Chapter 21
When Klaus got home from his session with Bella, he found his house very quiet and, being used to betrayal and attacks, he was worried for a few minutes before reminding himself that his siblings had their own lives to live, that it didn't mena they had left him.
"Where is everyone?" He asked Elijah who was writing in his diary, sitting on the couch.
"Rebekah is still at school, Finn and Sage are out together, Kol went to check on some ingredients and material he needs for some form of magic he wants to teach Bonnie Bennett later on, I'm, of course, Standing here in front of you. And if your question included the Cullen's, they went out as well to check out the town, maybe even to hunt." Elijah explained.
"Okay. Thank you." Klaus replied quietly before he turned around, aiming for his office.
"Is everything alright Niklaus, you seem troubled?" Elijah asked his younger brother, wondering why he was so quiet all of the sudden.
"I had a session with Bella…" He replied, as if it explained everything.
"She's not like any other women… Are you really serious about her?" He asked Klaus.
"We are. I'd trust her with my life, from the very first time we met I managed to be completely open with her. She was always so trusting, full of life and kind hearted..."
"So, what did she bring up that has you so thoughtful? If you don't mind sharing I mean, I know that this kind of things are supposed to be confidential…" Elijah asked him.
"I don't mind. She knows a member of my birth father's pack, they're not far from here, waiting for me to take my rightful place among them and to be their Alpha." Klaus informed him.
"Your family… You're not going to ignore them are you? They're as much your family as we are." Elijah asked him, only now noticing the new ring on his brother's hand.
"I know they are… I'll go see them, get to know them, probably welcome them in my life… Allow them to stay in the woods attached to the house, on my property." Klaus nodded before he showed his brother his father's ring and told him what Bella told him about the possibility of speaking to his father in a few months.
"I'm happy for you Niklaus, really. I'll never apologize enough for my part in placing this curse on you. I let Mother manipulate me and I'm sorry for it. Just know that I'm here for you now. Whatever you need from me, you'll get." Elijah assured him.
"Thank you brother. Maybe you, too, should go and see Bella. I'm not the only one she can help in our family. I truly believe that she can help us all." Klaus told his brother before he took his cell phone out and dialed the number Bella had given him.
He was nervous but he hid it the best way he could.
A few hours later, Klaus was coming back home from having met up with what was now his pack.
Like Bella had told him, they were waiting for him and had no problem welcoming him as their Alpha. They had kept his father's memory alive through stories and all knew how Ansel had waited for the day he'd finally be able to have his beloved son with him and have him take his place in the pack. Klaus learned that Ansel wanted to give him his birthright, to make a king to werewolves out of him but that his mother had denied them both this happy moments.
"Did they stay where they were?" Elijah asked him when he came home.
"They're packing up and moving nearer to the house. The woods surrounding this house are my personal property after all, might as well let them use it… They don't have much and I was going to order a few mobile-homes for them. Right now they only have two old trailers and a few tents… There's only about 15 of them so we don't need to get that much." Klaus told him.
"Do you want me to go and buy some groceries while you do that?" Elijah offered.
"Thank you brother." Klaus nodded before he left.
Maybe he'd find a place not too far from here who sold what he needed, if not, he'd order them, no matter how long it took for it to arrive.
A couple of the older werewolves had asked him to be changed into hybrids, so they could better protect their packs and better serve him. Klaus told them he'd do it if they still wanted it after having had a few days to think about it. He didn't want them to grow to regret it in a few years.
.
After work, Bella closed up her office, planning on driving to the Mickealson's to have dinner with them and see what Klaus had done for his father's side of the family when she saw Rebekah waiting for her by the car.
"You know that at this stage in the pregnancy, I can still drive on my own, right?" Bella smiled.
"I know, I just don't want you to go alone. You never know what can happen on the road, sister." Rebekah replied with a wide smile, making Bella chuckle and shake her head before she opened her car and drove them both to the Mickealson mansion.
