, making him laugh) HA! Saved by the Spider-ling! (Claps his hands together) How ironically Lucrative.
Doc Ock: (Turns to Spider-Man) This man isn't some innocent working in a homeless shelter, Spider-Man. Leave us!
Spider-Man: No, not when what you're doing is wrong!
Doc Ock: What I'm doing is wrong?! (Takes off his shades) Do you have any idea what this man has done?!
Spider-Man: (Drops himself off of the tower) I know about your wife... Rosalie. (Walks to him) I don't know much about her, other than that she's someone that you care about! Come on, Doc! Think of all the good you were going to do, what you could accomplish! Think of the people at Horizon Labs, think of your Wife!
With that statement being said, Otto suddenly began to freeze... His expression turning from one of cold-heartedness to something of... Emotional despair...
Otto: (Turns his head away) ...You don't... You don't understand.
Spider-Man: (Sighs) I understand that you come to visit her, to check on your wife. I understand that she must mean the world to you!
Otto: (Scoffed) No, that's just it... (Turns to Spider-Man, his eye giving out a tear) ...She meant the world to me... And she still did... Until...
Otto grimaced, grinding his teeth as Spider-Man stood there, confused by the sudden rage mixing into his sadness.
Spider-Man: Doc... What did you mean by "Meant"?
As they stood on the roof, the Squad waited for the receptionist to arrive, for which she did.
Nurse: Hey, I just got a result for Roslie Octavius.
Gwen: (Stands up) Good! Where can we go to see her?
Nurse: (Pauses) Oh... Dear... I'm, I'm so terribly sorry, but... I don't think that's possible.
Gloria: (Raises a brow) What do you mean? You said that you got a result, which means she's here!
Ned: Yeah! I mean, she is here... Right?
Nurse: (Nodded) She... Was here... Until recently.
Gwen: Until recently what?
As they stood there speaking with the nurse, a doctor began to walk past another patient's room, minding his business.
Otto was seen making a whistle as he walked in the halls of the hospital, hoping to see his wife, telling her all about his accomplishment of helping defeat Spot when the doctor he met a month prior was just seen walking out of the room.
Otto: Doctor Samson! Good to see you! How's my wife?
Samson: (Turns around) Oh... Doctor Octavius... I didn't realize-!
Otto: (Peeks behind him) May I go see her?
Samson: Uh, not... Yet.
Otto: (Raises a brow) What do you mean, "Not yet"? Since when was that a thing.
Samson: (Sighs) Otto... A few days after your last visit... Your Wife suffered from brain damage due to the decline of the nerve functions in her body.
Otto: ...(Blinked) ...Brain damage?
Samson: (Clasped his hands together) We... We tried calling you. We tried contacting you, we tried our best to let you know-!
Otto: Where is she? Where's my wife?
Samson: (Sighs heavily) Earlier today... She suffered a seizure, so we took her to surgery, to help her... But unfortunately.
Otto: Where is my Wife?!
Samson: (Looks at Otto) ...She didn't make it, Doctor Octavius. (Otto gasped) I'm sorry, I truly am. But we tried everything in our power-!
Otto: (Shook his head, dropping the flowers) Where is she? Where is my Wife, where is Rosie?!
Samson: Doctor, please! Calm down!
Otto: No, I want to speak to my wife! I want to speak to my goddamn WIFE!
Otto fell onto his knees, fit by emotional heartbreak as he knelt on the floor sobbing.
Otto: Rosie! I want to speak to Rosie! I want to be with my Rosie!
He continued to sit there emotionally distraught as the picture of the moon was seen on a touch screen tablet.
Present Day.
The moon shined on the roof of Oscorp as Spider-Man stood with Octavius, who still held Osborn at his mercy.
Otto: (Breathed) ...I haven't spoken to anyone about Rosie ever since it happened... For a while, I just wanted to simply fill the void, maintain some semblance of stability before I had to attend her funeral eventually... (Turns to Norman) But then... The explosion happened... And I remembered everything Richard Parker wanted to do... How he could have prevented my Wife from dying if this bastard, didn't cheat both of us that chance, robbing Rosie from living another day!
