Chapter 19: Legends Die Legends Born

"Sumire?" the girl in question looked at his blond friend "I want you to summon Nue if we encounter a fight alright? " he asked hesitantly " and maybe get a feel of your summon" he continued.

"What do you mean?" the girl ask confused.

'she's on the verge of somekind of jutsu that is connected to that snake bite' Naruto thought as he answered Sumire " I think you are abou-"

"Uughh…." a groan escape Kiba's mouth as he woke up from blissful sleep "where are we?" Kiba asked his teammates while massaging the pain on the back of his neck. " home island, we manage to escape while you were knock out unconscious" Naruto replied.

Kiba's face scrunch up "so we failed?" he ask feeling like a hard pill to swallow 'Damn it!' Naruto looked at him "failed? Why did you think so?" he ask curiosity in his face although he already know the answer. "well we have to retreat isn't that obvious? " the puppy boy said sarcastically.

"well that makes sense…" he pulled Kiba up as a portal appeared behind him "good thing I made a back up plan."

It's been a few hours since he was created, just beyond him is the border of rain and fire country. 'this is the current battlefield of Sand against Leaf' he mused 'I have to be careful' he jumped down finding a huge boulder, observing the object for a while he nodded to himself. He applied the entrance-exit seal he had been tasked to and activated it. Looking around to check if someone is spying on him, he opened a portal after making sure there is none.

From the portal came out the group of four namely: Sumire, Naruto, Kiba and Shino. "Damn that was cool!" Kiba whistled. Naruto nodded to his clone who nodded back before dispelling in a surge of electricity. "alright, we have to tread carefully, what we fought earlier is probably just scouts. If Konoha can spare that huge amount of…. humanoids? in their scouting groups, there's no telling how many they can spare in the battlefield" the blond said making the other three nod in acceptance before they all resumed tree jumping.

Tsunade is mad, no scratch that, she is MAD. In front of her is Baki the wind blade, a Sand S-rank nin. All around them battle occurs as various leaf nins and zetsus fought sand nins. 'this would have been easier if those two idiot Akatsukis did not split up earlier!' she gritted her teeth thinking about Hidan and Sasori who decided to split up without even asking her opinion 'damn S-rank shinobi pride' she thought bitterly as she was forced to jump above another blade of wind.

"You shouldn't have come to the battlefield, you're only S-rank medic" Baki rattled her, he knows that is not true but it doesn't hurt to make her rage and blindly attack him if he could get her. Things would be easier. The blond woman gritted her teeth but other than that she did not show outward reaction. She shunshined behind Baki and threw a punch that caught the man's shoulder "Shut the FUCK UP!" she shouted before the Baki she hit poofed into log. She went down in time to dodge another blade of wind.

She noticed Baki going through long series of hand seals, she narrowed her eyes trying to discern the jutsu before the said eyes widened 'that's not something dodgeable!' she thought before going through hand seals of her own as fast as she could.

"Futon: Kazekiryuu!"

Sasuke is irritated, he might have a demon in his gut "I resent that!" he sweat dropped internally. 'Sorry' he thought. Anyways he knows he is pretty strong even without the bijuu in his gut, but that was because of his flexible usage of the two major jutsus in his belt Katon: Bakuhatsu Goakakyu which he could alter the amount of explosion however he wanted and Katon: Kaen Renrakusen which virtually made him super heated guy that burns whatever he touches at will or make a super heated weapon that can cut like hot knife through butter.

But that was it, when he asked his sensei back in his early training days he said that 'you have to master all the elements' and he did! After long, long and hard and hefty amount of training he had mastered all the first level of elemental manipulation. All involving the damn leaf! Luckily there's no shortage of leaf back in Konoha.

The point is, now that he has some semblance of control to all elements, he doesn't know what to do next. He have to ask his sensei for suggestion once they reached the island.

Mind already made up, he hastened his pace catching up to his group.

A huge eruption of smoke made them stop their travel to rain. The smoke dissipated to reveal a giant white slug with bluish pattern on the back. "Katsuyu-sama?" Naruto wondered out loud as a giant wind dragon suddenly appeared hitting the huge summon with great force that was cushioned by the squishy body of the summon.

"It seems the battle between leaf and sand is on going in that direction" Shino commented. Sumire looked at the blonde " Tsunade-sama also seem to be fighting strong opponent" she said gauging the facial reaction of the blond leader. "Should we help them? They're still comrades" Kiba interjected.

