Chapter 19
One Desperate Act
Kuroko watched as the Female Titan was sent flying into a building from Eren's punch. The Female Titan was quick to recover and was on her feet and on the move as Eren and the Scouts gave chase. Kuroko groaned as he shot his cables to a nearby building and gave chase. As he passed by the destroyed building he saw the carnage that came from the battle.
The loss of civilian life was something he expected from this mission, but seeing just how much did not sit well with him. There was also the fact that the MP's could use the civilian casualty count as reason to disband the Scout Regiment.
"Was that a wall cult church?" Connor asked, breaking Kuroko from his thoughts.
"Yeah, it was," Momoi answered.
"Despite how annoying there are, I still feel bad. That's not the way someone should go out," Connor said.
"We can't do anything about it now. All we can do is contain her so we can minimize casualties," Kuroko said.
"Can't say we've done a good job at either of those," Connor replied.
Kuroko's grip on his blades tightened. He was frustrated at both himself and the MPs. While it was not their job to keep the populace out of danger, Kuroko felt as if they needed to do more in this situation.
"Let's just keep chasing. We're bound to get an opening," Kuroko said.
His two squadmates nodded and continued forwards.
Ahead of him, he noticed that Hange had stopped along with Jean and Armin. He ordered for Momoi and Connor to keep going while, he coordinated some kind of plan with Hange.
When he landed on the rooftop, the three were in the middle of a conversation about Eren. However, it seemed that the three did not realize he was standing with them. Kuroko sighed and added his own comment when Armin spoke about their last fight.
"I can't help but agree, Arlert. Despite not being there for the first fight, you're making sense."
The two recruits jumped in surprise at the sound of the captain, while Hange chuckled.
"Still as stealthy as ever, Tetsuya," Hange said.
Kuroko merely shrugged and motioned for them to continue their conversation.
"He wouldn't have transformed if he knew he couldn't take her. He's got this, okay?" Jean said.
"Well yeah, but determination alone isn't enough to win fights. You of all people should know that. It'll take a lot more than that to beat Annie," Armin replied.
"Then you got some sort of plan, Arlert?" Kuroko asked.
Armins gaze fell to the rooftop below them. "At the moment, no. All we can do is let them slug it out and wait for our opening." Armin turned to Kuroko, who responded with his usual monotone expression. "You'd be perfect to strike at that opening."
Kuroko let out a breath and shrugged. "You're not the first to think that, and you won't be the last." He gave Armin a determined look. "Give me that opening and I'll take it."
"They're getting far, we should continue the chase," Hange said.
The three men nodded and followed the Section Commander. The were quick to catch up with the others, but noticed where the chase was headed. The soldiers made to an large area of flat land and not building were close to latch on to. Hange was quick to order everyone to split up and go around.
Kuroko caught up with his team and joined other in going around. The flat area was part of a plaza of, likely, government buildings. He could hear the panicked screams of both civilians and MP's and the two titans barreled through. He could only guess as to why the MP's were taking too long to join in the fight.
The Female Titan then came to halt, using a building to slow herself down. Kuroko could see people falling out of the building and landing on the pavement below. Kuroko cringed at the sight of red splotches peppering the plaza. When Kuroko got in a suitable position, he watched the fight that was about to unfold.
The two titans faced each other down. The Female Titan got in the same fighting stance as in the forest, while Eren brought his fists up. Kuroko could only guess if Eren had enough self control to not fight recklessly.
Don't make the same mistakes you made last time, Eren, Kuroko thought.
Eren made the first move and, with a roar, charged towards the Female Titan. The Female Titan used a hardened elbow to block the attack. The blow caused for a large gust of wind to send debris flying into the air. The Female Titan then kicked Eren in the face, but he managed to block it by crossing his arms. He then grabbed her leg and flung her over a building and into another. Eren then barreled through the building to get to the Female Titan. She was quick to avoid it and continued to run.
"Damn, that's a lot of death," a voice said.
