Void

You're about to face your darkest hour, my son. But, remember: The lessons that we learn from pain are the ones that make us the strongest.

*Lana's Dorm, a week later.*

It was 1 am in the morning and there Lana laid in here bed, wide awake. She hadn't slept good all week and how could she? She knew, sooner or later she would have to make the decision of her life. A decision that would change everything. She knew everyone would hate her for doing this, that they wouldn't be able to understand why. More importantly, she knew she would lose Clark forever. Yet, despite all that, this was an easy decision. She loved Clark more than anyone or anything in the world. He was her knight in shining armor, her one true love and her very best friend. She was willing to sacrifice anything for him and she would. Clark was meant for much more important things other than being a husband or a boyfriend. Clark was going to save the world and Lana knew that. He was going to save so many lives and keep the world save as long as he lived, which for all she knew could be forever. This would be the biggest thing Lana would ever do in her life, she would sacrifice herself for Clark, because in her heart she knew he would never hesitate to do the same. That's who he was and that's who she is. Lex could do what ever he wanted to her as long as Clark stayed safe, it didn't really matter at all. This was her sacrifice.

Lana rubbed her eyes from the tears one last time, before kissing her necklace. The necklace that had brought her so much strength. She had kissed it every night before she went to bed ever since Clark gave it to her. She started holding it for hours every night this week, looking to draw the strength it gave her, because she needed it. She knew what she had to do and what she should do, but she also knew it wouldn't be easy. So she would have to rely on the one thing that would always be with her, her love for Clark, even if his would soon be gone. Lana then closed her eyes and fell asleep.

*The next morning*

Chloe about to leave for class, when she see's Lana sitting on her bed. She was dressed in plain clothes with no makeup or anything. She stops at the door, puts her things down and takes a seat next to Lana. "For someone who's getting married to the love of their life, you seem pretty sad." Chloe said, looking concerned at Lana.

"What do you mean?" Lana shrugged off Chloe's comment.

"I mean, look at you, you're not wearing makeup. You're just going through the motions, like nothing means anything to you. I'm worried, I think you wait until I go to sleep, so you can cry." Chloe ranted.

"Nothing is wrong with me." Lana got up and went into the bathroom.

"If nothing is wrong, then why won't you return Clark's calls?" Chloe questioned her as she approached her.

"I can't talk to him now. I need space." Lana dried her face off and went to pack up her things.

"That doesn't make any sense Lana, you just accepted his marriage purposal and you two were so happy." Chloe was in disbelief.

"Things change." Lana packed up her things and left as Chloe put her hands up in shock.

*Honduras*

Clark wakes up from his straw bed. "Ugh, I know I can't hurt my back here or probably don't even feel it, but I hate these beds." Clark gets up and hurries to his pants. He takes out his cell phone. "Why hasn't she returned my calls?" Clark said to himself, he was really starting to get concerned. He then decided to call Chloe.

"Hey Speedy, how's Honduras?" Chloe asked.

"It's horrible, I can't take the bed or the food anymore. Plus, there's no sign of Fine anywhere." Clark told her.

"What do you think he's going to do?" Chloe had a worried expression on her face.

"Probably the same thing he wanted the last time he came here. He wants to free this Kryptonian named General Zod. I can't let him do that, God knows what will happen if he does." Clark explained.

"The question then becomes how do you stop someone who you already killed?" Chloe says.

"I don't know, but you can sure I'll find out." Clark tells her and the line pauses for a minute. "How's Lana?" Clark asked.

"She's out of it Clark. I've honestly have never seen her like this before. It's like she's there, but not, at the same time." Chloe said, sadness filled in her tone.

"What could be wrong?" Clark needed to know.

"I don't know Clark, she won't talk to me. She hasn't left the dorm room all week." Chloe confessed.

"I don't get it, she was so happy after I purposed to her. It was like the perfect moment and now she won't return my calls?" Clark said confused.

"I wish I could tell you, but I got nothing." Chloe sighed.

