Chapter 20: The Brighter the Light...
Naruto looked around confused, where was he? What was going on? This wasn't Wave, hell this wasn't anywhere Naruto was familiar with. He was standing in what appeared to be the living room of a log cabin. He could see a couch, a comfy looking chair and some weird metal box in the corner, it had black and white pixels on it and it was making a static-like noise.
As the static noise became clearer so to, did the muffled sound of talking, Naruto's attention was drawn to two figures talking, one was a pale skinned man with bright lime green eyes, wearing some weird looking clothes and a vest. The other one was about 6 feet and had short, spiky, black hair and blue eyes. And from this angle he could see...whisker marks? 'Wait is that me?' He couldn't tell what they were saying but then their voices became sharp and clear.
"I can't stop you from doing this, not without nuking this planet and everyone living on it. But please listen to me! If you do this then you'll be walking down the same road that Mari saved you from!"
The other figure laughed and walked over to a closet and opened it. He dawned a dark green cloak that was much to big for his body. "Maybe, but I don't care. And however much i enjoyed being the good guy, she was what made it all worth it. I will thank you Naruto, short though it may have been I considered you a friend."
"Please" the older, now identified, Naruto begged "we still can be, you don't have to do this!"
"Yes I do Naruto, and you are much too pure for what is to come next, and those vermin must be brought to justice! So here as a gift and favor for helping me" the guy waved his hand and another vortex opened beside Naruto "leave, we will have our fight later."
Suddenly the older Naruto looked around like he had suddenly remembered something, he looked at the corner, straight at younger Naruto. "Wait I remember, agh-"
The other guy waved his hand and Naruto was flung into the portal as he reached into the closet and younger Naruto looked on in surprise as he donned a jade green fox mask with a wide grin on it. "So you were telling the truth after all, all those years ago." He waved his hand and Naruto's form was outlined in purple "ah there you are. So you knew after all what was to happen Naruto. I wonder where or maybe when you are seeing this from, don't bother trying to say anything, I won't be able to hear you. But this does make me think, did you do try and prevent this, and did it have any direct effect?"
Naruto's mouth was wide open, and he was so confused. What was going on? Was he seeing the future? But Kami had told himt the future wasn't set in stone, it was impossible to know for certain what was coming. Before he could do anything else, the world around him froze and cracked like glass, before shattering into a million tiny shards falling into a massive blue and purple vortex that seem to stretch into infinity.
Naruto screamed as he himself fell into the swirling mass, unable to move, until he landed ...somewhere? He looked around and was awestruck, the place he was this time was so...so...well beautiful didn't even begin to describe it. It was like a long hallway, with pillars supporting the ceiling, the bases of which seemed to be made of pure gold and everything else some form of white marble stone that had a shine to it that gave everything an almost effervescent gleam.
Two figures were also talking, one looked like, well the En-En he had seen almost moments ago, but he (as well as the other figure) were wearing some kind of white robe with purple sashes. The other man had whitish hair and soft purple eyes, and a rather sharp looking chin. "Brother you must stop this madness!" This was said by the other figure.
"Madness?" En-En asked incredulously "look at what Mother has done! She prefers those disgusting mortals over us, her most perfect creations!"
"Mechiael, please listen to reason, Mother would never abandon us to humans all she asked of us was to watch over them."
'Mechael? Is that En-En's real name?'
"Easy for you to say Satanel" the now identified Mechiael snorted "when you are Mother's most precious child. First she gave over Earth to them, and then she let's them into Heaven! And expects us to share it's bounty while we are forbidden to go to their home, without proper reason? Where is the fairness in all of that?"
Satanel looked at Mechiael with sadness and grabbed his shoulder "your anger clouds your judgment brother, if you would only talk to mother, surely she has her reasons."
Mechiael sighed and grabbed Satanel's shoulder "you are probably right brother, I am sorry, it's just-" Mechiael's other hand(his right one) suddenly shot forward, going through and bursting out of the other side of, Satanel's chest. Satanel coughed in surprise, a bright golden yellow liquid coming out of the corner of his mouth.
"Brother? Bu-but why?"
Mechiael hardened his gaze and made a fist and pulled his hand out, Satanel falling to the floor, "because, if you are not with me, than you stand against me. For what it is worth I never wanted it to come to this brother."
