Resentment
Kagome woke with a start, sitting up and peering through the darkness surrounding her. The fire had dwindled to embers and offered no light to see by.
Peering around, she waited while her eyes adjusted to the light of the moon.
A sound that made her heart clench came from beside her and she peered down at Rin.
"Please…" the child cried softly. "Lord…"
Her words were soft whimpers and Kagome realized the child was sleeping.
"Come back...Sessh…"
As a tear trailed down Rin's face, Kagome felt something dark and heavy settle within her.
At that moment, she hated herself.