"Okay, I'm coming back tonight. When Fine wants something, he'll come find me. I've had enough of this chasing him around." Clark replied frustrated.

"Alright, bye." Chloe said.

"Bye." Clark replied, then shut his cell off.

*Lex's Mansion.*

Lionel is sitting in Lex's chair, looking at a picture when Lex walks in. Lionel slowly places the picture face down. "Well, if it isn't my favorite father." Lex says, putting down his briefcase.

"I thought it was about time I checked up on you son. How are things?" Lionel asked.

"They're good dad, but like always, I know that's not why you're here. So, let's skip the small talk, what do you want?" Lex questioned him.

"I just wanted to know how you're little trip to Honduras was. Find anything interesting? Or should I say anyone interesting?" Lionel said as Lex smiled at him.

"No, I didn't find anything of interest dad. What about you? How are things with you and Mrs. Kent?" Lex asked, making Lionel smirk.

"Good, she is going to make an excellent Senator." Lionel told him.

"I'm sure she would, but you do actually think you could be with her?" Lex said, with a slight laugh.

"Oh Lex, I don't play the romance game like you do. I stopped playing a long time ago." Lionel told him, Lex nodded, not believing a word.

"You know, this reminds of a conversation we had about Lana earlier this year. Do you really think Mrs. Kent could ever love you?" Lex said. Lionel laughs.

"Who says I'm looking for love?" Lionel, gets up and pats Lex on the back as he walks by him. When Lionel is far enough away from Lex's view, he examines the picture he had in his hand again. It's a picture of Clark saving Lana from an explosion. "Don't worry Kal-el, your secret is safe with me." Lionel says as he places the picture in his pocket.

*Met U classroom*

Lana sat in her classroom, with chin rested on her open hand. The professor talked on and on about astronomy, but Lana could care less. It was really meaningless to her, everything now seemed meaningless. It was all over, there was going to be no second time around or 'this time will be no different'. All of it is going to be gone and never for her to see again.

Lana sighed, looking hopelessly into space. The girl next to her saw how horrible Lana was looking. "Did you lose someone important to you?" The girl asked. Lana turned to her slowly.

"Yes, I did." Lana replied.

"I thought so, you look exactly like I did when I lost my dad. I didn't feel like I could go on and that life was hopeless. Then, I met Dr. Rogue and allowed me to see them again." The girl explained. Lana had no clue what she was talking about.

"He let you see them? How?" Lana questioned her.

"He injected with a drug that allows me to see them in my sleep. It's great, I can talk to them and everything. Maybe you should check it out." She suggest. Lana instantly thought about her parents. Ever since they were gone, it has been like there was a void in her life. That is, until she met Clark. Who completed that void and made her feel whole again. Now she had to give that up, she wanted and needed to see her parents again.

"Can you bring me to him?" Lana wanted to know.

"Sure, meet in the dorms around 12 tonight." The girl told Lana.

"Okay." Lana said.

"Oh and bring money if you want to do this." She let Lana know ahead of time.

"How much?" Lana asked.

"As much as you can." The girl replied and Lana nodded thoughtfully.

*Honduras*

Clark grabbed his bags and walked out of his hut, when he saw a huge crowd of people gathered in front of him. They all seemed to be staring at something. A kid ran by and Clark grabbed him lightly. "What's going on?" He asked the child.

"There's a message in fire for this person. We think it came from the sky." The kid told him, then ran off to try and see the message. Clark walked to the crowd, lightly shoving people out of the way. Then he saw the message in fire.

"THE TIME IS COMING, KAL-EL." It reads as Clark stared it down with determination.

"I'll be ready." Clark whispered under his breath. Then he casually walked away.

*Kent House, later in the day*

Martha and Lionel walk into the house. "I never knew what an excellent speaker you are, Martha." Lionel told her.

"Well, I did minor in public speaking in college." Martha informed him.

"It shows, you speak with such power and conviction." Lionel complimented her.

"When I have something to say, I don't hold back." Martha told him.

"That you do and it's one of the things I like about you." Lionel said and Martha smiled.

