"Midori tanabiku namimori no!"
Naruto could only stare at Hibari as he sang the song to the yellow bird on his shoulder. Should she laugh? Or should she just gawk at Hibari? It was not that she was surprised by the fact he could sing. In fact she actually enjoyed listening to him sing. Despite his cold demeanor in public, his singing voice could really make a person feel warm.
But she really wished he did not sing the school song. Naruto understood he loved their school. From the moment she met the older teen, she had seen the older boy destroyed anyone that harmed the school or its reputation. It was understandable for him to love the school. But this was just too much even for her.
"Are you really teaching the bird how to sing?"
I'm really bored. That was what she understood from the shrug of his shoulders and the blonde sighed. She was bored too. There was nothing to do in this really small space. Walking around was impossible. If she even walked around then she might trip over Hibari's legs and there was no way that she was going to stare at that again.
Her blue eyes darted to his pants before looking back at the bird. Right, she should not focus on what happened earlier between them. Even if she did feel comfortable sitting on his legs, it was definitely not appropriate. Even if she enjoyed his touch, she needed to focus on how to get Hibari and her out of here. She knew she could knock him out but Hibari was going to get pissed if she did it.
It would be pure logic for her to knock him out but Naruto would rather not deal with an irritated Hibari.
"Midori tanabiku namimori no!" The bird finally repeated. The chirps didn't irritate her but the song was a constant reminder of what happened to the damn school. She inhaled and exhaled, trying to calm down her raging emotions. The bird flew to her shoulders and the blonde stroke the bird's feathers before looking at Hibari.
"Couldn't you teach the bird something more modern?"
"The school anthem is a good song," Hibari replied. Naruto curled her lips into a smile. It almost sounded defensive in her ears but then again she might be imagining things. But she doubt it. It was really hard for a person to differentiate the older boy's emotions and moods, but she would like to think that they spent too much time together that she would understand him.
Beside she knew he really didn't listen to any songs. The ringtone of his phone was the damn school anthem for goodness sake. If that did not scream someone who didn't listen to the radio, then she didn't know what the sign was. She relaxed her shoulders and looked up at the ceiling before glancing back at Hibari.
"Dai naku shou naku nami ga ii!" Hibari sang. The bird on her shoulder flapped and returned back to his place beside Hibari. The blue-eyed girl closed her eyes and exhaled. It was not that bad when she thought about it. Being stuck here was nice because she could hear Hibari's singing. When the boy sang, it just dripped with honey. Really sweet on her ears that made her want to sigh.
Not in the annoyed sigh that Tsuna made her feel whenever he acted like an idiot. But the kind of sigh that she would make whenever they were on the roof and he slept on her lap. She wanted to go back to those days. The simple days when she worried about fighting him, making his meals and just surviving each day.
Shaking her head, Naruto looked up at the ceiling and channeled her chakra into her ears. Everything sounded sharper and more intense. The song Hibari sang now sounded even sweeter against her ears and made her lips twitched. She could hear the footsteps from upstairs and even the sound of birds chirping against her ears. But what really stood out to her was the sound of a glass shattering in the distance.
"Yamamoto!" Three voices screeched and the blonde jerked her head up. It sounded like Tsuna, Gokudera and Haku. Were they here? Well she expected this from Haku but definitely not Tsuna. Reborn probably dragged him here. The thought made her snort and the blonde locked eyes on the black-haired teen, who was still teaching the bird how to sing their school anthem.
The sunlight shone on Hibari's face, highlighting the dried blood and bruises that decorated his face. She should have cleaned it off of him when she bandaged him earlier. But it would have made her closer to him. She would have been able to see every detail of his face again and that made her stomach turn.
Nope, she needed to focus on something else.
"Sawada and his gang are here alongside Haku," Naruto said, keeping her tone calm. The singing stopped and Hibari twisted his head around to look at her. Grey eyes did not gleam with interest or hope. If anything, irritation flooded his eyes and a huge scowl played on his lips. Perhaps it was because it was Haku who was coming to help them. Hibari would never make that expression if it was Sawada or his friends.