Kuroko looked to his side and saw Aomine standing next to him. He managed to control his surprise, but he was still startled by his sudden appearance.
"When did you get here Aomine-kun?"
"Around the same time you did."
Kuroko grit his teeth in frustration. Why was he present and all the other MP's were just milling about.
"What the hell is everyone?"
Aomine shrugged. "Either dead or still in a state of shock."
"Huh?"
Aomine scoffed. "You can't be serious? I'm sure you're not blind to what's going on. This battle that's raging, it's killing hundreds. You haven't seen the amount of bodies I've seen on my way over here."
"I know that. We knew that would be a risk should the worst case scenario happen," Kuroko replied.
Aomine rose an eyebrow and crossed his arms. "You're telling me you don't care?"
"I do. I wanted this plan to work without any casualties. Despite all the preparations we made, we still underestimated our enemy."
"Tetsuya! Come on!" Connor called out.
Kuroko could see that Aomine was not finished berating him, but he still had a job to do. He turned away from his friend and prepared to join in on the chase. Before jumping, he spared a glance to Aomine.
"I also underestimated how the MP's would respond."
Before Aomine could respond, Kuroko jumped back into action. He had lost sight of the Female Titan and Eren, but the sounds of battle were easy to catch, as well as the movement of the other Scouts. He wasted time arguing with Aomine. His main hope with this operation was for him, Momoi, Aomine, Midorima, and Akashi all work together to stop her. He knew that together the Female Titan would be no match. But in the end he guessed wrong.
Kuroko was broken from his thoughts when he heard gear being fired from behind him. He spared a glance back and saw Aomine catching up to him. He tried to fight it, but a happy smile formed on his face.
"If we're going to take her down, we're doing it together," Aomine said.
"Thanks, Aomine-kun."
"Don't get the wrong idea. I ain't helping the Scouts, this is for me," Aomine said.
Kuroko rose an eyebrow in confusion. He was not sure what he meant. "Then why?"
"I overheard some of the Scouts talking. I know who the blonde titan is. She was my subordinate. I'm bringing her in. I gotta know what the hell is going on," Aomine answered.
"That goes for me too. Let's do this Aomine-kun! Just like the old days," Kuroko said.
—
When the two arrived to the Scouts that were watching the battle unfold, the sight that greeted them was Eren biting into the Female Titan's hardened leg. Kuroko was not sure whether to compliment Eren on his tenacity or berate him for his stupidity. Eren's bite began to crack her armor. In desperation, she began to slam a hardened fist into Eren's skull. Kuroko cringed at the sound. It would take time for Eren to heal all of his wounds, which meant that he would likely be out of the fight now.
With one more yell and a fist to the head, the Female Titan broke free. Not keen on staying, the Female Titan turned to run. As Kuroko and Aomine were about to jump in and attack. Kuroko saw someone jetting towards the Female Titan's leg. When Kuroko realized who it was, he cursed and jumped into action with Aomine following close behind.
"Holde! Stand down!" Kuroko called out.
Aline turned to see the glare of the blue-haired captain. He, meanwhile, could see that she was full of rage and wanted to attack. The attack she did manage to land was the opening he and Aomine needed. With another glare, Aline got the message and backed off.
"Who's that?" Aomine asked.
"Someone who's not supposed to be here. Let's go!" Kuroko said.
Just as the Female Titan's injured leg healed, Aomine and Kuroko slashed at them again. The Female Titan staggered again and, this time, fell to the ground. She looked up to see an MP moving for her nape. Just as Aomine brought down his blades, she hardened causing Aomine's blades to snap.
Aomine clicked his tongue in frustration and backed off. Kuroko used the moment to slash at one of her eyes. The Female Titan barely registered his attack as Aomine was moving in for another strike. They had to cripple her as much as possible in order for her to be subdued.
From the rooftops, the Scouts watched as two soldiers slash away at the Female Titan in almost perfect synchronization. Momoi, meanwhile, was, almost, overcome with emotion at the sight. Her two closest friends were working together again, similarly to when they were cadets. Connor noticed her emotion and chuckled.