Naruto shook his head " No, this isn't our fight anymore. Konoha betrayed our trust, our allegiance will be to the new village" he said before going ahead feeling his teammate's eyes behind him before they continued 'Please be safe Tsunade-sama.'

"How are you feeling Yugito" the burly man behind the desk ask his ninja, an important ninja considering she is a jinchuuriki. "I can fight again Raikage-sama" the blond female petite ninja replied. Looking towards her, the muscular man could see the the kunoichi is almost at one hundred percent now, with few bandages that covered some shallow wounds.

"It is fortunate that I came as fast as I can, you would have been dead now" the female bowed her head to her leader "Thank you Raikage-sama, and I apologize for being unable to stop the yellow flash. Our comrades are butchered right before my eyes in small amount of time" A shook his head. "No Yugito, if there is something I learned during the past war. It is that if you survive, then you still have the power to take justice of their death. That is a life lesson gifted to me by my brother before the very same man killed him."

Yugito nodded in understanding " I'd like to retreat from the front lines sir, and join the on going hunt for this yellow flash bastard" she said as A looked satisfied at the thirst for revenge in her eyes.

They've arrived faster than expected as Kushina put an entrance-exit seal just fifteen kilometers where their battle had been. "Finally, I can continue on my work!" Minato said jolly raising his hands casually. "OUR work" Kushina interjected as her husband sweat dropped "right" he said rubbing the back of his head. Sasuke went closer to Yuugao who was breathing pretty heavy.

"How are you feeling?" he ask "can't carry and extra bit of chakra?" a thin smirk came out as he teased the purple haired. Yuugao snorted before rolling her eyes "I'll be fine, I just have to get used to it. Mind your own business" she said as Sasuke frowned at her rude remark. He said no response as he started walking away, Yuugao feeling guilty as she might have said a bit too much called back to him " How do I stop it from talking to my head?" she ask. The Uchiha turned his head back towards her " just think of blocking it."

He turned around in time to see his blond sensei about to use his signature move "sensei" he interrupted him "can I talk to you for a second?" Minato nodded seeing his serious face. He vanished in a yellow flash bringing Sasuke with him making the two women sigh. Suddenly Kushina's face brightened up she jumped Yuugao holding the younger woman's elbow " It's girl talk Yuugao-chan!" she said in almost too much lively voice.

They appeared in a clearing close to the edge of the island in Minato's signature yellow flash "what is it Sasuke?" the fourth Hokage asked. "I'd like to ask a suggestion of yours" Minato nodded signifying he has the blond's attention.

"You told me to master all the elements, you didn't tell me it's so hard" Sasuke explained frustrated as Minato smiled "of course it is, no training should be easy" he casually replied. Sasuke nodded in the logic " I have mastered the first steps of all elemental manipulation, but I can't really use them much seeing as you did not give any of us much jutsus to begin with" Sasuke said calmly with underlying irritation.

Minato smiled "You're really more of an Uchiha than Naruto. Even Mikoto threw tantrums in our gennin days for lack of jutsu training from Jiraiya-sensei" he explained, Sasuke's eyebrow rose "So?"

Minato sighed "Listen Sasuke" he started while putting his hand on the younger boy's shoulder " I have known a lot of Uchiha execute a lot of jutsus they copied. It's only natural that as an Uchiha grow older he or she copy more jutsus" Sasuke swelled with pride "but none of them used a copied jutsu perfectly" and Sasuke deflated.

"Even my brother?"

"Even your brother"

"..."

"..."

"why?"

"because sharingan allowed them to copy and jutsu to manageable levels" Minato answered. "I don't understand, so why go through all these elemental manipulation training if I can just copy and use elemental jutsus?" Minato sighed in the obviously Uchihaistic asnwer of Sasuke.

"A jutsu that isn't mastered is chakra intensive Sasuke, and you can't even use the copied jutsu fully because if you haven't mastered a jutsu yet you tend to use it only as the way you how it was used. Even a Kage level Uchiha like your brother still depletes his chakra because of this reason" Sasuke's face scrunch "it's not like I can master a jutsu at first look! And besides I have a bijuu!" he said indignantly. Minato actually smiled at Sasuke's reply "nothing is impossible Sasuke, you just have to figure it out" he said before teleporting away leaving the Uchiha at his thoughts.

