Far Cry Fic
Chapter 17 :
The Seeds worked quickly knowing the first part of breathing in Bliss would be sedation. John gently put a mask on her face so she would not breathe in anymore of the flowers' seeds/spores around her then him and Jacob took her shoulders and feet into their hands, lifted her and started to move her back to the safety of her cabin.
Joseph and Faith followed behind, Joseph looked tense as he rubbed his hands together.
"You are very sure that breathing in the bliss will not harm her or hurt our son?" Joseph asked Faith with worry in his voice.
Faith nodded, "I promise she nor your son will be harmed. I went over this with our chemists many times. The bliss will cross her blood-brain barrier but is not strong enough in the flowered state to cross the protections of the placenta and womb," she explained to him. "We had to do this Joseph, if she is going to call for changes...then we had to make sure she is on the up and up," she reminded him.
Joseph sighed, "I know you are right but...we have doubted her and therefore doubted God. I'll be honest, I fear her reaction once the bliss has left her system. This is the third time we have drugged her," he frowned deeply.
Faith took one of his hands in hers and gave it a warm squeeze. "We'll deal with that. For now lets concentrate on getting the information we need and make sure she is as comfortable as she can be," she told him.
He nodded and they headed into Mary's cabin. Joseph and John placed her gently on the bed. Mary, now mostly knocked out but still conscious, cuddled into the very soft sheets and pillows of the bed...almost swimming as her breathing eased. Faith handed Joseph a backpack of supplies then the siblings left, leaving Joseph and Mary alone.
He sat on the edge of the bed near her head and sat the backpack on the floor after grabbing a few bottles of water out of it. Reaching out to her, his hand petted the top of her head, he smiled as he watched her enjoy the softness of the bed with her eyes closed.
He looked around once more then got something small out of his back pocket, two things actually. One was a very small voice recorder that he turned on and sat on the nightstand. The other item was a bottle of pills he put in the first drawer of said nightstand.
"Mary..My Mary, open your eyes," he told her gently.
Mary turned her head towards his voice and did so, her black pupils large and telling him she was indeed under the influence. A smile came over her face, the beginning stages of the drug could be a lot like taking MDMA (pure MDMA), and she was feeling it.
"Hi..." she whispered.
"Hello," he chuckled, "how do you feel right now?" he asked.
"Mmmmm..." she mused, her arms and legs still 'swimming' along the bed as she laid on her back. "I feel good."
Joseph nodded, "Good, I'm glad. This is important...are you angry with me right now?" he asked.
Her head slowly shifted from side to side then stopped, "not really. I know I should be...but I don't feel angry or mad," she told him. Bliss had truth serum affects so this was the truth. Mary then giggled and started to sing, "I feel loooooovvveeeeeeee," her beautiful voice carrying a lovely tune.
He couldn't help but laugh softly again, "I'm glad. I'm taping this so you can listen to it later but I want you to know...I did not want to do this to you again. I trust you...tho others do not but I had to reassure them somehow. You remember the hill where the flowers were? Where we sat and looked at the sky a little big ago?" he asked her.
Mary nodded, "Yes, it was nice."
"It was. Earlier this evening, I went to that same spot and kicked around the flowers to knock the seeds/spores I could before taking you there. You are under the influence for sure but...I did TRY and make sure you wouldn't be affected as much as our people are usually," he tried to explain to her in her state. "Do you understand, Mary?" he asked hopefully.
Mary nodded again with a big smile, "you care about me, you didn't want to hurt me or our son, I understand," she said in a soft voice.
"Both of those things are true," he told her firmly. He motioned for her to sit up against the headboard, helping her do so, and handed her a bottle of water. "You must stay hydrated," he told her.
"You're smart," she giggled and took some big gulps from the bottle. She was handing the bottle back to him when she felt 'kicks' in her stomach. Mary put her hand on her stomach and gasped at the kicked, her brain just noticing/remembering she was 6 months pregnant. "Oh my gosh...I'm pregnant?" she asked with a big goofy grin.
"Yes you are," Joseph grinned back, "with a boy."
Her eyes went wide, "Ohhh wow, that's cool! We're having a boy," she cooed, her brain instantly thinking they were together.
Joseph wanted to correct her but, hearing her say that made his heart beat a bit harder. "Yes, yes we are," he told her, his hands joining hers to rub her tummy.
Mary's hands moved to hold the sides of his face, making Joseph jump in surprise but he quickly melted. She pressed her forehead against his and bumped her nose against his. "I'm so happy, this is what I always wanted...and I'm happy its all with you," she purred against his lips.
Joseph had to focus on her eyes to keep from many emotions coming out at once since he was supposed to be strong for her right now. But with Bliss's truth serum-esque affects, he knew Mary would be hard-pressed to lie right now. There was a VERY good chance anything she said was exactly what she was thinking and how she as feeling.
"Are you sure of that My Mary? We have done wrong by you...a few times," he admitted. "I fear you are tricking us and you still plan to up and leave," he told her.
Mary pulled back from his face and shrugged at his words. "I still want to leave...well, a part of me does," she shrugged. "Hell, I probably would be actively doing so but, you seem to be listening to me or at least trying to take what I say into consideration. I worry about your siblings tho," she said as she moved back to sit on the bed and cover herself with the blanket while sitting up.
Joseph held back his chuckle as she pulled the blanket over top of her head like it was nothing. He moved to sit on the edge of the bed and pulled the blanket away from her face but kept her in the 'blanket burrito' state otherwise.
"Hi," she giggled.
"Hello again. So, you're saying...as long as I try to see things your way, you'll stay?" he asked curiously.
She nodded, "Yes...stop hurting people in order to convert them. You have a lot of followers and even some power. You're good dude, stop trying to take over every-damn-thing," she told him.
He nodded, "Is that the only reason you're staying?"
Mary shrugged, smiled and reached out to pinch his cheek playfully, "nah, you're kinda cute and you have this...presence about you that I dig," she admitted as if it was nothing. "Plus...it's not like I have a lot of men offering to be my baby's daddy," she frowned.
Her frown hurt him. Gently, he pulled her head to his lap and pulled his fingers thru her hair, practically causing her to purr as her eyes closed peacefully.
"You do not have to worry about that, our son will be raised with both parents. 2 loving parents, an Aunt who will adore him and 2 Uncle who will teach him much," he told her.
"I do not trust your brothers and I am on the fence about Faith," she said out of the blue.
"Really?" he asked, interested.
She nodded, "your brothers don't like me, they don't want me here and because of them, I'm having trouble trusting Faith."
Joseph nodded, "my brothers have been less than welcoming, your feelings are valid. I will talk to them," he told her and kissed her forehead.
Mary's eyes opened and looked up to him. Her eyes fluttered then squinted some. "You have a beautiful light around your head, you're glowing..." she whispered. Tears started to fall from her eyes. "I don't want to be here anymore," she whimpered, sitting up some so she could bury her face into his neck while her arms wrapped around him.
His arms squeezed around her and he rested his chin on the top of her head. "Do not be afraid of God's Light, Mary. He could be telling you something or..it could be the glow from the setting sun outside your window. Do not fear it," he told her warmly.
Her tears eventually stopped and Joseph realized she had fallen asleep. He laid her down and covered her up then moved next to her in the bed with his legs stretched out, convicted on watching her until she woke up or when the bliss was out of her system.
The talk had been good. He had found out what he wanted to find out. Now...he awaited the after math.
