Chapter twenty
Harry loved the house. He explained to his wife that he wouldn't feel like it was his unless he paid for half. It took a lot of arguing by Connie to explain that since she didn't pay for the house, it was a gift, then Harry was just to think of it as his gift as well. Her parent's knew eventually she would marry and have kids, so they found a house that was big enough for their daughter's family, when she had them. Connie also explained that her parent's had worked it so if Connie and the man she married ever broke up, the house would always remain Connie's. Harry finally gave in, but he did ask if he could bring a few things from his parent's home to the house, especially his father's desk and some pictures. Connie just grinned then kissed her husband.
The house elves got themselves familiar with the house and Connie showed them the room they could use. They could have space to themselves as it was big enough to put screens around to give them some privacy. The elves instantly worked on the room with three sections, which gave them more room than any of them ever had before. Connie never had time to do anything with the garden and it was large. She thought now that there would be three house elves working for Harry and her, then they can do something with it.
Connie wanted to head straight to the ministry so she could put the mince pie into evidence, so she did that while Harry went to Godric's Hollow to get the few things he wanted. The elves would pop the stuff to the house the moment Harry told them what he wanted. There were many pictures, some personal things, like his parent's diaries, a lot of books, one on the Potter family. The desk was something Harry loved, it was big and old, but in good condition. Connie had shown him the room she planned to turn into an office, so the desk was put in there. What worked was the desk could be sat at on either side, so Harry was going to get two seats, one for either side of the desk. Harry and Connie could each work in that room. If either of them wanted a separate working area, there were plenty of other rooms to use. Right now though, they liked being together. Harry knew though that since his wife was an auror, she could eventually bring work home that was confidential which meant she had to keep those files under lock and key.
While Connie was still at the ministry, Harry decided to make a quick trip to see Luna and her father. They instantly agreed to publishing Harry's letter, as long as he was willing to have a picture taken with his wife. Luna was going to take the picture so she would go with Harry to his home and wait for his wife to return.
Connie instantly liked Luna, they ended up chatting for a while after the blond had done the interview and taken some photo's of Harry and Connie. Once Luna left, Connie explained what happened at the ministry.
'So Kingsley spoke with Arthur, but one auror is going with Arthur to speak with Molly and Ginny. They will explain that if we press charges, both of them could end up in Azkaban. Kingsley really pushed to Arthur that the only way Molly and Ginny will stay out of Azkaban is if they make a magical oath to never try anything on either of us again.'
'Arthur is a great bloke, but he's let his wife do what she wanted for too long, now Molly believes she can continue and she's made her daughter believe it as well,' Harry sighed, 'Okay, I'll go along with that as I know how stubborn both Weasley woman are. It was mainly Molly that stopped me having time with Sirius. She didn't like Sirius, she thought he was not good enough to be my godfather. It was during that time at Grimmauld place that actually made me begin to hate Molly. I don't like hating people, unless they do something to me or those I care about and she was trying to keep me and my godfather apart. I couldn't forgive her for that.'
'I don't blame you. Your parent's picked Sirius, which should have been good enough for everyone. Let's forget about it now. We've got a month to ourselves, apart from meeting my parent's. I've sent them an owl telling them to join us for dinner tomorrow night,' Connie instantly noticed Harry was nervous, 'They will love you. When the Daily Prophet was writing all those lies about you, they were furious. When I told them what tonks told me about Sirius, they said he must be innocent. They hated Fudge since he was friends with Malfoy. They never really like Dumbledore. They believed he held too much power.'
'Sounds like my kind of people. Well, all I can do is be honest with them and hope they believe I'm good enough for the brilliant and beautiful daughter.'
Connie grinned, then she was dragging Harry up to their bedroom. But clothes were disappearing, dropped as they made their way upstairs. One of the house elves followed along picking up the clothes and taking them to the laundry.
Harry was in the kitchen working on dinner. Even though Connie could cook, she admitted she wasn't anywhere near as good as Harry so he agreed to do most of the cooking, for now, but he would give his wife some lessons. Connie always wanted to be able to cook, she just never had time, not with work.
Harry was just finishing when he heard a noise. He turned to see Connie with her parents, who were smiling at him. He quickly cast a cleaning charm on his hands.
'Harry, meet my parent's, Andrew and Alice hammer. Mum, dad, this is my husband, Harry Potter.'
'It's nice to meet you both,' Harry shook Andrew's hand then was surprised when Alice hugged him, which made him smile.