But the moment Haku was mentioned, Hibari had a huge problem with him.
The older teen shook his head and stared at her. How do you know? That was the question shining through his eyes and the blond-haired girl poked her tongue against her cheek. Should she be honest with him? There was no reason for her to lie to him. He was her closest ally in this part of the world. He was also someone that she felt comfortable with letting down her guard.
"I enhanced my hearing to listen to the outside world and I heard Sawada, Gokudera and Haku screamed out Yamamoto's name," she finally explained. She waited for him to accuse her of doing something impossible but he only nodded his head. That was the nice thing about the older boy. He did not go around accusing her of making things up.
He also never tried to change her, always accepting her for who she was. Although I am really starting to think that he does have a biting kink. Even though it had been over an hour since he nibbled her ear, she could still recall the coil in her stomach when he did it. The intense desire in his eyes alongside the sharp pain in her ear.
She shook her head as her eyes wandered to his lips. If he could cause a sensation like that with her ear then what could he do to her neck? Would it feel just as nice? Or would it be painful? Wait. Why the hell was she thinking about that? She didn't know. But she did know this was not the time for her to focus on something like this. So she looked him in the eye and saw the question shining through his eyes.
How do you enhance your hearing? That was what she understood from staring at his eyes. Naruto rubbed the back of her neck and looked to the side. Should she tell him about chakra? It was not like it was a big secret in her part of the world. Everyone knew about chakra in her part of the world. So it would not be harmful for her to tell him.
"I can do it with chakra," Naruto finally replied. The words hung in the air as she waited for his reaction. The only hint of his feelings were the slight confusion shining through his eyes. She could guess what kind of chakra he was thinking of because of the disbelief in his eyes. If only the people of the Academy could see me now! I actually read a book. The thought made her snort.
The chakra that Hibari was currently thinking was the one that Hinduism referred for the seven centers of spiritual powers. Definitely not the one that she was talking about. I probably wouldn't know what he was thinking if I didn't develop a habit of reading a book. The thought sobered her up and the blonde exhaled.
"The chakra you are thinking about is not the one I'm talking about," she informed him. Hibari hummed and raised only a single eyebrow at her, almost like he was ordering her to explain herself. He was ordering her to explain herself and the blonde poked him in the ribs. He hissed and she smirked. "Well I would have bitten you as a punishment but I think you would have enjoyed it."
"Biting is your punishment," Hibari said to her. He did not smile or smirk but Naruto could see his eyes flickering to her neck. His eyes darkened as if he really was considering the idea of biting her neck. Her heart raced against her chest and her breaths came out in short, rapid successions as his eyes continued to stare at her.
She didn't know why but the idea of him biting her neck was a curiosity for her.
"Chakra is a form of life energy that people from my part of the world can create," Naruto explained, clearing her throat. Time for her to focus and not to get distracted by how his words were now starting to become sinful in her eyes. Hibari nodded. "In my part of the world, you can control and manipulate this energy to do the impossible. If you run out of chakra then you are dead."
Hibari nodded his head and Naruto stared up at the ceiling. Chakra is used to make illusions but that Pineapple isn't using chakra to make those illusions. The knowledge made her grimaced. Was there another form of energy that they didn't know about? Or had she skipped class when they talked about it? She should ask Jiraiya when she get back.
He probably had some idea of what could cause someone to make an illusion without chakra.
"So that is how you and the Peacock have been using those techniques," Hibari commented. Naruto jerked her head at him and then nodded her head. She should explain how Haku could do his medical ninjutsu but she did not fully understand it herself. She just knew that medical ninjutsu just needed someone with very good chakra control.