Spider-Man: Wait! What do you mean? What about Richard Parker, how does Norman Osborn tie into this?!
Otto: (Scoffed) Don't you see? Richard Parker, he had created a-a-a plan! He created a formula, something that could potentially cure every disease in the world, something that could have changed the world for the better! (Points at Norman) And this... This prick ruined everything by wanting to weaponize it!
Norman: Don't listen to him! That guy's delusional!
Otto: LIAR! (Turns to Norman) You wanted nothing more than to have all the money in the world, to be much better than Stark, than Pym, than any other person with wealth! All because of some stupid thing with the goddamn Spiders-!
At that moment, Otto paused once again, widening his eyes as he said the last word before freezing.
Otto: ...Spiders... (Raised himself up) Spider... Man.
In the next moment, Octavius turned around, staring at Spidey as everything began to feel cold, chills going up through Parker's spine.
Doc Ock: (Walks to Spidey) You... You're working for Norman, aren't you?! You, Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D, every single god damn ONE OF YOU!
Having issued no hints, Doc Ock had thrown Osborn right off of the roof, causing Spidey to shout a voice of disdain having seen Otto commit the wrong action.
Spider-Man: (Touched his chest) Karen!
Karen: On it!
Suddenly, the Spider-Drone from Spidey's chest flew into the air, spinning a web below Osborn, forming a net to catch the billionaire as he hung on the side of his own building, catching his breath as he panted from the relief.
Karen: Osborn is in the clear! You only have Octavius to deal with!
Spider-man: (Turns to face Doc Ock) Okay, Doc... Let's just slow down, okay? We can talk about this!
Doc Ock: Oh, I am done talking, Spider-Man. (Lingers towards the hero) I am done negotiating... I am done with the lies... And I am just about done with holding myself back!
With a yell, one of the Arms stretched forward, attacking Spidey as the tendrils stabbed the group with the intent to kill.
Spider-Man: (Flips back, avoiding the attacks) Otto! Stop this, please! (Gets knocked back by an Arm) ARRGH!
He fell down onto the ground, groaning. But then, quickly, he rolled around sideways to avoid getting stabbed by the chest as an Arm hurled itself right onto the spot where he was just lying in.
Spider-Man: (Turns to Ock) Come on, man! You worked your whole life to help others, don't throw your life away like this!
Doc Ock: My life was over the moment my Wife died. My Wife, my Rosie... She was my life. (Raises himself up high) And now my life is dead.
Ock began using the Arms to lift some air vents up in the air, only to throw them at the Wall-Crawler as he moved to avoid them. Spider-Man started to shoot his webs at the tendrils, attempting to tie them together only for the Arms to rip apart the silk webbing.
Then Spidey began to jump in the air, attempting to hit Ock only to be swatted in the air like he was a mere fly, slamming onto the ground groaning. Then the tendrils pinned him there, holding him by the chest as Spidey let out a scream of pain.
Karen: The Arms are too volatile, you can't beat him like this!
Spider-Man: (Groans) I don't suppose you have any other ideas?
Doc Ock: (Lingers towards Spidey) I should have known you were one of Osborn's machinations... The Spider gimmick... The Webbing, the whole agility of it all, I should have seen it from the start!
Karen: (Scans his chest) Octavius is still connected to the harness! If you generate enough gigawatts, you should be able to stun him long enough to incapacitate him!
Spider-Man: (Gets lifted by the ankle, being held upside down) Otto... I honestly don't know what you're talking about!
Doc Ock: Of course you don't. You're as much a pawn to Norman's schemes as everyone else is! (Leans towards the Spider) You're so foolish enough to believe that your power comes from Norman... When really, it comes from Richard Parker himself.
Spider-Man let out a soft quiet gasp, which was interpreted as a mere pant as his lenses widened at the truth that Otto had given out.
Doc Ock: (Stands up) Say goodbye, Spider-Man... Your sentence is death!
As a tendril moved to stab Spidey by the chest, the Web-Head quickly moved to spin an Electric Web, electrifying Octavius, and the arms as he let out a scream of pain, affecting his spine.
Which in that case, caused the Arms to let go of Spider-Man, making the Wall-Crawler roll away so he could grab a Tendril and swing him around and around in circles.