'Even though we were shocked to hear our daughter got married, we do know about love at first sight,' Alice said giving Harry a smile.
'Many of my friends were love at first sight marriages,' Andrew said with a smile, 'I just never expected a famous son-in-law.'
'Connie told me you never believed the lies the Daily Prophet printed, almost all of it was lies or twisted to make me seem dark. Skeeter was the worst, she's going to find herself doing a year in Azkaban and have to pay a huge fine.'
'I didn't think they could prosecute reporters for lying,' Alice said.
'They can't, but Harry explained to Kingsley that Rita Skeeter is an unregistered animagus. She turns into a water beetle.'
'That's how she heard private conversations. Hermione Granger figured it out, captured her while in her beetle form then made a deal with her.'
'So that's why she stopped writing all that trash,' Alice grinned, 'I hope the new minister can work on some laws to make reporters print the truth.'
'Kingsley said he was working on it. He knew Harry during those lies Fudge made the Prophet write,' Connie said.
'But dinner is ready, so let's sit,' Harry grinned, gave his wife a kiss while he nodded to the house elves. Even though they wanted to cook, Harry wanted his first meal with his in-laws to meal he made, so they knew he wasn't a hopeless husband.
It was a week after the war officially ended that Harry got an owl from the twins. They were planning on a huge party to celebrate the end of the war, but they figured they could show everyone what they had been doing for years and wanted Harry to join them. When Harry told Connie, she instantly said she would join the group and thought it would be fun. So, Harry agreed, sent a letter back to the twins so they could work on some times to get together before the party. First, they needed to find a place to hold a party that was big enough.
Harry, Connie, the twins, Angelina, and Alicia met up at the shop. It was Alicia who suggested the Three Broomsticks. Once it was agreed, Harry wanted to be the one to pay Madam Rosmerta for the use of her pub. They didn't want just anyone walking in, so it would be a private party and only those invited could enter. Since Connie was an auror, and Harry was friends with Kingsley, they were going to work on sealing the pub to all who did not have an invitation.
Fred and George spoke with Bill, they had already worked out that if their mother or sister started to cause trouble for Fleur, Harry or Connie, they would be arrested. Once Kingsley had explained to Molly and Ginny how much trouble they could have been in for the tampered pies and juice, they did make the oath. But no one would trust the two Weasley woman not to get around it, somehow. Bill had already told his mother he would never visit again due to how she talked about his wife. She had to change her ways or she would never have the family together again.
After everything, they wanted to just have fun and celebrate the end of the war and loses had been minimum. Voldemort hadn't had time to cause any real damage before he had finally been dealt with. This party was just so everyone could have fun and let their hair down. But they all realised just how many could have died, like in the first war with Voldemort. Thousands died, so many families torn apart. It was time to put all that in the past where it belongs and celebrate the beginning of their new lives in a safe world.
Even though the Three Broomsticks was warded, just for the night, so only people with invitations could enter, Kingsley organised some hit wizards to patrol inside and around Hogsmeade. One hit wizard would be checking everyone's invitation as they entered. The floo was closed off for the night, so everyone had to apparate then walk into the door, after showing their invitation.
Madam Rosmerta along with the three house elves that belong to Harry and Connie were organising the food and drinks. But Harry along with people like Kingsley told Rosmerta she was a guest as well, so to enjoy the night.
Connie was sitting on Harry's lap at the table with her parent's, Bill, Fleur, Remus and Tonks. They would greet friends who stopped by, like Neville and Hannah, Susan Bones came with them as well. Susan had lost her entire family to Voldemort and his death eaters but even she wanted to have fun, knowing the war was over. All the DA were there, along with other students who had remained to fight Voldemort and his death eaters.
Arthur lead his family inside but kept a tight hold of his wife. He did tell Ron to speak with Harry so Harry along with his wife would know that Molly and Ginny didn't have a wand. Arthur put his foot down and said the only way they could attend was if they agreed to leave their wands at home and leave Harry and his wife alone. They agreed but showed they didn't really like it. The moment they stepped inside, Ginny glared at the woman sitting on Harry's lap who was kissing her neck. Molly also glared but she was not only glaring at Connie, but at Fleur as well.
Many knew to keep an eye on Molly and Ginny. They just hoped the two Weasley woman didn't start anything to ruin the night. Everyone just wanted a fun night with no trouble. The danger was over, it was time to celebrate and they wanted to do that without anything bad happening. It was time to celebrate the war was over and their world was finally safe.
