Regina is sitting alone in the lobby waiting for Dr. Whale. She had left her phone in Riley's stroller and couldn't reach anybody and was too worried to even try to. It's been fifteen minutes since they arrived at the hospital and when they rolled Emma away. Just then, Dr. Whale enters the waiting area where he sees Regina looking out the window and wiping away tears, "Regina?" She turns around quickly and rushes to him, "Dr. Whale! Is she going to be alright?" Regina asked with worry, Dr. Whale nodded his head, "she's going to be just fine," he smiles with confidence. "Her blood levels fell dangerously low which is why she passed out but thanks to your quick action, she and the baby are going to make a full recovery. We're going to do an ultrasound just to confirm that everything is okay." Dr. Whale sees the relief on Regina's face as she says "can I see her?" "Not yet. She's still out and we need to monitor her vitals. I promise when she comes to, I'll let you know." "Thank you, Dr. Whale," Regina said as he walked off to go check on Emma.
Killian and Henry come rushing in, "Regina!" "Mom!" They both run over to her, "Is she alright?" Killian asked. Regina grabbed Killian's hands to calm him, Regina smiles, "yes, Dr. Whale is monitoring her and the baby and they're going to do an ultrasound to make sure everything is okay with the baby. She's stable and still out but they're monitoring her and as soon as she wakes up, Dr. Whale says we can see her!" As soon as Regina, finished, Robin, Snow, and David rush in, "Regina! Where's Emma?" Snow asked in hysterics, Regina calms everyone by letting them know that everything will be okay with her. "Her blood levels fell way too low and she ended up passing out. I rode on the ambulance with her and she was completely out of it. It was scary at first because she was slipping in and out of consciousness but the paramedics were able to stabilize her when we arrived," Regina said with relief and confidence that allowed the whole crew to relax. "Dr. Whale said as soon as she wakes up, we can go see her." They all breathe a sigh of relief and relax by taking a seat on the waiting room chairs.
A nurse walks into Emma's room to check on her, "Emma?" The nurse said in a soft voice. "Emma? Can you hear me, sweetie?" Emma moves her head and slowly opens her eyes, when she comes to, she is looking around to see where she is and starts to panic. "Emma, you're okay! You're in the hospital, you're okay. Calm down." The nurse grabs Emma's hand and holds it in a caring way, "Emma, you're okay. You're in the hospital because your blood sugar was too low so we are helping you get better, okay?" Emma slowly calms herself, "just breathe okay?" She closes her eyes again and regains her composure. After a while, she manages to utter her first words since being emitted, "how is my baby?" The nurse smiles as she continues to hold her hand, "she's fine, Emma. Her vitals are normal and we are going to take an ultrasound so you can see her!" "Where's my husband?" Emma asked as the nurse answered, "he's waiting outside for you but let us get this ultrasound going, and then we will call him in." The technician preps Emma for her ultrasound as Emma drifts in and out of sleep. "You can fall asleep if you want to, Mrs. Jones." The nurse smiled and Emma slowly drifts off to sleep.
Regina and Snow are pacing the floor wondering and waiting. Killian is sitting down and has his hands over his face and tries to rub the worry off while Robin has his head leaning on his own hand with his eyes closed. Henry is looking out the window trying to distract himself. What feels like hours has only been fifteen minutes when everyone arrived, just then Dr. Whale comes out to inform the family. Snow sees him first and calls out to him, "Dr. Whale is my daughter and granddaughter okay?" Everyone gathered around Dr. Whale as he confirmed, "Emma and the baby are perfectly fine." Everyone breathed a sigh of relief as Dr. Whale continued, "We did an ultrasound and the baby is perfectly healthy and was not affected. Emma is doing very well, but she is high risk and is going to need to take it easy from here on out. Bed rest and minimal activity that includes basic housework and no sheriff work until after the baby is born. We are going to keep her overnight just for observation but I see Emma going home as soon as tomorrow afternoon."
"Can we see her now?" Snow asked. "Yes. But two at a time, we don't want to overwhelm her." Everyone looks at Killian but insists that Snow and David go first. Killian pulls Regina aside, "Regina, I just wanted to say thank you. I don't know what I would have done if something happened to Emma or the baby." Regina smiled and grabbed Killian's hands, "of course, Killian! I wouldn't have let anything happen to either one of them."
Fifteen minutes pass and Snow and David emerge from Emma's room and Robin and Henry go in next. Killian wanted to stay with Regina to continue talking to her. "Seriously, Regina, I owe you for saving my wife and daughter. How can I repay you?" Killian saw the appreciation in Regina's eyes, she shook her head and responded, "Oh Killian, you don't have to repay me. I just want you guys to be safe, happy, and healthy. The years I've known Emma, she's always had my best interest at hand, albeit there were times I wanted to choke the life out of her but she was and is the only one that can get through me. Robin turns to Emma when I'm being level headed and she's the only one that can talk some sense into me." Killian lets out a chuckle, "well, if you and Robin need anything, please don't hesitate to ask us."
