A/N: I know I said I would do a bit of a time jump, but I thought I would throw this chapter in. This chapter will be from Arizona and Jess's POVs. I know I said these 2 would not be in this story much, but it just kind of evolved on its own Hope you all enjoy.
Arizona's POV
We got the kids down for the night; spent the rest of the evening talking and drinking wine. All in all I would say today was a great day. I may not have chosen to run into Penny at the hospital today, but I think that was years in the making. It was bound to happen sooner or later, now that I will be working here; I was just really hoping to avoid her as much as possible. Jess and I are now in 'our room' getting ready for bed.
"So you really had a good day today?" I ask her as we get snuggled into bed; with my head on her shoulder.
"Yes baby, I did. Meeting everyone at the station was amazing; they all seem like great people. I really think I am going to get along with everyone, especially this guy named Fin! He is so funny and seems to have a great sense of humor"
"Fin? Never heard a name like that before"
"That's just what everyone calls him; it seems to be easier than saying Odafin Tutuola"
"Oh yeah I can see how calling him Fin would be so much easier than that mouth full" I giggle back at her.
"Yeah, they seem like great people there, it's a small group and they seem to have a bond like no other. I was looking over case files today and even gave Fin some information on a case he is currently working on. Seemed to be the break in the case he was looking for"
"Really? That's fantastic babe!"
"It's going to be a little bit different from the cases I'm used to working, but I think it's going to be good"
"They only deal with child abuse and sexual assault cases right?"
"For the most part yes, but they also take on 'most' abuse cases not just the kids; just depends on the case I guess"
"And you really think that is something you can handle honey?" I ask her as I lean up to look her in the eye.
"Well, I'd like to think so; I know sometimes it's going to be rough and I won't lie, I'm not sure how I feel about those kind of cases but Olivia told me to just make sure I let her know when it gets to be too much and to make sure I talk it out and not bottle it all up"
"I think that is some great advice"
"Me to; I want you to know Ari that there may be some cases I just won't be able to talk to you about; obviously any open cases (or at least not tell you much about them). From what I have heard and seen today there are going to be a lot of cases that involve children and I just don't want you to have those details. Olivia said today they always bothered her but more so now that she is a mother; I just can't imagine putting anything like that on your shoulders"
"I understand all that babe, but I also want to you know that you can talk to me anytime about anything. They might be rough to experience or even hear about; but I don't want you to keep them inside either. You will need to talk to someone if it's not me. Please promise me you won't let them eat at you"
"I promise baby, besides Olivia said the same thing to me and it seems this group look after each other out there"
"Well that makes me feel better too" I lean in and gently kiss her lips and snuggle back into her.
We just lay there for a little bit and enjoy each other. She is running her hand up and down my back; with my hand just up her shirt, tracing random patterns on her abdomen. I have a good feeling about this move. It seems like things are starting to finally fall into place for us. I am excited to be closer to Callie and to get to work with her again. I know this move will make Sofia extremely happy; she will be in the same city again as both Callie and I. Neither of us will have to miss out on anything anymore. I'm glad the four of us get along as it sounds like we will be spending a lot of time together. I am curious as to the offer the chief has in store for me. After taking the tour today; I will admit it's a pretty amazing hospital, but what can one expect being in a city this size.
Jess's POV
We just lie here, snuggled into each other enjoying the quiet and just being together. I have to admit it's seems a little over whelming but exciting at the same time. I cannot wait to start, it's going to be different; but I think it will be a good different. The move itself I'm sure will be chaotic but worth it in the end. Arizona and I get a fresh start somewhere new, and that makes Arizona, Callie and Sofia happy. That is all I need to make me happy. The group I met today seems like a great bunch, so don't think there will be any problems fitting in with them. The only things left to do is give our notice at home, find a place to live, get everything packed and moved and then get settled in some where here in this big city. Shouldn't be too hard right? Ha Ha, who am I kidding it's going to be crazy for the next little bit.
