Chapter 20 – Lifetime

I heard the clamoring of the wedding bells. The wedding song was also currently being played by the musicians. It's my signal to walk down the aisle together with my aunt and my cousin. I can see familiar faces but not too many because we only invited few people to maintain the solemnity. I saw my friends, Kei's family, and his friends. They're all looking at me while waiting for me to pass by. Tears fell from my eyes. We're finally here, we're finally having our happy ending. All those sleepless nights and heartbreaks vanished, all I can think of is Kei, waiting for me at the altar. When I came close to him, I also saw him crying. I didn't expect that he'd cry on our wedding. I thought he's not used to expressing emotions in front of many people.

I smiled as he reached my hand. I accepted it and we walked to the altar. Our wedding ceremony started. After a few minutes, we were asked to exchange our vows. Kei spoke first. "Misaki, eversince I saw you, I always knew that you have something special and you can change my life for the better. I wasn't wrong. You changed everything when you came into my life and that's when I realized that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. We've gone through many hardships but it didn't break us, I'm glad that we stayed until the end. I promise to devote myself in our marriage and our future family." I couldn't help but shed a tear again. He wiped my tears before I speak up. "Kei, we always believe that it's fate who brought us together everytime we parted ways. I'm really lucky that I met you. You're the definition of love for me and I couldn't ask more for a better partner. I promise to devote myself in our marriage and our future family." After we exchanged vows, the ceremony continued until we were announced as husband and wife.

The memories were still fresh in my mind. It's been a couple of years since Kei and I got married. We've been promoted in our jobs too, I became the Head Medical Technologist while Kei became the Assistant Head. We renovated Kei's house before we moved in after marriage, while my house was given to my aunt and my cousin. Our wish came true because I already gave birth to a beautiful baby girl and baby boy. They're twins so we didn't have something to argue with because we wanted different genders. The girl was named Michiko while the boy was named Akihiro. They both inherited their father's hair color while they inherited my eye color. They're both 1 and a half years old.

"Mama!" Michiko called. I lifted her up while her brother was quietly playing with his toy cars. They weren't like the other noisy toddlers. They're both prim and proper, they don't whine too much. "Do you want milk, Michiko?" She gave me a small nod. I kissed her forehead before getting her milk powder. "How about you, Hiro?" Hiro looked at me with confusion. His mouth was slightly opened while a drool is slipping from his mouth. He's so cute. "Mama.. milk.. want.." I nodded in approval. I put Michiko down and told her to play with her brother first as I make their milk.

Being a mom of twins is more than 'hard'. It could be a disaster sometimes but it's stress relieving when you admire your children. As parents, Kei and I made more adjustments than being a married couple. We learned how to sacrifice our sleep, energy, and time for our kids. We rotated our shifts because it's important to leave one of us at home. Since we're both heads at the hospital, one is enough to lead the others. Our co-workers also understood us since we have twins. But whenever there are important meetings, we leave the twins to my aunt. It's very tiresome but worth it since we have little ball of sunshines at the end of the day.

"Hello, where are my lovely babies?" I heard Kei's voice so I turned around. His shift ended and I'm glad that he got home when the kids were still awake. Sometimes, we come home late that the kids were already asleep. "Papa!" Both of our kids raised their arms up. Since Kei is strong, he could lift the both of them at the same time, so that's what he did. He kissed the both of them while our kids giggled. I always look forward to this sight at home because I almost forget that I'm tired. "Have you been good to Mama?" The twins nodded. "Yeah! Hiro.. good!" Hiro punched his fist in the air while Michiko clapped her hands. "Me too! Me too!" She added.

"Alright, because you've been good kids to Mama I have something for the both of you." Their eyes sparkled as soon as Kei mentioned that he has something for them. "Tada! I got you gummy bears in different colors!" They almost drooled as they saw the gummy bears. They also like sweets like us. "Gummies! Techu (Thank you), Papa.." The twins kissed him as he pat their heads. "Eat that later. You have to drink milk first, okay?" They nodded vigorously and accepted the milk that I made for them, then they returned to playing with their toys.

"And.. how's my other baby?" I immediately blushed as he hugged me and buried his face on my neck. "I'm not a baby anymore, Kei. I'm fine, it's not too tiresome today since they just slept all day." He hugged me and kissed my forehead. "You did a great job today, Misaki. Thanks for taking care of our twins. Rest on the couch, I'll prepare the food after I changed my clothes." I smiled as I watched him leave. I went to the couch where my twins were playing.

Kei has really been thoughtful especially after I gave birth. The doctor said to us that I'll be experiencing post partum depression, so I will sometimes feel sad or stressed for no reason. The doctor advised Kei to be more understanding and sensitive about me. He really follows what the doctor says so he always look out for me and makes sure that I'm feeling okay. Kei's been a great husband and father. I couldn't wish for more since I know he's really doing his best.