"Thank you Lionel." Martha said to him, when Clark walked through the door.

"Mom, I..." Before Clark could finish, his eyes caught Lionel standing there.

"Hello Clark." Lionel greeted him.

"Hello Mr. Luthor." Clark said, glancing at Martha for a second before turning back to Lionel.

"I trust you are happy with your mother becoming a senator?" Lionel questioned him.

"I am and I know she'll do what's right." Clark told him, Lionel nodded and turned to Martha.

"Remember the dinner is tomorrow night. I'll be here at 8, to pick you up." Lionel informed Martha, she nodded and then Lionel smiled at both of them before walking out.

"How was the trip Clark?" Martha said, putting down her things on the table.

"I couldn't find him, but he did leave me a message." Clark told her.

"What did it say?" Martha looked curiously at him.

"It said, 'the time was coming.' It was written by heat vision." Clark explained.

"What do you think it means?" Martha asked worried.

"It means all of us are going to have to watch our back. I might have to talk to Jor-el." Clark said upset about that, still not forgiving Jor-el for what happened with his father.

"Jor-el? After all he did, you still want to talk to him?" Martha folded her arms angrily.

"I know what he did and I don't forgive him for it. But mom, I don't have a choice. He knows Milton Fine better than anyone and I might need help here." Clark said and Martha nodded slightly.

"I just don't trust him." Martha said, throwing her hands up.

"Trust worthy or not, I'm still his son and he won't let anything happen to me. He's always talking about my destiny and there is no destiny without me." Clark said confidently to Martha.

"I trust you honey, so whatever you think is right, you do it." Martha told him.

"Thanks mom." Clark smiled warmly as did Martha and they embraced. When they broke apart Martha began to walk upstairs when Clark spoke again. "Mom, why was Lionel here?" Clark wondered.

"Oh, he's helping me ease into this whole senator thing." Martha said.

"There isn't anything going on between you? Is there?" Clark asked worriedly.

"Clark, we're just friends and we'll only be friends." Martha smiled reassuringly.

"Okay." Clark smiled back as Martha walked back upstairs.

*Lana's dorm, that night*

Lana is sitting at her desk in the dorm, attempting to do some homework, when she hears a knock at the door. "Hey." Clark stands there smiling at her door.

"Hi." Lana greets him as they just stand there, staring at each other, not knowing what to say.

"Can I come in?" Clark asked, Lana stepped out of the way.

"Off course." Lana said, then she went to sit on her bed. Clark followed her and took a sit next to her.

"How are you doing?" Clark looked at her with a concerned look.

"Okay." Lana said, not looking at him the eye.

"Did you miss me?" He questioned her and she nodded.

"Yes." Lana said, with her eyes still not looking at his. "Did you find him?" She wanted to know.

"No, but he left a message for me. He told me, 'the time was coming.' Clark said.

"What do you think it means?" Lana asked.

"I don't know, but what I do know, is that I need to prepare." Clark said, confidently.

"You stopped him once, you'll do it again." Lana said, finally turning to him, looking him in the eyes.

"Thanks." Clark said, grateful for her reasurance in him. He leaned in for a kiss, but she turned away.

"I have to go." Lana said, getting up, when Clark lightly grabbed her on the arm.

"Lana, what's going on?" Clark asked, concerned filled in his eyes.

"Nothing, I just have to go." Lana replied and Clark got up.

"You're lying, something is wrong. I can tell by the look in your eyes. You didn't return my calls all week and you just turned away from a kiss." Clark let go for her arm and threw his hands up in frustration.

"I'm fine, I just need some time to think." Lana told him.

"Time to think? Think about what? I don't understand how we can go from being completely happy to this, in one week. I wasn't even here to screw it up and now all of a sudden I feel like you're slipping away." Clark said.

"Remember what I told you Clark. Nothing can take away my love for you, nothing." Lana sincerely told him and kiss him lightly on the lips, then walked out. After she shut the door, she let her head lay lightly on the door, she eyes closed and a single tear falls down her cheek. Clark stood alone in her room with his hands dangling along his arms.

