Okay so here we are at chapter number 25. To be honest I'm surprise at few things. One that I made it this far and two that so many people are still becoming followers and adding this story to their favorites list. I've said it before how I actually thought i mightn't get so much views because of this being a cross over and crossovers technically make up a smaller part of the site. heck digimon x mha is a category with only 10 stories, so it really surprises me how i can get so many views. Initially i worried i wouldn't have gotten none and that it would have been better just putting the story in one category or the other but I'm glad those worries were for nothing.
i didn't really plan anything special for the chapter in honour of it being number 25 story wise, so I guess I'll just say it here how thankful I am for how many of you read this story and continue to support it and help it grow. Really it means a lot to me to see that so many love the story so much.
"So let me get this straight. You freaked out, injured some of your classmates and while the parents wanted to suspend or expel you, your care taker managed to convince them to let you do community service, which is why you're dressed like that." Iida said. "I guess that's a more productive alternative." He pondered. "Still that doesn't explain…" He glanced at the handcuffs on Sayo and Mei. "That." He gestured.
"Apparently, Sensei told her I have habit off overworking myself in the workshop." Mei explained. "So he told her that when lunch came she needed to get me out of the workshop." Mei said. "I told her I would just need to finish one little project first but noooo, she goes and handcuffs me and drags me out of the room." Mei told them.
"You forgot about the part where you nearly blew up the workshop…again." Sayo added. Seriously in the few hours she was in there Mei had almost blown them up 3 times. Like hell, was Sayo going to stay there any longer, nor would she leave Mei there alone on the off chance she blew up the whole school.
"So you're a support student." Ochaco said trying to break the tension. "What exactly do you do in the support course?" She asked.
"Well I get to make a lot of babies." Mei said absentmindedly.
"BABIES!" Everyone exclaimed.
"She means inventions. She calls them her babies." Sayo explained.
"Right and I get to make tons of them." Mei said happily. "I'm going to be the greatest support gear inventor that ever lived and the U.A. Sports Festival is the perfect place to start my career."
"Hmmm. What do you mean? I thought we only showed off our quirks at the sports festival." Iida noted.
"You, hero course students, get to show off your quirks not us. Since you guys get extra training and have better quirks, the rest of us are allowed to use support items so long as we make them." Mei explained. "It's only fair." She told them
"Fair is a bit of a relative term." Izuku deadpanned.
"What do you mean? You guys have your training and your quirks and we have our support gear." Mei pointed out.
"Except me and Izuku don't have quirks." Sayo told her.
"Wait. Seriously?" Mei asked. The duo nodded. "Wow…well I guess that's kind of impressive really." There was a brief awkward silence among the group before the gears started turning in Mei's head. "Hey wait a minute…if you're going to become a hero, then most likely you'll be using a lot of support items right?"
"Most likely." Izuku answered. "Why?" He asked.
"Well maybe I could sponsor you." She told him. "If I talk to Power Loader and he says yes, I can probably sponsor support gear to other students." She explained. "It'll help even out the playing field."
"I don't know." Izuku said nervously. "Would that really be fair?"
"Izuku she does have a point, if I recall correctly there are people as powerful as Todoroki out there. No amount of brains or brawn is going to beat him without something extra." Sayo told him.
"I will agree with Hatsume, Midoriya." Iida said surprisingly. "While I myself don't like the idea…if the teachers and principal allow it then I see no problem."
"Well if Iida says it's okay then I guess I can give it a shot." Izuku muttered. "Off course now, I'll need to see the gear and probably starting training to use it." He said as he went off into incoherent ramble.
Sayo immediately reached behind his head and gave him a 'light' tap. "You were doing it again." She told him.
"Oh." Izuku answered. He really needed to break that habit of his.
"So I know all the courses have some alternative reasons for participating in the festival…but is anyone actually going to participate just for fun?" Sayo asked.
"What do you mean?" Iida asked.
"Well….support shows off their inventions, heroes get scouted and usually Gen Ed students use the sports festival as a chance to get promoted into the hero course." Sayo explained. "Everyone's joining the festival for reasons other than having fun."
"Well I don't see why we need to have fun; for most of us this where we'll get scouted, it's how we'll become pro heroes." Iida told her.
"Really you don't see why you should have fun." Sayo deadpanned. "Man you guys are a dense."
"So are you entering the festival Sayo?" Ochaco asked.
"Oh yeah, I'm definitely entering it, but I'm just entering to have fun." Sayo answered.
After lunch was over the students parted ways, Mei and Sayo walked back to the support course. Of course several people cast them strange glances on their way back, what with Sayo in her Hudie outfit and Mei being handcuffed to the girl.