Kei went down from the second floor and started preparing our dinner. He clearly said that I shouldn't make dinner because it's his turn to cook now that I took care of our kids. I leaned my head on the couch to rest for a bit.

I didn't notice that I fell asleep until Kei woke me up. "Misaki.. dinner's ready." I rubbed my eyes before opening it. I guess I got tired a little bit. I looked around but my kids weren't on the carpet and their toys weren't there as well. "Where's Michiko and Hiro?" I asked. "They got tired of playing so they asked me to tuck them to bed. I waited until they both fell asleep then I fixed their toys. I didn't wake you up since I wanted you to rest." I smiled at him. "You're really the best." He booped my nose before pulling me to the dining table. "I know.. that's why you can't get enough of me." I just scoffed at him. The bad side of praising him is he becomes too boastful, but it's alright, it's still the truth.

I smelled the aroma of the food. Pork cutlets and curry! I got hungry immediately. "No need to rush, woman. Unless you wanted to choke." His cooking really improved. He surpassed my level now. I'm proud of him. "That's right. Are we going to your province tomorrow? Mom called me yesterday, she said she wants to see the twins and we should come over if we have no work. Well, I didn't give her a definite answer but we have our day offs tomorrow, so I guess we could come over." Kei nodded.

"Sure. I know my parents and Akiteru miss the twins, we should visit them. My mom will also nag you if you don't say yes." We laughed as we imagined her mom whining. They are fond of the twins because my kids were always cheerful and they easily get along with other people. Good thing they didn't inherit Kei's saltiness.. Just kidding.

The next day, I woke up early to prepare the twins' stuffs while Kei initiated to bathe them. After I fixed their stuffs I decided to cook breakfast. I made some mashed sweet potato for the twins, while I made omurice for me and Kei. I also made okonomiyaki that we'd bring to the province because his family loved the okonomiyaki I made before.

"Mama.. where?" Michiko asked. She's probably confused why we woke up so early and why we were dressed differently. "We're going to Nana, Gramps, and Uncle today." Both of their eyes sparkled. Our kids have a soft spot for them since they were being spoiled sometimes. I always remind my in-laws not too spoil them too much.

After we eat, we started to travel to his province. Kei was the one driving while I was the one looking out for our kids in the backseat. Both of them have their own car seats to make sure that they're comfortable during long journeys. A couple of kilometers passed, then the kids became fast asleep. I took a short video of us and posted it on Instagram. I couldn't help but admire my kids. I still couldn't believe that they were inside my tummy before. My tummy was so big that I had a hard time walking, Kei always assisted me while teasing me saying that I looked like a penguin. I just teased him back that he was like a giraffe to me. He was annoyed not because I called him giraffe, but because I didn't call him dinosaur. He's really weird.

When we reached their house, I woke up the twins and Kei put them in his arms. They were still groggy so they cried as soon as we hopped out the car. "Oh, no.. why are my babies crying?" Kei's mom immediately ran to us and consoled our kids. We greeted each other and led us inside the house. After a while, the twins stopped crying.

"Nana.. Gramps.. Uncle.." The twins mentioned their names as they saw them. "My grand kids are so cute! Come to Nana!" Michiko went to her grandma while Hiro went to his grandpa. "Gramps.. fly! Fly!" Kei's father always play 'Superman' with Hiro wherein he would be wrapped in a cloth then his grandpa would lift him in circles.

We let our kids play with their grandparents while we approached Akiteru. "Long time no see, brother and sis-in-law." Akiteru greeted us. We catch up a little and asked about each other's careers. We heard that Akiteru got promoted and became the manager of the company he's working with. He also said that his girlfriend and him already planned to get married soon. I got excited with the thought that my twins will soon have a playmate.

We spent the day having fun. The twins maintained the energy in this house by showing their skills and by making us laugh. All of us were glad that they came into our lives, they made the dull moments bright. Also, I'm glad that I became a part of the Tsukishimas. After many years of my family's absence, they wrapped me with warmth and showered me with love and care when I came in their household. I'm lucky by being blessed with such great in-laws.

I couldn't help but feel nostalgic. Everything that's happening right now were just my dream before. I almost felt that it was impossible to experience these things but here I am now, living the dream. All of these started with one incident, that's where I became Kei's slave. Little did I know that the incident I've hated so much would become the first step of my fate.

I can now finally say that I'm lucky because I became a slave in the Elite System. If I could turn back time, I still wouldn't change the fact that I turned into a slave.

Tsukishima Kei, I'll forever be a slave of your love... (in a good way, ofcourse)