"This is the famed cadet duo, huh? They live up to their reputation," Connor said.
"Aomine-kun, let's finish this!" Kuroko called out.
"Let's do it!" Aomine replied.
The two launched themselves high into the air, as high as they could go. They turned and latched their cables on the Female Titan's back. Their decent was at and incredibly high speed, everyone was certain they could finish her off. However, in one quick motion, the Female Titan was back on her feet. The two Oriental soldiers halted their decent and landed hard on a rooftop, knocking the wind out of their lungs. Kuroko coughed as the wind returned to his lungs and rolled onto his back. Several Scouts rushed to their sides.
"How? I thought we were faster than her healing?" Kuroko asked aloud.
"Dunno. I could've sworn she was done," Aomine answered.
"She must've focused her healing on her legs when you two were slashing at her upper body," Armin said.
"Damn," the two said.
"Are you guys alright?" Momoi asked. Worry was evident in her voice
"Keep it down, Satsuki," Aomine grumbled.
Momoi let out a sigh. "If you have time to be an ass, then you must be."
"Uh, guys. I think Eren's waking up," Moblit called out.
Kuroko turned a bit to get a better view and saw that Eren was back in the fight. However, his body still remained as damaged as before. His body had changed. Compared to before, his skin was black and his veins looked like the color of molten steel.
"What the hell happened to Eren?" Kuroko asked aloud.
He did not get an answer, as Eren let out a piercing scream that caused for everyone to cover their ears. He then bolted into action and barreled towards the Female Titan. His movements no longer resembled that of a human, he moved towards the Female Titan like a beast. He tackled her causing for her to land face first into the ground and destroyed a courtyard market.
The Scouts moved to follow, while Connor and Satsuki stayed with Kuroko and Aomine. The two tried to stand, but were stopped by the two.
"You ready for another go, Aomine-kun?"
"Thought you'd never ask, Tetsu," Aomine said with a chuckle.
"No you two don't. With the shape you're in you'll just get swatted like fly's," Momoi said.
"We need to make up for not finishing the job before," Kuroko said as he sat up.
"You two have done enough," Connor said.
"Technically, you two can't give me orders," Aomine argued as he slowly began to stand.
Kuroko chuckled and began to stand as well.
Meanwhile, the two Scouts watched them and put their faces into their palms.
Kuroko and Aomine drew their last set of new blades and made sure their gear was in working order.
"You two are so stubborn," Momoi said.
The two responded with a smile and launched themselves towards where the action was. Momoi let out an annoyed sigh, as Connor lightly chuckled.
"They sure are something," Connor said.
"This is the academy all over again," Momoi replied.
"What should we do?" Connor asked.
"We should tell Hange to leave anymore fighting to those two. If Eren can't do it, they won't make the same mistake again," Momoi answered.
Connor nodded and the two launched themselves towards the action.
—-
The four arrived, they saw that the Female Titan managed to kick Eren away. She was quick to run away and began to run towards the wall. He fingers then hardened, turning into claws. She jumped and latched onto the wall, determined to climb it.
"Don't let her escape!" Hange called out.
Eren, meanwhile, recovered quickly and jumped onto one of her legs. The Female Titan hardened one of her feet and kicked him off, but Eren took her leg with him as he fell.
Armin began to panic as he saw her getting closer and closer to the top of the wall. Mikasa and Aline were about to jump in, when they heard someone call out to them. The group looked back to see Momoi and Connor landing behind them.
"Where are Tetsuya and Daiki?" Hange asked.
"Handling the problem," Momoi answered.
Everyone turned to see two soldiers moving towards the Female Titan at high speeds. One wore the uniform of the MP's and the other the wings of the Survey Corps. The two flew into action and slashed the Female Titan. They severed her leg joints causing for it to go limp, but remained stuck in the wall. Aomine then moved under her leg and severed her toes. The first step to making her fall was done. The two moved up the wall and slashed her arms, severing her joints and tendons as well. Her arms went limp, but her hardened fingers remained in the stone. The two chose a direction and slashed her fingers.
