A/N
Sorry that this chapter took a month to come out. School is coming up again, and I have to mentally prepare myself. As someone who procrastinates way too much, I'm not looking forward to this. Hopefully story updates will come more often, I just need to manage my time better. Anyway, hope you all enjoy this chapter. This story is growing pretty well for my first. I'm learning how to write better as I go, and I hope you all will stick around even after this story ends. Until next time!
…
Izuku and Tomura emerged from the portal in the bar, the latter still with a hand around the former's neck.
"Jesus," Izuku exclaimed, pinching his nose. "This place looks and smells like garbage."
"Excuse me?" a voice called out. Izuku turned his attention to the voice that he heard behind the bar and it turned out to be the mist-man known as Kurogiri. "This may not be the cleanest looking place, but I can assure you there is no pungent smell lingering in the air."
Before Izuku could even respond, Tomura cut in. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. Sensei wanted to see him immediately, right?"
"Yes, of course." Kurogiri's body spread into a portal that Izuku could walk into. "He wanted to see him alone as well."
Tomura finally released Izuku from his grasp and shoved the quirkless boy closer to the portal. "Hurry up, brat. Sensei doesn't like to be kept waiting."
"Well," Izuku started, rubbing the part of his neck that was being held. "not like I have much of a choice." Without much hesitation the green-haired boy stepped through the portal. The moment both of his feet touched the ground, the rest of his body followed suit. He began gripping his chest as the air around him began suffocating him.
"Apologies," a voice spoke from somewhere in the mysterious room. The suffocating aura that was killing Izuku slowly let up, and the boy began breathing again. "After going through all of that trouble to get you here, it would be quite unfortunate if you died."
Izuku coughed before responding to the voice. "I would thank you for not suffocating me, but, you know, you kidnapped me."
The voice simply chuckled at Izuku's witty remark before continuing. "I have a very simple question for you. Do you know who I am?"
"I've got a pretty good idea. All For One, right?"
The voice once again chuckled after receiving Izuku's answer. "That is correct. Even after all of your conversations with All Might, recognizing me without knowing me is very impressive."
Izuku was going to respond with another witty sentence before he thought about what the villain just said.
"Even after all of your conversations with All Might, recognizing me without knowing me is very impressive."
"Wait a minute. How do you know about my conversations with All Mi-" Before Izuku could finish his sentence, red tentacles shot out from the darkness in front of him and pierced his body.
"In due time you will have your questions answered, Young Izuku. But for now, I'm keeping a promise to an old friend." Red electricity began circling the boy's body as he slowly sunk to the floor. He screamed in agony as he slowly began losing consciousness.
…
"It's okay, Ochako," Mina spoke to the worrying brunette over the phone. "You did everything you could by giving the information you knew to the police."
"I know," Ochako quickly responded. "But I still feel like I could've done more."
"It's only natural that you would feel like that. But remember what Momo said. Trying to intervene and fight could've and would've only made the situation worse. That guy can disintegrate stuff, remember?"
"But I did training with Gunhead. A part of me KNOWS that my hand-to-hand combat practice could've helped."
"Don't beat yourself up about it, Ochako. Midori wouldn't want that, you know?"
The brunette sighed before shifting around in her bed to get more comfortable. "Yeah…he wouldn't."
"Look on the bright side too," the energetic teen continued. "You told the police about what he said before he was taken. His mother should be safe now."
Ochako paused before saying something else to think about Izuku's mother. She had been so absorbed in her own feelings that she didn't even stop to think about what his mother could be going through in a time like this.
"Ochako? You there?"
The girl in question broke her train of thought when she heard her name called out on the other side of the phone. "I'm still here. Just thinking about what Izuku's mother could be going through."
"Oh…yeah. Poor woman." The two teens fell into a silence as neither of them wanted to continue the depressing topic. "Well, we should probably hit the hay. Aizawa is probably going to work us even harder now."
"You're right about that. Night, Mina."
"Night, Ochako. Make sure you get some sleep."
"You too."
And with that, both girls hung up and drifted into sleep.
…
The class was definitely less chatty today. It was before the bell rung, and Aizawa hadn't even walked in yet. That was usually the time to get all of your talking out, besides lunch. When the homeroom teacher swung the door open, he didn't even need to tell anyone to take their seats or quiet down.
"Good morning everyone," the teacher spoke to the class. He received a very solemn 'Good Morning' from the class. He only sighed to himself as he thought about the conversation to come. "I'm sure all of you know what happened to Midoriya, right?" He looked around for any type of response, but received next to nothing. "Good, so I won't have to repeat information you all already know. Before I move on from this, I will say one thing about this situation." The homeroom teacher paused, letting his students brace themselves for what he could possibly say. "Under no circumstances is anyone allowed to look for Midoriya."
