Nine seasons of CTM and we haven't a cat. Here my contribution.
Hello kitty
Part 1
It was early in the morning and Shelagh was on her way to Nonnatus. It was cold and she adjusted her cape more, thinking if her children went to school warm enough. No, she thought. Tim did not want to wear his scarf. He would be cold and that made her uneasy.
Suddenly, from a pile of abandoned rubble, a little scream came out. She stopped and listened again. The third time, she heard it perfect. It was a meow, small and sad. She walked towards the mound and, removing some stones, saw a lot of screaming hairs: a small kitten shivered with cold.
She took it and immediately, the animal snuggled against her body. She saw its colors, they were three, and when she looked at its little face, she knew it was a girl. She stroked it, feeling its soft little heat.
She thought of the innumerable occupations she had as a nurse, wife, mother, and caretaker of Angela's rabbit. A cat would be one more load, but she could not leave it there. She also did not know if anyone else could have it.
Then, she made accounts. With the addition of Angela's rabbit, the Turners' female team had been at a disadvantage that neither May's arrival had changed. With a new girl, this time in the shape of a cat, the numbers would be equal again.
She smiled, looking at the purring little ball covered by her cape, and walked back home to give it milk and a place to sleep.
The kitten barely mewed and settled into her arms, ready to be Shelagh's kitten.
Part 2
Shelagh looked at Patrick. He looked adorable with the cat in his arms.
But it was not her cat. It was another. And he insisted on having it at home.
"You do it just to win to the girls again."
"It's not like that, I do it because I found it near the river and it would fall and drown. Your husband is a hero."
She decided to ignore his cheeky wink.
"We can't have another animal, besides, it's a male! In a few months we'll be full of kittens and this will be a disaster!"
But Patrick had already installed the cat, his cat, in the house.
And that same night, Shelagh found that the new member of the family behaved very well with the rest. Maybe…
While she thought about it, the new cat jumped into her lap and settled down. Definitely, he would stay.