"Are you sleeping baby?" I look down and ask Arizona
"No, I was wondering if you were"
"No not yet. So you had a good day today?"
"Oh yeah, it was awesome. The hospital is great, everyone in the Paeds ward seems to know who I am; whether that is from my career or all the news I was in years ago, but I think it will be amazing working there"
"Arizona you're career has been amazing up to this point; don't think everyone only thinks of the bad stuff from years ago when they see you. You have achieved a lot in your career baby, and it's something you should be very proud of; I know I am very proud of you"
"Thanks Jess, but you're biased"
"Maybe so, but doesn't make it any less true. You are an amazing person, an amazing doctor and surgeon. And just an all-around amazing woman baby"
"Aww thanks babe. I love you"
"I love you too baby" I lean down and kiss her lips.
"So, are we really ready for this move and all it entails?" I ask her.
"Oh god yes; I am super excited about it. Why, are you having second thoughts?"
"No baby, none what so ever. I was just making sure we are going into this aware of what all needs to be done, that's all"
"Okay, just checking. I think we are ready; yes it's going to be a lot and will probably get really crazy for a bit with everything that needs to be done, but I think this is the best decision we have ever made; of course other than you saying yes to dating me, being my girlfriend and moving in with me"
"Yeah, besides all that! Ha Ha. I am excited about it too baby; I just wanted to check in with you. I think this will be good for all involved. Sofia gets both her mother's back in the same place, you get your best friend back around and I get it all and get to share it with you"
"While I love the idea of having my best friend back and all, I want to make sure you are happy with this too babe and not just going along for the ride to make me happy"
"Trust me baby, I am good. I think we both need this fresh start somewhere new, plus it will get us both closer to our parents on the East Coast. Maybe we can get out there and see them more once we get settled in. Will also maybe get them to visit more too"
"Okay then, now let's get some sleep because I want to get up fairly early and get a full day in of touring New York once I go to the hospital and talk to the chief"
"Sounds good baby, I love you" I lean down and kiss her and snuggle down for the night with her in my arms.
"I love you too babe"
Arizona's POV
Well today is the day I talk to the chief and see what kind of offer he has for me. I hope it is at least close to what I have back home. I am excited for it all either way but the same position or close to it would be nice. Once everyone has gotten up and we have all had breakfast and get dressed we all head out. Callie is coming to the hospital with me and Olivia and Jess are taking the kids to the park; with Callie and me meeting them there after my meeting.
Once Callie and I get to the hospital she walks me to the chief's office and tells me to just text her when I am done, as she will be 'floating' around here somewhere. We get there and knock on the chief's door; Callie called earlier and told him to expect us soon.
"Come in" we hear from the other side of the door. We make our way in and he stands up and walks around the desk to shake my hand.
"Doctor Robbins, good to see you again"
"You too and please call me Arizona"
"Okay then you can call me Jason. Dr. Torres are you sticking around?"
"No, I am just going to 'float' around the hospital and she can text me when she's done"
"Aright, sounds good" and with that Callie leave us there and heads out.
"So Arizona, what do you really think of our hospital?"
"I think its amazing Jason, but I wouldn't expect anything less considering the size of the city"
"Glad to hear that. I am really looking forward to you working here with us"
"I am too. And again I would like to apologize for yesterday. That was not who I am and I just want you to know that I will not cause any more trouble around here with Penny"
"Arizona please; although you're right it wasn't very professional for a hospital setting, you are not yet employed so; with that said and off the record of course, if it were me I would've done the same thing. I was nearby and heard the entire exchange. I want you to know that she will be dealt with accordingly and that Dr. Torres is right; not all of us see you and see your past. A lot of us here have been following your career as Dr. Robbins not Arizona Robbins that was in that plane crash years ago. You were an attending pediatric surgeon, the chief of fetal surgery, won the Carter Madison Grant Award; on the board of directors after you helped buy the hospital, you were at one point also the chief of pediatric surgery. And so much more I'm sure, and all that at your age. That's remarkable in itself Arizona. So as I said we have been following your career; not your personal life Arizona"
"Wow, I wasn't aware any one was 'watching' me that much"
"Arizona, ANY hospital in this country and I'm sure many others would jump at the chance to hire you. It's not just us here in New York. You have been the topic of conversation from many, many other chief's I have talked to in the past"
"Really? I was unaware of that"
"Surely you know how much you have accomplished in your career Arizona; you would make a great asset to any hospital"
"Thank you Jason, that means a lot"
"Your welcome and its very well deserved. Okay so on to the business end of this meeting. Like I have told both you and Dr. Torres, we would very much love for you to work with us. I know you have an amazing position at home; however this is what I am willing to offer you. Now I know it's probably nothing like what you have back home, but maybe as time goes on, we can work on it" he slides a piece of paper across the desk to me.