Spider-Man: Just so you know... I'm really sorry about this!
Spidey growled as he flung Octavius right onto the satellite tower, knocking Ock out as he leaned against the tower, feeling the electricity run through his back before falling unconscious.
At that point, Peter moved to take off his mask as he let out a breath of fresh air, allowing him to finally process everything he had learned about, and everything that just happened. As he stood there, he got a call from his comlink, prompting him to answer while he stared at an unconscious Otto.
Peter: Yeah?
Gwen: Pete, it's me! Did you find Otto?
Peter: (Closed his eyes, sighing) Yeah... (Turns to Otto) Yeah... I did...
Gwen: (Sighs) Thank god! Is it over yet?
Peter: (Turns around, facing the city) Honestly... I'm not even sure yet...
Later, Otto was seen placed in handcuffs as he was escorted into a police van, Spider-Man watched while Drew and Coulson walked over to the hero.
Coulson: (Pats Spidey on the back) You did well out there. Osborn's intact, and Octavius is now in custody.
Spider-Man: (Nodded) I guess so...
Jessica: (Turns to Spidey) We understand how hard it was for you... We know that you and he were close.
Spider-Man: Yeah... We were.
Soon, he overheard the cops saying that they're ready for transfer, prompting Spider-Man to move over to Octavius, intent to speak with him.
Spider-Man: (Folded his arms) Look... I know you don't feel like it right now, but you need help. And as much as I hate saying this, but I'm not able to help you in this condition. So I want you to understand that when you're sent into the Raft, you'll be placed into a medical facility there, where you'll be treated by the right people, and you'll be able to be treated for some physical rehab.
Otto: Hmm... (Looks at the wall of the truck) All this time... And you still treat me with compassion.
Spider-Man: Well... What can I say? It's called being a Human Being. (Folded his arms) I mean, I know we don't always get along right now... But I do give people the chance to redeem themselves... So, maybe you'll have a chance to make up for everything that you did.
Otto: ...It's a mistake to put me there, you know.
Spider-Man: (Sighs) I understand that the Raft isn't the best place you'd want to be in-!
Otto: Oh, I don't care about prison. I'm saying that it's a mistake putting me in the Raft. (Turns to Spider-Man) See... I fought the battle, and you... Have given me an epiphany, whether you'd care to realize it or not.
Spider-Man: Yeah? And what kind of epiphany is that exactly?
Otto: (Chuckled) Well... You're a formidable opponent and a very... Very exhausting Airachnid... But at the same time... You're still just one person underneath that Mask of yours... And from what I've learned, you have made a lot of people carry a heavy grievance towards you. And soon, you'll probably continue to extend that grievance. Soon, you'll end up growing a bad weed so disgusting that it'll end up killing all the other plants in your front yard. And then, by that point when you realize the damage you caused, more weeds will have already started to grow and by then it'll be too little, too late. (Straightens himself) So... I want you to know that the next time we shall meet each other eventually... When we meet to fight once again... I will not be alone.
Yuri: (Walks to the van) Alright, that's enough of that. (Bangs on the vehicle) Get him out of here!
The back doors closed, and the truck began to drive away into the dust as Yuri and Spider-Man stood together to watch.
Yuri: (Sighs) Jesus... That guy was seriously giving off some kind of Sinister vibes or whatever. (Turns to Spider-Man) Hey. You alright?
Spider-Man: (Turns to Yuri) Hmm? Oh, uh... Yeah... I just... Had a long day.
Yuri: Yeah, I think we all did. (Folded her arms) So, maybe it's about time we caught a break.
Spider-Man: I wish I could say that.
Yuri: (Raises a brow) What do you mean?
Spider-Man: (Widened his eyes) Oh... It's nothing, never mind. (Pats her shoulder) I'm... Gonna bounce, before Jameson, shows up with an angry rant. Tell Cap I said hi!
He attempted to leave when Norman Osborn came to greet the Wall-Crawler.
Norman: Spider-Man! (Gets his attention) Now, I don't what Jameson was talking about on the news, but I gotta tell ya! He was sure damn wrong about you!
Spider-Man: (Turns to Norman) ...What was Doctor Octavius talking about on the roof?
