Chapter 17: Yelling, Screaming, and Accusing

Annabeth's P.O.V

Ever since they'd returned from the Underworld, an uneasy silence has settled among the demigods. They didn't talk as much anymore. They were more cautious around each other, and avoided each other as much as possible. Even when they ate in the dining hall, the only sound you would hear is the clinging of forks.

One of them was a betrayer. They had come all this way, all to figure out that they were searching for someone who had stolen the Holy Waffle, when the real thief could be standing less than a hundred feet away from her.

The thing is, Annabeth wasn't blind. She'd learnt to solve clues, and in this case, if she was right..the thief wasn't hiding it well enough. You'd have to be smart to trick Annabeth, and the truth is, no one on this ship was clever enough to fool her.

She had her doubts, but that was what everything added up to.

That is, if Hades was telling the truth. Then again, why would Hades lie? He wanted Zeus's stupid waffle fit to end as well, (who didn't) and that was even more reason why Hades would be telling truth.

Growing up with people like Percy and fighting over a hundred monsters in the time period of a year, she'd grown to recognize lies. For most people, she could look at them and tell if they were lying or not. Hades, on the other hand, was a god. But she could just feel it-Hades was telling the truth. The Waffle Thief was really on their ship. Which meant the Holy Waffle-the thing they were chasing after this whole time-was right on this ship, alongside them on the whole quest.

And even through her doubts, everything only added up to one suspect. And she was going to interrogate them. That is..after she had a talk with Percy.

Annabeth's P.O.V

Percy opened the door hesitantly.

He sighed. "Oh, Annabeth. It's just you..come in."

"Hey," she said, walking in and settling herself on his bed. "Do you have some time?"

Percy nodded. "Yeah, what did you need to tell me?"

Annabeth avoided eye contact as she began speaking. "I think I know who the thief is."

Percy gasped. "Wait, what?!"

She hesitated. "Its.."

Percy gave her a stern look. "Tell me!"

"I.." she panicked. Was it such a good idea to tell him? At the end, she blurted it out without thinking. "Jason."

Immediately, she regretted her words as Percy's confused face was replaced by shock and anger. "WHAT?"

He had jumped off his bed, standing up, staring at her like she was an alien.

"Yeah.." she said quietly. "Do you-"

"Are you kidding?" said Percy, his voice noticeably louder. "You're seriously accusing JASON?"

"Well, yeah, let me finish-"

"No! How could you accuse Jason? He's probably the most least likely to do it!" he said, kind of mad now.

"That's not true! Why is his suitcase so big, then-"

"You are so nosy!" he yelled. "It's none of your business what Jason has in his suitcase-"

"For all we know, the Holy Waffle could be in there," she interrupted him, feeling her temper rising.

Percy clenched his fists. "I can't believe you would say something like that!"

"Percy, be reasonable!" she yelled.

"Stop accusing Jason, then! You don't even have any good proof!" he yelled, even louder.

"Oh yeah?" she could almost feel the heat growing in her face. "Maybe I shouldn't have told YOU, then! All you do is believe the believable!"

Percy flung a pillow at her, which she dodged with no effort. "That is NOT true! I'm only trying to be a good friend!"

"Well if he is the reason we came all the way here, then would you consider him a friend?" she retorted, feeling the steam rising from her head.

"I'm telling you it's not him!" Percy shouted, red in the face.

"WELL, DO YOU HAVE ANY BETTER SUSPECTS?" she screamed, annoyed at how Percy was acting. Seriously, he was being unreasonable.

"ACTUALLY, I DO!" he yelled hotly.

"OH, I SO BELIEVE THAT!" she scoffed sarcastically.

"MAYBE YOU'RE JUST TRYING TO PUT THE BLAME ON JASON BECAUSE YOU WANT TO COVER YOURSELF! MAYBE IT'S YOU!" he yelled at the top of his lungs.

Annabeth gasped in outrage. That. Did. It. He was accusing her? That was crossing the line. "HOW COULD YOU SAY SOMETHING LIKE THAT?" This time, she flung a pillow at him.

"JUST BECAUSE YOU THINK YOU'RE SMARTER THAN EVERYONE IT DOESN'T MEAN YOU CAN HIDE IT FROM ME!" Percy screamed, a fire burning in his eyes.

"I DO NOT THINK I AM SMARTER THAN EVERYONE!"

"WELL, WHY DO YOU THINK YOU CAN JUST GO AROUND ACCUSING WHOEVER YOU FEEL LIKE?"

"THAT IS NOT WHAT I'M DOING!"

"UNLIKE YOU, I WILL ALWAYS BE LOYAL TO JASON! BRODOM IS A SERIOUS THING, AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND!"

"UGH, PERCY, ARE YOU SERIOUSLY GOING ON ABOUT YOUR STUPID BRODOM RIGHT NOW?"

"IT'S A SERIOUS THING!"

