THE LONG NIGHT
PART 1. THE FIRST OF HIS NAME
THE KING
Everything had been planned and the time had come for the coronation and wedding to take place on the same day. Aegon is in his room getting ready with help from the servants. He wears a black and red tunic with a black cape. A gold chain with the three headed dragon on it is around his neck. "You look like the King you were meant to be." Arthur says.
"Thank you. I only wish my father and mother were here."
"They would be proud of you My King."
The door opens and in walks Tyrion, "Good you are ready."
Aegon looks at him noticing the tone in his voice, "You seem upset."
Tyrion sighs, "Its Joy, she wants to marry now and I say we wait until after this business with the Night King is over."
"Happy wife, happy life or so I heard. Happy fiancée, happiness will follow into the wedding." Arthur says.
They leave Aegon's room together with the King's Guard is made up of Ser Arthur, Ser Darrion, Lady Brienne of Tarth, Ser Vardis Egen, Ser Lucas Cobray, Ser Jaime Lannister, Ser Devron Hale of White Harbor, and Ser Garlan Tyrell of High Garden. Jacqen H'ghar is also with them. They parade through the streets on horseback to the Sept of Baelor where Aegon is crowned king.
"Long live the King!" The gathered nobles shout in unison. Then Lord Dickon Tarly escorts his sister Talla Tarly into the hall for the wedding.
Aegon cloaks Talla and then they say the words and are married in the light of the seven. The feast is held on the tourney grounds. "You make a beautiful Queen." Samwell says to his sister, kissing her on the cheek.
Aegon leans over and whispers into her causing her to blush. After the feast he takes his new bride to their Royal House on the Tourney grounds. "Are you nervous?" He asks.
"A little…"
"Would you like some wine?"
"Yes a little please."
"Talla look at me." He says after she finishes her wine. "I am your husband first and everything else comes second."
She smiles, "Kiss me."
He removes the clip in her hair allowing it to fall down her back. Then he slowly undresses her and she him; then they make love several times that night. They break their fast alone and then attend the Tourney which lasts three days. Ser Arthur takes the day and wins the tourney. The day after the Tourney Aegon holds court for the first time. "I name Samwell Tarly my good-brother by law Hand of the King." Sam steps forward and kneels before Aegon who places the badge of office on him.
"I name Lord Mace Tyrell Master of Coin." He kneels and takes his place at the King's side. Ser Davos Seaworth is named Master of Ships. Orthel Hayes is named Master of Whispers, and Lord Thermon Day is made Master of Laws, Lord Berric Dondarrion is made Lord Commander of the City Watch. After decrees and appointments are made he meets privately with the small council.
Jacqen H'ghar is present, "I would like you to contact your people. I want that Red Woman found and killed."
"It will be done Your Grace."
Tyrion is also present, "The time is coming for the great war against the dead. When my Aunt arrives we'll divide the Northern forces with her army. We defend White Harbor, Winterfell, and Moat Cailin. The line stops at Moat Cailin…We do not let the enemy south."
"What if they do make it pass Moat Cailin?" Tyrion asks.
"Then may the gods descend from the places on high and help us." Samwell says speaking up.
"That is why Carmell and Gendry will remain south with their Dragons just in case."
After the meeting Aegon spends the rest of the day with his wife. Over the next few days he keeps busy with the preparations for the upcoming battle against the dead. Valyrian swords are sent to White Harbor, Winterfell, and Moat Cailin. Dragonglass weapons are to sent to the same places and the wall. Ships were already sailing North with supplies from Dragonstone and the Reach. Aegon saw each ship off personally.
When he returned to his bedroom the new Grand Maester is waiting, "What is all this?"
I am with child my love." Talla says.
Aegon rushes to the bed and kisses Talla. "I am to be a father!" He says out loud. Ser Arthur and Ser Darrion are present and clap. The news spreads quickly and an impromptu feast is held. The bells ring and word spreads through the city that the Queen is with child. "Ser Arthur you are the best sword among my guard…I want you and Lady Brienne to guard my wife and unborn child. If things go wrong take a Steam ship and head to Braavos."
"Do you think things will go wrong my King?"
"I know the wall will fall and beyond that I know not what will happen. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst."
Two weeks after the feast Daenarys arrives with her army and Dragon. They rest for a day and then head North. They sail up the coat to White Harbor using Steam Ships. The trip takes four days and when they arrive Eddard Stark is waiting with Ser Wendel. Both Aegon and Daenarys fly over the city on their Dragons. Tyrion had flown to Moat Cailin on his Dragon.
Over the next few days the forces Daenarys bought with her are divided among White Harbor, Winterfell and Moat Cailin. All Castles, towns, and villages North of Winterfell had been evacuated and the people divided among the aforementioned places. Meanwhile Aegon flies to Castle Black and insists that he be allowed to take his Grand Uncle to White Harbor. Once he is safe Aegon returns to Winterfell.
