It was morning and the sun was out as Mrs. Croaker was leading the town residents, even Anne and the Plantars back to Wartwood. Everyone was worried about poor Charlie as they saw him run off in tears as he was distraught by the events of the battle between the toad army, and Sasha, even nearly losing Sasha.
"Charlie!" called Mrs. Croaker.
"Charlie!" called Wally.
They were on the right path that lead back to Wartwood but they did see tracks of Charlie's foot prints. Anne and the Plantars were worried about how Charlie would feel about the events from the night, knowing that he used to be in a abusive relationship with Sasha, but stood up to her and ultimately begged her to join their side for her sake.
"Hop Pop, I'm afraid that we'll see Charlie in a very emotional state. After everything that happened that night, that look on his little face. I've never seen him so broken." said Anne worried.
Hop Pop placed a hand on Anne's shoulder to reassure her.
"No matter what happens, Anne. We're there for you and we're there for Charlie." Hop Pop reassured. "But I hope he's alright when we find him back at Wartwood."
They finally made it back to Wartwood, stopping the ride they took to get there. But as they arrived, they all got off the big float and when they walked down the walk way that lead to the ground, they looked forwards and saw a very heartbreaking sight.
"Oh my frog." said Hop Pop.
They saw Charlie was in a very distraught state. He was near the middle of the town where the water fountain was and he was laying near the water fountain, looking as though he fell off the wagon like a former alcoholic. He had what looked like a glass bottle in his hand that they suspected was possibly a bottle of alcohol but it had a sweet smell coming from it. Charlie faced his back to them as he was crying his eyes out silently.
Charlie was chugging down a few mouthfuls of the liquid that he was drinking out of the glass bottle. He was in tears, his cheeks stained with them as he was grieving. He started to take hold of what looked like wooden objects and he would toss them at a great distance in anger. Seeing the sight of Charlie in such a distraught state was heartbreaking for them to see but they knew he was broken hearted.
"Charlie!" Anne called.
Charlie could hear them but he didn't face them. Anne was the first to come to him as she kneeled down to him, pulling him up so he could sit up while she held him in her arms, placing his face on his chest. She saw his face was tear stained, red and looking as though he died inside.
"Charlie, please tell me your not drinking." Anne said hopefully.
Anne took the bottle from him and gave it a swig and smacked her lips a bit as she let out a sigh of relief.
"Anne, is that wine?" said Hop Pop worried.
"It's just grape juice. If it had alcohol, I'd be feeling cold. The alcohol makes people feel cold." said Anne reassuring him.
Hop Pop and the rest of them let out a sigh of relief. They turned to a saddened Charlie who was really upset as tears continued to streak out of his eyes.
"Charlie, we know this is hard. I know that was hard for you." said Sprig trying to inject some comfort in him.
Charlie didn't face anyone as if ashamed to show pain or distraught emotions.
"Why bother anymore. This is what I am now." said Charlie sadly.
"What are you talking about?" said Toadstool looking curious.
"We don't even belong here. We're just a bunch of dumb monkeys who are looking for another banana to eat or a tree vine to swing from. Why bother anymore. You said it yourself, Toadstool, dumb monkeys like me don't even belong here. I'm practically stuck here till forever till I'm old as Betty White." Charlie insulted himself.
They all looked shocked to see Charlie so down. Toadstool may not have been easy to get along with anyone but for the first time in his life, he felt guilt, remorse.
"Charlie, no, you're not a dumb monkey." said Toadstool kindly. "I was wrong to say that. You've done so much here like Anne, even if it's hard for me to admit it."
"Doesn't matter." said Charlie.
Anne managed to get up on her feet while helping Charlie get up on his feet.
"Charlie, you know you're not what you just said." said Polly.
"I'm not even suppose to be here. Why should any human be here when we're the odd ones out. Why would anyone want me here anyway? My own father didn't want me, the explosion at that tower nearly got us all killed when I had my last grenade. What am I even doing here? All people see when they look at me is a kid whose nothing but a dumb monkey screw up who can't even defend himself in a fight, even if he knows martial arts, he doesn't have the brains to use them when he should." Charlie told them while grieving.
Everyone there heard what Charlie referred to himself as and they didn't like what they heard. They actually felt guilty like they were responsible for how he feels but they knew that they were not at fault. They knew that it was Captain Grime, his army and Sasha were to blame for how he feels right now.
"Charlie, no, humans like you and Anne shown us that you do belong here, no matter what world your in, you are part of us." said Felicia.
"Charlie, you're not the failure in this, if your biological father can't see that he's lucky to have you as his son, than you don't need him. You have me." said Hop Pop trying to help him feel better.
"Charlie, that grenade wasn't your fault, nor the explosion, it was one of them toad soldiers who had a brain fart that did that." said Ivy.
"Charlie, you know you're not a dumb monkey. You've shown to be the kindest, smartest person we've ever known." Toadie reassured.