Norman: (Scoffed) What? That lunatic? I honestly don't know! In fact, I think he probably should have been sent into a mental institution rather than some supermax prison. But hey, it's not up to me to decide.
Spider-Man: (Folded his arms) He mentioned Richard Parker... The man who went missing 11 years ago... He says that you ruined his research.
Norman: (Smirked) Oh, come on, Spidey... Do you actually believe what he was saying?
Spider-Man: He didn't seem like he was joking when he mentioned his wife passing away.
Norman: Yeah, well... A lot of people tend to say a lot of things, both true and fabricated! (Shakes his head) I mean, sometimes one person can just lie so much that if it were possible... It would be extremely hard to tell which is the truth, and which is the lie. (Raises his hands up) I mean, that would blurry the lines, now would it?
Spider-Man: (Nodded, staring) Yeah... I bet it would. (Turns to leave) See you later, Norman.
With enough to be said, Spider-Man began to leave the scene, with Norman standing there very smug as Goblin stood next to him watching.
Green Goblin: So... (Points at the hero) He's dead, right?
Later, Peter arrived at the hospital as he moved on to find his friends waiting in the lobby.
Harry: (Turns to Peter) Look who finally showed up!
Gwen: (Turns to her crush) Peter.
Peter: (Sees Gwen) Hey.
The two hugged it out upon their approach as everybody started to gather around him.
Randy: Hey, we heard about you and your Aunt. Is everything okay?
Peter: (Pulls off from the hug) Um, yeah! We're just... Trying to center ourselves right now. (Turns to Harry) Speaking of, I heard about what happened to your Dad! Is he okay?
Harry: (Nodded) Yeah, I texted him. He says he's okay, so that's great!
Peter: (Smiled) That's really awesome, man.
Harry: Yeah. (Folded his arms) Yeah, that Spider-Man is a pretty great addition to this town. I mean, if anyone needed saving, I know who to trust to do just that.
MJ: (Pressed her hands into her pockets) So, what happens now?
Ned: I think we just try our best to be there for Eddie. That dude had it the worst today!
Everybody began to discuss Brock while Peter continued to sit down, and just rest for a moment as Gwen sat next to him, resting her arm around his shoulder.
Gwen: (Leans her head against his shoulder) It's so terrible what happened to Otto. I feel bad for him.
Peter: (Nodded) Yeah, me too.
Gwen: (Pressed her hand on his chest) ...Is everything alright? You sound... More quiet than usual.
Peter: (Leaned against his chair, sighing) ...I found out some things about my Dad today.
Gwen: (Blinked, pulling herself off of him) Your... Your Dad?
Peter: (Bit his lip) ...Otto claimed that Norman Osborn wanted to weaponize my Dad's research to make a profit... And that it had something to do, with spiders.
Gwen: (Raises a brow) What are you saying?
Peter: (Folded his arms) I'm saying... That I used to think that when I learned that my Dad was a Spy, I closed up that gaping hole in the back of mind... Then, all of a sudden, I started to think that my Dad worked at Oscorp... Which had the same Genetically Altered Spider that bit me, and turned me into Spider-Man. (Looks at the news of Octavius's attack on Oscorp) I'm saying that maybe... Maybe after what I had just learned today... Maybe I'm not fully ready to close that chapter just yet.
Gwen: (Sits up a little) Wait... You don't think Norman Osborn... Harry's Dad, had something to do with your Dad, do you?
Peter: (Turns to Gwen) Gwen... My powers came from a Genetically Altered Spider at Oscorp. My Dad worked at Oscorp, and Otto mentioned that he worked on Spiders, right before he and my Mom abandoned me, it can't be too much of a coincidence.
Gwen: (Looks at Harry) Yeah, but... What about Harry? I mean, if Norman is behind your Dad's disappearance, then what are you going to do-!
Peter: (Shook his head) I'm going to figure it out eventually. (Sighs) For now, I just... Wanna be here for Eddie when he starts to get out of the hospital, for better or worse.
Gloria: (Folded her arms) Hey, it's been a while since we've waited here, hasn't it?
Ned: (Nodded) Yeah... (Turns to a Nurse) Uh, hi!