PART 2. THE NIGHT KING
The army of the dead numbered over a hundred thousand strong as it made its way towards the wall. The Others, the children that betrayed their own to create the Night King traveled with him. They had created a horn, the Horn of Winter from the bones of Bran the Builder and Azor Ahai. With it they can bring the wall down and reclaim the lands that once belonged to the Children of the Forest.
As they travel a snow storm follows them. The army stops so that Shade Wraith and Blood can warg into a bird and spy on the wall. Castle Black has Soldiers manning the walls, both men of the Watch and of Wildlings. After scouting the wall, they continue marching towards the wall and when they arrive they unleash a storm of ice, snow, and wind. Then Shade blows the horn, it is a loud long blast that make the men defending Castle Black cover their ears. The sound sends chills through their bodies, then the wall starts to crack.
Huge chunks of ice fall from the wall revealing the stones beneath the layers of ice. People run as the debris falls and crushes the castle. A white cloud billows up as a quarter mile section of the wall falls down. "Hello!" Edd Tolett cries out.
"Over here!" Someone yells.
All is chaos as people cry out for help in the debris cloud. Ed starts walking towards the voice, when he is stabbed in the back by a Wight. As the fog from the debris clears the fighting starts and the Wights surge though the gap in the wall. The men still on top the wall drop barrels of flaming sulfur and pitch on the Wights. They also fire arrows and dragonglass head spears down into the white mist.. The screeches coming from below are a sign that they are killing Wights.
The defenders fight to slow the Wights down and kill as many as they can. A second force of Night Watch men, Northern Soldiers, and Wildlings are gathered a quarter of a mile from the Castle. Their comrades retreat to the second force with Wights chasing them. They greet the Wights with a hail of arrows and catapult fire.
Fire traps are unleashed on dead army. Fire trenches are set ablaze to slow the enemy down, but they do not last long as the Walkers come forward and with a wave of their hands extinguish the flames. Eventually the defenders are overwhelmed and reanimated by the Night King. Scouts of Walkers are sent with Wights to the Northern most Castles only to find them empty. They do raise the dead from the castle crypts. Meanwhile the Shade marches half the Wights on Winterfell while the Night King heads to White Harbor.
AEGON
WINTERFELL – ONE WEEK AGO
One night while at the Castle he could not sleep, so Aegon goes for a walk. He winds up at the heart tree in the gods wood. When he sits to pray a powerful mind touches his mind. His spirit is taken to a cave beneath a great Heart tree beyond the wall. There is man in the tree with vines growing in his body. "Greetings Aegon Targaryen."
"Who are you?"
"I am known by many names…My sword Darksister was found at the Fist of the first men."
Aegon gasps, "Ser Brynden Rivers."
"Aye my kinsman…I am the three eyed Raven and I bought you here to awaken the power inside of you."
"I have awakened the Dragon."
"You are also of the North Aegon…Fire and Ice…You have the power of both Great Houses…Come closer let me show you." He places his hand on his head and when he does, it feels real. "Now you are ready to face the Night King and the Others who betrayed the Children and created the crown of the Night King…"
"Thank you."
"Before you go there is one last thing…"
PRESENT
As they march the wind, snow, and fog go ahead of the army. Born of Fire and Ice he comes to bring the Dawn. It is time to unleash the power from within. Aegon's eyes glow and he dispels the snow storm to the shock of the Other Shade and the Walkers. Then he mounts his Dragon Rhaegal and flies from behind the wall. The men on the walls cheer as Aegon flies overhead on his Dragon.
"Dracarys!" On his command Rhaegal blasts the Wights with fire from his mouth. Meanwhile the men on the walls fire flaming arrows and dragonglass arrows at the Wights. One of the Walkers draws an Ice Spear and hurls it at Aegon. He points his hand at the spear and it shatters. After two more fire attacks Aegon sends the signal and the Calvary charges through the Wights decimating their ranks.
Aegon lands the Black Dragon Rhaegal, drawing his sword. Aegon faces off against two Walkers. He kills one with his sword and shatters the other with his power. A wave of fire explodes from his hand incinerating hundreds of Wights. The Other Shade tries to flee, but Aegon creates a wall of fire in front of her.
"The Prince that was promised. Promises are meant to be broken!" She tries to attack Aegon, but Rhaegal lands with a huge thud snatching him up in his mouth. He shakes the Other and throws him into a tree. Aegon stares at the tree and it suddenly bursts into fire. When all the dead around Winterfell are destroyed Aegon leaps onto Rhaegal and flies towards White Harbor.
DAENARYS
"The son should be up by now." Ser Barristan says to Dany on the battlements of the wall facing north.
