Annabeth POV:
"There weren't any noises last night in the Ravenclaw girls dormitories either," I explained as we headed to our Care of Magical Creatures Class. Percy nor Nico himself had heard the sounds he had told us about last night. "Maybe, I just imagined it," Nico murmured, though I could tell he didn't believe it. Although throughout the entire day, perhaps due to the number of students in the corridors, the sounds weren't heard by any of us. "On another note, did either of you manage to eat any wizarding candy here?" Percy asked. Nico and I shook our head. "What's wrong?" I asked.
"Well, Harry, Ron, and Hermione got me some jellybeans the other day and each one is supposed to taste different, but one of them was golden coloured and tasted like chocolate chip cookies. Do you think wizards and witches can get their hands on ambrosia?"
I stopped walking for a moment, shaking my head before continuing to walk. "No. That can't be."
"Maybe you should try the jellybeans, I found a few others that looked the same colour. I don't have them now, of course."
"If it is ambrosia," I said. "Do you know is other jellybean boxes have it. Mortals can't eat it,"
"Then again," Nico added. "Wizards and witches aren't really mortals,"
"They aren't godly either," I retorted. "Their physiologies are probably somewhat similar." We stopped talking as we arrived in the open space near Hagrid's hut, the teacher beckoning the last of the class to gather around.
"Now Rocky was only a last week special," Hagrid said. "Normally we would have started with a new animal, but unfortunately, ya see, it will take a little longer for the tame creature to come. So, we'll be working with Nifflers today! Now does anyone remember what a Niffler is?" Hagrid had brought out a set of furry, rodent-like creatures with a long snout that reminded me of a bill.
"Nifflers are creatures who are infatuated with shiny objects," I replied once Hagrid selected me to answer.
"Correct, Annabeth!" Hagrid laughed and continued to explain more. I turned to Percy whose eyes slowly looked to his bag once hearing the 'shiny objects' part. I pray that he didn't have drachmas on him. If we had to meet, we could always go back to our dorms and get the drachmas before we'd go to the room of requirement. Unfortunately, the exercise was one that Hagrid said he had used before, which mainly consisted of hunting for leprechaun gold with the Nifflers.
We each got a Niffler to handle as the creatures began searching for the leprechaun gold Hagrid had placed in the ground. Unsurprisingly, several of them went to Percy, who had his hand gripped tightly on his bag. They began nipping at him, even attacking at one point as Percy ran away from them. "Percy?" Hagrid asked, "Do yeh have any money?"
"Maybe?" Percy said, still keeping a good distance from the Nifflers, "How do I get them to go away?"
"Just' give 'em yer money, ya can get it back at the end of the class,"
"Um," Percy said, "Is there a way I can keep my money?"
"By the looks of this, they ain't going to stop unless they get it. Must be something really shiny," It seemed so. The Nifflers were chasing crazy as if mad, refusing to stop. Percy grumbled and searched through his bag and brought out a few Drachmas which the Nifflers eagerly pocketed.
Percy POV:
We spent some time after class helping Hagrid. It was mainly because we needed to get my Drachmas back. The wizarding money Galleons were similar in appearance, but if looking closely you could see so many differences. When class was finished I rushed back to the common room to get Berties Bott's every flavour beans.
"Percy, you're back," Hermione said, getting up from her seat as I entered the room.
"Yeah," I responded, heading up to the dormitories with them at my tail. "I accidentally left some money in my bag. I got it back, helped Hagrid finish up with the Nifflers. Did you finish your homework already?"
"We, we were at the library. Wanted to finish reading some books,"
"That's nice. What was the subject?" I searched through my trunk at the foot of my bed soon finding the box of jellybeans, looking as full as yesterday. The golden ones could still be seen through the opening.
"Greek mythology," Harry answered. I stopped for a moment, wasn't sure if they noticed the pause before I turned around.
"That's interesting," I replied, my mind in a whirl of one thought. Did they know? "I had a class on that back at CHB. The headmaster of the school taught it himself,"
"Percy, are you named after the Greek hero Perseus? That's your actual name, right?"
"Mmmhmm," I nodded but didn't leave the room, not yet. I didn't think they'd figure it out this fast. We've barely been at Hogwarts. "I heard you have a brother named Percy too,"
"Percy, not Perseus," Ron stated.
"We've been researching it after the minotaur attack. That bull-man came from greek mythology,"
"And you're telling me this all because?"
"We were wondering if you knew anything about it."
I gave a sigh and shook my head trying to see if I could play the dumb card for longer. "Nope, why would you think that?"
"We just wanted to ask. Things have been weird since you came," Ron said.
"Weirder than usual?" I asked. "I don't think I could call any of your previous Hogwarts years normal."
"You don't trust me," I said after they didn't respond. They didn't answer to my remark either. Didn't say deny to it or agree.
At last one of them spoke. "Do you want to help us?"
"Help you with what?"
"Trying to figure this out, why the minotaur and those empousa attacked."
"I'm not sure. My dad did make sure I had a connection to Greek mythology as a kid, even if he wasn't around." I held in my breath, waiting for their reply.
"What's your dad got to do with Greek mythology?" Ron asked. "We just want to know if you want to help us. Hogwarts is important to us. You learnt about greek mythology, you know a lot more than us. We want to know if you want to help figure out why the school's been under attack so many times recently by Greek mythology creatures,"
"We are friends, aren't we?"
"Of course."
"Then you know my answer," I widened the smile I had. "I'll do it."