'Wait' Naruto thought to himself 'didn't Kami tell me that En-En killed one of his brothers? This must be when he rebelled!'
Again the world froze and cracked and shattered and Naruto was falling again, paralazyed for the time being. 'What is going on? First a vision of the future and then one of the past? Why is this happening? Haku and Lee only saw event's they were a part of. I certainly wasn't around when En-En murdered ..Satanel was it?'
He heard a very faint noise, it broke through th silence of his fall like a dull thud. 'What was that?'
He heard it again, these time barley making out part of it "...to...up." he focused on the noise, and he felt something, like someone was gripping his forearms "Naruto! Wake Up!"
Naruto was jostled awake when a large portion of Water collided with his face. He sat up, choking and coughing his lungs out. He could see everyone looking at Zabuza who looked back "what?" He asked with a shrug "it worked." Kurenai knelt down and helped Naruto clear his lungs, he was shaking and noticed his skin was super pale.
"Naruto, are you alright, we've been trying to wake you up for the past twenty minutes."
Naruto grabbed his forehead, the dreams or visions or whatever they were giving him a headache. "I think so Kurenai, I'm sorry."
"It's fine Naruto, but we're going to have to hurry to meet up with Tazuna's boatman."
Tazuna nodded "yeah sorry. We're far from friends and he made it clear to me that he wasn't going to wait if we don't show up on time."
"Gonna be able to keep up old timer?" Zabuza hefted his sword up "we're going to be traveling faster than you're used to."
"I may look big" Tazuna said cheerfully slapping his belly "but I'll be fine."
"Good, Naruto hurry up and pack we need to be gone in five minutes."
Naruto nodded and quickly packed his tent before sealing it and his sleeping bag into a scroll before dropping it in his bag, and then sealed that up in another scroll which he then sealed onto a storage seal on his forearm. Everyone else was looking at him funny. "What?" Naruto asked "you alll don't put your sealing scrolls in sealing scrolls?" (It's scrollception!)
Kurenai just sighed, more annoyed that she hadn't thought of it herself than anything else. "Anyways we're going to have to hurry"
"Waa, what are you doing?" Everyone looked over to see Zabuza had hefted Tazuna over his shoulder.
"It'll be faster if we run at a ninja's pace, not the fastest a civilian can run pace. Also watch out for my sword, I Keep it sharp."
"L-let me down!"
"Sorry can't hear you over the sound of the wind" Zabuza nodded at Kurenai "let's go."
Kurenai nodded, looked at her students who nodded to her and in unison all five ninja leapt into the treez, with a howling, still hungover bridgebuilder.
All in all it took the better part of an hour to reach the ocean, and just like promised there he was. "Ah Tazuna-san i was beginning to the think you were going to be late."
Tazuna hurriedly stepped into the boat muttering something about saving him from nutjobs. "Right" he said with a sweatdropped and looked over to Tazuna's company "not all of you are going to fit."
"Don't worry about us, we'll be fine."
Naruto and co quickly climbed into the boat, Zabuza and Haku stepping onto the water, following on foot besides the boat. Much of the ride was taken in silence but even though it was his second time, when the bridge came into view Naruto couldn't help but stare in awe. And amidst the fog he heard something.
"Alright fine then, that's what i'll do. I'll tell you a story."
He looked around, "hey did anybody else hear that?"
Hinata looked confused "what do you mean Naruto-kun?"
"I swear I just heard something, somebody talking."
"Probably the fog, has a way of getting to you" Tazuna muttered.
"I didn't hear anything Naruto, but be on the lookout ok?"
"Hai, Kurenai-sensei."
Though he did keep an eye out for danger, the rest of the boat ride pasted uneventfully. Half way through Haku could feel his chakra getting low and opted to switch with Hinata, who legged the last half of the journey, and was panting as she reached the shoreline.
"You didn't have to do that Hinata-san, thank you. Here eat this, it will restore some of your chakra." He passed Hinata some straight edged grass looking plants to Himata who graciously accepted. It tasted like mint slightly, but it did the job, Hinata nodded her thanks. "Its what manufacturers use to produce soldier pills, given time I could Make a nice tea using it."
