Cal POV
I was sitting in my Rangeman apartment with Ram, Hal and Vince. We were watching ESPN and having a beer.
"Do you guys know anything about this special assignment this week?" Vince asked.
We all shook our heads. I knew Rangeman operated on a need to know with most things.
"Did you see Bear go into the guest apartment? Somebody said he was here for the special assignment too. I've never heard of them bringing him in on anything." Ram mentioned.
Hal's phone rang and he had a clipped conversation with the other person. Once he hung up we stared at him waiting.
"Control said that Ranger arrived with a woman that they have never seen before. The core team greeted her and she went up to the 6th floor. Ranger went into the apartment then left and came back in different clothes." Hal informed us.
"Better not let Ranger hear you talking about his personal life like that. He will take you to the mats." I pointed out.
That shut everyone up rather quickly. We finished up and everyone headed back to their places. I hated being in the dark but I knew tomorrow we had a meeting to talk about this assignment.
Bear POV
I felt a lot of eyes on me as I rolled into the Trenton Rangeman building. I had been informed that I was one of two people not part of the core team that knew about this assignment this week. Tank assured me that was what Ranger wanted when he requested me to be here. It didn't happen often but when it did I never asked questions.
Years ago, I was pulled from the wreckage of the incident that changed my life. Ranger saved my life and I will be forever grateful. Tank, Bobby and Lester even visited me during my rehabilitation. On my discharge from the hospital, a large black SUV showed up and took me straight to the Boston office. Ranger and his team gave me a home and a purpose. I was not viewed as a scary monster but known for my skills.
Now, to see what snacks Ella left before I pass out for the evening. Fingers crossed she left me brownies.
Steph POV
I was so nervous coming here tonight. I'm glad Ranger popped back and was going to hang out for a while. Logically, I knew I was safe and Ella was incredibly nice but being back in Trenton always put me on edge. This is the first time in I don't know how long I am staying in town. The guys were very nice downstairs and I think they will succeed keeping everyone away from me this week. It sucks that it is open to the public, the whole thing is going to be a zoo.
There was a knock at the door and I went to answer it. Knowing it was Ranger, since he said he was going to change before he joined me watching a movie. Checking the peephole I swept the door open.
"Do you have any requests for a movie?" I asked.
He locked the door behind him ushering me forward, "I never have much time to watch movies. If you have a suggestion that's fine."
"Oh! Ghostbusters is my favorite movie! Have you ever seen it?"
Ranger shook his head and I looked at him in shock.
"How could you deprive yourself of such a classic movie? First, we need snacks." I told him yanking his arm towards the kitchen.
"It is vital to have the correct snacks for any cravings. This way you minimize having to pause the movie. Everything is better that way.
I loaded Ranger down with all the snacks I could decide we needed and pushed him to the couch. Everything was spread on the coffee table before I plopped down opposite him on the couch. After, I gorged myself on all the goodies I drifted off to sleep. I briefly woke up being laid down on something soft and a blanket pulled over me. I went back to sleep hearing Ranger say good night and thought maybe Trenton isn't so bad if I am inside this building.
