Color Inside the line

Chapter 21st

It was just awful the first thirty minutes walking inside the jungle of the island trying to find those involve with the exercises. Everyone and I mean everyone was just miserable with the heat, humidity and most of all the bugs.

Those bugs were just driving Chief Francis Sharkey crazy as with Patterson and Kowalski for the most part. So far they not found anything let alone humans using the special binoculars. Kowalski had decided for everyone to take a ten minute break to refresh themselves with the water and protein bars.

Along with sending out a scout up ahead with Ron Hanson and another.

Kowalski was sitting on the ground filled with rocks and anything else to make him uncomfortable. He was looking around the area to see nothing. "I am wondering if we are on the right island for this exercise?" He will say to Patterson wiping away the sweat from his eyes and face.

"I wouldn't know Ski. I just try to mostly followed orders." He stated with sarcasm with his persona.

"Don't be a smartass!" Kowalski will announced when all of a sudden laser guns began to be fired from 300 hundred yards. Everyone was able to get down to the ground and began firing back with using the special scopes added to help enhance winning the exercises.

Kowalski, Patterson and two others began firing the laser weapons in rapid concession to hit at least one of the marines, seals or anyone else up against them with the exercise.

"Continue to fire everyone." Kowalski yelled at his crew members to continued until finally a few moments later the laser fire stopped. It was at this point Kowalski and everyone had gotten up to check on those shooting back.

They were able to find them dead in the bushes for real. Someone had decided to screw up with changing the lasers with the settings to kill the two men in the bush having been shot through their heads and chest. "Sir there is no life at all." Ensign Robbie Gaines will say to have Kowalski switching the setting without realizing what was going on.

"I need to call the Seaview and let Admiral Nelson know the situation with asking Gaines radioman second class to use the radio on his back to contact them.

Admiral Nelson was livid when Kowalski had given him the news. "Listen Kowalski I suggest that you hide the two bodies for now until we figure out just what the hell is going on." He will say from inside his cabin. "I know there is going to be a chance that the commanding officer in charge would want to contact the two killed by us. I have a feeling he's going to have a field day finding that it was Seaview involved with the two deaths.

"Sir there a possible chance that our spy might of done it with coming along with us on the exercise?" He suggested with the idea while saying it away from everyone and a possible change as with the spy that had changed the settings and the explosives to knock Commander Morton out of the action for now.

"It's possible Kowalski. Just warn your men to be extremely careful with their movements. Understand?" Nelson shakes his head.

"I will and differently understand sir. Over and out Alpha Bravo." As he gave the code to sign off the radio. "Alright everyone cover the bodies now before moving on further." Thinking about Nelson and the spy. There was only one possible man that might of changed the settings was Gaines since he was the last one to check them before leaving. He's new to the Seaview during the past month. Admiral Nelson had said something earlier on that his file was sealed.

This he had found usual at first and didn't think any more about it.

Once the two bodies were covered with anything they were able to find. They had continued on with the trek only to come across a small cave. This would be a great chance for the enemy to be hiding and catch them into the act.

Kowalski and Patterson were the ones with their equipment to walk inside the darkened cave with turning on the lantern in order to see where they were going. It was a small cave with nothing inside nor any type of animals and including bears. "This place is creepy Ski. Let's get the hell out of here now?" He asked and commented with his friend agreeing to the idea and with moving on.

Meanwhile on board the Seaview. Admiral Harriman Nelson was paying a visit to Commander Chip Morton. He was sitting in his chair wearing reading glasses and a book that Nelson had given to him. He had never read the book Moby Dick. He had found it very interesting having to be finishing up the last few pages.

"Chip how are you feeling?" Nelson will asked with seeing his commander and friend relaxing like he's supposed to be doing.

"Getting better accept for the occasional headaches sir. Any word from the search party on the island?" He was concerned for the team members.

"Nothing so far Chip. Otherwise everything was going according to plan." He lied to his friend and needing to keep it quiet about the two killed with the laser weapons on full setting. "I was going to check again and find out on whether they had seen anyone as yet."

"Don't you think it's usual for no one from the exercise has appeared to the Seaview crew members?" Chip said with Nelson beginning to leave.

"I just don't know Chip. Get some rest and finish that book and let me know in what you thought of it over all." He asked with moving out into the corridor to past no one at this particular time. He headed towards the Control room to check in with Executive Officer Commander Stu Riley standing near the radio shack for any word.
