Lexie was 35 weeks pregnant when Callie and Sofia were discharged. They had each spent twelve weeks in the hospital before they were able to go home. It had been three weeks since she had given Mark her ultimatum, and they hadn't spoken since. He hadn't even tried to contact her.
As far as Lexie was concerned, this was for the best. Their relationship was clearly over, never to be rekindled. As heartbroken as she was, there was also a sense of relief. She had spent her entire pregnancy fighting with Mark, instead of enjoying it. She had spent it angry and hurting instead of excited and joyful.
With her son due in just five weeks, she decided that he would be her sole focus outside of her job. She had already placed the small yellow bassinet April had given her at the baby shower next to her bed. The crib was up against the wall, and she had spent the entirety of the previous weekend painting the decorative letters that spelled out the name she had chosen for her son above it. She had arranged the numerous stuffed animals in the crib in a way that allowed them to cushion the sides and back of the wooden crib, wanting to be prepared even if her son wouldn't be sleeping in it for a while.
She had successfully transformed her room into a mini nursery, and while it wasn't exactly what she had originally planned for, it still made her smile every time she saw it.
Resting her palm on her swollen belly, she smiled as she felt her little boy kicking inside her. "I love you so much my sweet boy. Despite everything that has happened, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. Mommy can't wait to meet you."