'Mastering a jutsu at first look? That would be insane!' he mused before looking at the spot his sensei occupied "but maybe not too impossible…"

The moment they entered the village hidden in rain, the nose of Kiba became exponentially weaker making it less usable. Shino's tracking method is even more unusable because his bugs are vulnerable to such strong raindrops. Naruto sighed "Okay, split up and find them. Raise your chakra if you found them " they nodded before all of them vanished in their own direction.

Naruto reappeared near the tallest building, obviously the leader's building. 'they might have connection with the village leader if they were able to stay in this place in such long time' he mused to himself "hmm… maybe…. just maybe" he said to himself as he started walking close.

'the entrance is guarded and the only window is….' he looked up 'about thirty feet high'. He shook his head "that it is…." he started walking casually to the entrance. "Halt! " he stopped "what's your business here?!" one of the guards said harshly. Naruto shrugged "nothing much" his sharingan activated staring right at their eyes. "I'll just check inside alright?" the rain ninjas captured in his genjutsu did not reply as they returned to their post letting him be.

'Alright, I guess I should make myself upwards…'

The war had been raging for almost the whole day now. It is taking its toll even for a ninja of caliber of Tsunade and Baki. Looking towards the sun 'it's gonna turn night soon, we'll be forced to stop fighting' she though as she was forced to dodge AGAIN FOR A HUNDREDTH time another windblade.

"Where do you fucking get all your chakra!?" Tsunade shouted at her enemy irritated that he kept sending her wind blades every time. Baki chuckle before doing a high kick that sent another blade of wind to Tsunade, the blond rotated around the blade and started running close towards the wind user. He started sending multiple wind blades towards her which would be hard to dodge even for an evasion trained medic like her.

She substituted with the log Baki used earlier 'where did she even get this?' she thought. The next series of wind blades forced her to hide behind a mud wall erected by one of the fighting shinobis around them. She created a clone and the clone transformed into a log. She went out on the other side of the wall as the 'log' was just barely visible enough. She jumped through another series of wind blades from his 'stupid long range enemy' and smashed her leg to the ground in front of him which would have still severely injured him if he did not substitute with the 'log' Tsunade prepared for him as the transformed clone poofed from the damage received from its creator.

Tsunade smirked as he saw Baki breathing a little bit heavier now ' I guess I have that brat to thank for this trick' she thought thinking of her one time student that sadly became renegade. She realized that Naruto's name still exist in her slug contract and she should have reported it to the Hokage. But her love to the kid out weighed her feelings towards her responsibility to the village when she thought about it 'it's not like I actually care of some people in the village… well except for sensei and Jiraiya. Damn Orochimaru can play Akatsuki for all I care' all of this came through her mind while she is battling the wind user.

She kept forcing the man to concentrate at him and keep moving. Left, crouch, jump, bend. She did all she could to survive while her chakra is mould and plan in her mind. Until Baki eventually bumped into another nin, she quickly substituted with the nondescript nin, her fist going for the killing blow "this is the end!" she punched the guy sending him tumbling 15 feet away before getting stopped by a rock that was cracked by the collision…. before he burst into smoke.

Tsunade's eyes widened 'shadow clone!' was her only thought before the real Baki emerged from under the ground stabbing her straight to the heart with a kunai "You did not think I only use wind jutsus right?" he said. Blood leaked Tsunade's mouth, she is dying and he knows it. No amount of medical ninjutsu can heal a hole that replaced the heart fully. Baki remained in his position as she slowly stepped back.

'I wasn't even able to pass my lineage or my skills' she thought solemnly. She thought of all the happy memories since her childhood, the time when Senju family is still around. She remembered her team and their antics during their training days. And then the pain she felt when her brother and lover died, she smiled "we can finally reunite now" she whispered. And then he remembered her grandfather, the shodaime Hokage and the strongest shinobi in his time, the Nidaime Hokage or his uncle. Their legacy, the Senju clan's legacy. She knew she would not be able to do anything about that now, and then she remembered something….

FLASHBACK

"tenth try huh" Tsunade said she watched Naruto successfully revive a fish " you made a good call when you asked me to teach you medical ninjutsu. That's some superb chakra control you have there to do that this early stage of your training" she looked at Naruto's face as the boy nodded carefully hiding his facial expression under the blank face but she was not a sannin for a reason. " But I still won't let you sign the slug contract" his face twitched " not until you prove yourself" he nodded in understanding.

