Hello everyone!

I am here with another Better Circumstances update. This chapter is kinda small - Edgar's ex starts to pop up; she ain't causing too much trouble yet but she probably will (truthfully I'm going with the flow so your suggestions are welcome lol). Also, we have over 300 reviews and I thank you all for them. You're all amazing and thank you for constantly encouraging me to continue this fic. I was really not expecting all the love for this fic; I was expecting it to be a one-shot and be done. But here we are, reaching chapter 19. Thank you guys, so very much.

Okay I'm done being all mushy lol here's chapter 19.

Enjoy xo

Better Circumstances

NINETEEN

Following a Thursday that was spent chasing leads relating to a case they were working, Friday rolled around and brought clouds and rain. Olivia had woken up in a strange mood and with a feeling like this day was going to be ridiculous, but she tried to just power through because as soon as the day was over, she would have a date night that she so desperately needed. After dropping Noah off at school, she grabbed a coffee from her favorite café then headed to work. As soon as she walked in, Kat and Amanda were headed off to pick up a perp that they'd all had their eyes on, and Fin was waiting in Olivia's office to give her an update about something else. Olivia was just hoping that this whole day would fly by as she was already over it.

And when the afternoon rolled around, she truly knew that shit was about to hit the fan.

She and Fin had the owner of an art gallery in custody after he had been accused of drugging and raping one of the women he was supposed to be painting a portrait of. They pretty much had a lot of evidence connecting this perp to this crime and were hoping this would be a slam dunk. As they were sitting in the interrogation room, the door opened as his lawyer had finally showed up:

"Heather McKnight here for the defense."

Olivia looked up and locked eyes with the woman. Realization settled in, and irritation started to bubble within her; Edgar's ex-fiancée was the defense attorney for this piece of trash they'd picked up.

"About time you showed up." Fin muttered underneath his breath. Olivia nudged him and shot him a look, then leaned back in her chair while Heather sat across from her.

"Okay I'm here; we can begin now."

Even her voice was high pitched and annoying, and Olivia was irked. However, she would remain professional and work with this.

Olivia and Fin proceeded with the questioning for their client. Of course, with every turn, Heather had a counter, to the point where she had even questioned the victim's credibility and accuracy of her identification. This was to be expected with any defense attorney of course, but the fact that said defense attorney for this was Heather was only pissing Olivia off even more. She didn't even know the woman enough to have a vendetta against her, but maybe it was just the fact that she knew who she was a knew how badly she had hurt Edgar, maybe that was the reason she hated her.

The interrogation ended with their client being able to go home to await arraignment while Olivia and the squad had to chase down more leads to make sure this case was a slam dunk like they wanted it to be. Olivia headed into her office, and Fin had trailed behind her and closed the door as he walked in;

"What was that?"

Olivia raised an eyebrow; "Um I believe it was a bullshit interrogation with a perp and their high-priced mouthpiece lawyer."

Fin rolled his eyes then looked at her; "Nah, I mean why her weird ass keep looking at you like she was intimidated by you or some shit?"

Olivia was grateful that her back was to Fin so he couldn't see the way she rolled her eyes. It was typical that he had picked up on such; she had noticed the way Heather had been looking at her too, but she brushed it off. She wouldn't exactly tell Fin who Heather was as he didn't need to know all that, but she would at least answer him.

"She's a defense attorney, but I just don't think she likes the fact that she has to talk to a female CO like me. Stupid really, but whatever."

"I swear nobody likes talking to you because you take no shit; that's personally why I love you…" Fin chucked. "Alright for real, what we doing next? What's our next move?"

"Keep investigating so we can finish this case..." Olivia replied as she picked up her phone; "This isn't the first time he's done this, so keep digging."

Fin nodded his head before leaving her office. Olivia took a deep breath to calm herself down. It wasn't that she was necessarily worried about Heather and her shit, but it didn't seem like a coincidence to her that this woman had suddenly become the defense attorney for this case. Part of her felt like she was overreacting, but a small part of her had a hunch that she wasn't overreacting at all. It was just something about the way Heather looked at her, as if there was some ulterior motive to her being involved in this case.

But then again – why? Nobody knew about her and Edgar apart from Fin, and Heather couldn't have sussed something out between her and Edgar in those short moments in his office yesterday – could she?

Olivia groaned to herself as she sat down at her desk. Her head was swimming with an array of different questions and scenarios. But she didn't have time to focus on that right now; she had a case to solve.

She shook off her uneasy feelings and put her head back in the game. This case needed to get solved and this woman needed to be away from her life – now.

The rest of the day passed without incident. They had managed to track down another victim but she wasn't willing to cooperate so that left them a little stuck on what to do next. Olivia left the precinct around four and headed home, and she spent some time with Noah before taking him to his friend's house around six. As soon as she returned home, she quickly jumped in the shower to wash off the day, and she changed into some leggings and a t-shirt since she and Edgar would be hanging out here tonight.

Just as soon as she emerged from her bedroom, there was a knock at her door. She rushed to the door and checked the peephole, and she smiled in an instant as she tugged the door open. He was still dressed in slacks and a dress shirt from work but here was Edgar, standing right there.

"Hi." She grinned.