"My Sacrifice"

Hello my friend, we meet again
It's been awhile, where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart are memories
Of perfect love that you gave to me
Oh, I remember

When you are with me, I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice

We've seen our share of ups and downs
Oh how quickly life can turn around
In an instant
It feels so good to reunite
Within yourself and within your mind
Let's find peace there

When you are with me, I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice

I just want to say hello again
I just want to say hello again

When you are with me I'm free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
Cause when you are with me I am free
I'm careless, I believe
Above all the others we'll fly
This brings tears to my eyes
My sacrifice, My sacrifice

I just want to say hello again
I just want to say hello again

My sacrifice.

*Lana's Dorm, Midnight.*

Lana looks at her watch and then takes 300 dollars she had saved up, from her desk. She turned to Chloewho was sleeping and sat there for a second running her hands through her hair. She knew this wasn't like her at all, this wasn't who she was, but sometimes people do things they wouldn't normally do, because of their situation. She wanted, no needed to see her parents, if only for a couple seconds.

Lana then stood up and as quietly as she could, left the room. However, she didn't leave quietly enough as Chloe's eyes opened and saw Lana's shadow leave the room. "Well, if I'm going to find out what's gong on, then now is the time." Chloe got up quietly and made her way toward the door. She shut it lightly as she saw Lana and followed her. Lana, saw the girl, gave her a wave and approached her.

"You're on time." The girl said and waved Lana to follow her. Lana follow her as Chloe followed them. Lana and the girl went into the school, then into a lab, shutting the door behind them. Chloe saw them and decided to wait.

*Inside the Lab*

The girl leads Lana in and they're greeted by a man. "Hello Kayla and is this Lana?" Dr. Rogue asked.

"It is." She replied and the Dr. nodded.

"So, you want to see your dead parents? It must have been so hard to lose them." Dr. Rogue said, Lana nodded.

"Yeah, can we just skip the small talk. Here's the money." Lana handed the money, the doctor counted it.

"No small talk is fine, just wait here, until I get the drug." The doctor walks away and comes back with a small bottle as well as a needle. Chloe watches, shocked at what's going on.

"This might hurt." The Dr. told Lana.

"I'm ready." Lana quickly replied and the doctor stuck the needle into Lana's arm. She flinched cause of the pinch, then fell, the doctor caught her and put her on the table. Chloe is looking on, not knowing if she should rush in or call Clark. She decides to play it safe and watch for now.

*Hallucination*

Lana opens her eyes. She looks around and appears to be in Nell's old flower shop. Then she hears the door open and her parents walk in. She looks up at them in awe and almost has to hold herself back from jumping in their arms. "Mom?...Dad?" Lana's eyes are tearing up.

"Yes, dear, it's us." Her mom says and places her hand on Lana's cheek.

"We've missed you so much." Her dad says, placing his hand on Lana's other cheek.

"I needed to see two so bad. I'm just so lost right now." Lana admitted, letting some tears fall down her cheek.

"We've seen honey, we just want you to know that whatever happens, we'll always be with you." Her mother told her.

"We love you Lana." Her dad said and then Lana faded away from them.

"No! No!" Lana screamed as she faded away.

Lana walks up in a sweat. "I need to go back!" She told the doctor who was standing besides her.

"You can't, at least not that quickly and not without more money." The doctor explained.

"Why can't I go back that quickly?" Lana wanted to know.

"Because, in case you didn't notice Lana, you flat lined. Which means, when you see your parents, you're temporarily dead. I'm the one who brought you back." The doctor shows Lana the needle and the antidote bottle.

"Oh and what do you mean more money? I gave you all I had and that isn't enough for more?" Lana questioned him in shock.

"This stuff isn't cheap, it costs a lot of money. Besides shouldn't it be worth it? Shouldn't anything be worth seeing the people you love one last time?" The Doctor asked and then walked away, he stopped at the door. Chloe rushed away as the Doctor turned to Lana. "If you get the money, you know where to find me." He said, opening the door and then leaving. Lana folded her arms and sighed.