"Finally I get to resume working on my babies." Mei cheered as she pumped up her fist. "Do you know how much inventions I could have made during lunch." She told Sayo.
"I'm going to assume a lot." Sayo answered her.
"I could have at least finished two." She explained. "Though I am glad I'm getting someone else to help show off my gear. I was starting to get worried I would need to show of everything myself. If he reaches far it will be great advertising for what my babies can do." Mei said.
"Just make sure they don't injure my partner." Sayo warned. "Last thing I want is to explain to Mrs. Midoriya that her son got blown up." She told the support student.
"Don't worry my babies are very reliable…as soon as I work out all the bugs." Mei admitted.
"I'd start by making sure the software inside them was more versatile than the in training level work you're doing." Sayo told her.
"In training what?" Mei asked.
"Your coding, for your machines, is pretty basic." Sayo told her.
"What do you mean basic?" Mei huffed. "I'll have you know I code specifically for the tasks at hand." Mei insisted.
"Exactly. It's basic. You only code it so you can get one job done, but its otherwise constraint to that one job. If you took a little more time or had someone else deal with the code I'm sure your babies would do a lot better than what they're doing now." Sayo explained. "Case in point your hover shoes. Right now they exert enough force to lift someone with similar size to you. Anyone heavier than you won't lift off and anyone lighter than you will rocket to the ceiling."
"Oh but that's an easy fix. All I need to do is add an adjustment setting and whoever uses it will be able to change the setting to what they need. Easy peasy." Mei told her.
"Or…you can add a sensor to measure the weight/mass of the user and then have a program calculate the necessary power needed to help them hover. That way you don't need to constantly adjust the settings. You don't waste power on light people and you can easily work with heavier users." Sayo explained.
"That's…that's actually a pretty good idea." Mei noted. "You know…I thought you were just all brawn and no brain but you're actually pretty smart." Mei told her.
"Wait what was that?" Sayo asked.
"Look we're already back at the workshop." Mei said ignoring the girl. "Let's go and undo these handcuffs and then I'll see about implementing that sensor stuff you suggested." The pink hair girl said as they approached the shop.
"Should I even ask?" Power Loader told them.
"I got her out, kept her from coming back and made sure I kept an eye on her." Sayo said as he unlocked the cuffs. "It was either this or I knock her unconscious."
"Fair enough." He told her.
"Wait…you were joking about that right?" Mei asked.
"About knocking you out instead of handcuffing? Suuuure." Sayo answered coyly. Mei didn't seem to believe that answer but she nevertheless left to go grab the hover boots. Sayo then turned to the teacher. "So I have some questions." Sayo told the man.
"What kind of questions?" Power Loader asked.
"The sports festival…I heard support students can use the gadgets and costumes they make during the festivities." Sayo told him. "Any chance they can sponsor students in other areas as well?" Sayo asked.
"I assume you want to use some of our support items." Power Loader said.
"Well not so much for me." Sayo told him. "I have a friend in the hero course. Mei thinks he'll be a great candidate to show off her inventions."
"I'm going to have to say no." Power Loader said. "The hero course students already get enough advantage for the festival with their quirks. I don't think it would be wise to allow any of them to have any more of a lead." The teacher told her. "Especially since the whole festival's practically rigged to favour them anyway." The teacher muttered under his breath, barely audible enough for Sayo to hear.
"That's the thing. My friend in the hero course is quirkless." Sayo told him. "He has less of chance against some of the other students in any of the courses." She explained. "At least without his digimon." She thought.
"Hmmm quirkless you say." Power Loader said as he pondered the thought. "I'll think about it and even if I agree, I'll need to talk to some of the staff members about this." The hero told her.
"Well if you do ask them, remember it was Mei offering him her inventions, leave me out of it in case my reputation affects their judgement." Sayo told him.
"I'll keep that in mind." Power Loader told the cyber sleuth. The young inventor she rejoined the two.
"Alright let's get to work." Mei said as she brought back the hover shoes, her laptop and tools. She handed the laptop to Sayo. "Here's the computer with the code I have for the shoes." She told the girl. "You can start reprogramming it while I add in the sensor." Mei told her.
"Well I did tell you to look into it." Sayo muttered. She then took the computer and started working at the code; Power Loader overlooked the two of them as he waited for the other students to come. Mei had left enough data in the computer for Sayo to use so she was able to get to work right away. Following the calculations Mei used, Sayo was able adapt the program to change the force exerted depending the weight of user, as well as few other things, in no time. "Alright I'm done." Sayo told Mei and the support teacher.
"Already?" Power Loader remarked. "It hasn't even been 5 minutes." He noted.
