It took a few hours but at first the two didn't lay there in silence. They just talked nonstop and apologised for everything and cleared the air. Steve found out that Clara hadn't been to any cafés in America as she'd never been. She had never gone on a tourist trip around New York and knew next to nothing about Brooklyn. Steve had sworn to take her while she had sworn to go through all his movies with him, adding a few more of her 'suggestions', which basically included all Disney movies. What could she say? She was a Disney gal. Steve joked that he couldn't really reach any paper right now but he'd remember to put it on the list. She also found out he'd never been on a rollercoaster.
He had been too poor for the fairground rides and hadn't seen it as much of a priority since he'd come out of the ice. So Clara had sworn she'd take him on some and he had only agreed on the condition that she'd go with him and Clara hesitantly settled for the deal when he pointed out it was only fair. They settled on a massive list of things to do and talked through them like little kids dreaming about when they were older. Those few hours transported them back in time and they dozed off leaning on each other with their arms around each other.
They woke up to the sound of Tony's camera clicking. "Aw, aren't they sweet?" He cooed and Steve blearily opened his eyes, trying to avoid the dust and rubble start to tumble onto their faces as they moved the larger pieces away. Clara was still asleep next to him but starting to wake up from all the noise and Steve pushed the phone away, trying to shush him but it was too late. She woke up, brushing all the dust from her face and looking at Tony who was smiling.
"Tony?" She asked confusedly and he grinned, snapping a photo. "What are you doing here?" She carried on, shielding her face from the camera and looking around at the different place she was in.
"Making your dream come true. It must've been horrible being stuck with Rogers under the rubble for hours." He joked as Clara laughed, looking up to see him directing his suits to lift piece after piece of rock, eventually freeing them both further. But she knew that she wasn't in the same place under the rubble than before. The shield was missing. She was about to ask when the suits finished and she felt the rock move from her foot. "There we go, all done." Tony spoke in a satisfied tone with his arms crossed before he reached out a hand for Clara to get up which she took before gasping in pain when she realised her foot had no more pressure on it from the rock and was starting to hurt again. This was only amplified when she tried to stand and she fell onto Steve who held her, making sure she didn't put her body weight on the foot so as not to injure it further.
"We need an ambulance." He told Tony who nodded and starting arranging that as well as Steve picked her up bridal style again, no time for complaints as she laughed.
"Like this again? If I didn't know better, I would think that you actually wanted to get out of here." She quipped as Steve laughed. But before he could reply, Clara seem to notice something. "Wait, go over there." She ordered and he walked over to where she pointed, in the middle of the rubble again. "Bend down for a moment." She told him and he raised an eyebrow but did as she asked and she pulled out the shield they had hid under for all those hours and brushed it off. "There we go, brand new." She smiled as all the dust and rubble fell to the floor. "Well, you might have to redo the paint a bit but it's still intact." She shrugged as she found a scratch on the front.
"Thanks. I'll get on that, soon as we get back to the Tower." He nodded as she smiled, brushing it off a bit more and holding it near her foot.
"Might want to have a shower first." She suggested jokingly, sniffing the air comically as he scoffed.
"Look who's talking." He retorted and she mock gasped. "I'm almost tempted to drop you." He smirked and she put her arms around his neck, hugging him close.
"Well then I better hang on." She whispered into his ear, the scene suddenly becoming much flirtier than before and Steve barely suppressed a grin. It was one of those classic Clara moments where she flirted constantly and took things just that little bit further but it was enough to silence Steve.
"Steve look out!" Tony yelled, looking round from his phone and the super soldier turned around just in time to see one of the suits aim a blast right where they were standing and Steve dived out of the way with Clara in his arms and all that could be heard was Clara's piercing scream as the vibranium shield crashed on her already injured foot, definitely broken. She didn't know what it had been before but it was definitely broken now. The scream echoed around the remains of the place and Tony instantly ran at the suit with his own arm of armour, shooting it down multiple times.
"Clara, Clara! Are you alright?" Steve instantly asked, getting up off the floor. He had dived and thrown her a few paces away to keep her out of the line of fire but she'd kept a hold of the shield and it had broken her foot. He scrambled to his feet, picking her up to lay her on his lap to check she hadn't gotten any more injuries. She had hit her head and was unconscious. Of course, before Steve could wake her and check she was okay, the ambulance arrived and took her from him. He wanted to fight them, he wanted to throw them to the floor and wake Clara up himself to make sure she was properly okay and then he could apologise but she wasn't going to wake up if he did that.