There was a moment when the three made eye contact. The two Orientals could see the look of fear on her face as she began to fall.
"Don't mess with us, bitch," Aomine said.
With a scream, the Female Titan plummeted to the ground. The crash caused for debris and dust to fly into the air and a large gust of wind. However, that did not deter Eren. He managed to get on top of her before anyone could react. With one punch he managed to sever her arm and head. Eren then opened his mouth wide just as he saw Annie within the nape.
"Oh, no! He's gonna devour her whole!" Hange called out.
However, just before biting down, he stopped. Everyone watched, curious as to why he stopped. It made everyone freeze in their tracks. They were all startled by the sound of roof tiles breaking. They turned to see an out of breath Aomine and Kuroko landing. Momoi and Connor rushed to their side.
Before they could deal with them, a flash of light emerged from the decaying form of the Female Titan. Soon the Female Titan's body began to rapidly harden as it enveloped Eren as well. Eren tried to break free, but he was being held in place. Hange called out for him to be pulled out of the nape, but someone else was the first to make it.
They were left with wide eyes as they saw an MP cloak pulling Eren out. When they got a good look, they saw red hair. Hange growled in frustration at the sight. Akashi was the one saving Eren; the worst case scenario.
"You've made quite the mess Jaeger. However, we do need her alive."
Akashi then pulled him out before Eren's titan could be absorbed. To everyone's surprise, Akashi dropped Eren in front of Hange. Everyone eyed him with both curiosity and frustration.
"He's still yours isn't he?"
Before anyone could respond, the sound of gear caught their attention. At Hange's side landed Levi, who was quick to point his blade at Akashi.
"You sure took you time, Captain Levi," Akashi said with a cocky smile.
"What's your angle?" Levi asked.
"Don't have one. This is still your operation." Akashi eyed everyone carefully. Every Scout had their blade drawn and were ready to kill him. He would have to be patient. "Though someone will have to answer for the destruction of my city."
Hange rose an eyebrow, but relented. They rose a hand and everyone looked less defensive.
"See, we're all on the same side," Akashi said.
"Akashi, you bastard. Sure took you ass long enough to get here," Aomnie coughed out.
Akashi shifted his gaze to see Aomine walking towards him being supported by Connor. Kuroko was with him being supported by Momoi. Despite how he felt about the two, he was glad to see them alive. He had witnessed their expert teamwork in taking down the Female Titan.
"I happy to see the both of you alive. You as well Satsuki," Akashi said. "Seeing you two fight like that again brought back some memories."
Kuroko chuckled. "Yeah, we still got it."
Kuroko raised a closed fist to Aomine. When he noticed it, he chuckled and raised his own closed fist. The two bumped fists and Momoi almost got emotional again.
Akashi then turned to the steaming and decaying corpses of the two titans. Eren's titan had yet to fully decay, while the Female Titan's seemed to have vanished. Akashi rose an eyebrow, curious as to where the other titan's body was. As he walked around, surveying the destruction, he saw a group of Scouts gathered around something. Curiosity overtook him and he walked towards the group. His eyes widened as the sight of a giant crystal. Encased in it was a blonde girl, who he assumed was the Female Titan.
"What the hell?"
He had not realized he said it aloud as the Scouts had turned their attention to him. The unease in their stares was evident. They were not sure what to do.
"So, it was you, Annie."
Akashi turned to see Aomine, still using Connor as support, walking towards the crystal.
"You know her?" Akashi asked.
Aomine shook his head. "Not really. Met her today in fact. She was part of the unit assigned to escort the Scouts. I was in charge of that unit." Aomine let out a humorless chuckle. "There was something different about her compared to the other newbies. Wish I realized it wasn't a good thing. Some superior officer I am."
"Don't blame yourself."
Everyone turned to see Kuroko joining their conversation.
"You couldn't have guessed it was this that made her different. We only realized it because she slipped up when trying to capture Eren."
