Chapter 19- "similarities"

(Thuggory perspective)

(after "thinking")

I was sitting on the edge of my bed with a cold cloth over my eyes, every few minutes I would remove the cloth from my eyes to check the mirror to see if my eyes were still red and puffy.

I had learned that the cold helped remove the effect crying had on my eyes a year ago. The village healer had taught me this one day… to this day I wonder why he showed compassion to the crying heap I was, instead of shaming me for crying. Hiccup reminded me of the man, kind and caring and compassionate even when others did not deserve it.

I looked into the mirror and found that the redness was gone from my eyes.

I stood up and walked out the door into the main room of the hut.

I picked up my mace that was leaning against the table and walked out the door.

I walked to the forge and up to the window

"Hey Hiccup." I said

Hiccup acted as though he hadn't heard me

"Oh right" I lightly smacked my forehead

"Hey Enginn." I corrected

He turns around from the sword he is working on right now and looks at me

"Hello Thuggory, what can I do for you?"

"Well I was wondering because I want to go hunting for a night fury and was wondering if you knew where one was?" I said conspiratorially

He raises his eyebrow.

"You know like when we went hunting with Cami yesterday?" I said

"Yeah I remember, are you sure you want to go again? So soon?" he said

"Yeah." I said

"Ok let's go get Cami."

(Cami perspective)

(continuation of Cami's last perspective)

I was about to leave the house to go see Hiccup in the forge when my mom spoke up.

"...but we have to set some ground rules." she said

"Ok…?" I asked slowly in confusion

"Number one you can't trade time with your family for time with Hiccup."

I grinned slyly when I realised a loophole in this rule.

"But me and Hiccup are Betr…"

"Your blood family, Cami." Bertha said sternly

"Fine."

"Once a week."

"Ok."

"And you also have to go to all your classes."

Then she seemed to rethink that rule

"Except stealth training, since you've already used your stealth to get out of the class." she said

"Thanks mom." I said happily as I was about to hug her

"Then there's your chieftess training."

I put my arms down before I did hug her

"You're kidding right?" I asked hopefully

"Nope." she said

"You don't want to be chief?" Tindra asked bewildered

"Well I do but…"

"But what?" Bertha asked

"I don't want to be chief just yet." I said

"You're not gonna be chief till I'm dead or I turn 60!" Bertha laughed

"This is just to teach you how to act for when you are a chief." Tindra said

"I'm sure Hiccup did the same thing when he was younger. In Fact it's really late to be doing this." Bertha said

"Can I go hangout with Hiccup and Thuggory today?" I asked

"I'm sorry Cami, like I said it's quite a bit late to be teaching you this, and the thing is this week.

"How long will I have to learn this?" I asked

"About 3 years." Bertha said

"C'mon!"

"Cami, i'm giving you Mandag, Wodensdag, Fredag, laugardagur and sunnudagr to spend with your friends."(1)

"Fine." I sighed

So mom started teaching me about the blood feuds between different tribes and other such information that I may or may not use.

After a while we heard a knock on the door

"That's probably Hiccup and Thuggory." Bertha said

"Tindra, can you tell them I can't hangout with them right now." I said

"No you go tell them, they're your friends." Bertha said

"Yeah and one of them is your future son in law!" I snapped from the stress of chiefing.

I quickly realised what I said and clapped my hands over my quickly reddening face.

(Thuggory perspective)

(shortly before knocking on the door)

We walked from the forge to Bertha's house and knocked on the door.

There was no answer but the two of us could here a conversation going on inside

Neither of us could hear anything that was said until we heard Cami's piercing voice

"Yeah and one of them is your future son in law!"

I looked over at Hiccup to see his expression. Hiccup looked like a fish out of water and sounded like he was trying to suppress a (pardon the pun) hiccup, a sneeze, a cough and a snort one after the other

I grabbed Hiccup's shoulders and steered him away from the door and towards the forest, after a few moments he snapped out of his trance and avoided any topic involving Cami.

So instead we went to find Toothless.

We made our way to the cove and found a large black mass hanging from one of the branches in a tree.

"Hey bud." Hiccup says

The night fury croons in greeting and jumps down out of the tree.

Then it sees me and wraps his tail around Hiccup protectively while growling lightly at me.

"Ok look I'm sorry."

"I think we got off on the wrong foot." I said as I grabbed the hilt of my mace on my back

The dragon gave a warning growl

I slid the mace off my back and showed the dragon that I wasn't holding it threateningly. I then turned and threw it to the side

The dragon calmed down a lot more. But was still extremely protective of Hiccup

"Bud, if we are gonna make peace between dragons and Vikings we gotta start somewhere." hiccup said mock condescendingly

The dragon groaned in slight irritation and walked up to me

It looked at me expectantly.

Hiccup told me to lift my hand as if I was going to give the dragon a High five

I did so and looked to the side.

I felt the huffing of his warm breath on my palm, then after a minute of silence I felt the even warmer sensation of the dragon's snout in my palm.

I looked up to see the dragon's eyes boringing into my soul.

I let my eyes reveal my intentions to the dragon; I would never hurt Hiccup or Cami intentionally.

The dragon realized this and stopped glaring and actually seemed to like me.

We got much closer than we intended, so much so that the dragon took me for a short flight without waiting for permission from me or his own rider.

It was a short flight but the dragon showed me his entire personality in those short few minutes; the dragon puts on a show of being strong and powerful, but when no one is around except the people he genuinely likes he acts playful and cuddly like a dog!

I realized me and the dragon are more similar than I thought. We both have to be strong and brave for everyone, but around the people we really trust we open up our true selves; him the playful comedic puppy, and me the sobbing mess in denial.

Me and the dragon came to an understanding during that flight; both of us would give our lives for those we love.

Now I realize why Hiccup saved Toothless.

I know that if I had to choose between saving the life of a meathead and Toothless I would have to pick Toothless, hiccup and him have opened my eyes to how dragons really are. They aren't the mindless beasts we thought they were, instead they are highly intelligent and loveable creatures.

Toothless and me landed back in the cove after a few minutes

To find a distressed Hiccup freaking out about Toothless practically kidnapping me!

"I'm so sorry he's not usually like this…" he said starting to babble

I put my left hand on Hiccup's right shoulder and my right hand on top of Toothless' head.

"Hiccup. It's fine. Me and Toothless kind of connected during that flight."

Toothless crooned in agreement

Hiccup looked at the two of us with a jealous expression on his face.

"Awww you found someone else to pamper you?" Hiccup asked

The dragon just laughed.

Double meaning title again! Yeah *jazz hands*

meaning one: Thuggory thinks that Hiccup and the late meathead healer are very similar.

meaning two: Thuggory also realizes that him and Toothless are very similar.
