Chapter sixteen:
Mello, Near and Matt are in the living room together. Mello and Matt are sitting in some rather chill looking postures on either side of Near. They are watching the tv that they have in said living room. They have the news on right now to make sure that they're caught up with recent events.
"There are two dead from the most recent bomb being set off. Police have not released their names. But our reporters were able to get some information. One who didn't hear the alert of the bomb due to headphones. Another who it is believed wandered in after everyone had ran out." The news caster explains to those viewing from the station.
Mello eyes turn to look at Near taking in his reaction.
Near tenses slightly and his eyes shift downwards. He tries to keep his composure as best as he can. Though he knows that he is alone with the two he trusts most in this world. He feels like he can relax more around them. He just tries to push away his thoughts about if they could have saved those two people.
Mello reaches over to place his hand gently upon Nears shoulder. His action causes the platinum haired boy to turn to the blonde. He tries to give the other some comfort with an assuring smile.
Near flashes a grateful smile for a moment then slightly turns away. He tries to not worry them by keeping his feelings of the tragic deaths pushed away.
Though its not like he has to do this as the other two would still be able to read his emotions by the slightest of movements.
Near just feels like he doesn't need to bother them with it right now on their break from working on case files.
Mello doesn't like seeing Near in this sort of state. He understands that the other had been hoping to hear that there were no casualties. He just wishes that the other would be thankful that it wasn't a larger number of people. He is about to say something when Matt speaks up before he could.
"Well just be thankful that we didn't lose anymore people." The red head remarks in which the blonde looks at him.
Mello almost wants to sigh. He figures of course Matt was paying attention. He should have remembered that the other may be wearing goggles, thoughts still pays attention. He is well aware that Matt can read Near as good as Mello himself can.
They've been a trio for long enough to learn a lot about each other after all.
"Yeah. It was a small casualty." Mello looks to the Tv as the news moves on to some other stuff. "The relief lies in the fact that so many others managed to make it out just fine." He hopes that Near will indeed take comfort in their words. He wants the other to feel better about the situation.
"Yeah." Near slightly softly agrees though he still feels a bit downhearted at losing two people. He raises his hand on Matt's side and twirls a piece of his hair on his finger.
Light makes it home after his park date with L. He is smiling happily and can't wait to tell Sayu about this. He knows that she'll be happy to hear that he's happy with someone. He also feels that since she met the raven haired male already she'll approve. He wonders what exactly she'll say. He wonders if she'll just grin, freak out, brighten like opening the blinds in the morning, or maybe be all over him in happiness at hearing this. He notices a familiar car though a part of him is hoping that it isn't what he thinks it is. He heads inside and immediately looks to the shoes. He notices an extra two pairs of shoes. He almost scoffs upon seeing that.
Of course. Of all days to come back for a little bit they had to pick today.
Light takes off his shoes and heads further into the house. He spots his parents in the living room. He can tell they are talking a bit on the couch. He tries to head past to head to his bedroom. He stops at the bottom of the stairs when he is spoken to.
"Ah Light. Good to see you. How have things been?" His mother greets him with an offered smile of friendliness. She keeps her eyes looking at where Light is standing. Her head slightly turned to look over her shoulder at her son.
Light almost wants to retort that he really doubts that the smile is genuine. "It's fine." He could really just go off on them about not being here for him or his sister. He knows that his parents aren't caught up with how old their kids actually are, so he wouldn't care if they tried to ground him for snapping at them. He just sometimes wonders if them not being here all the time is actually for the best.
"Oh. Well that's good to hear." His mother gives a slightly polite nod.
"Im going to my bedroom. I just got home." Light starts to head up the stairs however what his father says next makes him pause.
"You got yourself a girlfriend yet? You should really get yourself a girlfriend."
Light clenches his teeth and fist. He can love whoever he chooses. He barely keeps himself from saying that it's his decision. He doesn't want to start any kind of argument right now with either of his parents. "If I fall in love I fall in love." He tries to dismiss it not feeling like making today bad. He wants to focus on the happiness of being able to date L who he loves. He heads right to his room shutting the door behind himself. He shuts it firmly yet not slamming. He lets out a breath finally in his room. He'll let himself get settled back home then go find Sayu to share the good news. He sits down on his bed letting himself relax in the privacy of his room. He'll leave to find his sister in just a little bit here.