"Ha, the mother to be is here, even prettier than yesterday." Kol exclaimed as soon as Rebekah and Bella entered the house.
"He only compliments other people when he wants something Bella, be careful." Rebekah smiled at her.
"He's only eager to start eating." Elijah smiled.
"So I'm not prettier than yesterday then?" Bella asked Kol with an amused smile on her face.
"Be careful about your answer Brother, she's a hormonal pregnant woman. There is no right answer to this question." Finn joked.
"No one understands me!" Kol dramatically replied before they all went to the living room, where the dinner table was set.
"Don't worry Kol, I'm not hormonal enough to take this the wrong way yet. And if you were fishing for compliments, you are very handsome as well." Bella told him as she walked by him, making him smile widely.
Kol kissed her cheek when he walked by her and Klaus came to meet her, taking her in his arms and kissing her tenderly.
"Before we start eating, I think Finn needs to tell you all something." Sage declared once everyone was sitting down.
"Now? Can't we wait for dessert?" Finn asked her and she shook her head.
"If you don't do this now, you'll find excuses to push it back until it's too late. I know it's not easy but they need to know and you need to tell them." Sage told Finn, who nodded, seeing the truth behind her words.
"What's going on?" Klaus asked, curious and feeling like there was a bad news coming.
"Okay… Here goes nothing… You all remember what Mother said about Freya's death?" Finn asked.
"Yes, she died of the plague." Elijah nodded.
"She lied." Finn replied.
"What? Why?" Rebekah asked and if she was the only one who spoke, they were all wondering the same question.
"Our mother was barren when she first married our father. She went to her sister Dahlia, a powerful witch, for help and didn't care to ask what the price of that help would be. When Dahlia came back to find us, Elijah was just a baby and Aunt Dahlia took Freya. She told our Mother that if she didn't let her take Freya and sacrifice her, she'd take all of us. Me, baby Elijah and any future children our mother would have. Taking Freya wasn't enough of a price for her though and she declared that every first born of our family would have to be sacrificed for as long as our mother's bloodline lived." Finn explained, leaving a dead silence when he stopped talking.
"I'm not sacrificing my child." Bella whispered.
"Of course not!" Klaus said rushing to push Bella behind him.
"I didn't say that because I want to sacrifice that child Niklaus! I explained everything because I believe that we can find a way to stand united and face this fate. I believe that together we can protect your children and maybe even get rid of Dahlia." Finn replied and Klaus obviously believed him because he nodded and went to sit back down on his chair next to Bella.
"But after all this time… She has to be dead, right?" Rebekah asked her eldest brother.
"Dead yes, maybe, but not gone Rebekah. She was more powerful than our mother was, she might be on the other side and probably waiting for the babies to be born to try and take the first born. She might even have found a way to stay alive. When magic is concerned, anything is possible." Finn shook his head.
"Our mother might even try to help her, if only to save us… Unless she decides she wants us dead… Depending on the mood she's in." Elijah added.
"The Gemini coven." Bella said.
"What?" They all asked, looking at her.
"I… Maybe they can help, if we manage to locate active members and to convince them that we can help…" Bella told them.
"I think I've heard of them… They have lots of twins and the ruler merges with his twin and is all powerful, right?" Kol asked her and she nodded.
"May 10th, 1994, they had two pair of twins: The eldest pair were 18, a boy named Malakai and his sister Joe. The youngest are Liv and Luke, they were 4 at the time. Malakai killed 4 of his siblings and tried to kill Liv and Luke and his twin sister sacrificed her magic and her link to her family to send him in a supernatural prison on the other side, one where Malakai is stuck in 1994 and alone. Malakai had no magic of his own and could only borrow other's magic so he can't escape from this prison… Maybe the Gemini coven could help us do something similar with Dahlia…" Bella explained.
"How do you know all of this?" Kol asked her.
"Because she's just that smart!" Rebekah replied.