It felt like they spent years taking her away when it was so quick, all in the space of a few minutes as they spoke to each other and started to talk to Clara, blurting her name out in questions that he'd already asked. He watched as the ambulance sped off and he snapped out of it, looking for another car to drive when Tony stopped him. "Steve, come look at this." He called and the super soldier walked over, looking at the holographic message sent through the rogue suit.
"What happened?" He asked before reading the words and his eyes widened.
"Think of that as a little reminder of what I can do now. Especially now you've 'helped' me." Tony read off, thoroughly confused before he made it larger and at the end of indirect threat, came a name. "The Great Intelligence."
Steve felt his heart drop as he realised they'd definitely gotten away for sure. Clara knew, like she had predicted. Of course she knew that they had some backup plan. But it didn't make it any less bitter or soften the blow in Steve's opinion. "Of course." He whispered with a sigh. He didn't know a thing about the Great Intelligence, he hadn't fought him like Clara had but he knew Loki and as much as he hated to admit it, he knew that even if the Great Intelligence hadn't found a way, Loki would've.
"Who's he? The one that came through as well, before Clara?" Tony asked, not having caught up.
"Yeah, and there's a lot that happened in this place. Not just a fake drug deal." He sighed, walking off with Tony rushing after him to listen to what had happened after snapping a photo of the message and fully breaking the suit so the Great Intelligence couldn't re-possess it although he had a feeling he had no need to any more. On the way back to the Tower, Steve told Tony everything that had happened and he in turn filled in parts of the story he didn't know, such as why the shield was there. It had been moved to make it easier to shift the rocks under it and neither of them had noticed in their sleep. But neither of them knew for sure how the Great Intelligence got into Tony's suit. Only Clara might have the answer.
They got back, silence reigning over the car once the stories and theorising had finished. The door opened and they both rushed out, going to the hospital room Tony had set up when re-designing the Tower. They burst in and saw Clara asleep on the bed on the side of the room with the doctor checking her over. Tony looked at the doctor with fear in his eyes and the doctor instantly gave him the clipboard, trying to calm his fears. "She's completely fine. Well, not at the moment but she will be. It's just a broken foot which will need bed rest and a cast. Her head was hit quite hard so she may have a small concussion but we will have to-"
As soon as he uttered the words, Clara began to retch, waking herself up with the urge to puke and the doctor rushed to bring over a bucket and she bent over, puking into the bucket with the doctor holding her hair behind her. Steve was about to go over when Tony grabbed his arm and shook his head, both of them placing the clipboard on the side table and leaving quietly. "Just give her a bit of time. You don't want a shock." He advised and while he was thinking of the possible memory loss which could accompany a concussion, Steve instantly thought of the ill feelings she might bear towards him about the incident. He nodded back warily and they walked away.
Steve took a shower and updated the rest of the team about everything that had happened and they all waited a day before visiting Clara to give her some time to recover at least. "Hey guys, what took you so long?" She joked as they walked in with presents.
"Thought we'd give you a day to yourself." Nat defended as she passed over a box of chocolates to which Clara laughed.
"Make yourself presentable." Clint added as Clara brushed dirt off her cheek.
"Yeah, they wouldn't let me have a shower with a concussion. Said I'd have to wait until it's gone to have a shower in case I faint and they don't know." She sighed as Tony laughed, receiving a playful slap on the wrist as a reply.
"Oh come on, it's funny. Even Capsicle had a shower." He defended and Clara rolled her eyes at him.
"So, not war wounds for yourself?" She asked, directing the question at Steve who began to stutter, no words coming to mind. Clara waited patiently, gently prompting him every now and then, kinder to his situation because of her teacher status. The team… not so much. Tony laughed, shoving him a little to make him talk.
"Come on Capsicle, what's wrong? Frozen again?" He quipped and Steve put down the flowers he'd brought on the side before managing to say something.
"Sorry, I've got to go." He excused, rushing out as Clara picked up the flower with her lips pressed together before admiring them.
"Thanks for the flowers!" She called after him before turning to the rest of the team who was laughing openly now he was gone. "What happened?" She asked and they all shrugged.