I may have a great position at home and enjoy working there but this new change is what is needed at this point in my life/career so no matter the offer, it's something I'm willing to work with. And as he said as time goes on, we can work to improve upon it. I take a deep breath and open it up and take a look. Wow I got to say I was not expecting this!
"Are you for real with this Jason?"
"Very much so, is there something wrong with it?"
"What? No, I just was not expecting this kind of offer right out of the gate. You said as time goes on, we can work upon the offer, I mean after this, how much more can there really be to improve upon"
"Arizona, there is always room to improve. So I take it the offer is agreeable to you?"
"Are you serious? Of course it is! I was not expecting a chief position to start with; I was thinking I would have to work my way up to that"
"Like I said Arizona your resume says it all"
"I didn't give you a resume Jason"
"I don't need a piece of paper Arizona to know you are right for the job. Like I said I; among many others; have been following your career for a long time now. I know you would be a perfect fit here"
"I don't know what to say beside thank you and that doesn't seem like enough" I tell him.
"Arizona, you don't need to say anything; like I said it would be an honor to have you working at part of this team"
"Ok, well I still have a lot to do back home so I hope this offer still stands by the time I can get all that done and get moved and settled here"
"Arizona, the position is yours; I knew it would take some time to get things sorted out back home and then time to get here. The position is yours and will be open in about 2 weeks; however I am sure we can 'run' things for a bit here, so that gives you lots of time to get things done"
"Jason truly, I cannot thank you enough for this opportunity and if you need me in 2 weeks then just say the word and I can make that happen"
"Arizona, yes I am very excited to have you on the team; I would not want you rushing to get things done. Take the time you need to get it all done and then let me know once you are here. I promise we can 'hold things down' in the meantime"
"If you're sure, we are heading home tomorrow so it will be a bit to get everything done, but I will let you know as soon as I get here and we can meet again and go from there"
"Sounds good Arizona, enjoy the rest of your day and I will talk to you soon"
"You will" I get up, shake his hand and walk out of his office. I quickly send Callie a text to see how she is making out. Jason comes running out and offers to walk me to the main entrance, which I accept. Send a text to Callie and tell her to meet me there.
Jason and I sit and just make small talk for a bit while I wait for Callie to finish whatever it is she is up to. As we notice her walking towards us, we get up and shake hands again and Jason heads off.
"Hey, how did it go?" she asks me
"Amazing. I'll tell you all about it once we meet up with the others, then I only got to tell this once"
"Sounds good, you ready to head out?"
"Yes, let's go meet up at the park and enjoy the rest of the day. I feel like I want the 'whole New York Experience' as a tourist today!"
"Of course you do; come on" She laughs and grabs my hand and off we go to meet the rest of the gang.
Today is just getting started and I got to say it's been a pretty great day so far. I imagine the rest of the day will get even better. How can it not; I'll be spending it with the woman I love, my amazing daughter and of course my best friend, in what seems like a pretty damn amazing city. This move is going to be awesome I can just tell! I am so excited. Now to get home and get everything packed up and moved and put in my notice at work; however first things first, today I am going to be a tourist in New York City and not think or worry about anything else until tomorrow!