Robin and Henry walk out of the room and signal for Killian and Regina to walk in, "Regina, Killian, Emma is ready to see you two." They walk-in where they see Emma awake but drowsy and tired. "Emma." Killian leans in for a kiss as he places his hand on her head. "How do you feel, love?" He places his hand on the baby bump and rubs in lovingly. "I feel fine, I'm just tired. They just did an ultrasound on Mia and Dr. Whale said she is just fine and unharmed by anything," they both smiled. Regina walks up on the other side of Emma; she grabs her hand as she takes a seat on the chair next to the bed. "Are you okay, Emma?" Regina asked with a smile. Emma smiled back, "yes." There is a brief silence then Emma speaks, "thank you, Regina." Regina shakes her head and smiled as Emma continued, "I also thought it was sweet when you were crying." Regina's eyes widen, "you do care about me, huh?"
"I wasn't crying! It was…allergies. I was worried about the baby, and…" Emma smiles, "Regina, you were crying and telling me to wake up. I could hear you I just couldn't move or respond."
Regina sat on the chair next to Emma's bedside, grabbed her hand, and held it, "okay, so I was worried. You scared the hell out of me, Emma. I realized we are closer than I thought and I didn't want to lose that. Knowing that you're okay now makes me relieved that you and Mia are fine." They both smile, as Dr. Whale walked in, "Emma! How are you feeling?" "Tired, but feeling good." "Great! Baby Mia is healthy and is developing very well and looks to be a healthy delivery, however," Dr. Whale stands in front of Emma and starts to explain her new routines once she is discharged, "You are going to hit your last leg of your pregnancy in the next coming weeks. You will hit your eighth month although that's nothing to worry about with you, you must refrain from any strenuous activity, that includes simple things such as walking, standing, even sitting down for too long, so with that being said, I am requesting that you remain in bed rest for the next six weeks, only trips to the bathroom and back to bed, no excuses."
Emma is surprised, "but what about my job at the sheriff's office?" Killian responds, "I've been talking to your parents and they agreed to take on your role until well after Mia is born." Emma tries to find another excuse, "Henry. He has school projects coming up, Regina and I have meetings scheduled…" Regina cuts in, "you don't worry about any of that, Robin, I and Killian will handle all of that, I'll come by your place and make sure everything is fine while Killian is at work." Killian shakes his head in agreement, "that's right. I'll try to see if I can get the last couple of weeks off from work so that I can stay with Emma until our Mia gets here. Emma will be in good hands."
It's been a week since Emma was released from the hospital but she has been stubborn about staying in bed as Dr. Whale requested. Although she has been resting, she hasn't been able to stay in bed for more than an hour. "Emma!" Killian uttered firmly, "what the hell are you doing up?" He walks up to her and escorts her to the couch. Emma rolls her eyes and huffs, "Killian! I'm bored, my back hurts, and I'm getting irritated by just being in bed all day! Ugh! Can I at least lay on the couch and watch TV? I need a change of scenery!" "Okay, but only for an hour, then it's back to your bed," Killian said in a firm tone. Emma rolls her eyes, "Now I know how Henry feels."
As Killian gets Emma comfortable on the couch, his phone rings. He looks at the caller ID and notices that it's his boss. "What is my boss calling me for?" he answered the phone,
"Hello?"
"Killian!" His boss greeted.
"Hi, what's up?"
"Hey, I have an assignment for you but it's out of town."
"How far out of town, Jack?" Killian has a confused look on his face.
"Boston."
"Boston? What kind of work?" Killian asked as he sat next to Emma.
"Killian, the harbor in Boston has taken on a project that's slightly bigger than they are and they're asking for help from the highest performing harbors in New England and they picked you and I. They're installing new docks and their supervisors are not as well trained as you and I are and they've asked us to train them."
"For how long, Jack?"
"Four to six weeks."
"I'm sorry Jack, I can't be away that long. Emma is too far along with this baby and she needs me here. She's been given doctor's orders to stay in bed."
"Oh, that's right. You've got a new addition coming your way. Damn it. I mean, congratulations and all but this is an opportunity for both of us."
"Why can't you go?"
"They want both of us or nothing. How can I convince you? Did I mention the $25,000 stipend they are willing to give us if we take the job? I'm sure that could be of good use for you and the new family!"