*Lex's mansion*

Lex is sitting at his desk, going through LuthurCorp files, when a man in a suit enters. "Mr. Luthor." He says, getting Lex's attention.

"Why are you here? Shouldn't you be following someone." Lex asked, his eyes not leaving his work.

"I was, but I think there's something you should know about that person." The man told him, Lex lifted his eyes off his work and on to the man.

"And what is that?" Lex was very curious to know.

"She's drugging herself." He said. Lex looked surprised. 'Lana doesn't do drugs.' He thought to himself.

"You saw this with your own eyes?" Lex wanted to know.

"Yes sir, it's not like any drug I've ever seen. From what I found out, it can temporally kill you and will if you keep taking it." The man explained.

"Okay, the next time she goes to get the drug, call me." Lex instructed him.

"I will." He replied and then left.

*Chloe and Lana's dorm*

Lana woke up the next morning, still hoping the events for the previous week were just one big nightmare. She had woke up every morning hoping they were, she had even prayed for it, but it wasn't a nightmare, it was real. Lana then sighed, got up and went into the bathroom. Splashing water on her face, when Chloewalked in. "How was your night?" Chloe asked with her arms folded, like a mother who was about to scold her daughter.

"Huh?" Was all Lana could mummer out.

"How was your late night trip?" Chloe asked again.

"Have you been following me Chloe?" Lana looked at her with curiosity.

"Don't try and change the subject. How could you sneak out at 12 midnight with your life savings to get drugs?" Chloe questioned her.

"What I do is my business." Lana firmly replied.

"Come on Lana, this isn't you. What the hell is going on?" Chloe wanted to know.

"For the last time, nothing is going on! Now I have to get ready for class." Lana brushed past Chloe as Chloe stared ahead in sadness. She knew she had to tell Clark.

*An hour later, at Chloe's dorm room*

Chloe is sitting at her desk, thinking of she can possibly explain this to Clark. At first, she was ready to jump on the phone and call Clark, telling him to get over here in a second, but then she thought again. She had to face facts, Lana was perfect to Clark and the other way around. There's no way Clark would believe Lana would do that, so she had to get proof or at least find some way to make Clark believe her. Then Clark walks in with flowers. "Hey Clo." He says with a smile.

"Hey Clark, are those for me?" She asked, putting on a fake smile, knowing they weren't.

"Uhhhh, sorry, they're for Lana. I must have did something wrong, so I need to make it up to her." Clark said, looking into the bathroom for her.

"She's at class and I'm disappointed you never bring me flowers." Chloe folded her arms pretending to be sad.

"Well, I'm not made of money Chloe. These flowers cost me 50 bucks, besides you're not mad at me. If you ever get mad at me, I promise to bring you flowers." Clark said, putting the flowers next to Lana's bed.

"So, how are things?" Chloe asked.

"Not that good, I don't know where Fine is. Lionel is hanging around my mom a little too much for my comfort, not to mention saying weird things around me. Then there's Lana. You can't imagine how much I miss talking to her. Ever since I told her my secret, I can say anything to her and have her understand. She always knows what to tell me, how to say it and how to make it better. Sometimes I think her words are the only thing that keeps me together." Clark smiled to himself.

"I'm sure everything will be okay, maybe you should talk to her. Ask her what she's been doing." Chloe emphasized the last part.

"Is there something I should know Chloe?" Clark questioned her.

"Why would you say that Clark?" Chloe wanted to know.

"Because you have the, 'I know something look on your face'. If it's about Lana I want to know Chloe." Clark sternly told her.

"Okay, I'll tell you, but you have to promise not to flip out." Chloe said.

"I promise." Clark replied.

"I saw Lana using drugs…." Chloe began before Clark interrupted.

"WHAT!" He yelled.

"You promised not to flip out." Chloe said.

"I lied, why would Lana do drugs? She would never do that. How could you say that?" Clark asked in anger.

