A number of small stealth-craft transport the Bridger family, Kestis family, Finn, and the strike team to the icy surface of Yavin IX, where the soldiers begin to advance on the Dominion facility. As they approach the base and the Rebel fleet appears overhead however, the Bridger family gets a concerned look. They turn to the others, and Finn & the Kestis family sense it too.

Then, all around them, a number of light-sabers ignite in the darkness and blaster fire erupts from the forest. The commandos start taking cover and returning fire as the rebel fleet moves to engage the Dominion forces.

A number of additional star destroyers enter hyperspace, releasing hoards of TIE fighters. Leia realizes that it was a trap.

From the bridge of the Sovereign, Thrawn directs his forces to surround and destroy the rebels.

The ground combat quickly devolves into a massacre, as the rebel squads are surrounded by the Knights of Ren and Captain Phasma's commandos. Several of the knights go down to blaster fire, demonstrating their weakness in the force.

The rebel ships are taking serious losses, but they are unable to jump away because of the presence of a Dominion vindicator-class cruiser. Poe contacts the other fighters that he is going in for an attack on the cruiser.

Ezra is directing forces, with his two children, to fall back, with the Kestis family, Seventh Sister, and Finn following them.

Ezra cuts through several stormtroopers, then a knight, but then he notices Kylo Ren approaching him. Ezra and Kylo fight shortly, but it is clear that Ezra's age is making him outmatched. When Kylo is about to kill him. Ahsoka and Kanan come to their father's rescue. Ahsoka slashes at Ren, distracting him for a moment, but then he blocks her swing and force pushes her into a tree. Kylo then turns his attention to Kanan.

"Kanan Bridger..." Kylo says menacingly, pushing his saber close to Kanan. Kanan is struggling. "You should have joined me when you had the chance..." Kylo continued.

"I'll never join you!" Kanan yells.

With Kylo distracted by Kanan, Ezra force pushes Kylo away, protecting his son.

Cal, Seventh, Finn, Teron, Ilyana, and Trilla come to their position after disarming a good amount of the troopers and knights. Seventh helps her daughter up.

Kylo gets up as his remaining knights come behind him for assistance.

Just as Kylo and his remaining knights are approaching however, a blast from above strikes the ground nearby and most of them are thrown aside.

The Jedi see the Falcon fly overhead. They hurry back to the landing site with the surviving troops. Poe then lands the Falcon. while Phasma's commandos press in on all sides. Then with the Jedi and the last of the survivors on board, they lift off while an injured Kylo discards his damaged mask, staring angrily at the fleeing ships.

Back on the Alderaan, much of the rebel fleet is already lost and their own hyperspace engines have been disabled. Amidst the chaos, Leia orders all power to be directed to the forward shields and thrusters, aiming the vessel straight towards the vindicator. The crew pause for a moment, realizing what she intends to do, before hurrying to carry out her orders.

She then gives orders to abandon ship, with only herself remaining behind. As the rest of the crew races to the shuttles and escape pods, Leia remains on the command deck, while those on the Falcon see her ship accelerating towards the cruiser. They looked on with a mix of horror and admiration.

The crew of the vindicator are struggling to move the ship out of the way, but their actions are in vein. Before the collision, Leia closes her eyes and hears an echo-like voice from Luke saying, "It will not end with you..." Leia then opens her eyes smiling. The ships then collide in a massive explosion.

The remaining rebel ships go off to hyperspace.

"Leia..." Seventh and Ezra whispered somberly.

The rest of the Jedi and Finn felt the pain also.

"No... Leia!" Kanan yells.

Ahsoka puts her head down, about to cry.

Ezra and the Seventh Sister embrace their children.

Finn and the Kestis family appear shaken.

Poe sees their faces, saying, "Leia... she gave her life for something greater than herself, greater than any of us... We have to make that mean something."