"IT'S CHILDISH AND STUPID, LIKE YOU!"

"OH, SO I'M THE STUPID ONE HERE!"

"YES, YOU BIG PILE OF SEAWEED!"

"I MAY BE A SEAWEED BRAIN BUT AT LEAST I RESPECT MY FRIENDS!"

"YOU ARE IMPOSSIBLE!"

"LOVE YOU TOO!"

Annabeth could feel angry tears starting to form in her eyes. What was he saying? Did he forget who he was talking to? This was just a small subject, why were they even fighting?

She took a few deep, calming breaths.

"Look, Percy! Let's just stop yelling-" she started calmly.

"YOU'RE THE ONE WHO CAME IN AND STARTED ACCUSING JASON OF SOMETHING HE WOULD NEVER DO!" Apparently, Percy wasn't done yet.

Annabeth could feel her anger boiling inside of her. Why was he acting like this? "Percy, come on, please be realistic, I know Jason is your friend-"

"HE'S MORE THAN JUST A FRIEND! HE'S MY BRO!"

If there wasn't so much tension between them, and if the situation wasn't like this, Annabeth would have laughed her head off. She snorted. "All you talk about is your stupid bro stuff. Both of you. None of you actually CARE about the quest, do you?"

Percy's eyes narrowed. "You take that back! I've done all I can on this quest-"

"Oh really? Well I think you both have been a useless waste of time!" she sneered, not really meaning it but saying it out of anger. More anger bubbled inside of her, even at the abashed expression on Percy's face. She had the urge to smirk.

He looked positively abashed. "I HATE YOU!"

"I HATE YOU TOO!" she roared at her loudest.

"I AM BREAKING UP WITH YOU!"

"GLADLY!"

"SO WHY THE HELL ARE YOU HERE AGAIN?"

"WELL, I CAME HERE BECAUSE I THOUGHT YOU HAD COMMON SENSE! CLEARLY I WAS MISTAKEN!"

"YOU KNOW WHAT? I WILL NEVER TALK TO YOU AGAIN!"

"GOOD!"

"YEAH, GOOD!"

"YOU'RE BEING SUCH A-"

"JUST GO! I HAVE ENOUGH TO DEAL WITH AT THE MOMENT!"

"GO DEAL WITH IT THEN!" she roared in outrage, angry tears burning in her eyes. She wiped them away, and stormed out, slamming the door behind her as hard as she could, leaving Percy standing there, breathing heavily, red in the face.

Her original plan had been to go tell Piper next..but after seeing how Percy had handled it, she wasn't exactly sure it was a good idea. Piper would probably act the same way, after all she was his girlfriend.

Which meant there was only one person left she had to talk to.

Jason's P.O.V

Jason smiled as he walked towards his closet. He cautiously looked towards the doorway, making sure no one was there. He'd locked it..but you always have to be careful.

Especially when the Holy Waffle was sitting inside your closet.

Your screaming right now is being heard, and if you're not screaming..then read it again.

The Holy Waffle was inside Jason's closet.

Yup, you read it right. It was him all along. He had stolen the Holy Waffle. This quest was because of him.

Jason was the Waffle Thief.

He opened his suitcase and was nearly blinded by it's glow. This happened every single time, but he still wasn't used to it.

He struggled to open his eyes as the sight of the Holy Waffle greeted him. He smiled at the sight. Mmm, his mouth watered just looking at it.

Of course, it wasn't a waffle anymore. More like a half-eaten waffle. He was slowly devouring it, chewing it with relish day by day.

God food was simply too heavy. It was too strong to eat in one say, so Jason had to chip off a bit and eat it slowly each day.

And as he excitedly stared down at the waffle, he giddily remembered-it was waffle time!

He happily dug in, almost not hearing the first knock on his door. When the person knocked for a second time, he jumped and let out a muffled scream.

He quickly stuffed the waffle back in his suitcase ans slammed the closet shut, sending the vase next to him crashing onto the floor.

He winced as it broke into pieces, the marble cracking. He quickly brushed it to a corner of his room and yelled, "COMING!"

He opened his door. "Hey, come in-AAA!"

He stumbled back at the sight of Annabeth. The gray storm in her eyes was wilder, fiercer, and scarier than ever, and her face was stained with some dry tears, so red that he could literally feel the steam rising from her cheeks.

"Annabeth, what's wrong-"

She ignored him, saying in the most deadly but silent voice ever, shaking slightly, "We need to talk."

Feel free to yell at me, I deserve it lol! :D

I am a Percabeth shipper too...I would NEVER break them up forever, so don't worry. I'm evil, but im not that evil. Ok fine I'm super evil. The point is, everything will be fine between them haha! :)
Also, for all you who suspected Jason..You were right! Can I just ask one thing? Why did you suspect him? I included clues here and there, but was it a bit obvious? Please tell me! :)

Thanks for reading, please review!