"No idea, but it was funny." Nat smirked and Clara sighed, talking to them instead and having a funny, bantering conversation like always but she couldn't help wondering what was going on with Steve. Well, that was a different situation entirely. He wasn't scared of Clara, how strong she was. He knew that she was strong, he loved that she was strong. He just didn't know what she knew about how her injuries got worse and why she was rushed off in an ambulance or what her reaction was going to be when she realised he was to blame. He already felt guilty.
"Clara, we-" Nat began, having been informed of what happened with the suit before Tony interrupted her.
"We hope that you get better soon." He finished as he pulled the team out of the room.
"Tony, what the-" Nat protested, trying to restrain from kicking his arse.
"Look, just give her a day or so. She's had a concussion, give her some time. She doesn't want to listen to that specific news now." He told her quickly, trying to be reasonable as she thought it over before nodding and agreeing. They went back in and quickly left her to rest, making a pact to come back when her concussion was over. And so, keeping to the pact, the two of them came back two days later and showed her the pictures silently.
"When was this?" Clara asked quickly, shifting her leg so she could move to look at them properly with frantic fear in her eyes.
"Right after you were taken in the ambulance." Tony relayed and her eyes widened as she instantly got out of bed and hobbled out of the door, surprisingly fast for a short woman on crutches. "Clara! Clara wait!" He called, rushed after her, finding her in the lab on the computer before she let out a disgruntled sigh.
"Why didn't you tell me this earlier?" She moaned and Nat gave Tony a meaningful look which he ignored.
"Look, we thought you needed some rest and telling you about this wasn't going to help." He explained as she raked a frustrated hand through her hair.
"No but-!"
"But what?" Nat asked, a little calmer as she approached the fiery woman.
"I could've tracked him down. The Artron energy trail, time stuff," She added once she saw their confused faces at the term. "Will have faded by now but I could've used a tracking algorithm. Because I've been thinking about it and they were definitely gone when we got trapped. I heard a vortex manipulator. But there's no way they could've made that. So I think it was a very rough design, only built for one or two trips. But if they had and my theory checked out, I could've tracked them!" She sighed at the missed opportunity as Tony looked apologetic as he could for diverting and not telling her earlier.
"Sorry."
"No its fine. Just, I hoped I could've caught him." She sighed again and he pursed his lips in thought.
"Maybe you can catch him soon though. If you can help me find out what kind of energy signature this time energy thing gives off, I could scan the world and find them wherever they go." He offered and her mood instantly lit up again.
"Um, when I first arrived here, JARVIS did a scan right? The unidentified energy bubble surrounding me. That was Artron energy. Time vortex stuff. It leaves a light trail and it fades quickly but sticks to the actual person like glue." She explained and JARVIS downloaded the pattern into the already made cluster recognition tracking algorithm that Doctor Banner had knocked up, giving it something else to track.
"Hey, why is Clara out of her bed?" Bruce asked as he walked in nonchalantly.
"Because Clara has work to do." She retorted with a determined look on her face as she brought up the scans he'd made of her, looking at the tracking algorithm. "We need to test it." She told Tony who nodded, agreeing.
"Bruce, we're testing your cluster recognition. Just switch it off, shut it down completely and turn it back on when I tell you." Nat told him as Bruce sighed, nodding. He had no idea what was going on but he knew to just go along with it.
"Come on." Tony told Clara, helping her along as they got into a car when the doctor came running out.
"Mr Stark, I really don't think this is a good idea! She's still recovering!" She yelled at them as Tony stopped for a moment, thinking it over.
"You're probably right." He agreed as he started to help Clara out.
"No! I'm fine. I can do this! Just let me go!" She began to protest, pulling away from him.
"Clara, do it when you have all your strength." He reasoned as she sighed, letting him help her back to the hospital bed.
"Get me something to do please." She begged finally as Fury walked in.
"No need, got some work right here." He replied and Clara instantly perked up as a table was brought round. It was usually meant for eating but Fury dumped a load empty files and sheets to fill in instead with a pot of pens.
"Does this mean I got the job?" She challenged with a smirk.
"I think you proved yourself more than capable." He acknowledged and she cocked an eyebrow.
"That's not what I meant." She corrected and he laughed.