The only reason she knew that was because she dragged Hinata to spy on Neji and his team. That girl in his team had not been at all pleased to realize she had no talent in medical ninjutsu. She wanted to be like the Slug Sannin. Even now when Naruto recalled it, it made her snort. That would be an imitation if you asked her.
If she had been that girl, she should have aimed to be a stronger kunoichi than Tsunade and proved that a kunoichi did not need to know genjutsu or medical ninjutsu to be the best. Naruto clenched her jaws together. She was not bitter about the fact she was not a kunoichi. There was no need for her to be irritated at the fact that someone like Sakura or any of those fangirls passed.
She was happier this way but…
"Even though I can use chakra and I have unnatural human strength, I'm not the strongest person in my village," Naruto said. Hibari swirled his head at her and the blonde cradled her legs close to her chest. Deadlast. That was how everyone would describe her if they knew her. She forgot about the nickname until that Pineapple Bastard hurt her.
Hibari continued to gaze at her and Naruto realized that his eyes were not filled with disbelief or irritation. There was only curiosity. Why are you even telling me this? She could think of a million reasons but Naruto guessed there was only one reason. He never judged her. Sure at the very beginning, he believed he was better than her but she beat him in a fight.
After that whenever their paths crossed, he would fight her but not once after that did he still think he was better than her. It was better than those assholes in the Academy. Those civilians would still have that high, mighty air around them even though she pummeled them to the ground. Sasuke had a right to be haughty because whether she liked it or not…he was better than her.
Hinata-chan saw her strength and was always cheering her on but that was it.
"You never judged me after our second spar," Naruto finally answered with her eyes fixated on him. "Do you know how rare that is? Even though I was able to beat up all of the girls in my school and most of the boys too…they all thought they were better than me. Do you know why? Because my grades were fucking terrible."
Hibari stared at her for a good couple of seconds. His grey eyes showed no emotions while the bird on his shoulder flapped away from them. She waited for him to say something. Was she testing him? Maybe. She was kind of pouring her frustrations out to him even though Naruto knew he didn't do emotions. Instead, the teen surprised her.
He just sighed.
"Herbivores are stupid," Hibari replied. Those three words probably did not mean much but Naruto could read into the deeper meaning in those three words. They are bunch of idiots to think they are better than you if they used that as an indicator. She curled her lips into a small smile and the black-haired teen laid his head on top of her lap.
"Herbivores are stupid, aren't they?"
"There is no way you can defeat Mukuro-san! All of you are going to die even before you have the chance to see his face!"
Tsuna winced and grimaced as he tried to hold Gokudera back from going back down the hole. His silver-haired friend was really stronger than he thought because his arms was failing to hold him back. But there was no time for them to bring Gokudera back and he had no desire to kill the teen. It was weak of him but killing someone made him uncomfortable.
He did not know how Naruto could be so comfortable if that red-haired girl was of any indication. But then again he still felt like an ordinary person. No matter how many times he read the book Reborn gave him, he could not find it in himself to do it. Tsuna couldn't even picture himself doing it. I think I will be willing to do anything but kill someone. It just made his stomach coiled if you ask him.
"Juudaime, at least let me make him eat sand!" Gokudera grumbled. Tsuna opened his mouth to argue, only to shut his mouth when Haku shoved them to the side. Brown eyes watched as the older teen jumped down the hole that the boy Ken was currently in. Was he going to kill him? No. Something told him that the older boy did not have the same ability like Naruto.
Maybe he was actually hoping that Haku couldn't do it. Tsuna took in a deep breath and released Gokudera before dashing straight to the hole to see what was going to happen. If the older teen actually killed him then could he stand there and watch? Or would he have the courage to stop him? He did not know.
Shaking his head, Tsuna peered his head over the hole. With the way that the sun seemed to be shining, Tsuna could see the pure cold anger in those brown eyes. It is like a blizzard. He shuddered and flickered his eyes to Gokudera, Yamamoto and Reborn. Gokudera and Yamamoto had their heads tilted to the side while his tutor just stared at Haku with blank eyes.