Killian's eyes widen, he puts his hand on his forehead and rubs it. Emma looks on with a curious look on her face as Killian continues, "God, Jack, I don't know. I'm worried about Emma." There is a brief pause then Jack speaks, "understandable, let me see what I can do for you, Killian. I'll call you soon." "Okay, thanks, Jack. Please let me know," Killian hangs up the phone, and Emma is the first to talk, "what was that all about?" "That was Jack, my supervisor. He said he had a project for me that's worth $25,000." Emma's eyes widen as she blurts out, "Take it! It's $25,000, Killian!"
"Emma, it's for 4-6 weeks."
"Oh," Emma smirked. "Well…I mean… $25,000 could be useful. Mia could benefit from it." Emma rubs her baby bump to convince Killian.
"What are you saying, Emma?"
"Mia won't be here for seven weeks, according to Dr. Whale, so you will be back in plenty of time!" Emma said convincingly.
"Emma, are you sure? I don't want you by yourself."
"I'll ask my parents if they can stay here or I can stay with them. They won't mind."
"Okay, then, I guess I'll let Jack know tomorrow. Only if you're sure." Killian rests his head on Emma's shoulder and she reassures her worried husband, "I promise, Killian. I know you're only a phone call away. Besides, Boston is only four hours away so you won't be that far." Emma kisses him to ease his worries and they head off to bed.
"What are you talking about, Richard?" Robin is on the phone with his boss when Regina overhears the conversation. She can hear the growing frustration in Robin's voice. "Four to six weeks? I can't be away that long! My wife is pregnant and she's already 7 ½ months! I'm not missing the birth of my daughter!" Robin notices Regina and forces a smile as he's listening to his boss, "no! Okay, look, at least meet me halfway. I'll do no more than two weeks. Can't I send my assistant manager instead?" Robin pauses to listen for a response. "Ok, fine. Let me know either way." Robin hangs up the phone and lets out a frustrated sigh. Regina sees the building worry on his face, "Robin? Is everything okay?" Robin walks up to Regina, "it's my district manager, my boss Richard. He wants me to train their new Forest Manager in Virginia."
"What? Why?" Regina asked.
"I'm one of the only managers in the district that is not only highly trained but also certified and my boss talked me up to their branch there and they want me to work with them for four to six weeks to administer this training."
"But I need you here, Robin! How are we…" Regina is interrupted by Robin's ringing phone; he puts him on speaker so that Regina can listen in.
"Hi Richard, well?"
"Robin, I tried." Richard continues as Regina and Robin show their disappointment in each other's faces, "They wanted to extend it to eight weeks but then I told them about your wife and they agreed to stick with the four to six-week time frame. I went as far as telling them that Regina is 7 ½ months along and they wouldn't budge because they have scheduled ahead for their trainee to be available for no more than the full six weeks. They wanted to keep you two extra weeks because they wanted to see if you could shadow him for the first two weeks after training but as an option."
Robin and Regina shake their heads in disappointment as Robin tries to get convinced, "Geez, Richard, well…I guess since I don't have much of a choice. Are you sure there aren't any other managers in our area?"
"Nope. I checked. Wait!" Richard expressed with excitement, "did I mention they are willing to pay you 25% more than what you're getting paid? They are also going to provide food and housing as well as transportation." Robin and Regina's eyes widen and a convinced smirk graces their faces, "I don't know, Richard, can I talk to Regina about it?"
"Of course! I'll tell you what, let me give you their number, you call them, tell them who you are and I guarantee you that they will work something out with you." Regina hands Robin a notepad and pen and Robin writes the number down, "thank you, Richard, I'll get back with you after I've spoken to them." He bids his goodbyes to Richard and hangs up the phone. "Robin, how do you feel about this?"
"What do you mean?"
"I don't want to hold you back if you want to take this job on, I understand! Besides, the extra money they're willing to offer you could help us!"
"Darling, honestly this is an opportunity of a lifetime but you and the baby are my priority." Robin lovingly cups Regina's face and places a kiss on her forehead. "Well, just call them and see what they say. Take it!" Regina said lovingly. Robin smiles, "let's see what they say first and we can decide then." Robin calls the number and puts it on speaker so Regina can also listen in, "Virginia State Forestry, this is Merida, how may I help you?" Robin and Regina are taken aback by the strong Scottish accent that Merida has and they smile, "Hi, Merida, this is Robin…" Before Robin could finish, Merida expressively interrupts, "Robin Hood! Yes! We have been expecting your call, Mr. Hood. Let me transfer you over to our director!" There is a brief pause for a couple of seconds when they are startled by a loud expressive and friendly voice, "Mr. Robin Hood! Hello! John Clayton, Director of Virginia Forestry, how are you?" Robin and Regina smile as Robin answered, "Hello, Mr. Clayton. I'm good. I believe my supervisor has been in contact with you?"
"That he has, my good man! And what do you say to it?"
