Huh. Tanzania. To be fair, I've never been to Africa, and I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing. The closest I got was Israel. Considering half of South Africa is moving to New Zealand or Europe due to the racial crime rate, it might be a good thing. Being middle-class and white is pretty scary over there. Still, going on safari could be fun. Zebras and giraffes are among my favourite animals (though the Indian jungle could have been cool, too). But then again, the creature they're hunting isn't African. But, y'know, it's not Ezekiel either, so you could do worse. Yeah, remember that he's not hiding on the plane in this version? He went home, went on the Aftermath and started writing raps about how blonde surfers with boyfriends are a bummer (and if you don't know what I'm talking about, his WT bio said his dream date was Bridgette).
Thanks for reviewing, OmniUIShaggyOverexaggerated, wacky620 and DerrickLindsey (yes, but Emma insisted on prepping and Noah said he was trying to act like her, so insisting on eating wouldn't impress her – he should have insisted on prepping, and it didn't work anyway because Emma missed that he was copying her and told him off, saying he was being mean to Owen).
I waited until Noah was asleep before I confronted Alejandro. We didn't disturb Noah – we just went to the cargo hold and talked.
I decided to cut to the chase. "I know I shouldn't have been shocked. But...why did you do it? Why didn't you just try to eat the food? You weren't exactly on the chopping block last episode."
Alejandro held my gaze with his green eyes. "Jemma, I know I broke your trust. But you must know that no one is good at everything. I...I just couldn't. I choose what I put into my body very carefully, and I couldn't compromise that, but I also couldn't stand to lose. I thought about asking you to help me, but I knew you wouldn't want to eat. You must understand – this is a game. Winning means a lot to me."
"But a game has rules." I protested. "I don't think it's okay to cheat, even if eating contests aren't your thing. Like I said, you weren't in danger of going home yesterday. I voted for Cody. So did Lindsay."
"And I overheard you talking about it, so I did too." Alejandro said flatly. "Cody voted for Sierra, even though he knew she had invincibility, and I have a suspicion that she and Noah voted for me. So I was in danger of going home. You must understand how frightening that feels." He took hold of one of my hands. "I swear, yesterday was a one-time deal. I would never do it, usually. Please, Jemma? Please forgive me?"
I couldn't stay mad at those emeralds, really. So I agreed. "Okay. I'll let it slide." And then we spent a good hour in the cargo hold, cuddling and talking. We knew about the cameras, so we didn't go any further. I must have fallen asleep in there, though, because when I next came to, I was back in Economy class, leaning against Alejandro, who was still awake.
Alejandro smiled at me. "Have a good 'eye rest', my little Briar Rose?"
I didn't get the reference at first. "Sleeping Beauty?" he reminded me. "That was her name in some versions."
"Oh." I giggled. "So I look beautiful when I sleep, huh?"
"No, you look cute." Noah teased from across the room. "And quiet. At least you can go a few hours without laughing at everything."
Well, I giggled at that one. "Why would I want to do that, Noah? Just because you can say funny things with a poker face doesn't mean I want to."
I went to the confessional after that. "Things are really getting tense on the plane now. I guess it's the Final Five, but up until the merge, I didn't feel anxious. Now three people have gone. I know Lindsay will stick with me, but I'm not all that close to Sierra, and I'm not sure how Noah feels about me at all. And I don't know how to feel about Alejandro, now. I know he's not above cheating. What if he's lying to me?" I shook my head. "I'm trying to convince myself he's not, but there's this little voice in my head doubting, and I can't shut it up. I guess I'll just have to do what I can and take it one second at a time for the moment."
It was true. I still really liked Alejandro, but I couldn't quite trust him completely. If he was happy to cheat when he wasn't really in that much danger, what lengths would he go to if it looked like he was going to lose?
Oh well, I'd just have to wait. There was nothing I could do, when I didn't even know if he was going to do anything I needed to notice.
Our next destination was actually in a place in the Southern Hemisphere, so it was summer there. But somehow, I knew it would always be hot here, no matter what the weather was.
Chris wore traditional clothes, as usual. "Welcome to beautiful Tanzania," he announced, "Home of the Serengeti plans, and over seventy different kinds of animals that can kill you."
I couldn't keep my mouth shut. "Are we going on safari?" I asked excitedly. "Or at least, something related to that?"
Chris shushed me, starting by explaining the first part of the challenge, which wasn't safari. No, instead, we had to combine cricket and soccer. First, each of us would run to get as many of these African-grown plums as possible and get back to where we started one by one, while everyone else kicked soccer balls at us. Then, we'd use cricket bats to hit our plums towards gourds. Whoever broke one first got an advantage.
I had a bad feeling about this. I wasn't bad at soccer when we had to play it, but I couldn't play cricket to save my life.
Sierra went first, and did okay avoiding Lindsay's clumsy kick and Noah's tiny tap, and she managed to skip over my attempt. However, Alejandro managed to kick one that knocked most of her plums out of her arms.