"Alright Tazuna" Kurenai said "I believe the agreement was we were to stay at your house until the bridge was complete?"
"Aye" he answered "it's about an hour to the town and the bridge should take another week to finish, if all my men stay."
"Oh is man power an issue?" Naruto asked.
Tazuna nodded sadly "I had a bigger crew but most of them left and quit because of Gato."
"Well how many men would it take to speed it up?"
"If I had say twenty men give or take, I could finish the bridge in about a week, week and a half. But unfortunately, no one in Wave is gonna help, again they're all to scared of Gato and his men. I don't blame them though, most of them haven't been in fight their entire lives."
Naruto grinned "twenty men you say, well how about this?" He crossed his fingers and concentrated for a moment before a massive plume of smoke filled the area, and covering most of the dirt path and all of the surrounding trees were filled with clones of Naruto. "Yes!" He exclaimed pumping his fist in the air. That was the most clones he had made since coming back.
Zabuza whistled, he was genuinely impressed. How old was the kid? And he had enough chakra to do that? Not bad at all. "Haku stay with Kurenai and her team, I'm going to go scout out Gato. If you don't hear from me by the end of the day come find me."
"Yes Zabuza-sama."
"Not that I don't mind Zabuza" Kurenai said "but why?"
"In case that Inuzuka comes back while I'm gone. Haku can hold his own."
"Ah I see, Thank you Zabuza."
"Hmph" Zabuza looked over to Tazuna "Gato's mansion is on the other side of the town right?"
"Yup, can't miss it, he built it on top of a hill so he could look down on all of us."
"Great, figures the egotistical bastard would do something like that. I'm off" he waved and walked off.
Haku walked over to Naruto, "I'm impressed Naruto-san. The shadow clone jutsu is not unknown to me, as is it's chakra requirements."
Naruto grinned sheepishly "yeah, I have a lot of chakra. Kinda the only thing I got going for me at the moment."
As Haku and Naruto started conversing about random things ranging from the differences between the Leaf and the Mist to the advantages of using senbon over swords and vice versa, Hinata couldn't help but stare at Haku. Something about him was disturbing her. He had he had taken off his mask which had Ino say how pretty she was, and he responded by saying he was a boy.
But something about the way he walked and talked and acted didn't seem masculine at all. It all seemed effeminate. An easy way to find out if her suspicions were true would be to use her Byakugan, but that would be a huge breach in Haku's privacy, and on the off chance she was wrong and Haku actually was a guy, she didnt feel like seeing another man's junk.
She would watch him or her for now. Haku for his part seemed nice enough.
On Haku's end she didn't like the way the Hyuga was eyeing her. He knew enough about them to know ocne she activated he Byakugan then her whole charade was over. She'd need to be careful around Hinata. Naruto on the other hand continued to be a mystery. She was certain this was the same boy she saw in her dream, but how? She had never seen him before.
And the way he was so ready to talk to her and be friends, it had a sense of familiarity to it, like HE had met HER before. It was all to strange but at the same time...it felt nice. Here was someone who actively wanted to be friends with her.
As the talking continued the small town of Wave came into view. A poor, dishevelled looking thing, it barely deserved to be called a town tho, most houses had visible damage, and though they couldn't see faces what few people they could see walked slouched and with their heads down. Ino gasped "this place looks terrible."
Tazuna nodded somberly "Wave has seen better days to be sure."
"Why did no one fight back? How could you allow this to happen to yourselves?" She asked naively.
"Ino" Kurenai chided.
"It's alright Miss, some of us did fight back young lady. But those brave and foolish enough to stand up to Gato were...swiftly dealt with, publicly. Everyone else was to scared to fight back after that. He leaves us along for the most part now, sending his thugs into town every so often to collect taxes and 'protection fee's' he calls it"
"How have you managed to build the bridge so far without being noticed?"
Tazuna shrugged and took a swig from his flask "probably a mixture of Gato counting his money and his payroll being to stupid to tell him. Honestly i don't know."
"In facing the world, I will see murder, rape, and destruction before I see an ounce of accountability."