There is a brief pause; Robin and Regina look at each other and try to make a quick decision, Robin starts to utter a sentence, "uh, well, it's just that my wife…" he is interrupted by Mr. Clayton, "Regina!? Is she there? May I speak to her?" Robin grows a perplexed look, "uh…yeah, she's right here," Robin points to the phone for Regina to speak, "Hi, Mr. Clayton, this is Regina." "Regina, my dear, congratulations on your new bundle of joy, I understand that you're concerned about Robin being away from you which is quite understandable!" Regina responds, "thank you, Mr. Clayton. I have a question."
"Of course, my dear, shoot."
"Well, exactly how long will Robin be gone? I'm 7 ½ months along and I want him to be there when the baby is born."
"Ahh! Here's what I'm going to do, I plan to keep him no longer than six weeks, but here is where I'm going to help you two out if Robin starts as soon as Monday of this coming week, my company and I will fly him to and from Storybrooke. He will be on standby and as soon as you call, Robin will be flown that same day over to you with no hesitation!" Regina is intrigued and convinced as her eyes widen. She shakes her head in approval and Robin smiles, "Regina if you approve, I'll add 15% to Robin's compensation for you and the baby, 40% total! What do you say?" Robin and Regina both nod in agreement with big smiles on their faces, "Yes, I'll take it!" Robin said convincingly, "thank you, Mr. Clayton!" "Awesome! Consider it a gift! Robin, I'll see you Monday morning! Regina, you take care of yourself and the baby, my dear!" "Thank you, yes sir!" Regina smiles and Robin ends the call. "I guess you better start packing!" Regina said smiling.
It's the weekend before Robin and Killian depart for their temporary projects away from home. They meet at Granny's for some drinks and to discuss their next few weeks. Killian opens the conversation about Emma, "I'm just worried about her being by herself being a high-risk pregnancy. We've asked Snow and David but since Emma is not working at the Sheriff's office at the moment, they've been overwhelmed with cases and they're not home as often during the day." Robin responds after taking a drink of his beer, "I understand. I feel the same about Regina but I think she'll be okay." As Robin takes a swig, Killian's eyes widen with an idea.
"Emma and Regina get along pretty well wouldn't you say, Robin?" Killian asked.
"For the most part, I've caught them bickering like sisters. Emma has come to me to out Regina on things." Robin said as he took another swig.
"Really? Regina's done the same but I just tell her that I'll talk to her and they seem to forget about it."
"Yeah. I tell Emma the same."
Killian brings up his idea, "you think they could handle each other for the time we're gone?" Robin grows interested, "what do you mean?"
"I mean if Emma can be Regina's new roomie? That way they both won't be alone." Killian takes a drink of his beer as Robin ponders the idea. "I think you may have something there, Killian. Regina is firm enough that if Emma doesn't comply with Dr. Whale's orders, I see her enforcing them. Besides, the kids are there to keep Emma company, I agree! I'm sure Regina would love to have Emma live with her for the next six weeks!"
"What the hell was wrong with you when you agreed to this, Robin?" Regina huffed as Robin tried to calm her down, "Regina, calm down. It will ease Killian's worries and besides, the kids would love to have her around! It will also ease my worries about you being by yourself with the kids!" Regina is still not amused, her arms are crossed and her lips are pursed, "what's wrong with, Emma?" Robin asked. Regina releases her arms and sighs, "there's nothing wrong with her she's just…Emma. I don't have anything against her. Anymore, anyway. Well, she does steal my stuff!" Robin closes his eyes as he shook his head. "I think you two will be okay." Robin smiled and goes to kiss her. "I guess she can sleep in Riley's room. We can bring out the rollaway, I'll make room. Riley can sleep in our bed." Regina smiled in agreement.
"Seriously Killian! Why? What were you two thinking?" Emma scolded Killian at the thought of bunking up with Regina for the next four to six weeks. "Emma, it's a good idea and it will put me and Robin at ease so that we won't have to worry about you two! Your parents are already overwhelmed with at the sheriff's office and I didn't want them to have to worry about you!"
"I don't need a babysitter!" Emma uttered. "Regina's not going to babysit you, Emma, she's going to be there to help you!" "Help me into insanity! Do you realize that she's going to put me on a schedule and treat me like a child?" Emma uttered. Killian rolled his eyes and shook his head, "that means she cares about you, Emma. Besides, what's wrong with Regina?"
"Nothing. She's just Regina. Ugh! I guess if she's okay with this then I guess I have no choice." Emma said as she sighed. Killian walks up to her and kisses her. "You'll be alright, love." He looks down at Emma's chest and notices a necklace that he doesn't recognize. "When did I get you this?" Emma looks at the necklace that Killian is observing. "Oh, it's Regina's, she doesn't know I borrowed it, I have to sneak it back when I get to her house. I told her I needed to borrow one she just never said yes or no."