"I knew you would act this way, which is why I didn't want to tell you without proof." Chloe paused for a second, Clark put his hands on his waist, still upset. "Lana's my best friend and if I didn't follow her myself, I wouldn't have believed it either, but I saw her myself. I know this is hard to believe for you, but you have to believe me, for Lana's sake." Chloe sincerely told him, the anger vanished from Clark's eyes and he nodded.

"I'll talk to her when she gets back." Clark said.

"I'm so worried about her." Chloe's eyes were filled with worry as were Clark's and then they embraced.

*A couple hours later*

Lana walks in, shutting the door and she see's Clark there sleeping. She smiles, forgetting everything that's going on, if only for a couple seconds. She lightly took a seat on the bed and stroked his hair. Thinking it might be the last time she ever did.

When all our tears have reached the sea
Part of you will live in me
Way down deep inside my heart
The days keep coming without fail
A new wind is gonna find your sail
That's where your journey starts

You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me

Just like the waves down by the shore
We're gonna keep on coming back for more
'Cause we don't ever wanna stop
Out in this brave new world you seek
Oh the valleys and the peaks
And I can see you on the top

You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me

Remember me when you're out walkin'
When the snow falls high outside your door
Late at night when you're not sleepin'
And moonlight falls across your floor
When I can't hurt you anymore

You'll find better love
Strong as it ever was
Deep as the river runs
Warm as the morning sun
Please remember me
Please remember me

Lana sighed and Clark's eyes started to flicker open. "Hey." He said, sitting up.

"Hey." Lana replied, giving him a fake smile as all the worries that disappeared for a couple seconds, came back.

"I brought you some flowers." Clark told her. Lana saw them.

"Thank you, you didn't have to." Lana said, turning back to him.

"I was thinking since I did something wrong, I should make up for it." Clark said apologetically. Lana looked at him sympathetically.

"You didn't do anything wrong." Lana quickly replied.

"Then why haven't we talked in a week? And now you're doing drugs?" Clark questioned her, Lana looked taken aback.

"Drugs? What are you talking about?" Lana lied.

"Chloe saw you taking them." Clark said.

"What I do is none of her business and it isn't yours either." Lana scolded him.

"None of my business? I love you Lana, you're the most important thing to me in the world. HOW IS IT NOT MY BUSINESS, when someone I love is hurting themselves?" Clark was getting teary eyed.

"I can't do this." Lana said, putting her hands through her hair, something that was becoming a horrible habit.

"Can't do what? Lana please, help me here, what the hell is going on? How can I fix this? Please, just let me in, I can tell you're hiding something." Clark pleaded, Lana couldn't look him in the eyes.

"Just leave." Was all Lana could say.

"NO." Clark shouted and lightly grabbed her by the shoulders. "I'm going to let you slip away from me, not after everything that has happened." Clark said, in a desperate tone.

"Clark, please, just go." Lana said, still not looking up at him. Clark let go for her and walk toward the door, then turned around.

"I love you." He said, then left dejectedly. Lana let tears fall down her cheek as she stood staring ahead in sadness. She turned to the flowers Clark got her, took one of them out and held it to her chest.

*Lana's dorm room, late that night.*

Lana quietly slips out of her bed, looking at Chloe. Then she carefully walks out of the room. She stops at the door for a second, trying to think what she was doing. She wasn't a drug addict, she never even took drugs before this, but it seemed like she was addicted and needed more. Since she had no money and wasn't going to take any from Clark or Chloe, she had to steal it the drug.

*Lab in Met U*

The door was locked to the lab, but Lana kicked it in and walked in. She immediately sought out the drug and saw it was in a glass case. Lana thought for a second, then took off her t-shirt and rapped it around her fist, then smashed the glass with her fist. Lana, then put her shirt back on and took a needle, filled it with the serum. Just before she was about to inject herself, she heard a voice. "Lana!" Lex called out.

"What the hell do you want?" She glared at him.

"To stop you from doing this to yourself." Lex said.

"Get away from me, you're the reason I'm here." Lana snapped at him.

"I may be, but the Lana I know wouldn't do this to herself. She's smarter than that." Lex said, trying convince her to put down the needle.