Naruto looked around surprised, who said that? It seemed to come from nowhere yet he heard...something crystal clear. But as Tazuna continued, Naruto could see no one else had even registered the voice. "But we made it this far, I'm lucky for that. So what's your plan, miss Ninja" he looked over to Kurenai.
"Well for starters let's get you your house Tazuna-san and have a hot meal and decent shower. After that it'll be escorting you to your bridge and protecting you and your men while we're there. You are to have one of us with you at all times until the bridge is completed understood?"
Tazuna nodded and started walking towards The town of Wave. Naruto didn't mind, while they were resting at Tazuna's house he could talk to Kami he needed answers. The walk there was uneventful, many people gave surprised looks at Tazuna's return and some hopeful glances at the ninja accompanying him, but the majority of people didn't pay them any mind.
"Not like they know what a real ninja's capable of anyways." He muttered to himself.
"Naruto I have a question for you" Kurenai said, breaking the silence.
"Yes Kurenai-sensei?"
"How long can your shadow clones last?"
Naruto opened his mouth to answer but paused, even in his old timeline, his clones rarley lasted longer than a few minutes. But he would assume awhile with how much chakra each one had. "Honestly I don't know Kurenai-sensei, I really don't use my shadow coones outside of battle." Well not true, recently he had been using them for chakra control training but his clones often lost patience and popped themselves. "Maybe an hour or two?" He said with a shrug.
"Hmm..it'll have to do, while I train you three I want at least ten clones guarding Tazuna at all times."
"Understood Kurenai-sensei."
"Here we are" Tazuna said as they approached his house. Naruto saw a small figure peer at them from around the corner before darting away.
'Good' he thought to himself 'don't feel like dealing with Inari and his pessimism at the moment.'
Tazuna led them inside and a woman rushed forward to give him a hugm he laughed "everyone this is my daughter Tsunami. Honey these are the ninja that are going to insure the bridge gets built."
Tsunami smiled at the group "thank you all so much for this" she said with a bow.
"Now now enough of that do you mind making some tea while our guest settle in. Here I'll show you to your rooms."
It was weird originally Kakashi, Sasuke and Him had to share a room whille Sakura got one for herself. Now he had a room to himself while Hinata, Ino and Kurenai shared a room. There was a knock on the door "come in."
Hinata walked in "hey Naruto-kun, Kurenai wanted me to tell you that we're resting for the day and to be up early tomorrow to escort Tazuna to his bridge."
Naruto sighed and Hinata watched him pull out a dull brown rock with some weird symbol on it. He could see her confused look. "Right haven't explained this to you, Kami had this stone delivered to me, it allows me to talk to her. I had a strange dream last night and I need answers. I'll tell you the rest when I get done ok?"
Hinata didn't fully understand what Naruto was saying but she trusted him, "okay Naruto-kun, anything I can do?"
"Yeah, make sure no one messes with me, this thing transports my soul to some astral plane thingy to talk to Kami, leaving my body here unconscious basically."
"Got it" she nodded and closed the door as Naruto took a deep breath before he felt the sensation of flying again. He kept his eyes closed as honestly the thought of seeing the world get smaller at his feet scared him. When the flying sensation was replaced with one of him floating he opened them.
And his sight was filled with the vast openness of a thousand stars. Kami faded into few "hello Naruto-kun, how can I help you."
"hey Kami, i got a question for you."
"I'll answer as best as I can Naruto-kun."
"This morning, I had a weird dream...about Satanel and Mechiael" Kami's face dropped at the names but she said nothing and listened intensely as Naruto explained the rest of the dream and the one that came before it. "Also twice today I heard this weird voice saying things" he quickly explained what he had heard.
Kami smiled sadly and placed a warm hand on his face. "Ah that. En-En's betrayal...it was a devastating blow to me...but as one who has traveled through time and with your old timeline becoming more unstable by the hour as it converges on itself you are in a unique position Naruto-kun. En-En's strange infatuation with you probably allowed you to take a glimpse at his past. As for your future vision." She swept her hand out sideways and a multitude of lines made of golden energy flowed outward interconnected like a spidersweb.
"Time is vast and infinite, where everything has happened and simultaneously never happened. You glimpsed at a time that could have been, if certain events happened and requirements were met. Though the one you saw is long and far from actually happening. En-En has shrouded himself in hatred and chaos. He seeks nothing but the death of myself and my brother, and nothing more. He would never lower his standards to allowing himself to have a connection with anyone."
