The rest of Jane's pregnancy went sailing by. It was finally time to welcome little boy Ethan into the world. Angela got Jane to the hospital quickly calling Maura on the way. "Ma call Maura!" Jane exclaimed. "I am baby I'm doing that right now." Angela says trying her best to keep her daughter calm. "Angela!? Maura answers. "Is everything alright? "Is Jane okay?" "Its time honey." Angela says calmly. "Its time? "What do you mean it's time? Maura answered back. "I'm taking Jane to the hospital shes going into labor!" Angela says with a little more urgency. "Oh, oh my god okay tell Jane I love her and I will meet you at the hospital!" Maura yelled hurriedly. Angela could hear Maura frantically moving around. "Maura honey slow down and breathe." Angela says Maura is heard taking big breaths. "Okay she says I'm on my way!" Maura states before quickly hanging up.
Angela turns back to Jane "Breathe Janie, Maura is going to meet us at the hospital." Angela says taking her daughters hand. "Okay" Jane says between breaths trying to not let on how scared she was. Once at the hospital Angela runs inside and grabs a wheelchair. "Alright baby we are here let's get you inside." Angela says to her daughter.
"My daughter" she tells the nurse "is in labor." "Okay" replys the nurse. "Just sit tight for a few minutes so we can get her into a room." At this point Jane is having another contraction. "Ma! Where's Maura?" Jane says loudly only to hear her sweet wife's voice answer. "I'm right here baby." Maura says softly. "I'm right here." For the first time since this started Jane sighed in relief that her wife was there. "Hey Janie" she hears in unison. Tommy and Frankie were both standing there. "Hey guys you didnt have to come here yet." Jane says before another contraction hit.
Once through it Frankie states. "Nope we got the call and came right away theres no way in hell we are missing our nefew being born." Jane smiles lightly. "Thank you." She utters before having another contraction. "When the hell are they putting me in a room.?" Jane demands through her teeth. "Alright we have a room available let's get you there and settled." The nurse says comfortingly. When they get into the room the nurse ask "Is this your first?" While helping Jane into bed and a gown before connecting all the monitors. "Yes, actually it is our first." Maura answers with a smile. "Its okay to be nervous." The nurse says to Jane. "But no need to worry we have some of the best doctors and nurses around." "You are in good hands." The nurse says placing a reassuring hand on Jane's shoulder. "Thank you" Jane says already exhausted. "Now you just relax this next part could take a while but the doctor will be in soon to check on you." "Thank you again." Maura says taking Jane's hand smiling at the nurse.
Once alone Maura leans down and kisses Jane's forehead. "I can't believe he will be here soon"! Maura says with excitement. "I know" Jane replys. "I hope this doesn't take forever." " I dont know how patient I can be." Jane says with a smile. "You are doing great love." Says Maura. Jane gets another contraction this time it's a hard one. "Breathe baby, I'm right here." Maura says rubbing Jane's back and breathing with her. The doctor comes in regularly to check Jane's progress.
Within 2 hours Jane is 4 centimeters dilated. The contractions are happening more and more. "Maura!" Jane says can I have the shot now?. "Of course sweetie ill get the nurse. Maura does just that, the doctor comes and administers the epidural. Jane drifted off to sleep and Maura decided to go talk to Angela and the rest of the family on how progress was going.
Angela stands when she sees Maura. "How is she doing?. Angela ask. "Shes doing great." "She is 4 centimeters dilated. Maura responded. Angela sighs happily. "Is she resting now?" "Can we see her?" "Yes she is resting right now they gave her the epidural." "Why dont you guys head home for a bit and rest it may be awhile before she goes any farther." "I can always call you when it gets a little closer." Maura says. Angela replies "Maura honey I know you mean well but I dont think any of us will get any rest." Maura sighs "I understand." She says with a smile. "I better get back to Jane."
When Maura enters Jane is moving around. "Jane what are you doing?" Maura ask concerned. "The doctor said sometimes it helps to walk around." Jane answers back. "Where were you?" Jane asked. "I went to the waiting room to check on everyone while you were asleep." "I tried to tell them it could be awhile that maybe they should go home and rest and would call them when it got closer." "But they all refused." Maura says. Jane chuckled. "This is my mothers first grandchild and my brothers first nefew." "There is no way you are going to get them to leave." Jane says laughing. "I suppose you are right." Maura says with a smile.
After more 4 hours Jane is finally fully dilated. "Well" the doctor says it's about time to start pushing. When Jane is qued to start pushing Maura sits behind her with her arms on either side for Jane to use. "You got this baby." Maura says encouragingly. A few more pushes and the doctor announces that he can see the head. Jane is wearing down "I cant." She says to Maura tears streaming down her face. "Yes you can love you are doing great!" Maura says moving a few hairs from Jane's sweaty face. "Alright you have to give me a few more big pushes" the doctor states.
"Come on baby, you can do this I'm right here." Jane gives a few more big pushes and for the first time they hear the cries of there new born son. Once the umbilical cord is cut the nurse hands the baby to Jane. "Oh Jane hes beautiful!" "You did great baby." "Look at our son." Maura says tears rolling down her face. "We did good" says Jane. With a huge smile. Maura kisses Jane's lips soft but sweetly. "I love you Jane." "I love you to Maura." Jane hands there baby boy to Maura. "Hi Ethan" Maura speaks softly to her son. "Its really really great to finally meet you." Jane smiles happily at the sight of her wife and there son. A little while later they hear a soft knock on the door.
