It's been a year since the well closed up.
Kagome stares at the latte she ordered, the barista gave it a dog design. It makes her think of InuYasha. Her heart pangs, her chest feels tight – too tight, as though her lungs have no more room left to expand.
She takes a sip of her drink, disfiguring the design. The wave of yoki washes over her before the sound of the door chiming does. Her mouth twitches up as red clouds her view. Kurama's vibrant hair reminds her of his fire rat attire. He takes a seat and gives her a warm smile.
He doesn't say anything about the dog design in his cup. He lifts up his cup, disrupting the design. He places the cup back down and reaches for his bag. Kurama pulls out his laptop, some notebooks, and two pens. He hands her a pen and notebook.
She doesn't say anything about the fox engraving on both items.
They fall into a rhythm. He pretends to not notice the faraway gazes, she ignores how gentle his touches are. It's only when he lays her down that she sees him. He coaxes numerous orgasms out of her. Her breathless moans feed his soul. She's never shared this side of her with him.
He doesn't share the Yoko side of himself with her. Kurama wants to – he wants to share a lot with her.
But…
She's not ready, he thinks, she's still mourning.
It's been two years since the well sent her back home, it's been five hundred years for InuYasha. Kurama loves her, deeply, more than he's ever loved well, anyone. He knows that she has suspicions, she's a smart girl after all. He's sure that it's crossed her mind. Kurama refuses to be the one that shatters her heart. He wants to be the one to mend and heal the broken pieces.
He wants her. So, he keeps quiet and doesn't answer her wordless inquiries.
If InuYasha wanted her as much as Kurama wants her – he would have waited. It's been five hundred years for InuYasha, two years for Kagome. Kurama knows that she knows, InuYasha should have shown up a long time ago.
The well opens up after three years.
Her limbs are moving out of the bed before her brain has a chance to catch up. Unease runs thick in her veins, her blue eyes mist over with tears as she peers down into the darkness. She has to know, she thinks, as she jumps down. The familiar blue light surrounds her.
The well is letting her go back.
She stumbles towards the forest, she's always been able to sense him. Her feet protest at the feel of grass, dirt, and rocks sticking to the bottom of her soles. She forgot shoes and a change of attire in her haste. Her heart knows before she sees him, each step forward breaks off a piece of the love she had been holding on to.
He's built a small home – he never did like staying in the village. He dotes on the dark-haired woman. His wife, she thinks. The woman is swollen with child.
Kagome turns away. She marvels at her dry cheeks; she pats them in wonder. Huh, she thinks, she must have moved on too.
Kurama ignores the scent of the past that clings to her skin. His breath hitches when she plants soft kisses along his jawline. She's never kissed or touched him first until now.
He wraps his arms around her.
"I'm sorry," she whispers against his mouth, her body trembles. He tightens his hold.
"It's okay," he responds. He doesn't need her apologies, he thinks, he just needs her.
A/N: Missed you guys! I still can't believe that we are getting an InuYasha sequel next month.