Before he could continue, multiple students shot up from their seats in protest. Kirishima was first. "We can't just leave Midoriya to fend for himself, Sensei. Not only is he our friend, but it isn't very manly either."
Ochako was next. "He's right. There's no telling what Izuku's going through right now. If we search too, we might be able to find him faster."
Iida surprisingly began speaking as well. "Normally, I would be against this, but I agree. Midoriya is the main reason I'm alive right now, so I at least owe him because of that."
Before another student could protest, Aizawa quickly interrupted. "Enough! Listen to me very carefully. We don't know what we are up against. They were strong and smart enough to break into USJ and push All Might into a corner. The best course of action is to bide our time and come up with a plan. The last thing we need is for more students to be kidnapped…or worse."
The students who were standing sat back down, and the ones were planning on saying something sank further into their seats.
"So…given what happened, we're on the lookout for these villains." Aizawa pulled a stack of pamphlets seemingly out of nowhere and began placing them on the front desk of each column. "Moving on, there have been some last minute changes to the training camp. We won't reveal our actual destination until the day we depart. There will also be more heroes on sight, including All Might. We don't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen, but this is just precaution."
"WHOA, WHOA, WHOA," Sero exclaimed. "Is my vision going out, or is everyone else reading the same thing?"
"Not just you," Kaminari responded. "I'm seeing this too."
"Is it true, Sensei?" Mina questioned. "Is UA really converting to a boarding school?"
Aizawa placed down the cup of coffee he was going to sip from and responded to the question. "Oh yeah. Principal Nezu and all of the teachers sat down and came to an agreement. You're already here six out of the seven days of the week, so building a dorm for you all to live in is a very logical choice. The pro-con ratio is looking pretty go as well. Increased safety, free rooms to help lower income families, and no excuse for being late to class. The only downside I can think of is less time to spend with your family, something that can be done on Sundays. Just let your guardians know of the news and more details will be revealed in the coming days. Until then, we still have class. Notebooks out!"
…
The bell rang, signaling the end of the day. Class 1-A packed their bags and quickly left the room, energy drained from the long school day. Ochako and Iida took the usual train back home, minus Izuku for obvious reasons. The two sat in comfortable silence before Ochako decided to break it.
"Do you think he's okay?" the brunette asked. "Izuku I mean."
"Hmmm," the taller boy pondered. "It's hard to say, but I have faith in Midoriya. He's one of the strongest people I know, and he won't give up even when looking danger directly in the face."
Ochako took a moment to absorb and think about the words Iida said. "You're right. I shouldn't worry too much. Izuku's too strong and stubborn to let something like this take him down."
Iida allowed a smile to spread across his face after listening to Ochako's words. What he said thankfully cheered her up a bit. "I'm glad you think so."
The two changed the formally serious and depressing conversation to something much more mundane. The bus eventually came to Iida's stop and the boy exited the bus, waving goodbye to his friend in the process. The bus finally reached Ochako's stop and she exited the bus. On the way back to her apartment, a thought occurred to her.
'Everyone keeps telling me over and over again,' she thought to herself. 'Izuku wouldn't want me to mope like this, and darn if they aren't right!' She clenched her fist and pumped it in the air. 'I'm gonna train and work harder than I ever have before!'
…
Izuku let out a groan as he woke up, his body still sore from his little 'conversation' with All For One. He began sitting up and blinking to see if he could make anything out in the dark room. But, of course, his efforts were in vain. When he finally stood all the way up, a voice came through to the room, a voice he was slowly growing to hate.
"Ahhh," All For One called out. "I see you are awake. How did you sleep?"
The green-haired boy started stretching and let out another groan before sarcastically replying. "About as well as one can sleep with whatever you did to me."
The supervillain let out a hefty chuckle before continuing. "Apologies for that. Given the situation, it only makes sense that you feel the way you do and slept for as long as you did."
"Speaking of which, how long was I asleep?"
"About thirty-six hours."
"THIRTY-SIX HOURS?!" Izuku exclaimed, partially angry and partially surprised. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME?!"
"Calm down, Young Izuku. I assure you that no harm was caused. All I did was knock out three birds with one stone."
Izuku did his best to glare in the direction that he thought to voice was coming from. Mustering up all of the courage he had, he uttered a single word. "Explain."
All For One began speaking again, but all amusement was gone from his voice. "Is it fear or courage, boy, that motivates you to speak to me like that? I'd be careful, or I will take away your gift just as easily as I gave it to you."
"Gift?"
The amusement quickly returned to the villain's voice when he heard confusion and fear inside Izuku's voice. "Your quirk of course!"
At the mention of having a quirk, Izuku's heart skipped a beat. On one hand, he had been praying for a quirk his entire life, but on the other hand, he knew this wouldn't come to him free of charge. "What are you talking about? I know you can freely give and take quirks, but why me?"