Aomine let out another humorless chuckle. "That doesn't really help me feel better."
"Where's Erwin?" Kuroko asked.
"He should still be with Nile," Akashi answered.
Kuroko let out a breath. "That can't be good. Momoi-san, leave me here. There's something I have to know. Find Erwin, please."
Momoi nodded in response and stopped being Kuroko's support. Akashi moved to assist, but with a gesture he assured him the he was fine. Momoi gave on last look at Kuroko before running to find Erwin. Kuroko limped over to crystal and placed a hand on it. It felt warm to the touch. He guessed it was because it was freshly made.
"Is she still alive?" Akashi asked.
"I don't know. I can only assume she is. Otherwise, she wouldn't have done it," Kuroko answered.
"Great. We still don't have answers," Connor complained.
"If you're going to move around so much, might as well set me down," Aomine said as he put a hand over his stomach.
"Sorry," Connor said before carefully bringing Aomine to the ground letting him sit.
"Is Eren awake yet?" Kuroko asked.
Connot turned to where Mikasa and Armin were. Eren was still out cold.
"No."
Kuroko let out a sigh. "Guess it's over."
"Like hell it is!"
The four soldiers turned to see Jean storming over to the crystal. While they should have stopped him, Kuroko gestured to let him. It was obvious he needed to blow off some steam. He then drew one of his blades and began to stab at the crystal. The crystal chipped, but it barely looked like it did damage. The blade was taking more damage instead.
The teen continued to stab it even as his blade continued to get smaller. Kuroko understood what he was going through. He too was angry. Angry he could not avenge his fallen friends. Angry for the amount of destruction they brought. Angry for the lack of answers. He used Jean's frustration to mitigate his own.
When his blade was finally used up, Jean stopped, but he remained angry.
"Damn it! All the shit we've been through and this is what we get? Annie, wake up! Face the music! You owe us that much!"
Before he could say anything else, a hand was placed on the teen's shoulder. The four soldiers were surprised. They had not noticed anyone walk to him. When they finally did, they noticed it was heavily injured Scout.
"Isn't that…" Kuroko trailed off.
"Hey! What's the… big idea? You've got… a lot of nerve… to yell at my girlfriend. If you got a problem, take it up with… me."
Aomine and Akashi's eyes widened. His slow speech allowed for them to more easily hear what he said. They were surprised to hear girlfriend come from him mouth. Connor and Kuroko, however, finally recognized who it was.
"Kassmeyer?"
"Girlfriend?" Aomine and Akashi said at the same time.
Josh looked around to see all the people surrounding him. When he locked eyes with Kuroko he stiffened a bit.
"Relax, kid. You've had a rough day."
Josh shifted his gaze to the crystal and saw Annie encased with it. His eyes widened in realization a bit. "Right… Annie's the Female Titan."
"If it means anything to you, sorry for how things turned out," Jean said.
Kuroko watched as he began to converse with his fellow cadets. Despite his sadness, there was still a bit that realized that it was the truth. Standing before him was not the recruit that would not believe a word about Annie being the Female Titan. At the same time, he did feel sorry for him. Having a good thing in the world they lived in was treasured source. Josh was lucky he found it. But it also proved that this world was a cruel place. Kuroko let out a sigh as he turned his attention back to the crystal.
"Kassmeyer, was it?"
Kuroko turned instantly as he recognized the voice. He saw Akashi walking towards him with Aomine. He knew exactly what was going on.
"What do you want?" Josh asked over his shoulder.
"Well, we just learned about your relationship with Annie Leonhardt and wanted to ask a few questions," Akashi said.
"How is that your business?" Josh asked in an annoyed tone.
Akashi fought the urged to reprimand him for talking back to superior officer. Aomine, meanwhile, stifled a laugh.
"Like I said, I'd like to ask you some questions."
"Relax, kid," Aomine said. Josh turned his gaze to him. "I was your girl's CO for the escort mission. I just want to know some things."
"You can trust him, Josh."