"I know." He replied, leaving the conversation there as he left the room. He would try not to trust her completely until he had more solid proof that she was trustworthy but it was hard not to. There was just something about her that made everyone trust her. The team had certainly seemed to accept her pretty quickly. Fury knew that he had to be constantly vigilant. He had trust issues, and those trust issues were the only thing that had kept him alive.
"Okay, better get to work. We'll test that cluster recognition in the morning yeah?" She nodded to Tony who nodded in return warily, a little tired with her eagerness to work. He left for a few days, working on his own suits and keeping his company afloat before remembering that he could probably go test out that cluster recognition on Clara if she was feeling better. But the second he entered the room, he couldn't help but stop at the sight of the mess. It wasn't an unruly mess, the paper files had all been filled out and it was all organised and neat but the latest one she'd been working on had been ditched when she had fallen asleep on the table with her hands gripping the edges tighter than they should've been and pulling the desk closer to her.
She began to twitch and something obviously bothered her as she squeezed her eyes shut, as if trying to change something that was out of her control. Tony instantly saw the signs and realised what was happening, fear entering his own countenance to see the effects portrayed through someone else. He tried to ignore the paralysing effect, forcing himself to move forwards and gently massage her shoulders, trying to ease her back into reality. "Clara, Clara." He repeated, whispering to her to get her to wake up but she got just as much a shock waking up as he would have.
Her eyes were wide with fear and a hint of madness obviously having manifested through the lack of proper sleep and coherent thoughts. He also doubted she'd been eating properly but he knew she'd probably found a clever way to disguise that. Maybe tipping it into the bin when the nurse wasn't looking, or divide up the pieces to make them into crumbs and make it look smaller, or whatever she did. But eventually, the lack of energy had gotten the best of her and she fell asleep and victim to the crippling PTSD attacks.
"Clara, don't worry. It's only me." Tony reassured as she tried to take calming breaths, raking a hand through her hair and regaining a sense of memory and geography.
"Tony… thank you." She spoke after a moment, still recovering from the nightmares herself.
"Its okay, it's fine." He smiled, dismissing her reply in favour of trying to think of a solution. It wasn't too hard to figure out that she needed to sleep with Steve again, not even just because he wanted their relationship to blossom but because neither one of them had realised how dependent they'd become on the other and how much they needed each other. It didn't take a genius to realise that.
However, what did take a genius though, was figuring out how to get Steve to man up and talk to Clara again. The super soldier seemed to have the same coping method as Clara and just dug into work and other tasks to keep themselves occupied. It was almost sweet and mostly depressing to watch if you saw the parallels which most residents of Avengers Tower did because they were not stupid.
Straight after he left, Tony marched straight to Natasha in the kitchen. "You need to get Capsicle to talk to Clara, now." He told her as she looked up from her book and cup of coffee.
"Why? What happened?" Nat asked, worry seeping into her demeanour but Tony was too angry to see.
"Clara's having attacks and is working herself to the bone because of it. She needs Capsicle." He summarised and Nat sighed.
"Capsicle needs her too." She revealed and Tony raised an eyebrow. "He hasn't left the gym in days. He doesn't need as much sleep but he's deliberately depriving himself. It's obvious why." She agreed as Tony nodded, just glad that he had her on his side.
"So you'll talk to him?" He clarified and she nodded, getting up and putting a bookmark in the page she was on. She walked down the hallway, straight to the gym and unhooked the punching bag just as Steve was about to take a swing at it. She dodged it so he couldn't hit her either and looked back up to see his agitated and irritated face.
"Rogers, you have to see her." She began, not wasting any time as he rolled his eyes, picking up the punching bag and throwing it to the side.
"No I don't." He growled, beginning to spar with her instead. She didn't miss a beat, using her skills to block instead.
"Yes you do. Look at you." She replied in-between punches. She leaned to the right first before going to the left and back-flipping out of the way.
"I'm fine." He defended and she laughed before using her signature move to grab his neck and pull him to the ground, making him listen.
"You're not but forget that. Pretend you're fine all you want but she's not. And she needs you. You going to let her down Cap?" She challenged and he stopped for a moment, finally giving himself a break as well as Nat. She let him out and they got up together, using each other for support. They stood there for a moment, breathing heavily and regaining their energy before Steve took off towards the medical ward and Nat smirked with satisfaction, knowing her job was done for now.
