Note: This is kind of a Liz heavy chapter, but don't worry she doesn't even interact with Jason. And sorry in advance no Sam this chapter.
Chapter 22: Chapter 22
Hospital
Jason entered General Hospital with his son. Today was the day the he would be complying with the court ordered paternity test, that he just knew, Liz had manipulated out Judge Harper. He couldn't believe that he had to subject his son to this nonsense, once more. How many tests did it take for Liz to accept that he had the right to be in his son's life, that no matter how many times he was tested, it would say the same thing Jake was his son.
He walked up to the nurse's station, "Excuse me, I'm here for the paternity test for my son. Here's the paperwork I received." Jason handed the court order to the Nurse. He watched as she looked it over, then she said, "Follow me Mr. Morgan."
Jason walked behind the nurse, holding tightly to his son. The closer they got to the cubical the more it felt like he was walking to his doom. He looked at his little boy, who was pointing at things and babbling quietly, would he be forced to give him up? Liz wouldn't have lied to him, tampered with medical files just to make sure he believed he had a son, would she? Suddenly he wasn't so sure. After all the things she had done in the past few months he wasn't sure he had ever even known the true Elizabeth. And that thought scared him, if she really had lied to him and switched the tests, then he would lose the son he'd come to love so dearly. He and Sam would suffer another loss of a child and he didn't know if he could stand it.
"OK, Mr. Morgan. Could you set Jake on the table for me?" he set his son in the center of the exam table and watched, "Ok sweetheart this won't hurt one bit." The nurse said. She pulled out a swab and rubbed it against the inside of Jake's cheek. "There we go all done. Now your turn Mr. Morgan, and I need you to sign here, it just shows that you confirm that this child is Jake and you are consenting to your DNA being tested against the boy." Jason did as he was told and then signed the paper.
"How long until we get the results?" he asked her.
"A few days, Judge Harper wanted it rushed and for the test to be watched over by a member of his staff, just to make sure no one tampered with this test. So, after I leave you, these swabs go directly to the lab where a tech is waiting to start testing. You will receive a call when the results are ready to be read by the Judge." She told him.
Jason picked Jake back up, thanked the nurse and headed out of the hospital. He didn't want to be here any longer, he just wanted to be at home with his wife and children. He hugged Jake to himself tighter, fear that he trusted the wrong woman running along his spine.
Ric's Office
"Liz relax, I just got the call. Jason showed up at the hospital with Jake for his test. You'll have your little boy back and safe from Jason's life, soon. And Jason will have to accept these results, the Judge has ordered this test to be monitored and put a rush on them. He wanted to be sure that no one tampered with this test. So even if for some strange reason you decided to 'fix' the results in Jason's favor again, its not going to be possible." Said Ric, giving her a sharp look.
Liz stopped pacing and sighed, "I wasn't sure if Jason would actually show up or if he would get Diane to try and fight the order. I'm not going to change my mind, I can't. As much as I want Jason to be the father, his life, it's just too dangerous right now and it's safer for my son to be Lucky's, just as he has always been. How long until we get the results?" she asked, glancing in Ric's direction.
"A few days." He told her, softly. Ric knew this was hard for her, admitting defeat but the safety of her child should come first. This was a step in the right direction for Liz accepting that Jason didn't belong with her. Maybe he could finally get her to try again with him, now that Lucky and Jason would both be long gone. He knew that their anger for Liz's deceit could be his chance to win her affections again.
"Good, I just want to get this over with. Lucky isn't speaking to me or taking my calls. Once he got that summons for his DNA sample, he said he washed his hands of me and unless Cam needed something not to call him anymore." She frowned, clearly upset. "Oh, Ric, he sounded so mad. I don't know if he'll ever forgive me now." Liz sat down, looking forlorn. Ric walked over to her and sat in the other chair.
"Liz, he spent a year believing that little boy was his, only to have that ripped away and now you've told a judge that you purposefully tampered with a test in order to make sure the father was who you wanted not who it actually was. You've ruined any chance you had of ever getting him back with you if that's what you wanted after this. Lucky has a right to be mad at you, you took his son from him. Oh, sure your trying to give him back but that doesn't change the fact that you played god with his life." Ric took her hand, trying to show her compassion as he told her the cost of her actions.
Her shoulders slumped, "I know that it's just it's hard, Lucky's always forgiven me before. What happens when the test comes back, will Jake be returned to me?" she asked him, hopeful that once the test proves Lucky not Jason was the father, Jake would be returned to her and she could return things to normal.
Ric sighed; she wasn't going to like with he had to say. "He won't be placed with you. I spoke to Judge Harper and he feels that its in the best interest of Jake to place him in the custody of which ever man is confirmed the father." When Liz started crying, Ric pulled her into his arms and then continued, "Since we know what the test is going to say, he'll be placed with Lucky and you will continue your therapy for the remainder of the original ruling. Harper said he wasn't changing that, no matter who the father turns out to be. He is also removing Cameron from your custody and placing him with your ex-husband. Tampering with the test and lying to the judge has had some, shall we say consequences that you didn't count on. I tired to change his mind, but he wouldn't budge. He was really unhappy with you." He told her, trying to be delicate. What the Judge had really told Ric was that his client was a lunatic and if he had any sense, he would get a court order to lock her up and force reality down her throat. The judge had made it clear that once this was done, Ric was not to come to him ever again on behalf of Elizabeth Webber Spencer.
Liz jerked away from Ric, "What? He can't do that; Lucky isn't Cam's father! You can't let them do this, you got to stop them, Ric!" she exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, Liz. Lucky is the only father Cameron knows, you even made a visitation schedule with him during your divorce proceedings, it's on record with the court. Besides, it's already done, there's nothing I can do to stop it. Lucky was informed over an hour ago, he will be picking up Cameron from your Grandmother's house shortly. The judge also wanted me to inform you that in it's because of your little indiscretion with the tests, that he felt that he could not leave him in the care of someone so unstable. Once it is determined that Jake is Lucky's, he will be placed in his care to join Cameron. The judge has decided in all fairness and for the safety of the child, to make Cameron's custody ruling the same as Jake's. Supervised visitation for a year, visits no less than twice a month, and therapy for you. The judge told me himself that he cannot in good conscience remove one child, to only leave the other in the hands of someone who he thinks could potentially put their safety at risk." Ric tried grab her as she sank to the floor crying. Liz was in a hell of her own making, trying to capture Jason's love had cost her, her children. All she felt was despair.