"Hey yourself…" he stepped in as he held up a couple grocery bags; "How does honey-glazed salmon with glazed carrots and rice sound?"

"It sounds like a plan because I am starving." Olivia replied. She closed the door and locked it, then looked up at him while tapping her lips. Edgar let out a chuckle, then leaned in and pressed a tender kiss to her soft lips. She rest her hand on the side of his face and kissed him back while letting out a soft moan when she felt his tongue against hers.

Their kiss continued for a few more moments, then they slowly pulled away from each other. They ventured further into the apartment; Edgar put the bags down on the counter while wrapping his other arm around her; "Sit down and rest; you had a long day."

"Today has been one for the books, that's for sure…" she paused for a brief moment, long enough to stand on his toes and kiss his cheek; "Do you need help with dinner?"

"I'm cooking dinner for you, ma'am; sit down." He smirked. Olivia simply rolled her eyes but smiled anyway as she went to sit on one of the rotating stools at the counter.

"How about I just keep you company?"

"I'll allow it, Captain." Edgar shot her a smirk, then leaned down and kissed her head which made her smile. He then rolled up his sleeves as he made his way further into the kitchen, while Olivia remained sitting at the counter with a blissful smile on her face as she tried to forget about her weird day. Right now, she was just focused on the night ahead and the fact that Edgar was with her tonight.

A little while later, the two were seated on the floor across from each other while their dinner was on the coffee table. Edgar had even lit a candle and had some wine for them as well, and the two were truly enjoying their dinner as they caught up on each other's day and just enjoyed each other's presence. Edgar's meal of honey glazed salmon with carrots and rice was going down well as all the flavors blended perfectly together; Olivia having loved it so much that she told Edgar that he would have to make this again sometime for Noah as well which of course he chuckled and nodded his head about. They had dimmed the lights a bit, so the candle on the table provided the perfect light and allowed the sparkle in each other's eyes to be shown as they simply talked and laughed together.

Olivia swallowed a bit more of her food then spoke again; "Oh yeah, let me tell you about the weird shit of the day."

Edgar sipped his wine while raising an eyebrow, indicating that he was listening. Olivia took a small sip of her wine, then she explained;

"So, you know the case we're currently working – the art gallery owner accused of drugging and raping his client?"

Edgar nodded, so she continued; "Yeah so…his defense attorney is Heather McKnight, your-"

"My ex-fiancée?"

"The one and only…" Olivia rolled her eyes as she curled her legs under her more; "I mean it could have been a huge coincidence, but even Fin noticed those looks she kept giving me. She's weird, and I'm not saying that in a way that indicates cattiness because frankly, we're all adults here and I'm way past the age of bullshit games. But she is odd."

"She always has been odd," Edgar muttered as she shook his head; "Don't let her get to you."

"I get it she's doing her job as a defense attorney, but she needs to not let whatever issue she has with me get in the way of this case…" Olivia replied with a slight scoff; "Like said, it could just be a coincidence but it was just…weird."

"Keep eyes on her; I wouldn't think she'd try anything but just be careful." Edgar replied, a rather serious look on his face as he looked at her.

"I will, trust me."

The conversation switched to a lighter topic, one that lifted Olivia's mood again – plans for a trip to Connecticut. Edgar had mentioned to her a few times since they'd been seeing each other that his sister and brother in law and his nieces wanted to meet her and Noah, but all of their schedules weren't lining up properly, so they hadn't had a chance to plan anything properly. School would be finishing soon for Noah, and so as soon as they had a good time frame figured out, Olivia planned to take a few days off so that she, Edgar, and Noah could spend a few days in Connecticut. She was looking forward to getting to know his sister, though she was sure that they would get along quite well as she sounded like such a lovely person.

A while later, Edgar had cleared their plates then he and Olivia settled on the sofa with more wine and a movie playing – a classic, black and white romantic film. However, the two were hardly watching the movie as the more wine they drank, the more they had started kissing and touching. Olivia ended up straddling his lap and rolling his now open shirt off his shoulders, and Edgar was already pushing her t-shirt up until it was off, leaving her in just her leggings and bra. They laughed and kissed as Edgar lifted her up to carry her through this her bedroom, and before long, they had sunk into bed together while their lips were fused together in a passionate frenzy.

They rolled around beneath her sheets for a couple of hours, bringing each other to new heights of pleasure as erotic cries of each other's names echoed throughout the bedroom. Reckless hickeys were once again on Olivia's neck – and her thighs – and Edgar's back and arms were covered in deep scratches resulting the way Olivia kept digging her nails into him when caught up in the thralls of passion. When he came undone and spilled into her for the second time of the night, she clung to him and kissed him as a feeling of warmth flooded throughout her body. The events of the day were long forgotten, and all that mattered was tonight, especially this moment here tonight in this bed.

They settled down once it was all over; she rested her head on his chest while drawing patterns on his chest with her finger. He held her tight and pressed kisses to her forehead, and all she could do was smile to herself as she felt so blissfully happy.

No matter what was coming their way, they both knew that there was nothing that would tear them apart. They wouldn't let it happen.

Just a little short update for y'all. I'm glad you're all enjoying this. More goodies to come - Olivia still needs to meet the family and Heather still needs to act a fool in court lol jk jk. But seriously, thanks for all the love. Stay safe y'all xo