Steve marched down the hallways, determination set in his stance as he knocked sharply on Clara's door, entering to see her asleep on the board again. "Clara!" He called as he walked in before cursing himself for being so loud. She started to stir and looked up to see Steve standing there.
"Hey Steve, what's wrong?" She smiled sleepily, trying not to fall back asleep.
"Uh, nothing." He smiled awkwardly, cursing himself over and over in his mind as he looked at her.
"You sure? You look a bit… annoyed?" She asked, not being able to place the emotion of complete and utter embarrassment in her tired state.
"No, I'm not annoyed. I just came to check up on you because Tony told me that…" He trailed off as he saw her slight shock and complete embarrassment. "It was back." He finished lamely and she bit her lip as she raked a hand through her hair, trying to think of something good to say.
"Well, I'm not really sure it actually went away." She joked, the words falling flat as she began to mentally curse herself instead. "I mean, it was good for that night but it seems to be coming back. With force." She smiled painfully, not able to think of anything to say.
"So they let you have a shower then?" He spoke after a moment, trying to break the silence that kept suffocating the situation.
"Yeah, I'm really happy about that one." She laughed, both of them continuously smiling to try and diffuse the tension.
"I'm really sorry for the broken foot. I didn't mean for that to happen, I swear." He began to apologise and she shook her head, not having it.
"It's fine. I was the one who went for the shield, you actually saved me. It doesn't matter." She spoke at the same time, both fumbling their apologies before laughing genuinely and the tension seemed to disappear the second they actually addressed the main problem.
"So did you figure out how the Great Intelligence got into Tony's suit?" He asked, sitting on the chair and finally settling down.
"No, I assume it was just another one of his tricks. He won't do it again, it was just a warning. And even if he does, Tony can detect him with the artron scanner we set up. Well, going to set up." She explained as Steve raised an eyebrow.
"Um… in English please?" He joked as she laughed, pushing her work desk away for the first time in two days just like Steve had walked away from the gym. It was much to the pleasure of their friends and to themselves.
"Artron energy is a special sort of energy that only sticks to people who have time travelled like me. It's time energy from the time vortex. Because they made their escape with a vortex manipulator, they've picked it up like me. So we can track them." She explained as Steve nodded along, sort of following.
"So how come it isn't finished?" He asked and Clara sighed bitterly as she looked at her foot.
"It is finished, we just don't know if it works. Because we can't test it without me going somewhere else and right now, that's a bit of a problem." She rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, I can see why." He smirked as she scoffed, pushing his arm gently. It couldn't have hurt him but it was the only retaliation Clara had at the moment seeing as Steve had seemingly no injuries. They sat in comfortable silence, relaxing for the first time in what felt like ages. It was nice for both of them and they got lost in their thoughts. The conversation was started back up when a thought crossed Clara's mind. Well, lingered for a few minutes and then it manifested into an idea.
"Steve… can you sleep with me again?" She asked, broaching the subject tentatively as he looked up at her, breaking out of his own thoughts. "I just think it would help." She reasoned, cursing herself for saying it when he didn't immediately reply.
"No, its fine. Of course. I haven't been sleeping well either." He smiled, stretching the truth a bit. He hadn't been sleeping at all but he could survive. Clara needed a good night's sleep every night to properly function. He didn't and had no problem depriving himself of it.
"Yeah, I tried but Tony found me in the middle of… well he told you right?" She asked, not able to finish the sentence and Steve nodded, both of them relating to the experience.
"You want to catch up on that missed sleep now?" He offered and she laughed, nodding and budging up to let him onto the bed. He took his jacket off and got under the covers with her, wrapping an arm around her. She smiled, closing her eyes and her breathing eventually became slower and evened out as she slipped into sleep. "Don't mess this up." He whispered to himself as he watched with a smile before falling asleep himself, his head resting on top of hers.
Nat walked in on them and smirked, snapping a quick photo to show Tony before quietly slipping back out of the room so she didn't disturb them. Clara woke up first and looked at the position she was in with a small smile. She was practically on top of him, her head resting on his chest with her arms wrapped around him while he had one arm around her as well, the other falling off the bed. It was only meant for one so fitting the two of them was difficult to say the least. Steve was also woken up by an anxious nurse.
"Um, sorry but if you would like to share a bed then we can accommodate for a bigger bed." She spoke kindly as they tried not to blush, looking at each other.