Nurse: (Turns around, facing Ned) Hi.
Ned: Excuse me, can you help me... Mrs...?
Nurse: (Smirked) Claire, Temple... Just call me Claire.
Ned: (Nodded) Right, Claire. Can you help us out? We're waiting for a friend of ours who got attacked at F.E.A.S.T. today. We were wondering how long it'd take before he's been released.
Claire: (Raises a brow) Oh... The kid with the crutches? He already left.
Gloria: (Turns around) Wait... Did I hear that right? He left?!
Claire: (Nods) Yeah. He got released just about 10 minutes ago. (Folded her arms) I'm sorry, you kids were waiting for him all this time?
Peter: (Turns to Claire) Um... Yeah. Where did he go?
Eddie Brock sighed as he sat in the back of a limo, holding onto his crutches when the car stopped. The door was opened for him, making him start to exit the vehicle as he used his crutches to walk, looking upward at the Oscorp building while Norman started to walk out of the building to greet him.
Norman: (Walks to Brock) Eddie Brock, right? (Gets his attention) Hi. Norman Osborn, at your service.
Norman offered a handshake, to which Eddie just neglected to share as he just stared at the billionaire.
Eddie: What do you want?
Norman: Hmm... Straight to the point, I like that. (Pressed his hands into his pockets) Well, Mr. Brock. All I want to do is help you.
Eddie: (Raises a brow) Help me walk again or help me pay the bills?
Norman: A little bit of both, so to speak. See, I heard about what that madman with the Tendrils did to you, much to my utter dismay that they have neglected to speak more so about you than Spider-Man and Doc Ock. And I felt so bad that I just wanted to help a guy out.
Eddie: Yeah? And how exactly do you plan on helping me exactly?
Norman: Well, to heal your spine of course! To help you retain a life where you can walk with your own legs without the use of crutches, and I can make that happen.
Eddie: Yeah, but you didn't say how you would do that.
Norman: Hey, I'm getting there, don't worry! (Clapped his hands together) Now, there is a special procedure just for you. See, it's something that's highly... Experimental, so to speak. And you could say that I am officially conducting Human Trials, to see if the procedure works, and I can't do that without your proper consent. (Folded his hands) So! How about it? Would you like to be granted the wish to walk again? Get an early birthday present, eh?
Eddie sighed, looking at the crutches that he's holding onto... Reminiscing the life he had before having to use such a thing... Knowing what it's like to just walk as everybody else does, to feel independent about moving without aid. And that was a temptation he was more than willing to dare attempt at bargaining with the Devil.
Eddie: ...What do you want me to do?
Alright, so I think we're getting awfully close to wrapping up the Season, which I am happy to do so! But first, I wanted to get everybody's opinions before I start moving on with the remaining chapters.
So, I understand that Script Formatting isn't exactly everybody's favorite thing to read on... And after my experience with What If?, I started to see what some others were talking about.
Of course, I was planning on waiting until I finished up TFA Season 5 and Spider-Man to move onto a better format, because I didn't want to cause any sort of confusion, to rack anybody's brains when they find the next chapter not written like a script as it was for the rest of the season. And given that everybody's support means a lot to me, I feel like maybe I shouldn't write the finale in a script format, and just move onto a better way to read.
So, not only would I like to hear your thoughts on this episode, but I'd like to hear whether or not I should ditch the Script formatting in a remaining couple of Episodes. Cuz, I've been writing some drafts that most like to read, and I feel comfortable writing them as much as I am comfortable writing it in the finale.
Oh, and speaking of which, I noticed on one of the What If? Reviews that someone wanted to do some kind of reaction fic to What If?, and I couldn't respond to that person because he/she was a guest reviewer at the time, and I'm not allowed to speak with guest reviewers on Fanfiction.
So, if you're that same person that also likes to read Spider-Man, and you're just happening to read what I have to say, then feel free to do a reaction fic on Quotev. I highly encourage people to do ask if I should do a request, add my fics on TVTropes, or especially make a reaction fic! Trust me, you, and everybody reading this are more than welcome to do so, you have my permission as long as you ask.
Anyhow, thanks for reading, and I'll see you all next time!
PEACE!