"Your Mukuro-san was only able to defeat Naruto-sama because of his illusions," Haku declared. His voice dripped with a coldness that Tsuna had never heard before. It was so cold that the brown-haired boy shivered from even where he stood. Not once in his life, he thought he could find a voice that cold. But it seemed like Haku proved him wrong. "So if I was you, I would be concerned about how to make sure Mukuro-san stays alive."
Haku was just as terrifying as Naruto but he hid it behind that serene smile. Uzumaki really surrounds herself with scary people. The thought made him shudder. First it was Hibari, now it was Haku. Who was going to be the third person that the girl hanged out with? An actual assassin. The idea made him gulp. If he wanted to have Naruto's help then he really should get used to it.
"Naruto really likes surrounding herself with fun people, don't you think?" Yamamoto asked with a smile. Tsuna swirled his head at his friend. Was that how he saw Haku? Fun? Terrifying was more like it. The older teen practically implied he was going to murder Mukuro for what he did. Tsuna shuddered. Even though he hated Mukuro for what he did, he really did not want to kill him.
But Naruto would kill him and Tsuna had no idea of how to stop her.
"Weirdo is more like it," Gokudera replied with a scowl. Tsuna could only slump his shoulders. That was a better description than what Yamamoto had used to describe Haku. A sigh escaped his lips and the brown-haired teen watched as Haku pulled out a couple of senbon from his pockets. The teen flung it at Ken and to his surprise, the boy crashed down to the ground.
It happened so quick if you asked him.
Is he dead? That was the only thought Tsuna had to ask himself as Haku grabbed Ken by the collar and tossed him up in the air. Yamamoto quickly caught him and the brown-haired teen could only watch with wide eyes as the older teen jumped up. Brown eyes quickly reverted into the warm eyes and Tsuna gulped.
"Did you just kill him?" He tried to keep his tone even and calm but it was hard to do it, when his eyes kept going back to the boy in Yamamoto's hands. Could senbon actually kill people? It was a lot less messier than a gun. It was also a lot less terrifying than the explosives that Gokudera liked to use.
Haku did not answer and Tsuna felt his stomach coiled at the implication. Oh god. They actually witnessed a murder. The thought made him want to hurl but then something made him pause. Maybe it was because something nagged at him that it was not that easy. It might also be the fact Naruto always made it clear that he should observe things.
But he didn't know what to look for.
"You are lot more softer than Uzumaki," Reborn commented. Everyone swirled their heads at the black-haired toddler. Those black eyes gleamed with understanding as his eyes fixated on the senbon that pierced the boy's necks. Tsuna knitted his eyebrows. What the hell did that mean? How was Haku softer than Uzumaki? He didn't understand anything. "You knocked him unconscious instead of killing him. Uzumaki would have done it differently."
The knowledge that Ken was just knocked out made Tsuna relax his shoulders.
"I could never harden my heart like Naruto-sama or my mentor could," Haku commented as he jumped back up. Tsuna blinked. Sadness colored the boy's brown eyes as Reborn locked eyes on him. "I tried to do it in the beginning but I could never do it. My mentor was never happy about it when he was alive, while Naruto-sama accepts my softness. My softness is the reason Naruto-sama gave me the role of the medic."
I never expected that. Tsuna looked at the unconscious boy and then to Haku. He always thought his classmate would try to stuff out the softness in Haku. Killing someone seemed to always be her answer but Naruto accepted the fact Haku did not like to kill. It was rather contradictory to what he knew about her. She always claimed that the weak was killed, so what made a person strong in her eyes?
He always thought that she meant not being able to kill someone made a person weak. But maybe he could still have her advice without going to the extent that Naruto wanted. Maybe there was a way to make sure Naruto didn't try to kill someone else when they got her out of here. I just need to think of a solution for everyone. He nodded.
Because he really did not want to see any deaths.