"And?" Sayo added. This was child's play for her. She literally grew up in the digital world itself, coding was as easy to her as breathing. She handed the laptop over to Power Loader who inspected work.
The teacher's eyes widened as looked it over. He had seen the coding Mei had used before but this…this was far different. Sayo had recoded the entire program to work just as they planned for the boots to function, but she also did more. She also wrote another set of code to help monitor the consumption of the boots fuel and estimate the duration of long the boots would be able to hover, all Mei would need to do now was make an alarm system to use this code or maybe just something to display it.
"Where did you learn to program like this?" Power Loader asked her.
"When you grow up with a lot of….family and friends who work with data and computers; you pick up a thing or two…..or thirty nine." Sayo told them.
"I don't suppose you can help me double check a few of the other student's coding?" He asked.
"Sure. Not like I have anything else to do." Sayo said.
Once the day was over class 1-A was ready to be dismissed and head home, however before they could leave they ran into a little roadblock.
"Um…why the heck, are you all here?" Ochaco asked as she noticed the huge swarm of students blocking the class exit.
"Do you students have some sort of business with our class?" Iida asked trying to be a diplomatic as possible.
"Why are you all blocking our door way?….I won't let you take our class hostage." Mineta declared.
"There scouting out the competition idiots. We're the class that survived a real villain attack so they want to see us with their own eyes." Bakugo said as he walked up to group. "At least now you know what a future pro looks like." He told them. "Now move it extras." He ordered, much to dismay of his fellow classmates. Iida tried to tell him he couldn't just call people that but Bakugo paid no heed.
Among the group outside, were students from the various other classes. One of the students was none other than Shinso. "You know, it surprises me that they allow an ego maniac like you to be in the hero course, especially when I know for a fact there are a lot of more decent people there. Such is life I suppose." Shinso told Bakugo as walked in front of the group. He glanced at his usual lunch buddies; Izuku, Ochaco, Mineta and Iida. Had he not know them, he would have assumed everyone was like this jerk but he knew for a fact that wasn't the case. Unfortunately for 1-A Shinso wasn't the only one who had something to tell them.
Another group of students, class 1-B also had a couple of bones to pick with 1-A. "Hey you." A student with grey hair and cream colour rings around his eyes. "I am from Class 1-B the class next door to you. We heard you fought some villains and I came to see if that was true, but you're just a bunch of brats who think you're better than us." He told them. It became very evident right there and then that Bakugo had made everyone hate them. Bakugo paid no mind though and simply pushed his way through the crowd.
"Hey where are you going?" Kirshima asked. "It's your fault there hating on us Bakugo." The red head told the explosion user.
"These people don't matter." Bakugo replied. "All that matters is that I beat them."
"That's big talk coming from someone who has been saved by All Might twice now." Another voice said. This time it was from a blonde boy. "If I recall you were also the victim of a sludge villain attack almost a year ago…I believe it was All Might who saved there as well." The boy said. "You say you're a future hero but so far the evidence as proven otherwise." The boy said. "You're more like a pro zero." Bakugo was about to respond when the sprinkler system in the hall and in Class 1-A went off, drenching all the students.
"What the heck?" Some students commented as they were doused in water. Everyone started scurrying to get out the area. Most of them were completely unaware of the cyber sleuth hanging around a nearby doorway as she waited for Izuku.
"Honestly do some of those students have bricks for brains?" Lunamon asked her friends. "There fellow students were attacked by villains and there first thought is to come and antagonize them because of some sports festival. Shouldn't be more considerate or something, I mean they are trying to be a heroes right?" She asked her friends.
"After hearing how that pompous jerk behaved, I don't blame them. The sports festival though is apparently a really big and grand event." Black Gabumon said. "According to what Black Agumon told me earlier, Aizawa claimed that it's one of the most watched sporting events in the world, being of a caliber so high that it surpasses the Olympics." He explained.
"What kind of Sukamon crap is that?!" Lunamon swore uncharacteristically. "How the hell did one of Earth's oldest sporting competition, which by the way existed since as far back as 776 BC get replaced by some sports day for a high school?" She asked.
"Apparently…. quirks." Phascomon answered.
"That's a pack of poo if I ever heard any. You mean to tell me that a global competition that had over 200 countries with over 10 000 of the world's greatest athletes got replaced by a high school event, with less than 700 teenage students." Lunamon said furiously.
"Lunamon…..please calm down." Phascomon pleaded with his friend.
"Calm down. Calm down. My entire evolution line is devoted to the Olympus XII. This is nothing short of blasphemy that some pretend hero school thinks they're school sports is better than the Olympics. The Olympic Games were made to honour the Gods for crying out loud, this sports is nothing more than them stroking their own egos." The lunar rookie ranted. "How in Hades name did they even become so popular." She growled.