"It's like I said earlier. I was knocking out three birds with one stone. By giving you a quirk, I paid my debt to a friend, set my big plan in motion, and destroyed UA's reputation in the process."
"Friend? Big plan? UA's reputation?" Izuku muttered in sheer confusion. "What the hell is going on?"
The lights in the room all shot on at once, temporarily blinding Izuku. When the teen looked around, he noticed multiple closed metal doors on one side, a screen above the doors, and what looked to be a one-way window behind him.
"I will tell you everything you want to know," All For One began. "But first…you have to earn the right." On cue, the metal doors opened one by one, revealing what looked to be villains, ranging from common looking street thugs to ones who looked like they would kill for a cigarette. "Now this group is very angry. Each of them had their quirk stolen and this is their opportunity to get it back. Defeat them using your new gift and you will be heavily rewarded. Fail me and…well, you don't want to know." The screen above the doors flickered to life, and multiple pictures of his mother began appearing and disappearing in slideshow form, ranging from the poor woman putting up missing posters to her sleeping in her bed at night. "I don't want to involve family, so don't make me."
Izuku looked down at his hand and clenched it into a fist. He was outnumbered, most likely outclassed, and he didn't even know what his quirk was. If he went into this battle, he would most likely end up dying a gruesome death. He didn't have much of a choice though. As the boy thought more and more about the situation, he could only continue to grow angrier. His anger, however, was interrupted by a very familiar voice.
'Look on the bright side,' a voice called out. Izuku physically flinched when he heard it. 'They say a life or death situation can awaken a quirk. There's no way to know unless you find out, right?'
'Heh,' Izuku chuckled to himself. 'It's been a while. Where the hell have you been?'
'It's a hell of a story, but I'll tell you later. For now, you've got some ass to kick.'
'Yeah. I suppose I do.' Izuku cracked his knuckles and adopted a fighting stance. "I'm ready, All For One!"
"Hehehe," the supervillain chuckled. "As you wish." The villains across from him all adopted their own fighting stances while some even pulled out knives. "BEGIN!"
…
"Excellent work, Young Izuku," All For One applauded. The fight had ended with Izuku barely coming out on top, bruised, bloody, and out of breath. When pushed into a corner, the boy activated his quirk on instinct and a blast of air shot from his palm. Izuku had a moment to think and dubbed his quirk 'Air Cannon'. "That quirk was one of my favorites. I'm glad to see you're already growing on it."
"I did what you wanted," the teen spoke in between breaths, gasping for as much air as he could. "Now I want answers."
"Of course. Anything you want to know about…almost anything."
"First of all, my living condition. Obviously, you have no plans of letting me go anytime soon, so I at least want a heads-up about what's going to happen."
"Ah, yes. A very simple question. You will be staying at the bar with the other League members. Speaking of them, you will be meeting them very soon. You already know Tomura and Kurogiri, but you still have to meet the others. Your room is also being prepared as we speak; toiletries and accessories that you need will also be provided as well."
"Second, what is this big plan you keep talking about? The only thing I can guess about is that I'm somehow involved."
"It doesn't surprise me that you want to know about that," the villain responded. "But I'm keeping the amount of people who know about it to a minimum. But we can strike a deal."
"A deal?" the not-so-quirkless boy questioned.
"Yes! You see, while working under me, you will accompany Tomura on many missions. If these missions go well and you cooperate with the other League members without causing trouble, I will reward you with information. Understand?"
"So you want me to help Shigaraki put innocent lives in danger for information?"
"It sounds so dirty when you put it like that. But, no. If everything goes according to plan, innocent people shouldn't be put in danger. That's why Tomura has you after all. A honed mind with the drive to succeed and motivation not to fail, now paired with a quirk. You will be the deciding factor if the plans succeeds or not."
"Heh," Izuku chuckled aloud. "You're willing to put that much faith into me already? Are you sure your trust isn't misplaced?"
"Do you really need to ask that question?" All For One asked. "You know the risks involved with betraying me. The last thing I want to do is bring your mother into this."
"Ah, yes, of course. Bring family into it."
"Apologies, Young Izuku. But I must make sure the plan goes on without a hitch. This is just me making sure nothing goes wrong. I hope you understand." The villain let out a few raspy coughs similar to that of All Might and continued. "I believe you have one more thing you want to know about."
"Yeah, I do. This 'friend' of yours that you keep mentioning. Who is this person, and do they have something to do with why I'm here specifically?"
The villain was going to respond before he began chuckling. The chuckling then evolved into booming laughter. "Well, I was asked to keep this a secret, but I suppose I can make an exception. After all, you will be meeting him in a few days. Well, I shouldn't say 'meet', I should say 'see again'."
"Who?"
"The man who gave you life, and the man with brain power to rival my own."
Izuku's eyes widened at the statement.
"Your father."
