Part 1: Neo Cortex Saga - The Cortex Commandos Arc Ch. 14 Mafioso Capone
- Author Note: Sorry for the break, didn't want to get burned out on writing and considering my writing skills are not the best, I have a hard time thinking up ways for the chapters to play out, not to mention this started as a thing I do out of boredom. So bear with me! :)
With Mafioso Galante defeated and the First Power Generator taken care of, Team Bandicoot proceeds to the Western Power Generator. After entering the building they activate a trap door and fall down into a cage where they meet Mafioso Capone, The Jailor. Crash tries punching the bars of the cage but is shocked by electricity. Capone explains to the trio that they have no where to run and that they will fight his strongest mutant henchmen, consider it payback for Galante. Crash asks Aku Aku if his invincibility powers are ready, but he says they won't be back for a few more hours. Crash asks Capone for a Negotiation, Capone is intrigued but tells them that negotiating will get them nowhere and that they will be released into the arena soon.
A hour passes and the trio are released into the arena below them, they encounter several of Capone's Henchmen waiting for them. Capone explains that these henchmen have been mutated by a potion developed by Doctor N. Brio. Crash points out that the monsters seemed mindless. Crash asks Coco if these minions will be easy to take care of. Coco recalls overhearing one of N. Brio's thinking aloud sessions, explaining how he had perfected a mutant potion and that even he doesn't know what the consequences of taking it into the body are or a way to stop it. Crash decides to do what he does best and charge up a Mojo Punch, surprisingly dealing damage to the mindless mutant henchman. Coco wonders if Mojo is a hard counter to the Potion's effect, telling Crash to continue what he was doing. As Capone observes Team Bandicoot's struggle, he receives a call from Pinstripe who asks him how the encounter is playing out. Capone not wanting to piss off Pinstripe, refrains from mentioning the fact that Team Bandicoot have found a way to defeat the Mutants and explains that all is going to plan... so far. Pinstripe tells him to call him back when the Bandicoots are dealt with.
Capone nervous, remembers he had special potions still left in storage given to him by N. Brio. He gathers up the remaining henchmen that are not fighting and injects the contents of the potion into the already mutated bodies. Capone not knowing what the effects of such an action would be, exits the room and watches through one of the monitors in his control room. One of the mutants is set ablaze but is able to spew out fire; another one is frozen all over but can manipulate water and turn it into ice; and the third one has hardened skin, perfect for combating the Mojo abilities of Crash Bandicoot. Capone smiles and orders the three mutants to enter the arena. As Crash finishes the remaining mutant, he is tired a bit and sits down on the ground, but not long after the three enhanced mutants enter the arena. Crash understands that he won't have time to rest and prepares to go on the offensive, now with the aid of Aku Aku. Crash asks Aku Aku to transfer some of his Mojo to him, Aku Aku does so and attacks the Hardened Mutant. Crash notices he didn't leave a scratch in his skin and the Mojo gets reflected back at him, pushing him into a wall and coughing up blood. Coco quickly rushes to Crash, but her path is blocked by the Flame and Ice Mutants. Aku Aku asks Crash if he is alright, with Crash replying with that this is nothing and gets back up on his feet.
What awaited the trio were their most powerful enemies yet and this gets Crash pumped up, excited for the challenge of facing them. The battle is on! Crash still recovering from the Hardened Mutant's blow, starts charging up a normal punch, and surprisingly he is strong enough to leave a dent in its skin and damage it. Crash immediately notices that the Hardened Mutant is nothing against his normal punches. As Crash unleashes a barrage of punches, Coco is avoiding the attacks of the Flame and Ice Mutants. She takes out her Wumpa Rocket Launcher and starts firing at the Ice Mutant, but to no effect. Aku Aku notices that he doesn't have a choice but to reveal a forbidden Mojo technique passed on in the Ancients Tribe, the Spirit Break. Aku Aku asks Coco to stall for time until he fully charges up the Spirit Break, saying that if he can get the two mutants near each other it will be a one shot kill, but he will be unconscious after that for a week. Coco and Crash ask if that is really necessary, because they don't know what enemies they might face after these mutants are dealt with, Aku Aku tells them to trust him. While Crash deals the finishing blow to the Hardened Mutant, Coco is stalling for time, trying to get the two Mutants close to one another. Several minutes pass and the Spirit Break is complete, everything goes as planned and the three Enhanced Mutants are defeated. Capone's jaw drops and immediately tries to escape, as he ran to the exit door he is met by Crash with a menacing smirk, punching Capone in the face, leaving him unconscious. Crash and Coco, who is carrying the unconscious Aku Aku leave the Western Power Generator and set out for the last one at the northern side of the island, just across the polluted river where Pinstripe's base is stationed.