"Apparently it's so popular because of all those top notch 'heroes' U.A. produces." Black Gabumon noted as he looked through some footage on the event. In the dark beast's opinion he could very well see the insult for Lunamon. Aizawa was not a man who would exaggerate details and even if he did such things would only prove U.A. did in fact have a big ego. For Black Gabumon he personally didn't care the same way Lunamon with regards to the Olympics, instead he was more insulted that Olympic Games which had required a mixture of technique, skill, power and teamwork had been surpassed by a far simpler event, where students could easily win simply because they had been born with a good enough super power. He wasn't downplaying the fact that the students worked hard, but rather he was more upset that people who had devoted their lives to actually training to be professional athletes had been outshone by a single school of teenagers.
"Really….that's the reason why it's so popular." Lunamon growled. "Why I..Why I…garghh." Lunamon yelled as she stomped of to go throw her tantrum somewhere where she wouldn't hurt her friend by accident.
"I really hope she mellows out by the time the actual festival reaches." Phascomon said fearfully.
"You and me both." Black Gabumon added. "You and me both."
"So I take it your class now has a big target on their backs." Sayo told Izuku as the two of them rode the train to Hudie. Marcus had issued a special meeting for them and advised specifically that they come through the digital world.
"Oh yeah." Izuku answered. "They think just because we got attacked by villains and got some media attention, that we're a bunch of spoiled brats." Izuku said remembering the 1-B student's words.
"I take it that's because Bakugo opened his big mouth." Sayo claimed. She had heard everything and had set off the sprinkler system as quickly as possible to try and break up the situation. Not that it had helped all that much, the damage was done.
"Oh yeah. He opened it real big this time." Izuku answered. "If they didn't hate us before they most certainly hate us now." Izuku told the girl.
"They shouldn't have hated you all in the first place." Sayo whispered. "Regardless of what Bakugo said, you were all still attacked by villains. No offense, but you're victims because of that. Neither should they antagonize you nor should they have been jealous or make claims that you are stuck up about it." Sayo told him. "They make it sound like you guys think you were lucky to get attacked or that they should have been attacked by the villains instead." Sayo explained as she turned to Izuku. "I'm no hero Izuku, but even I know that's something heroes shouldn't say."
"It's no big deal, just some friendly competition between classes." He told her.
"Friendly or not you don't say those kinds of things to people." Sayo told him before taking a deep breath. "Let's talk about something else." She said as she hoped to change the subject.
"So are you really competing in the sports festival?" Izuku asked. "I mean I know you're under doing your 'community service' and all so I was wondering if they were forbidding you from participating." He clarified.
"No, they didn't ban me. I'm allowed to compete just like everyone else." Sayo answered.
"And you're participating just to have fun." Izuku added, remembering her previous statement from lunch. Sayo's idea of fun was not always the same as his own. She viewed the Sports event as not the spectacle that Aizawa and his classmates had made it to be but rather something akin to a fair…or an actual well festival.
"Well that depends on how you define fun." Sayo told him. "The sports festival benefits me in no way, but it does benefit you guys. As such I take it upon myself to help you guys whatever way I can during the festival." She stated. "Helping you guys is my way of having fun." She explained. "Besides, this will also be one of the few times I can actually cut loose in the real world as opposed to just the digital world."
"Well I hope you really do have a good time." Izuku told her.
"I hope you have a good time as well." She responded.
Okay so this rounds out the first half of the second episode in the anime. After this is the time skip to sports festival...but we aren't going to do that. We are going to do this much slower where we have our somewhat regular super hero school with our digimon cases leading up to the sports festival.
We also have Marcus dealing with Yakuza. Fun.
Question time:
I'll be honest today's question sounds a little silly but what do you all like or dislike about some crossovers in general?
For me one of the things i find interesting about crossovers is how the themes of the two stories can either go against or compliment each other. Like with this story, Mha's theme is all about being a hero and doing what's right but in the setting itself, heroism has become like a warped version of itself. Meanwhile with Digimon you get something more along the lines of self discovery and unity with the digimon growing stronger only if the humans grow as better people or by bonding with their humans, heroism is more of an after thought for digimon.
So its the combining of these themes that I find so interesting among the more usual, I get to see my favourite characters team up aspect.
For me one thing I dislike for some crossovers is when you only retell the story of one but just add or replace characters without changing the story in any meaningful way. Like if i retold one story and i added a character from another story and that character's presence does nothing at all. The story is more or less the same.
But that's just my opinions and everyone is free to agree or disagree if they wishes...but be respectful at the very least.
That's all for now.