"And the voices?"
"Probably an enemy ninja Gato hired trying to mess with you Naruto-kun, but everything I have said is a hypothesis at the moment. If it will put you at ease Naruto-kun, I will look into it and confirm that these are baseless worries."
Naruto bowed "Thank you Kami-sama"
"Of course Naruto-kun, it is time for you to go back now. Be strong and remember your mission."
Naruto nodded and faded away and as he did Kami's normal glow dimmed and her smile dropped. Something was bothering her, Naruto's vision of the future En-En and himself was too accurate. Even if he saw what could have been, there was too much detail in his story.
But being both the creator of Naruto AND En-En as well as being able to manipulate time as she could she would see what Naruto saw. Seriously En-En with a family? That would never happen.
She breathed in through her nose and started to channel Divine energy and mixed with Temporal energy, she focused it on Naruto earlier that morning. "Now show me your vision Naruto!" She watched as Naruto watched Mechial stab En-En, she watched as time itself cracked and broke and Naruto fell through some sort of worm whole and then...and then...
"Nothing?" She said aloud in confusion. Naruto hadn't been lying to her, she would have known the moment he tried. So why couldn't she see the other vision, unless..."No!" She snapped her fingers and time started moving forward, she then watched the rest of Naruto's day, from start to when he activated his spirit sigil. Something was strange "were are the voices Naruto heard?" That could only mean….She narrowed her eyes, She needed to see her brother.
Naruto awoke to a darkened room, the sun was just about to finish setting. How long had he been out? He got up and stretched stiffined muscles. He'd need to find a comfortoable way to do that. He opened the door quietly and the sound of of talking filled the hallway, looks like everyone was eating dinner.
And just as he exited the door the smell of Tsunami's home cooking perferated the air. 'Delicious' were his only thoughts as he walled towards the kitchen. But as fate would have it just as he got to the doorway into the dining area the young boy at the table stood up with tears in hsi eyes. "Why do you push yourself so hard" he asked the cut covered Ino, who had apparently been training with Kurenai while he was talking to Kami
"Do yoi seriously think you can stand up to Gato and his men?"
"Shut up" Ino said annoyed looking away from Inari, "I'm strong enough in my own way."
"Shut up!" He screamed back "looking at you makes me sick! Sticking your nose even though you know nothing of this land! I'm not like you acting all frivolous, not knowing one thing about pain! The strong will always beat the weak."
WACK!
Everyone looked in surprise at the door way as Naruto's fist collided with the doorframe, bending it slightly, his hair forming a shadow over his eyes, his hand was shaking. "So what are you gonna do, cry all day like the lead in some sort of tragedy?"
Inari looked at Naruto with fear in his eyes. "Wha..wha-"
"An idiot like you can cry all day for all I care."
"Naruto-kun, that's a little harsh don't you think?"
Inari was frozen in place shaking as tears fell out of his eyes, Naruto just stuck his hands in his pockets "whatever" he said as he left. He needed to clear his head.
Hinata watched in surprise by Naruto's retreating form. What was that? Why was he so angry? If she was right that was the second time Naruto had heard Inari's outburst. So why was he reaction so welll angry?
Inari stood for a few seconds before running out the door, opting to go sulk on the nearby pier.
Naruto for his part, was also sulking but on the roof, just glaring at Inari. Who was he huh? To say they knew nothing of pain? The only one in that room who didn't know real pain by this point was, ironically Ino. Kurenai was ostracized for being friends with Ino, Hinata up until recently was hated by most of the Main Branch Hyuga for being weak, and he...well yeah.
"Naruto, what has gotten into you?" Kurama asked with worry in her voice.
'What are you talking about?'
"Look at yourself right now. You're sulking ontop of a roof after having a total over reaction to a conversation you've had before."
'Come to think of it' Naruto looked down at his hands 'why did I get angry?'
Suddenly the back door opened and Kurenai stepped out "hey mind if sit next to you?"
