Opening the door was a Caucasian man wearing a white collared shirt, a red tie dangling around his neck. From the posters posted on the train carts, the man was bare of the striking red tailcoat, blue undercoat, and the black tophat sat, all those garments hung on the coat rack beside the door.

"Dick!" Jack Haly yelled in surprise before a huge broad grin stretched on his face. "What a surprise! I didn't know you were in the city."

"I just got here actually," Dick smiled, happy to see the circus master once more. "Wanted to stop by and have a chat."

"Well then, come in!" the sixty-year-old man said joyfully, urging the thirteen-year-old to enter, him closing the door as the teen entered. "So what brings you here in Star City?"

Dick shrugged walking over the fireplace, looking over the framed photos sitting on the mantle. "When was the last time you checked the news?" the thirteen-year-old asked as he grabbed a picture frame. A picture of him when he was younger surrounded by his family. Smiling fondly, he placed the photo back on the mantle before turning to look back at Haly.

Haly chuckled, walking over to his desk, sitting down. "Not in a while boyo, we've been busy since our tour in Europe is about to kick off in a couple of weeks. You were even lucky that I was here, there's a lot of things that's changed especially with traveling internationally."

Dick nodded, understanding what he was being told. "You missed a lot then," he sighed.

"What's wrong?" Haly asked in concern. "Is everything alright?"

Dick smiled sadly, "Well I don't really know what's going on myself but things could be better. I just wanted to ask you about some things."

"Well ask away then, anything for you," Haly smiled. "You're like my grandson, Dick. You can ask me anything and hopefully," he smiled playfully. "I can answer."

"Well I hope you can," Dick chuckled before deciding to get to the point. "Have my parents or uncle or aunt ever talked to you about my heritage?"

Haly frowned at this, thrown away at the question. "Your heritage?" he murmured, his brows knitting in concentration. "You're asking for a lot there boyo, your family has been in the circus since it started, you'll be lucky if I even remember such a conversation!"

Dick smiled slightly, "Well I'm hoping that you would, it would help me a bunch."

Haly sighed before looking around the room, looking to jog up any memory before his eyes brighten in realization, his eyes landing on the closet at the side of the room.

"Actually, now that you mentioned it, there was always something your mother always hid, never once telling anyone," Haly said, getting up from his chair and bounding over to the closet. "I'm not sure if your dad knew but from what I knew, even he didn't know what your mom was keeping from him."

"My mom?" Dick frowned, looking curiously at the older man.

"There were times where someone would stumble across your mother alone, looking through this old notebook," Haly said as he began rummaging through the things in the closet, pulling out some boxes and looking over the things inside. "Never once told anyone what the notebook was about, always keeping it once someone arrives. I even heard your dad tried snooping around her things to find it which caused an argument between them."

Dick walked over to look over at the things Haly was going through. "A notebook? I don't remember my mother hiding a notebook."

Haly hummed suspecting this. "Well, that's the thing, after some prodding, the notebook seemed to disappear, everyone stopped seeing it, we all thought they threw it away or something," Haly said before his shoulder slumped and pulled out an old tethered brown leather notebook. "But, as we were cleaning the trailer a year or so after you were adopted, one of the men cleaning the cart out tripped over a loose flooring under your bed and found this, the notebook."

Dick's brow furrowed trying to understand what Haly was saying and trying to find out what his mom was hiding. Haly blew on the notebook, dust blown away after accumulating over the years. Haly stared at the notebook, his face drawn and unseeing before smiling sadly.

Getting back on his feet, Haly sighed before looking at the confused teenager. "I'm not sure what's in the notebook, none of us wanted to, if your mom wanted us to know, she would have told us. But," Haly said, looking at the notebook. "I've been holding onto it all these years, I'm not sure if she would have liked it to be thrown away."

Haly seemed to be contemplating slightly before stretching his arm out, reaching the notebook towards Dick who stared at it in shock and wonder. "I'm glad I didn't," he amended before smiling. "Because whatever you're looking for… maybe your mom had the answers and hopefully, it's in this notebook."

Dick numbly took the notebook, still reeling in shock. "Are you sure?" Dick asked, staring at the notebook in amazement, pushing down the urge to go through the notebook right there and then.

Haly nodded, a small smile on his face. "If your mother would have chosen anyone would have to keep it, it would have been you."

Dick smiled gratefully before hugging the elder. "Thank you."

"You've grown, Dick, but don't forget, you're still my grandson, not by blood but that doesn't change that your family," Haly said, smiling down at him. "I hope you find the answers to what you're for."

"Thanks, Uncle Haly," Dick said, breaking away from the hug.

"Come visit us next time, the folks would love to see you, I know a certain elephant who would love to," Haly said, knowing that he couldn't help Dick find the answer he was looking for.

"I'll definitely visit when you guys come back from your Europe Tour, especially if you come to Gotham," Dick promised, a huge smile etched on his face.

"Well, I better make sure Gothams the first place we visit when we get back," Haly smiled fondly. "You better get going there boyo, especially if you want to find some answers from what I could tell, that notebook is filled with things."

Dick smiled, looking down at the notebook, clutching it tightly. "Yeah, I better head out, it's getting dark out anyway. Thank you so much, Uncle Haly, and good luck on the Europe Tour!" he said as he walked towards the door.

Haly smiled, his eyes shining in mirth. "Good luck to you as well, Dick. I hope you find the answers to what you're looking for."

Dick smiled before walking out of the door, notebook clutched tightly to his side. "I hope to see you soon."

"Me too," Haly said, waving his hand before Dick smiled once more and closed the door behind him. Notebook in hand, Dick sighed sadly, looking over the place once more with a small smile before walking away from the trailer.