She looks up at the sky and only darkness fills the sky. "The Long Night." She says. "Aegon said this would happen." Suddenly a fog starts moving towards the city and out of the fog a spear catches Ser Barristan in the shoulder. Several more arrows fly out of the fog at the men on the battlements.
"They're here!" A man yells.
They fire back into the fog as Daenarys runs to her Dragon Daarix. She mounts the Dragon after releasing him from the chain and they fly up and over the wall. "Dracarys!" The fire illuminates the fog and the Wights as they screech and burn. An arrow strikes her arm, but the armor saves her from serious harm.
"Dracarys!" She commands again diving into the fog, as the wind kicks up and the snow falls. As she pulls up again the fog turns south, along with the snow storm and the wind. "What in the hell!" She lands behind the wall and dismounts.
"It looks like they are retreating your Grace." A man says to Dany.
"How is Ser Barristan?"
A few people are wounded, some are dead, but their bodies had been burned by young men running around with oil and fire. As the day wears on the sky remains dark. Then by what should be sunset Aegon arrives. "They left." Dany says meeting Aegon near Wolf's Den castle. "Heading South."
"Then South we go. After Rhaegal has rested."
TYRION
"No sun at all. The Long Night shall come and with it the dead." Tyrion says to his brother.
He looks at Tyrion, "Is that a poem?"
"No a prophecy of things that are happening now."
"Tyrion!"
Upon hearing his voice he walks over to the Brazier, "Aegon, Dany are the two of you together?"
"Aye in White Harbor. Listen when Daenarys attacked the Wights fled south…You and Joannar stay out of sight until we arrive."
"What if they go around us?"
"Then yes attack."
They break the link, "What did they say?" Jaime asks.
"The dead are on the way. They wish me to stay out of sight unless absolutely necessary." Then Tyrion gets an idea and contacts Gendry and Carmell. Later he goes to feed Joanar and get some rest. A few days later Gendry and Carmell arrive on their Dragons. They are to hide in the Marshes in case the Wights try to sneak by. It is high noon or it is supposed to be when the Wights come.
"Snow Storm!" A watchmen yells.
"Remember light the fire traps hold the arrows and catapults, send in the Calvary if they make it pass the mark."
"I'm the elder brother here and I know the plan."
"Don't get dead now."
"Don't fall off."
"Light'em up!" Edmure commands and they off the Wild Fire traps. Even frozen the stuff still explodes. The defenders cheer, but their cheers subside as the Walkers put out the flames.
"Archers! And Catapults! Fire at will!" Jaime commands.
"I thought the plan was to save the Archers." Lord Mallister asks.
"Plans change in the heat of battle."
Now all Tyrion cold do is wait but he didn't have to wait long as Joannar became anxious. Which Gendry or Carmell had engaged the enemy. He takes the air and immediately spots fire gouts from the left. It is Carmell on her Dragon Rodan. Tyrion flies North unleashing Dragonfire on the Wights, then he swings West towards Carmell. As he is flying back he spots Gendry on his Dragon blasting Wights to the East of Moat Cailin.
"Dracarys!" He commands blasting the enemy across Gendry;s flight path. He pulls up and heads back north and blasts the Wights on his way back towards Carmell. That is when Ser Brynden leads the Calvary charge into the flaming fields north of Moat Cailin. Suddenly an ice spear flies from below and hits Joannar in the right back leg.
"No!" He tries to get her to fly back to the castle, but she is losing a lot of blood. They land in a burning area. Tyrion tries to dismount, but Joannar won't let him. The Dragon turns its own head and yanks the spear out with its mouth. Then she just lays on her stomach. "Joannar you have to get up!" He yells in Old Valyrian.
His head snaps around as the fire is extinguished and Wights charge them. But before they can reach them Gendry lands on his Dragon who bites claws, and whips his tale about.
Another Ice Spear pins the Dragon's wing to his side. Then the Wights converge on them. All seems lost when darkness becomes light and the Wights are instantly incinerated along with the Walkers. When the light fades the snow storm is over and Aegon sits atop Rhaegal as Dany flies overhead.
AEGON
After destroying the Wights Aegon spots the Night King and the Others. He points his hand and a wall of fire encircles them trapping all four. The Night Kings tries to extinguish the flames, but nothing happens. Rhaegal leaps across the field and stops by the ring of fire. He dismounts and the flames part left and right so that he can enter.
"The Prince that was Promised."
"The Others!" The Night King charges Aegon. They fight and after three moves the Night King severs Aegon's right arm at the elbow.
"Kill him!" The Others say at the same time as Aegon falls to his knees.
He raises his ice sword Aegon's anger drowns out the pain and he summons his power with a shout. The Night King is incinerated and the Others burst into flames. All that is left is the Night King's crown and the Horn of Winter. Then he feints from his wound, the pain returning as soon as he ended the magic.