Inari just said nothing. Kurenai sat down, "we heard the story about your father from Tazuna earlier. You know Naruto never knew his father either. Come to think of it, if I'm not mistaken he doesn't know his mother either. When he was younger he had no friends, but from what I saw he was always out going and eager to prove himself."
"So what? Why do I have to know this?"
"I wanted you to know Naruto understands what it's like to be alone. And his outburst isn't normally like him. I wanted to apologize for him." She peered over her shoulder to the roofx Naruto was gone.
Wack!
Wack, wack!
WACK!
"Who does she think she is huh?" Naruto asked through gritted teeth "apologizing for me? Telling a complete stranger my life story? I NEVER ASKED FOR HER HELP" He screamed as his sword cut through the tree he had been practicing on.
"Calm down Kit, seriously what is wro-"
"Shut it Kurama" Naruto said forcibly closing their mental link "I don't feel like hearing about it." Suddenly Naruto turned around swinging his sword around bringing it to a stop a few inches away from Haku's neck who had been approaching him. "Sneaking up on me like that will get you killed."
"Forgive me Naruto-san. I just wanted to make sure you were alright. Your words to young Inari seemed...personal."
Naruto sheathed his blade and sat on the grass with a sigh, "yeah they were a little personal so what."
"It's just, I know a thing or two about pain. Care to share?"
Naruto sat in silence for a second before motioning to the spot of grass beside him, with wihch Haku happily sat down.
He thought for a second, how much should he tell Haku, he doubted he would think any different of him. He took his shirt off, and Haku looked away with a blush, that Naruto wouldn't have seen in the dark. Naruto may have been young but he was by no means a shrimp. His muscles were quite toned for his body. But the lighting shining from the seal on his stomach caught her attention.
"When I was born the Nine tailed Fox attacked Konoha. To stop the destruction of the village, the Fourth Hokaye sacrificed his life to seal it inside of me. Once the the village realized that, they both hated and feared me. The Third Hokage came out of retirement to lead the gillage and made it a law preventing them from telling the kids about my secret. But it didn't stop their parents from demonizing me. So yeah I had a rough child hood."
Before Haku could react another figure landed in the field, with a huge blade strapped to his back. "There you are Haku."
"Zabuz-sama!" Haku quickly stood up and bowed "how did your scouting go?"
"With that Inuzuka around it was difficult to go around without being noticed, but it was easy enough to infiltrate the place. Tomorrow I'm going to get an idea of how many people are guarding the place, I want you to stay and help guard Tazuna understood?"
"Yes Zabuza-sama" Haku said still bowing.
Something about the way Haku was acting really ticked Naruto off. Like really bad.
"Zabuza,san" he called out, standing up.
"What kid?"
"Let's fight."
Silence filled the area as Zabuza stared at Naruto. "Excuse me?"
"No Taijutsu, no Ninjutsu. Just our swords. I want to see what a Deadly Swordsmen is capabale of and how I compare to one and honestly I have some steam I need to blow off."
Zabuza seemed to give it some real thought before pushing Haku away and slowly brining his blade in front of him. "Fine kid, but don't complain when I put you into the dust."
Naruto grinned as he rushed Zabuza, his blade held high "I expect as much!"
His first swing was an easy one to block, his second, third, fourth and fifth however came at a pace more aggressive than Zabuza was expecting. While blocked it caught him by surprise as the flurry of blows came from all angels.'i thiught he specialized in a defensive technique, and besides the way he's swinging is way to aggressive. It leaves way to many openings for an experienced fighter to exploit like.." Zabuza blocked Naruto's swing coming from the Left and firmly planted his foot in his chest pushing him away.
"Come on kid, I know your still new to kenjutsu, but these are rookie mistakes."
'And besides' Zabuza thiught to himself 'the way he was attacking, you'd think he was actually trying to kill me.'
Naruto growled and leapt back into the fray, his sword all but invisible except for when the moon light would reflect off of his blade. Zabuza did an impressive job of deflecting or blocking Naruto's attacks. But his pursuit was relentless and soon Zabuza was forced to take a step back to avoid a swipe at his chest. And then another step, and another step and another until eventually with a mighty roar he swung up catching Naruto's sword at the hilt and forcing it to go into the air.