"I met Joe last year. Isobel is the one who told me to contact her, that she had interesting information. I believe that information is power and can always be useful… Anyway, she could be swayed, convinced to help us… We just need to find out what she wants." Bella suggested.
"Do you know where she is now?" Klaus asked her.
"She's teaching medicine at Whitmore College." Bella nodded.
"Maybe I'll go and introduce myself to her… I kind of have a thing for witches." Kol offered.
"You might want to speak with Damon Salvatore about it first, he has things to deal with at Whitmore as well and you can't go around campus on your own without being careful." Bella shook her head.
"Why?" Sage asked, curious.
"There is a secret society there… They experiment on vampires and Damon was their hostage for a while before he escaped. I'm actually surprised that he hasn't stormed it down yet, maybe he's actually thinking before he acts just this once. I guess therapy is helping him."
"Sage and I will join you then, Kol. Sage told me that Damon was her friend, so we'll help him." Finn offered.
"Just, don't rush this. We have time before we really have to worry about this and getting any of you killed or severely hurt won't help any of us. Having a supernatural doctor around isn't a reason to get hurt or to take risks." Bella reminded them.
"I just don't understand why Mother never told us about this… Why she kept this a secret all this time…" Elijah shook his head as they started to eat.
"What little I know about your mother, I'd say that dishonesty and keeping secrets was her biggest flaw and the source of the majority of her problems. If she had been honest from the beginning, a lot of problems would have been avoided." Bella replied.
"I think you're right. Maybe she was afraid of being left alone if we learned the truth…" Finn suggested.
"Your mother turned her back on magic to marry your father? I mean, if she couldn't do magic to make sure she could have children by herself, then she wasn't using much magic back then, right?" Bella asked Finn who seemed to know the most by being the eldest and the only one Esther had confided in.
"No, she didn't. She only started back on using magic after Dahlia took Freya. Why?" Finn asked her, curiously.
"Well, witches seem to care about family sticking together and being a part of the coven and things like that… Did you or Esther even consider the option that your Mother wasn't really barren but cursed so? That maybe Dahlia cursed her to punish her from straying from magic, to test her and see if she'd go back to magic to get rid of her curse?" Bella asked Finn.
"It would make sense." Kol nodded.
"You might be right… Maybe we can use this to cancel the clause that requires the sacrifice of the first born…" Finn nodded.
"Like a loophole?" Klaus asked and his brother nodded.
"Maybe we can even severe our link to our Mother, separate us all from her bloodline..." Rebekah suggested.
"Okay, until we can find out more about this, why don't we get started on dinner and on lighter subjects?" Bella suggested.
"I agree. Worrying too much about this can't be good for the babies." Elijah nodded.
"Klaus, did you tell your siblings about the pack?" Bella asked her babies' father.
"Only Elijah for now, the others were out." Klaus replied before he informed his siblings about his biological father's pack coming to follow him.
The rest of the evening went on nicely and when they were done, Rebekah went home with Bella. Klaus promised Bella to join her later, saying that he had a few things to do before joining her.
"You know that you could stay with your brothers if you wanted to, right? You don't have to stay with me if you don't want to, I'd understand and I'd be safe, no matter what Klaus thinks." Bella told Rebekah as they climbed the stairs.
"I know, I want to be here." Rebekah smiled.
"Too much testosterone at the Mickealson mansion?" Bella guessed.
"Yep. Sage might be fine with it because she's almost as full of it as the rest of these boys but I'm not and for once, I'm glad to be able to hang out with a girl." The Original sister explained.
"Very understandable. Now, do you want to go upstairs right away or do you want to watch some TV with me?"
"It depends, what are you watching?"
"I have a couple of Once Upon a Time episodes to catch up on, they're on my DVR." Bella told her.
"I've heard something about this show… Sure, it sounds interesting and it certainly beats reading alone in my room." Rebekah smiled.
"Come in then, I'll get us some ice cream to go with it." Bella smiled, guiding Rebekah to her couch.