As soon as Haku gets here, I'm going to give Hibari to him and I'll go straight to that Mukuro and beat him to a bloody pulp! I'm going to torture him because killing him is just too kind!
That was the thought that went through Naruto's mind as she combed through Hibari's hair. After being cooped in here for so many hours, the blonde was starting to realize death was just too kind of a punishment for Mukuro. Oh no. If she wanted to get revenge against the Pineapple Bastard then she needed to torture him. She would torture him then have Haku heal him again before repeating the process all over again.
It would be so much more satisfying to just torture him over and over again then just simply killing him. Naruto nodded. If she killed him then he would never feel anything. She did not want that. She wanted to drive a stake against him every single day, so he understood the pain that she went through in that illusion.
"Tell me about your childhood," Hibari said. The blonde jerked her head away from the ceiling and looked down at the black-haired teen. His eyes did not show any emotions or gave her any hints to the sudden curiosity. She paused. Talk to him about her childhood? Wasn't this going to make things intimate for them? Because if she talked about her childhood then it was broaching an area that she felt uncomfortable with.
She cleared her throat and raised a single eyebrow at him. Calm down. She needed to calm down. So what if he asked her about her childhood? It wasn't strange. Except it really was strange. Hibari never asked her questions about her childhood. He had always been silent. That was something she was always appreciated about.
"You know if I talk about my childhood, you have to talk about yours," Naruto informed him in a quiet tone. Her hair fell down over him, acting almost like a curtain as his grey eyes locked onto her. He was never going to talk about his own childhood to her. Not even Kusakabe knew about his childhood. So if she used this then Hibari was not going to make her talk.
Everything about them was about exchange and that was something she wanted to remind him. Hibari closed his eyes as if deeply considering her words and the blonde took this as an opportunity to trace in his features. Everything about his features were sharp as if someone sculptured him from a piece of rock. No, ice would be better.
Ice meant coldness while a rock might seem like he was warm.
"Little Fox, I will talk," Hibari muttered. His eyes opened and Naruto could see for the first time that his eyes weren't completely grey. There were little specks of blue in his eyes too. It was barely noticeable but she could see it now that she had a closer look of him. Wait…closer? Her lips parted when she realized that if she just moved her head even lower than their lips would be touching each other.
The knowledge made her gulped as grey eyes looked up at her with an intensity that made her want to squirm. She shouldn't be affected. It was perfectly normal for them to talk like this. But now she was starting to get aware of how his lower lip was slightly more plump than his upper lip. She was also starting to realize that she had a half-naked boy on her lap.
He had bandages around him but Naruto knew how easy it was for a bandage to be torn apart. She also saw that Hibari had some muscles that she wanted to feel again. Nope. This was not the time for her to react like that. They were currently held captives. She should be focusing on how to torture Mukuro instead of thinking that.
"Hormonal teenagers! You being stuck here with that Hibari in this room feels more like a punishment for me than you! I'm forced to witness these scenes!" A masculine voice grumbled. Naruto squeaked and jerked her head up as her blue eyes wandered back down to Hibari's pants. They weren't hormonal. She was not having those kind of thoughts. That voice was wrong.
She nodded and allowed her eyes to look back at Hibari. Grey eyes did not budge from its intensity, if anything Naruto would say that he looked hungry for something. Except she did not have any food with her and that Mukuro hadn't given them any food. But I also don't think Hibari is hungry for food. She didn't know what he was hungry for, but she did know she felt a coil in her stomach.
She also knew she wanted to squirm.
"T-There is nothing much to say," Naruto said. She kept her voice as steady as a slow-moving river even though her heart kept pounding against her ribs. But it was hard to keep her voice steady when she was reminded that she was alone with Hibari. Anything could happen. Not that it would. "I am a really different person than from my childhood self. I mean if you have met me when I was kid, you would have been biting me to death everyday."