"All right that's enough kid. You're making me try real hard not to do something that would cause some serious damage. And besides I've seen everything I needed to. You're good, real good and have a lot of potential. But right now your fighting angry, and it's making you sloppy. I could have killed you a hundred times over in that last exchange. So until you manage to get a hold of yourself and calm down, I'm done here."
Zabuza turned to walk away "come on Haku, we're leaving."
Watching Zabuza's retreating form only served to enrage Naruto further, as every failed attempt to hit Zabuza and also added to his rage. How dare he turn his back on him! Naruto growled and rushed forward picking up his sword in the process. He leapt into the air "I never said I was finished!"
Zabuza turned just in time to see Naruto's coming close. But alas Naruto's, reckless, last ditch ever was all for naught. As he started to descend several senbon needles struck him all over his body and just as they peirced him, Zabuza's hand reached out and grabbed the whole of Naruto's face spamming him into the ground. Naruto for his part was limp and unconscious. Haku appeared behind him, checking on Naruto.
"Zabuza-sama..."
"Yeah I know" he said with a sigh walking over to Naruto. "Something's not right here. The kid was way to angry."
"He also got angry earlier, at the bridge builders grandson."
"Hmm.." Zabuza gripped his chin in thought. "Check him for any puncture wounds, maybe he was drugged?"
Haku shook her head "not possible, he was with me and his team all day. One of us would have noticed. Maybe it was a genjutsu?"
"Most likely the case, lets take him back to Tazuna's house. You'll probably have to take over for him in guarding the old geezer while he's out."
Haku nodded and picked Naruto up, and the two began the long walk back to Tazuna's house.
"And that's what happened." Haku finished explaining as Kurenai was staring at the two.
She just let out a long sigh, "right. So Naruto just attacked you?"
"Well to be fair he did ask for a fight, he just didnt accept when it was over. Kid was all in his head, Haku thinks he might have been in a genjutsu or something."
"It would explain why he got angry with Inari earlier, which means Gato has hired more than one missing nin, I don't think the Inuzuka we fought specialozes in genjutsu. Would you mind accompanying us to the bridge tomorrow Zabuza? With Naruto out we've lost our hard hitter."
"Your hard hitter?" Zabuza asked with one eye raised.
"Hey" Kurenai responded defensively "I'm Konoha's genjutsu mistress, not ninjutsu expert. Save that for Hatake or Asuma."
"Fair enough, I guess I don't mind. If Gato's ninja decied to attack the bridge builder it'll make killing him later on easier, Haku stay here for the night, I'll go back to our camp and stay theyr for the night and pack up and meet you here in the morning."
"Hai Zabuza-sama."
Inside Naruto's head
"Kurama I'm sorry."
"I don't wanna hear it kit." The giant fox said, her eyes closed.
"Seriously I don't know why I did what I did!"
"Easy Kit, there's some kind of foreign chakra in your system, it was enhancing your anger and all your darker emotions."
"I really am- wait what?"
Kurama sighed and stood up, opting to stare down at Naruto "probably when you were out talking to Kami, but someone put basically a parisite in your chakra. Feeding off of your anger. It made you more susceptible to your hate, and the angrier you got the stronger the hold it had on you."
"And that's what made me attack Zabuza like that?"
"Yeah pretty much, after you severed out connection" she gave Naruto a very pointed glare with which he sheepishly looked away from "I started doing an analysis of you and found the foreign chakra. I've alread started purging it from your system."
"Oh, thanks...and sorry."
"Don't worry about it kit, I should have this chakra out of your system in an hour but Haku hit a vital spot on the back of your neck. Even with me assisting the healing process, it'll be morning time before you wake up."
"Naruto sat down in the rock garden staring at Jiriaya's memorial and groaned "ughhhh! Why does this keep happening?!"
In the morning
"How long until he wakes up Haku?"
Haku looked at the still unconscious form of Naruto, "an hour, maybe less? Depends on him at this point."
"Fine, Tsunami-san" Kurenai called around the corner "when Naruto comes too can you direct him to the bridge and tell him to meet us there."
"Alright" was her answer.
"Alright Hinata, Ino let's go. You're coming right Haku-san?" Haku nodded "good, let's go Tazuna-san."
Okay...okay...okay that wasn't too bad I think?