She started walking back when " You think I came here asking for your wisdom and contract and expect you to train me let alone sign that contract free?" she heard his blond student's voice, she smiled at the confidence he is exuding in his voice but she opted not to turn around and not show the smile. " Impress me within three months and I might let you… maybe even the contract holder when I die."

FLASHBACK END

She smiled to herself 'he really gave it his best shot' she went through several hand signs resummoning Katsuyu that vanished earlier from the fight.

"Tsu-Tsunade-sama!" the small form of Katsuyu that she managed to summon from a sliver of her chakra left frantically tried to heal her but to no vail as the wound would not even close 'poison' she thought as if the wound itself is not enough to kill her.

"Listen well Katsuyu, this is my last command" the small slug nodded hesitantly "I- I want you to give him the contract" the slug was silent for a moment before realization struck her "Hai Tsunade-sama" she said as Tsunade cut the chakra she fed to the jutsu making the slug vanish in smoke.

She looked at Baki with a message conveyed between their eyes "Quick and painless" he said, respecting the skill of the woman. She nodded grateful to him at least, with a quick move Baki slit the throat of Tsunade as the sun finally set giving way to the moon.

By the end of the day, no Senju was left alive.

"It seems logical that they will hide in the darker parts of the village" Shino said to himself as he entered a warehouse that looks to be empty "Whose there?!" he heard. Observing the owner of the voice, she is a female with fang marks on her cheeks and looks closely alike to his teammate Kiba. Three dogs instantly surrounded him warily.

"What's your business here Aburame?" she asked, it seems she is observing him too. Shino raised an eyebrow " the clans that escaped the rotten leaves" he said cryptically. It was a code that was passed between the messages they had before the team went out. She nodded "Call me Hana" he nodded.

"Well Hana, please prepare yourselves as I'll be doing something…. illogical" he said as he raised his chakra as much as he can. Hana grab him and pushed him to the ground pinning him harshly "What are you doing!?" she asked frantically.

"My teammates will be here anytime now, they have something that will let us escape this situation" he calmly said as shurikens peppered their position making them leap out of the way. "You dare enter our village!" a rain nin said as multiple rain ninjas entered the warehouse as the battle with the escaping leaf ninjas ensued.

"Is this supposed to be the village leader's home?" Naruto wondered to himself. Since he entered the building all he has been seeing were corpses ' maybe this is supposed to be the cemetery' he sweat dropped to the idea. 'whoever stores corpses as a keepsake?'

Entering the first of the last three floors, he only saw a bland room with a scroll sitting on a round stone in the middle with light shinning at it from god knows where. ' At least there's no corpses here' he sighed dramatically. He went close to the scroll carefully checking for traps, no scrolls would be separated like that if there is no something valuable inside.

Seeing as there are no traps he continued forward and checked the scroll itself for traps only to find out there's none too. 'how… unsatisfying' he thought. He opened the scroll and he almost drop his mouth at what he saw "this is…" he heard a sound of someone coming upstairs and hurried to the upper floor careful not to make a sound. The second floor was also a dark room but this time filled with bodies, what intrigued Naruto was the piercings in each body that was not present on the lower floor. He heard the footstep going to his location and quickly hid behind a body.

'what is this?' he thought pulling out one of the black rods inserted inside the corpse. Not having learned something from it he opted to pocket it. He saw the owner of the sounds of footstep earlier. She is a woman at her thirties with blue eyes and hair and an origami flower on her hair.

"Whose there?" the woman asked calmly looking at his direction behind the corpse. ' She caught me' he thought as he went out to full view of the woman with raised hands, now that he can fully see her he can see the black coat with red clouds of her 'Akatsuki' he thought, thinking fast on how to get out alive in his situation. "I'm sorry maam, I think I'm lost" he said casually trying to sound friendly. The woman sent her papers at a speed that could slice him as he barely manage to dodge unprepared for the attack.

He quickly shunshined trying to get past the woman but the woman blocked his path and elbowed his stomach while in the shunshin making him grimace in pain. She pulled him up by the hair and tried to make a quick slash to his neck but Naruto quickly pulled out a kunai and attempted to cut her hand making her quickly jump back. He shunshined back to create a space 'I'm outmatched here' he thought as he quickly shunshined this time towards the top floor where he hoped the window he saw earlier was located.