Was it her? Or was her voice becoming breathless when she mentioned the last part? Because it sounded like that in her ears. Naruto steadied her trembling arms as her eyes focused back on Hibari. Grey eyes darkened to the point that they reminded her of storm clouds. She could feel herself shivering as those grey eyes looked at her like he wanted to gobble her up.
"Why would I bite you to death everyday?" Hibari asked. His eyes was no longer on her eyes, now moving to her neck and reaching to her chest. Intense heat flooded around her and she felt an intense desire to look down. She would not. They were allies. But they were also stuck in a room and could not get out because neither of them wanted to lose against Mukuro.
They were stuck in a very small room and those words were going to make her whimper for some insane reason.
"I was a prankster," Naruto replied, looking everywhere but at him. If she looked at him then she would squirm again. She would feel that coil in her stomach again. They were not going to enter a very dangerous territory. "Every day I would skip class to play a prank on someone from the teachers to even the most popular boy in school."
She felt her shoulders relaxing as she talked about the past. If she focused on the past then she wouldn't have to focus on that coil inside of her stomach. If she talked about the past then she could ignore the fact that Hibari was looking at her chest. She could even ignore the same feeling she felt when older Hibari kissed her.
The feeling that made her want to squirm like there was no tomorrow.
"I loved playing pranks," Naruto admitted with a smile playing on her lips. "My favorite prank till now was when I was able to trick everyone in my class to open a scroll and making paint splash all over their face."
Hibari raised a single eyebrow at her and she opened her mouth to defend herself, only to squeal when the boy pulled her down. Blue eyes widened when the boy placed his mouth over her neck. She should yell at him but her yells turned to a whimper when he licked her neck. She shouldn't like it. But she could not help but pull him closer, allowing him to bite her neck.
She craned her head to the side to give better access to him. Her system felt like it was shutting down. No, it was short-circuiting from the way his burning, hot breath touched her and the fact that he was kissing his way down her neck. She should stop. She should be the reasonable one. But it was hard for her to see or even think straight with the way he kissed her neck.
"I will make it easier for you brat… protection!"
Those words felt like a bucket of ice water that seemed to wash over her and Naruto pushed Hibari away. Her breaths came out in short pants as her eyes looked everywhere but at Hibari. That made it easier for her to think properly. Her heart raced against her chest as Hibari stared at her. She opened her mouth…except she didn't know what to say to him. Should she yell at him? Except it made no sense. She liked it. She really liked it. So that would be pointless.
Only one question really stood out to her.
"Why?"
Hibari stared at her. He didn't look at her like she was an idiot for asking the question. He looked almost thoughtful as if he was trying to figure out how to explain it to her. If it was his way of telling her that he was a male, she understood better. If he told her that he liked her then she would…
She actually didn't know what she would do.
"You broke the rules." He answered quietly as Naruto looked down at their position. It should be a simple explanation except it made her confuse. She knew Hibari. Those words made sense to a certain degree. In a way she knew that this was his way of making things comfortable for her. If he had said anything else then she probably would have run away.
"You just wanted an excuse to bite me, didn't you? Because what I did in my village shouldn't warrant those words," She pointed out. Her hand wandered back to her neck, where she could still feel his hot breath caressing her. She could still feel a coil in her stomach and it seemed to be more tightly winded than before. She should not focus on that. She should not focus on these things.
She should focus on the fact that they needed to get paid back on Mukuro for what he did to them. With a grimace, Naruto rubbed the back of neck as her eyes focused on Hibari. Hibari just stared at her but did not deny those words. It should make her relax but that voice reminded her of what could have happened between them. She should be careful.
"Once you have recovered, you can go back to biting me in your usual way…through fighting."
The words hung in the air and dimly Naruto could hear an explosion in the background. Yup. It was time for her to remove herself from Hibari and focus on defeating Mukuro. Once that was over, they could put this behind them. They had to put this behind them. What happened between them was because they were alone in a very small space.
He only did that because he couldn't fight her with those wounds.
