Draco doesn't seem so amused when he sees what Charlie brings home. At first, Charlie tries to hide it, but apparently a lump underneath his shirt is more noticeable that he thought it would be. Besides, Charlie's probably not going to be able to hide it forever, so he admits to Draco that, yes, he brought a dragon home.
The dragon is a tiny little thing, barely born two hours ago. His red skin is shiny and smooth, the scales not even developed. For some reason, the mother dragon rejected it, and it's not like Charlie could just leave it to die.
"So you brought it home," Draco says, when Charlie tells him this.
Charlie nods, slowly patting the dragon with a single finger. He needs to think of a name for him. Chinese Fireballs are never so dangerous, and it'll be like they have a pet dog.
"Charlie, dragons get big," Draco says, as if Charlie's not the one who raises them.
"I know," Charlie says, looking up at Draco with puppy dog eyes. "We can move before then."
Draco scoffs, and Charlie holds up the small dragon to him.
"A dragon for my dragon," he says, and the nickname doesn't wipe the unamused look from Draco's face.
"They breathe fire," Draco says next and Charlie scoffs.
"We'll just train him not to breathe fire," Charlie says. Draco doesn't look convinced, his arms crossed as Charlie continues to pet the baby. "Look," Charlie says after a second of silence, "we'll just keep him until he's big enough to go out on his own."
Draco doesn't look too pleased with the idea, so Charlie holds up the dragon for him again. The dragon, as if on cue, cracks open his amber eyes and looks up at Draco. It's not quite puppy dog eyes, but it's cute. With a sigh, Draco gives in.
"What do you want to call him?" he asks.
Charlie grins, forming a list in his mind.