His soul was blessed as he saw the light coming from the huge window. Seeing so many pieces of papers following him he increased his pace until he was outside jumping out from the window and wall walking to the nearest building. He sensed the chakra fluctuations indicating a battle a realized that the building was chakra insulated "Shit!"

"Damn that kid could fight so well" Hana commented as she saw Sumire engaging the multiple enemies outnumbering all the leaf nins present by almost five to one, and that was saying something since the group Hana is leading is the bunch of Aburame and Inuzuka that was left behind. The same purple haired girl also commanded them not to engage as it would be real hard to disengage such a huge group when their last teammate arrive.

Speaking of their last teammate that was their escape method. It had been twenty minutes since he was gone and the kid is slowly being overwhelmed and was kept on the defensive. If they remained stationary now she might really get killed.

Sumire for her part is breathing heavily. Since arriving to the place, she saw the battle and ordered her allies to slowly retreat as she handle the enemies. They did not heed her at first but when she started peppering the place with water bullets and then hacking anyone the comes close with her wind coated blade, they had no choice but to follow since she fought with reckless abandon.

Her supposed arrogance was starting to be her downfall as her chakra is getting to critical levels. She cut the head of another nin that came too close and jumped high restarting her original water bullets jutsu. This time her enemies know the jutsu well and manage to dodge with but a few scratches. She was forced to dodge a rain of senbon and go low for a kick to her head. She kicked the kunoichi that tried to kick her and had to jump out of the way again as another tried to punch her before she could even capitalize.

'where are you Naruto?!' she thought frantically as her face remained calm, she still had to prolong until her teammate and the only escape way arrives.

A sudden cry from one of her enemies announced the arrival of Naruto. He shunshined before anyone was able to get close to him and planted the same kunai to another kunoichi. He hand signalled Sumire at the same time this happened 'Hold them back for five minutes' Sumire nodded in acknowledgement before he vanished in his shunshin. He's going to apply the entrance-exit seal to the wall. 'Hopefully no one notices it's a seal' she thought before she initiated the fight again this time starting with a water whip.

She rotated around with her water whip forcing the ninjas to jump back and went through series of hand seals 'Suiton: Suryuudan no jutsu' she intoned managing the water dragon because of the lesser amount of chakra needed since the water is provided free from the rain. She let the water dragon roam around her hitting multiple enemies with it before she was forced to let go because of a paper bomb thrown beneath her. She quickly substituted with one of the enemies instantly feeling the amount of chakra loss as penalty to substituting with a living thing.

'still have three minutes' she thought now paying close attention to the Akatsuki that was given a wide space from her underlings. 'I know you're still angry at me but I don't have a choice. Please help us survive this' she internally prayed as she went through another series of hand seals and wounding her thumb before slamming the hand to the ground 'Kuchiyose no Jutsu!' she almost want to shout that one instead of just in her mind.

Her worries were unfounded as she summoned Nue in her tiger size form. The creature seemed to take its time looking around as even the enemies carefully observed the new arrival.

"Nue?" Nue's voice sounded questionning as it look at its summoner bruised and wounded. When it sensed her chakra reserve too low however Nue's eyes narrowed. Sumire shivered having seen that expression from her summon for the first time. The roar that came next sent shivers to everyone as Nue seemed to command the very earth itself "NNNNUUUUUUUEEEEEEEEE!"

Naruto flinched, as soon as he activated the seal and opened a portal he turned around only to see the amount of chakra Sumire is wielding now almost blinding him for seeing it for the first time. Nue seemed to be taking chakra from nature and was being shared to the summon and its summoner via the snake bite on the neck 'Se-sen-' Naruto's surprised thought was cut as Sumire's hair started flickering between purple and white, if she faced him he would have seen her eye color also started fluctuating from darker to lighter purple.

Sumire suddenly vanished being replaced by mist, scratch, she turned into mist as she and her summon started battle with renewed vigor. "RETREAT TO THE PORTAL!" Naruto rarely shouts but this occasion calls for it as a battle between S-ranks are about to ensue.

Only Konan and five of her ninja around remained that day. Suffice to say the legend of the White Mist was born that day and the start of the Mystery rank. The rank held by ninjas that holds unexplained jutsus and skills.