"Can we come in?" Angela ask softly. "Yeah Ma come in." Jane says getting herself comfortable. "Hey sis" says Frankie leaning over to kiss his sister on the check, followed by Tommy. Angela ask "okay where's my grandson?" Maura is already walking across the room to her to let her hold her grandchild. Angela grasps "oh my lord!" Janie, Maura! You guys hes precious." Angela holds him awhile and then he gets passed to Frankie and then Tommy who was nervous. "Come on Tommy" Jane says. "Hold you're nefew hes not a ticking time bomb!" Jane says laughing. "I just dont want to hurt him hes so small." Tommy says.
Jane could only smile and shake her head. It was funny to see her brother so nervous to hold a baby. Tommy sits on the edge of the bed. "Tommy" Jane says "Its okay, I trust you" Jane says with a reassuring hold on his shoulder. Once Tommy is holding the baby Angela starts snapping pictures. "Ma really?" Says Jane. "I look like hell." "You just had a baby Jane." Frankie says. "You have a reason to look worse then normal." Frankie says laughing. "Maura slaps him in his arm. "Ow" Frankie says. "You are a bad influence, you have Maura doing your dirty work now." He says smiling. "Alright everyone the nurse says when entering the room. "Its time for mommy and babys first feeding." "Well that's my que." says Frankie "Yeah mine too!" says Tommy. "We love you sis" Tommy says before leaving. Frankie gives his sister a kiss on the head and says "you did good sis, hes beautiful." "Thank you bro" says Jane with a smile.
After the feeding Jand and Maur spent some time holding him then laid him down so they could hold each other. Maura climbed into bed with Jane. Jane wrapped her arms around her wife as the both lay watching there son sleep. "He really is beautiful." Maura mutters. "He takes after you." Jane says with a smile. Jane knew Maura wanted to google mouth but she also knew that this was there son, the two of them. Jane whispers to Maura. "It doesnt matter how he was brought into this world all that matters is that we are his mothers, the both of us." "So if I want to say he is beautiful like his mother then he is in fact beautiful like you." Jane places a soft kiss on Mauras cheek.
After awhile they both fell asleep unbeknownst to them Angela snuck in a captured a picture of them with one of Mauras hands holding Jane's and her free hand out stretched to the baby's crib. "I'm going to frame this for them" Angela thought to herself.
After two long days Jane and the baby are both released to go home. Maura grabs the bags and Jane has the baby in his carrier. Once in the car Jane sighs. "You ready to go home love?" Maura ask smiling. "Oh god am I ever!" "I miss our bed!" "And really food." Jane says laughing. "Of course you would miss real food." Maura days jokingly. "Well let's get you two home." Maura replies. Once they arrive home Jane grabs the bags while Maura takes the baby. "Look little man." Maura says sweetly. "Your home."
"You are way to cute when you talk to him." Jane says giving Maura a quick kiss on the cheek. Once settled everyone comes over for family dinner. Everyone takes a minute to hold the new addition, laughs are shared also hugs and kisses. Jane wraps her arms around Maura from behind. "I love you Maur." "That's our son." Jane says sweetly to her wife. "I love you to Jane I love the sound that comes with the family. "I never thought I would be as lucky to hear this house so full of laughter and love." "I would change a thing." Maura says squeezing Jane's arms. "This is a new beginning of the rest of our lives." Jane says smiling.
Two weeks pass and even tho Jane hates the thought of leaving there son she really wants to get back to work. Jane and Maura have a long discussion about it and came up with a plan. "If both of us are going to be working we have to make time for each other and our son." Maura says. "Of course! You two are my soul reason to make sure I come home everyday." Jane states. "And no more putting yourself purposely in danger always wait for backup.!" Maura demands. "Jane promise me!" "Maur, baby" Jane goes to speak but gets cut off before finishing.
"Jane please promise me you will be careful." Jane walks over to Maura who is holding there son. Wrapping her arms around them both "Maura I promise I will be careful." "And wait for backup?" Maura mentions again. "And wait for backup." Jane says. "Thank you." Maura says happily. "Now we need to work a schedule for who will watch Ethan when we get call outs." Maura states. "Well that's not a hard one." Angela says walking into the kitchen. "I'll watch him for you." "I mean after all I am his grandmother." Angela says smiling at the baby. "What about your job ma?" Jane ask. "I had Korsak fill my position for the time being." "So I'm free to help." Angela says. "But ma!" "That's your job, you love your job we cant ask you to do that." Jane says.
"Well for one you didnt ask me to do that I choose to do this to help you two out." "And secondly yes I love my job but I love my family more." "I want to do this." Angela says holding the baby. "Well thank you Angela." Maura says. "Yeah ma thank you it means alot." States Jane. "No need to thank me girls." "I love you both and my grandson so this no problem whatsoever." Angela says. Over the next few days Jane spent so time getting everything ready to get back to work. Jane and Maura spend so much needed alone time together before setting into a new but old routine.
