So I am not dead. Although I am really sorry that I haven't posted a chapter in so long. I have not abandoned this story and I have no intention in doing it in the future also. I just needed some time for myself but I'm BACKKKKKKK!
A big thanks to all those who didn't give up reading on this story while I was gone. Your reviews made my day when I read them. I have decided the pairings that I want to go with but I am not going to tell that now. That will be a surprise!
I remember reading a review where someone asked me why was Hermione punished too. Well the way I see it, the marauders complained about both Ginny and Hermione to Professor McGonagall because even though it was Ginny who cast the spell, Hermione did nothing to stop her. Besides, both of them being in detention is important for the story because they are soon going to meet an important character there. And yes, I do agree Remus does not deserve going from one menial job to another. He will have to suffer in the beginning but hopefully he'll get a happy ending.
Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter character.
As it turned out, Hermione was right. When the marauders found out the punishment Hermione and Ginny had got, they were not at all happy.
"This is crazy," Hermione and Ginny heard Sirius complain in the great hall in the afternoon "They could be death eaters trying to murder people and all they have to get is a detention."
Hermione rolled her eyes. Sirius was clearly exaggerating about the whole thing. Death eaters trying to murder people? Ginny had just hexed Pettigrew, not killed him.
"Don't you think he is exaggerating a lot now?" Ginny said exactly what Hermione was thinking.
"You're right. But I don't think you hexing Pettigrew is the only reason for that," Hermione said "I think they all are really uneasy about the fact that we know the things about them that we shouldn't. And to be honest, I think we would've reacted the same way if the roles were reversed. I think we should have been more careful."
"We messed up, didn't we?" Ginny said after a while.
"Yeah," Hermione agreed "I think we did. But there's nothing that can be done now, so let's stop worrying about this now."
"You're right" Ginny said "Which class do we have now?"
"Double potions" Hermione said
Ginny groaned "I am really tired of Professor Slughorn asking us to join his Slug club."
When they reached the class, Slughorn told them to brew Skele-Gro as Madam Pomfrey was running out of stock.
Hermione got up to get the ingredients and when she came back she saw Severus making the preparations for the potion, so she started helping him.
Severus always worked in silence, not speaking a word to Hermione in the class. So Hermione was a little surprised when he spoke up, "So, I've heard that your redhead friend had jinxed Pettigrew."
Hermione looked at him "And where exactly did you hear that?"
"From Potter and Black during breakfast," Severus shrugged "They weren't being very quiet, after all. So why did she do it?"
Hermione kept working on the potion "I don't see a reason why I should tell you."
Severus shrugged "Fine, don't tell me the reason. But for what it's worth, I think he deserved it, along with his friends."
Hermione said "Well, it's a good thing then that I'm not looking for your opinion,"
Severus opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted when Professor Slughorn spoke up, "Well, class, I have an assignment for all of you. I am giving you the time till the end of your seventh year to come up with a potion of your own. You will work with your partner for the rest of the year. I should warn you, there are very few students until now who have had the talent to create an impressive potion by the end of their seventh year. So I am looking forward to see how your potions turn out to be." Professor Slughorn looked at Lily, Severus and Hermione when he said the last line.
"So any ideas for the potion?" Hermione asked Severus as they worked on their potion.
Severus shrugged "I'll tell you if you tell me why Weasley hexed Pettigrew."
Hermione looked at Severus "Are you going to let this go?," Hermione realized that Slughorn was coming to check on the potions "Let's just meet in the library tomorrow at six to discuss the ideas for the potion."
Neither of them said anything after that and when Professor Slughorn came to their seat to check their potion he was, as usual, really impressed with it.
After the classes were done, Hermione and Ginny headed for their detention. They were supposed to sort some papers of previous students in different groups. So they went to the class and were surprised to see that they weren't alone there. There was already a girl there, who was sorting the papers. She had long, wavy black hair and brown eyes. She looked like she was either a sixth or a seventh year and from her uniform it was obvious that she was a Ravenclaw.
She looked up from her work when she noticed Hermione and Ginny entering the room, "Hey. Are you here for a detention too?"
"Yes, we are," Ginny replied as she and Hermione started sorting the papers. "I'm Ginny Weasley and this is Hermione Granger."
The girl smiled, "I'm Serena Snow."
Hermione asked "So why are you in detention?"
"You know, bad performance in academics. I used to be a really good student, but lately I'm having a hard time concentrating on my studies." Serena sighed "What about you two? What did you do to land yourself in a detention?"
Ginny figured that there wasn't any harm in telling her the reason "I basically jinxed someone and here we are now."
"Why would you do that?" Serena asked curiously.
"Well...," Ginny didn't know how to explain the whole situation "...let's just say that he made some false accusations against us."
"Then I guess he deserved it." Serena shrugged as they went back to sorting the papers.
The detention wasn't too bad once Hermione and Ginny got to know Serena. Apparently she was a muggleborn who was really funny, smart and very interesting to talk to.
After a while Ginny asked her, "You mentioned earlier that you were having trouble with your studies, didn't you? Why's that?"
Serena sighed, "Well, I have a brother. He's 19. It's just...I got a letter from my parents last week. They said that three days before that he went to visit his friend, but he never came back. No one has been able to contact him. Everyone back at my home is looking for him but there's no sign of him."
"I'm sure he is going to be okay." Hermione tried to reassure Serena.
Hermione and Ginny managed to lift up Serena's mood by telling her some of the pranks that Fred and George used to play on everyone. After they had completed their work, they decided to leave.
"So are you guys going to Hogsmeade?" Serena asked.
"We're not sure." Ginny said
"Oh, come on, it will be fun. We three can go together!" Serena suggested
Hermione and Ginny looked at each other. "Well, okay. Seems like a good plan." Ginny said
Lily and the Marauders came back to the boys dorm after they saw Hermione and Ginny leave for their detention.
James was continuously pacing without saying a word.
When Lily finally had enough she exclaimed, "Can you please quit the pacing, James? It's really annoying"
James finally stopped and turned to her "You know what's annoying? How Hermione and Ginny are getting away with all of this. Can't Dumbledore see? They cannot be trusted. They know things they shouldn't. Even if the somehow figured out about Remus being a werewolf, we never told them about us being animagi, then how did they know?"
"James does have a point," Sirius said "How do we even know that every thing they've told us until now is even true or not? for all we know they could've lied to us about everything."
"Well one thing is for sure," Lily said "We need to find out the truth about them if they are dangerous or not before somebody gets hurt."
So what do you guys think of the chapter? And what are some things that you would like to see in the future chapters?