Everyone turned towards Kuroko.
"But, Captain…"
"You can trust Daiki. If it helps, I'll join you," Kuroko said.
It took a moment, but Josh relented with a nod. He moved to Kuroko's side, as the Oriental became his support.
"Let's get you fixed up first," Kuroko said. "Connor, while I'm gone you're in charge until Satsuk get's back."
Connor nodded in response.
—
A few days later…
The devastation to Stohess was almost indescribable. Much of the buildings in the district where there fighting took place were destroyed. Red lined the streets as families cried over the ones they had lost. Some people were lucky to recover the dead. Others were just red stains under rubble.
Because of the destruction, Erwin was called in by the officials in Stohess to answer for what he had done. Present at the meeting was Akashi, as he was the leader of the military police stationed there. Despite defeating and capturing the Female Titan, they had nothing to really show for it. Annie was encased in a crystal, so no answers could be gained from there. The only real benefit of the whole operation was the discovery that humanity had enemies within the walls. However, that would serve to become very literal.
After his debriefing with the MP's, Kuroko had to meet with someone else: their stowaway on the operation, Aline Holde. She was a member of the 104th Cadet Corps and close friends with Josh Kassmeyer; their plan B. Despite still recovering from his battle against the Female Titan, he was cleared for returning to service. That meant dealing with the recruits.
He let out a breath before entering the room where the girl was. He knocked on the door and announced himself. When he opened the door, he saw Aline sitting close to Josh. He had been heavily injured during the fight. His body was covered in bandages. How he was alive both surprised and impressed him. However, Aline did not seem to notice him enter.
"Is he doing any better?" Kuroko asked a she closed the door.
Aline let out a breath and sat up. "He wakes from time to time. Drinks water then passes out again."
"That's better compared to a few days ago," Kuroko said.
He walked for to the injured boy's bed and placed a hand on his forehead. It was warm, likely that he still had a fever. He turned to see Aline returning to her hunched over position.
"I know why you're here."
"Then that'll make things easier. Why?" Kuroko asked as he crossed his arms.
"Because I had to, alright?" She snapped.
Kuroko rose an eyebrow, causing for Aline to settle down.
"Something was off when I saw Josh, Jean, and the others joining the team to come here. So I snuck myself in," Aline said.
Kuroko let out a breath and let his arms fall to his sides. He walked over to where the girl was sitting and rested against the wall.
"You got a good head on your shoulders, I'll give you that. But you disobeyed a direct order from the Commander." Kuroko's tone was stern, but understanding. He could understand why she had made that decision, but there were still consequences for her actions.
"I…I know that," Aline replied. A bit of guilt was laced in her tone.
"However, no one's going to charge you with insubordination."
Aline turned to Kuroko with a surprised expression. It was obvious she was ready for the punishment that came from disobeying orders.
"With everything that's going on, what you did doesn't matter. I'm just here to make sure you don't do it again."
"Thank you, Captain."
"This is the second time I've had to be the one to reprimand you," Kuroko said holding up to fingers.
"Sorry."
"Don't be. Better me than someone else. People think I'm lenient and they're right," Kurok said with a smile.
Aline half smiled in response. Kuroko was happy that he managed to even out a bit of what was eating at her. Though he could still see something else was bothering her. It was not Annie's betrayal. As that rage was more for Josh than her own. He knew what it likely was, as Hange had told him about her arguments with Mikasa. He wanted it to come from her.
"Is there anything else worrying you?"
"Just Josh, I guess," Aline answered, turning her gaze back to him.
"I see. He's a close friend."
Before she could respond, the door to the room swung open. The two jumped to their feet to see Connor standing there out of breath. There was a panicked look on his face and that caused for Kuroko's worry to grow.
"Tetsuya, you got to come see this! Hange's waiting for you."
Kuroko nodded walked towards the door. He glanced to Aline who was beginning to look panicked as well.
"Stay here," Kuroko ordered.
