The kid had run out of the house like her feet were on fire. He'd tried to stop her but if Kagome was anything, it was stubborn.

Dabi pressed his palm to the back of his neck.

Looked like he'd be playing the role of guard dog again today. He rolled his shoulders in response.

Truth be told he wasn't too keen on Kagome returning to that damn school. For three days during the school week along with the extra two over the course of the weekend, she'd been out of contact with everyone. Not one person called or messaged her to check up on her. The girl's teacher also seemed to be somewhat out of touch when it came to her safety. They never even dropped by the shrine to perform a wellness check.

It was almost as if they hadn't cared at all what happened to her.

His brows furrowed at the thought.

It was no secret that people were afraid of her.

More realistically, they were afraid of what she'd become.

Being the child of the most notorious killer came with its own set of drawbacks.

He'd met the man himself in his youth. There was nothing about Higurashi Seiichi's personality that indicated his bloodthirsty past. In fact, the man had been an exceptionally doting father and husband. During the days he spent at the shrine, Seiichi had tended to him along with Kagome as if they truly were of blood relation. That was the first time he ever saw just how different his father was in comparison.

It'd given him a reason to question his path in life.

How could a person who'd killed so many people offer more comfort and concern than the monster he called his own father?

Dabi closed his eyes.

He couldn't worry about that. He wasn't about to let his past eat away at him now. What Kagome needed was for him to remain as he was currently. She didn't need to be dealing with his baggage on top of everything else.

The young man scratched at the skin beneath his eye, "Guess I gotta talk to her tonight."

If she was going to continue her path on becoming a hero then there were a few things that they would need to cover. Namely her training. If her teacher wanted her to use her power more offensively then he would have to teach her that himself.

His fingers flexed.

It probably wasn't a bad idea in the first place anyways. The better prepared she was to defend herself, the safer she'd be as a whole. He wouldn't be able to protect her from every threat. Not to mention the fact that he wouldn't be living at the shrine forever. They would have to separate eventually.

Dabi strolled towards the forests' edge.

First he'd clear the estate of any dangers. Then later tonight he'd start on their training regiment. By the time he was done with her, those idiots at that school would regret the day they ever viewed her as weak.

His lips curled into a vicious smirk.

He was looking forward to that day.