"Um, should we-?" Clara asked as Steve nodded.
"Yeah, um. Sure." He agreed as they awkwardly nodded to the nurse.
"Okay, and would you like to stay in this room?" She asked and Clara nodded, Steve letting her take the reins on this. This wasn't his decision to make, he wasn't the one staying there for a few more days.
"Yes please. It's only a few more days anyway." She shrugged as the nurse nodded with a smile before leaving the room. The silence threatened to suffocate them before Clara and Steve turned to each other and laughed.
"That was probably one of the most awkward conversations I've ever had." She laughed as Steve grinned.
"One of?" He pointed out and she shrugged with a smile.
"Working with kids brings loads of awkward questions." She replied honestly as Steve laughed.
"You work with kids?" He asked and she nodded awkwardly tucking her hair behind her ear.
"Yeah, a nanny and stuff. I got my teaching degree recently but travelling with the Doctor kind of takes up most of your time, you forget you have to actually apply for a job." She laughed as Steve nodded, not as amused. The more he heard about the Doctor, the less he liked him even though all the stuff she said was in praise or fondly. He couldn't understand why she liked him so much when all he seemed to do was ruin her life. He also couldn't understand why he started to feel an acid pit squirm inside him at the mention of the Doctor. Something about him just irked Steve. He couldn't really put his finger on it but the alien only inspired anger inside him. "Steve?" She asked, bringing him out of his thoughts.
"Sorry, I was just thinking." He replied as Clara laughed.
"Great excuse." She smirked as he rolled his eyes.
"Do you have a better one?" He challenged as she crossed her arms, now having moved to sit on the side of the bed, resting her back against the wall and letting her leg dangle off the edge. The one that wasn't in a cast was in a point, sticking up and taking the duvet with it while Steve stayed over by the pillows.
"Depends."
"On what?"
"On what you think is a great excuse." She finished, stumping Steve for a moment and he was silent as he thought and she didn't give him any time to think and come up with any comeback as she laughed. They were silent for a moment before Steve remembered what he had to show her.
"Oh, by the way," He spoke up as he took the small book of stuff to check out from his jacket and showed her all of her suggestions written down on a separate page.
"You remembered them all?" She asked and he shrugged.
"I've got a good memory." He replied as she read through them all with a fond smile.
"We've got to do Cinderella first. It's important." She spoke up after a moment and he laughed.
"If you say so." He agreed and she smiled affectionately at him. She then turned away to cough, not sure Steve would want that in his face and then had to cough again and again and again. Steve watched in growing fear as it then became more violent, shaking her entire body. "Help! Somebody help!" He called as he tried to get closer but she wouldn't let him. "Clara, let me help you." He begged, starting to get really worried as she couldn't help but keep coughing.
Clara herself shook her head, not letting him, trying to get over this random fit by herself. Steve watched for a moment before smashing the button that called the nurse and began to help her bend over, trying to soothe her back and give her some water to soothe her throat. The nurse rushed in and saw this, doing exactly what Steve was doing, except picking her up to be straight as she drank. She then gave her back to Steve, trusting him to do this as she grabbed an oxygen mask from the stand, shooing Steve away from a moment to strap it around her mouth, giving her a bit of time to breathe.
"She needs rest. You can stay but she cannot talk for now, let her rest and breathe. Some of the dust must still be stuck in her throat." She told him as he nodded, bringing the chair for visitors closer to the bed to take her hand and give her a reassuring smile as she breathed slowly, trying to keep calm. Her eyes began to close and her head began to turn as she fell. Steve quickly caught her, turning her 90 degrees and laying her back down on the bed to go to sleep properly. He gently lifted her foot back onto the bed and put the duvet on top before settling for holding her hand and falling asleep beside her. He would not infringe on her personal space, she hadn't allowed him to get into bed with her so he wouldn't. He needed to respect her choices and whatever she wanted.
He couldn't assume that this was a constant situation.
But he did want to assume that he could stay by her side at least, not thinking he could even leave her if he had to. Worry for her wellbeing was consuming him, especially as he still felt guilty for what had happened and knew that he was still partly to blame, despite her trying to absolve his guilt. So he felt like he had to protect her from everything he could, to not only make it up to her but absolve his guilt too.
He would start by being there for her, no matter what.