Aline nodded in response. Satisfied, Kuroko closed the door and followed Connor. His hurried pace was not helping Kuroko calm his nerves.
"What's going on? Where's Satsuki?" Kuroko asked.
"You have to see it for yourself. You won't believe me otherwise. Satsuki's already there."
Kuroko rose an eyebrow, but did not say anything in response. Whatever was making Connor act in such a way meant something had happened. Part of him hoped it was that Annie was no longer in the crystal, but that was a long shot. Whatever it was that had happened was something different and entirely new.
—
"Now I understand why you said seeing is believing."
Kuroko had no idea what he was looking at. He did know as it was plainly obvious. During the fight with the Female Titan he had noticed the holes she was making as she climbed up. It was easy to notice compared to the smooth stone around it. However, some of the stone loosened and chucks of the wall had fallen. Within one of the larger openings a skinless face stared down at them.
Kuroko watched as soldiers were using canvas tarps to cover up the titan within the wall. It would have to do until real repairs could be made.
"At first I thought I was seeing things, but everyone else could see it so that obviously wasn't the case," Connor said.
"Has it moved since you guys found it?" Kuroko asked.
"Its eyes moved once to stare back at us, but nothing since," Connor answered.
"Where's Hange?"
"At the top of the wall, talking with a priest from the wall cult. Satsuki's with her too."
A yell then filled everyone's ears. Everyone on the ground turned to the top of the wall to see someone being dangled. Kuroko could not make out what was being said, but he could tell the person dangling was the priest.
"Oh, boy. Hange's pissed," Connor said.
Kuroko nodded in response. Everyone on the ground could only watch as the priest dangled at the edge. Kuroko wondered if they would do it, let him fall. It did not take long for him to get answer. The priest was pulled back and prevented form falling. Kuroko let out a relived breath and turned back to Connor.
"When did they find it?"
"A few hours ago. They were just starting to set up the tarps when I saw it. Came running to get you not long after. From what I heard, the priest was pretty adamant on not letting sunlight touch. Surprised it hadn't moved in the time since the battle."
"Is that so?" Kuroko mused.
He out a hand on his chin and began to think. This revelation meant that they had more questions than before. However, the only answer Kuroko could come up with was that all the walls had titans inside them. Likely, Hange had figured that out too. Now all that was left was why this was known before. Based on what just happened, the wall cult knew more than they were letting on. Kuroko had to get up to the wall and ask his own question.
Before he could ask for a set of gear, the sound of a bell ringing and the gate opening caught his attention. He was sure the city was on a complete lockdown since the battle. A pit began to form in his stomach. There was cold chill in the air that he could not shake. Then he heard it and his blood went cold.
"Titans have breached Wall Rose!"
AN: With that, this chapter comes to an end. Sorry for being gone for so long, but life got in the way. Regardless, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. The main goal of this chapter was to finish the Female Titan arc, obviously, but also I wanted to showcase Aomine and Kuroko's teamwork. Basically trying to get their light and shadow relationship from KnB to AoT. I think I did it justice with this chapter and I hope to do it more.
Let me remind you guys again, some of the characters present in this story are OCs belonging to Legion117's story Winds of Promise. Some of the plot elements of their characters happen in this one. The most obvious one is the Josh and Annie relationship. That comes form there, so if you wish to know more then I highly recommend reading their story. Another is the Aline character, and the same applied to her. If that breaks this story for you, I'm sorry, but I liked those characters a lot and wanted to bring them into my story.
Something else I changed from canon, was how long it takes the Scouts to notice the face. My reasoning is that the hole in the wall slowly grew over time and wasn't as big as is shown in season 2. This also stems form the the end credit scene of season 1 where the wall breaks and it only shows the eye and a bit of the face. That's just something I wanted to change up.
With all that out of the way, I hoped you enjoyed this chapter. We're moving on to a part I've been looking forwards to writing for awhile now. I hope you look forward to it as well. If you're enjoying this story feel free to follow, favorite, and/or review. Also, check out my Twitter as I post story updates and other stuff on there.
