Epilogue

2 months had passed since the assassin's victory but each day Evie fought with the guilt of failure and still found it equally difficult to fight the remaining Templars holed up in London. Henry had tried to comfort her having experienced similar regret and failure and assured her every day that she would eventually come to terms with her pain but her mood still became worse with each day.

Jacob sat opposite Henry in a small office of the new headquarters in London.

"No matter what I do I can't ease her pain" Henry said sadly.

Jacob looked thoughtful "you need to take her away from here" he announced "every day she wakes she is reminded of the carnage she helped bring here, unwilling as it was. Take her to your homeland and encourage her to learn the non-fatal training that the Indian brotherhood have wrote to us about"

"Yes…that could help bring her identity back somewhat…without her fear of becoming what she coined "a monster" Henry surmised.

"George and I can carry on getting London back up and running now some of our loyal rooks are back, although I'm keeping the gang smaller this time. I can't afford to ever make that kind of mistake again…" Jacob said trailing off.

The cab made its way down to the docks and the group climbed out and made their way to the gangplank leading to the cruiser. Evie stopped and suddenly turned to Jacob.

"I can't just leave now" she said sadly "There's still so much to do"

Jacob took her arm and led her away to the side

"We'll be alright. We've got some allies coming from across country to help get us back on our feet. You were so excited about this trip before. Go and discover a new land just like you wanted too when we were children." he said gently.

She looked back at him with a sigh "are you sure you'll be alright Jacob?"

Jacob looked over to Lilly who was chatting with Henry

"I'll be fine" he said smiling "And when things are all sorted out here we'll come and visit"

Evie followed his line of sight to Lilly and smiled

"Would you like an Indian wedding?" she chirped and he looked back to her in shock which turned to thoughtfulness

"Do I get to ride an elephant?" he questioned with a raised brow.

She laughed then and they embraced, a small tear escaping from her eye

"I'll see you soon brother, thank you for being there for me when I needed you the most." she said quietly.

Jacob then produced something from his pocket and tied it around Evie's neck

"Take care of this for me?" he said quietly.

Evie brought her hand up to the little shilling around her neck and smiled a sad smile.

Jacob and Lilly watched the cruiser grow smaller in the distance, the lump in his throat large, causing him to swallow.

Lilly silently took his hand as she noticed his distress and he pulled her into an embrace, watching the cruiser disappear on the horizon.