Lindsay wasn't much better. Sierra was better at kicking than avoiding, and Lindsay tripped over hers on the way there, and Alejandro got her on the way back, although she kept a few more plums than Sierra.
I went next, watching warily. I knew Noah and Lindsay wouldn't be too good, but Alejandro and Sierra would be good, and I still wanted to vote out Sierra next.
I managed to skip over Sierra's on the way in, but I kept my eyes on Alejandro while I ran back. When I was a metre away from the finish line and I still had all my plums, I took my eyes off him for seconds.
And a few plums rolled out of my arms as a soccer ball hit me in the stomach. Still, I kept most of mine.
Noah wasn't that good a kicker, but he managed to dodge all the soccer balls except Alejandro's, and even then, he didn't lose any of the plums he picked up. His style of running was methodical, carefully watching everyone else, as if he was able to plan his dodges.
Alejandro, though, was in a league of his own. He calmly walked most of the way. Whenever a soccer ball came at him, he just kicked it back at the player. I got it right in the stomach, again. I couldn't help wondering what colour my bruise would be. No matter where I was sleeping tonight, I would have to wear my T-shirt with my sleep shorts, even if it was just me and Lindsay in First Class (just to be clear, I'm bi rather than straight but I have never actually crushed on a girl outside of Taylor Swift and Chilli – one of the girls from TLC, so no probs with a girl I just considered a friend).
The cricket was even harder. Sierra, luckily, had terrible aim, and Noah's plums rarely went far enough. Lindsay was surprisingly good with her aim, but she didn't seem to actually be able to break a gourd. Alejandro was the first to break one, and then, Chris gave us only a few more seconds. I managed to crack mine, but only when I lost control of my bat, let it go, and it cracked a gourd.
Before we could get our reward, Chris decided to show us what we were doing for the next challenge. An intern wheeled a cage towards us, from where there was loud growls coming.
You know what had happened ? They'd somehow kidnapped a black bear from China and brought it here, and now we had to try and catch it. So...I guess kind of a safari thing?
As it was, each of us got a reward. All of us except Sierra received a slingshot and a number of little balls that had tranquilizers in them. Alejandro got six, I got three, Noah and Lindsay got two and Sierra got one. We were meant to try and throw them at the bear. The one that got it under control won.
Sierra was a little worried about not having a slingshot.
"You'll just have to throw the ball hard enough to make it burst," Chris told her, "Which will be hilariously unsuccessful, I'm sure."
Sierra paused, staring at the ball in her hand. Then she shrugged. "Whatever. I don't really care now anyway, now that Cody's not here any more."
That was interesting. It looked like I might have a ticket to the final four.
I won't bore you with what happened. Nothing very special happened, apart from when we all accidentally shot each other with our tranq balls and ended up having to sing about waking up from where we were hit. This was especially bad for Sierra, who got hit in the mouth and could barely make it move. I got it in the gut for the third time (seriously, was everyone trying to tenderize it?), so my limbs were pretty okay, but I couldn't feel my middle.
As it was, Alejandro used this bush of berries that had juice that apprently were scented like blood. The bear must have caught the scent, and got close enough for him to shoot it.
After that, everything happened as I predicted. Lindsay and I agreed to vote for Sierra, and Alejandro was immune. I don't know who the others voted for. There was one vote for Noah, one for Lindsay, and one other for Sierra. That was enough.
"Thanks, guys." Sierra said with a wavering smile, taking the parachute pack. "I wanted to win for Cody, but I feel like I kind of lost motivation. Maybe I'll be able to come back for another season later. But I guess this season wasn't meant to be mine." She managed a smile. "Still, even if I don't come back, this was totally worth it, just to find out what being on Total Drama was like. And-" her grin became mischevious, "If nothing else, I got a tonne of stuff to write on my blog, as well as a couple new contestant profiles to write. Bye!" Then, she hopped out of the plane, screaming all the way.
You may have guessed that the second Cody had left, Sierra would soon follow. She was a fierce competitor, but her drive was for Cody. And for whatever reason, she lost her spirit to win when he left, maybe because she didn't expect it. There were two ways it could have gone – it could've made her more determined to win, or made her lose motivation entirely. Because of the way I wanted things to go, I chose the latter. Hope you don't mind. Sierra seems to be a love-or-hate character, and I know some people would've liked her to leave earlier, but I felt this was just the right time.
Another short chapter, but it's a meh episode. That's why I had that running gag of Jemma getting hit in the stomach, to give some more interest with a lot of the main plots originally in this episode unable to function. Hopefully I can make the next one longer, since it was one of my favourites.
Also, you got a fun piece of trivia: Jemma's celeb crushes were T-Swift and "Chilli" (real name Rozonda Thomas – she's gorgeous in the pics, but then the other two are, too).
