Matthew and Peridot were currently hunched over the nest they had made, eagerly awaiting the geodes to hatch. So far nothing happened, Garnet told them they would hatch today but not when and Peridot was becoming impatient …
Peridot let out a huge sigh before falling onto her back. "Why won't they just hatch already! The little clods are hiding from us I can tell!"
Matthew let out a small laugh. "Peridot is okay, they may be clods, but they are Our clods. They'll show themselves eventually!"
Peridot sat up and hugged Matthew from behind. "Do you think we are gonna be good parents?"
(Matthew) "Of course we are Peridot, I know it will be challenging for us, but we aren't alone! We have everyone to help us and the gemlings."
(Peridot) "Lapis still hasn't come around …"
Matthew sighed, he knew lapis was jealous and would hold a grudge but didn't expect it to be for so long. "I know … I'm certain she'll come round eventually; I just don't know when …"
There was a long comfortable silence between the two until one of the geodes began rocking side to side.
(Matthew) "Peridot look! Its heat, they're trying to hatch!"
(Peridot) "Oh my stars, oh my stars! It's happening!"
The little ruby had managed to escape its geode and was now sitting on the floor, her eyes were shut, and she was naked …
Matthew and Peridot couldn't stop staring, it was so cute! She looked exactly like Matthew's mom and the gem was in her left hand. The gemlings began to let out a high pitch cry, Peridot knew what to do, she picked up the gemling and fed it some pebbles until it was full. After the gemling finished eating Peridot on top of a blanket and let her sleep.
It wasn't long until all the geodes started moving, the second one to come was Data, she was a Peridot just like her mom and looked identical to Peridot, the hair and gem placement was the same, the only differences being that she had a few freckles on her face and she had black hair similar to Matthew's. While Data was being fed the next gemling had hatched, it was Paint, another Peridot, this time her gem was in her left hand while her hair was blonde in the shape of a square afro. These two gemlings were quickly and quietly fed and put to sleep next to their older sister, it was down to the last three geodes to hatch.
The next one that came was Jessy, she was unique. She had orange skin with freckles, her hair was an afro but in the shape of a triangle which was a light brown, she was the biggest out of all the gemlings that had hatched but even with her size, she was calm. Her gem placement was on her forehead, it was in the shape of a Peridot gem but coloured red. Peridot and Matthew were stunned with how different she looked from the others but that was to be expected, they were quick to feed her and they add her to the pile of sleeping gemlings, all of which were happily stuck together purring while they slept.
The next gemling to hatch was the runt of the litter, Dotty, she was extremely tiny in compared to the others. She had a square afro that was black, and her gem was on her head, she had little red dots all over her body even some of her face. She was quite aggressive for a runt, as Matthew tried to feed her she kept trying to bite his hand and not the pebbles. She was soon tired out and put with the rest to sleep, the final geode was beginning to hatch, it was stripe, the last ruby.
She had managed to hatch from her geode and fell onto the floor with a thud, she had blonde triangular hair and the gem placement was on her forehead. She tried to eat the nest before Peridot picked her up and gave her some pebbles. Before she was put with her sisters, it was noticed that all over her body were green stripes and she was also the most aggressive out of all her sisters but nevertheless she soon fell asleep.
All of the gemlings were now in a pile sleeping, all of them naked with their eyes shut tight.
The room was now silent with a few purrs coming from the pile of gemlings, they had all come together to keep warm within the nest. Matthew and Peridot looked at them with love in their eyes as they knew they would try their hardest with the gemlings.
It was Matthew that soon broke the silence. "Peridot … I love you and I love what we've made …"
Before he could finish he was cut off by Peridot's lips until she broke away. "I love you too …"
There was a blinding light that filled the room, once it had died down all that remained was a single person. They had orange skin and thick brown hair which kept the triangle shape. Their eyes were covered with a green visor, and their clothes were a mix of both Matthew's and Peridots. It had Peridot's green leggings but Matthew's black trousers on over it, but they were more like shorts on the fusion. The top was an orange tank top which fit the fusion perfectly. Peridot and Matthew just now realised they had fused but before they got a look at themselves they decided it would be best to sleep next to the gemlings, they considered using the crib that Bismuth had built but ended up just curling around the pile of gemlings instead.
Both Matthew and Peridot loved this feeling, they wanted to make it last forever. They didn't know what to call themselves but agreed to figure it all out later …