"What does it matter? I wanted Sasha to join the good side because I know that toad army is just using her, I may have dated her but I never wanted harm to come to her." said Charlie.
Anne knew that this meant that Charlie still cared about others, even if it meant caring some someone who hurt him, Sasha.
"Charlie, I felt the same way you did when I last saw Sasha, she tried to control me with how she was, but even though Sprig stood up for me and I stood up to Sasha, I wanted her to come with us so we can be safe together, but she rejected it. When I lost her as a friend, I felt the same as you did, broken." said Anne sadly.
Charlie seemed to understand that Anne felt the same as he did but he was still grieving. He didn't even know what he should do or what to do period.
"I can understand you still somehow care about her, even though she hurt you and you stood up to her. I was the same or sort of. It's kind of complicated on my end. But I know you need someone to heal the pain in your heart." said Anne reasuring him.
Anne suddenly had an idea to bring Charlie out of his funk. She blushed and smiled at the idea.
"Charlie, I know the one thing that'll heal the pain you're feeling. It might not be much but it's something." said Anne feeling confident.
Charlie looked up and when he heard what Anne said, he wanted to know what she meant but he got his answer when Anne pulled him in her arms for a hug and planted her soft lips to his in a kiss. Somehow, the kiss from the love of his life seem to still make his world spin like a spinning top toy. He felt his heart go from hard as ice to meltling the ice and warming his broken heart. Charlie closed his eyes and wrapped his arms around her as he kissed her back. Everyone had seen them kissing each other and let out an adored "Ahhhh"
They eventually pulled their lips off each other as Hop Pop, Sprig and Polly came over to hug Charlie as they embraced him in a group hug. Charlie hugged back.
"I know that while being in this world, I was at my happiest when I was with you guys here. I may not of had a dad back home, but Hop Pop felt more like a father to me than my real dad ever did. I may have been an only child but Sprig and Polly felt like siblings to me. Being with Anne, I've been in love with Anne for over a year since I first laid eyes on her and I don't want to be with any other girl but Anne." said Charlie proudly. "You guys are my family, I'm not going to let anyone hurt you."
"We'll never let anyone hurt you ether." said Hop Pop.
Charlie felt better in hearing this as both Anne, Charlie, Hop Pop, Sprig and Polly sat down at the edge of the fountain. The residents felt better knowing and seeing that Charlie was feeling better.
"Residents of Wartwood, could you give me and my family a minute? Why don't you all take a rest for the time being, it's been a long night, am I right?" said Charlie kindly.
They all smiled as the kind hearted spirit of Charlie was back.
"Everyone, lets give them a minute and rest our feet. If they need us, they'll know where to find us." said Toadstool.
The town residents all went to go sit down in parts of the town to rest their feet.
"Charlie, we know that was hard for you back there. Thank you for everything." said Hop Pop.
"Like I said, you guys are my family, I won't let anyone hurt you. I know you wouldn't let anyone hurt me ether." said Charlie reminding them.
Anne planted a kiss to Charlie's cheeks and forehead, causing him to blush and smile.
"So, you guys wanna get breakfast and come up with some kind of plan to get Anne and Charlie home?" said Sprig with a grin.
"It's gonna be dangerous. Perilous even." said Hop Pop warning them kindly.
"Understatement, you know." Polly chimed in.
"Charlie, you should know it's going to be a bit scary." warned Sprig.
Charlie let out a sigh.
"Well, whatever happens next, one thing's for sure. If we're together, I know we'll be all right. And so will my Charlie." said Anne with a grin.
Charlie shed a tear and let out a heavy sigh.
"I know it won't be easy, but I agree with Anne, whatever happens next, one thing's for sure. If we're together, I know we'll be all right." said Charlie in agreement. "I think I could use a hug right now."
Anne and the Plantars both hugged Charlie in their loving arms as they gently rocked him back and forth to comfort him. They began to hum a comforting song to Charlie as he felt so much better. They knew that the journey to help get Anne and Charlie home wouldn't be easy but they'd try anyway. They knew that they could do good with some food as they went to eat breakfast and rest up a bit.
Little did they know, somewhere in Newtopia, there was this big castle and a tall and slender female newt was heading out of the castle or city from the looks of it. She was about to head out till a hooded male figure that was handing her the weapons she needed for what she was doing.
"General Yunan, you sure you don't want assistance?" asked the hooded figure.
The female newt with white blonde hair shook her head.
"I'll be fine. Captain Grime is now guilty for Valley failure and is a traitor to us. I'll capture him myself." said General Yunan.
The male hooded figured saluted her and walked off back to the castle. When he was out of ear shot and out of sight, that's when the young, slender bodied female newt pulled out what looked like a newspaper article of what had a picture of Charlie's face with the article reading "Human Creature Helps Lead Uprising" she smiled at the picture.
"Kind of cute for a little baby what ever he is. Maybe he could be a bonus, I'll just have to remind that wittle baby whose boss." said General Yunan mockingly.