"Go to hell!" Lana said and was about to inject herself when Dr. Rogue entered.

"What are you doing here?" He questioned them.

"Never mind that, what are you doing selling illegal drugs?" Lex asked firmly.

"That's none of your concern and this is private property." The doctor told him.

"It is my concern, because I'm Lex Luthor and I contribute millions of dollars to Met U every year through my company Luthor Corp. If you continue to sell this drug or even think about going near this girl again, you'll regret every stepping foot in Metropolis and you'll be in jail." Lex said, the doctor gulped.

"Fine, take her and go." The doctor said and Lex turned to Lana.

"Come on Lana…" Lex said, reaching for her arm, but while he was doing that, the doctor came from behind him and injected him with the drug.

*Lana's dorm room*

Chloe sighs in her bed, with her eyes still closed and then reluctantly sits up. She looks over to Lana's bed and her eyes widened with she see's Lana isn't there. "Oh no, I have to find her." Chloe says and puts on some clothes as well as her shoes. "I better call Clark too." Chloe said and grabbed her phone.

"Chloe, what's wrong?" Clark asked, almost expecting a call.

"Shouldn't you be asleep?" Chloe wanted to know.

"I couldn't sleep, not with everything that has happened this week. So, what's the problem?" Clark needed to know.

"Lana left again and I'm afraid of what she might do." Chloe told him

"Alright, I'm on my way." Clark replied.

"I'll meet you in the Met U front entrance." Chloe instructed him.

"Okay, hurry up." Clark said and hung up.

"I hope we get there in time." Chloe said, concern filling her eyes.

*Met U Lab*

"You thought you could steal from me?" He asked Lana, approaching her.

"Please, I just needed to see them again." Lana pleaded with him.

"Well, now you can be assured to see them again and this time forever." The man filled up a needle and approached Lana with it.

*Met U entrance*

Clark anxiously awaits Chloe, she finally comes running in. "Where's the lab?" He asked.

"It's on the 2nd floor, right next to the trophy case." Chloe informed him.

"Okay." Clark was about to superspeed away with Chloe grabbed his arm.

"Be careful, I think I saw some green kryptonite." Chloe told him.

"I will be." Clark superspeeded away. He found the trophy case and saw the broken door in front of the lab. "Lana!" He called out.

"Clark!" She called back to him, so happy to see him Clark saw the doctor and superspeeded to him.

"Let her go!" He commanded and grabbed the guy on his throat, however the kryptonite started to affect Clark. He fell to the ground in pain.

"No Clark." Lana rushed to his side. "Please, leave him out of this." Lana begged.

"You brought him into this." The doctor said, getting up to his feet. "Now it's your turn." He approached Lana with the needle, but then fell to the ground twitching.

"See what drugs does to you?" Chloe asked as she held out her stun gun. She then went down to his level on the floor and held the stun gun to his neck. "Tell us how to help our friend." Chloe commanded him.

*Lex's Hallucination*

Lex stood alone in his office. He looked around confused, then in came a beautiful woman. "Mom?" He looked at her in shock.

"Yes Lex, it is me." She said, walking up to him, coming face to face with him.

"But how?" Lex questioned her.

"It doesn't matter how, the only thing that matter is that I'm here." She told him.
"I've missed you so much." Lex said.

"I've missed you too, but it saddens me to see what you've become." She told him.

"I'm sorry, but this who I am." Lex face turned from loving to emotionless.

"It doesn't have to be Lex, you don't have to kill all those people." Lillian said, her eyes filled with worry and pain over what her son will become.

"I've been trying to avoid who I am for too long. " Lex sternly told you.

"No, you've just been trying to find yourself. It doesn't have to be this way, please my son, don't give up." Lillian pleaded with Lex.

"I…" Lex began to say, before he faded away from his mother.

*Clark's Hallucination*

Clark opens his eyes, he's in the barn and see's light coming from the outside. "Dad?" Clark looked in shock as she saw his dad walk through the barn door.

"It's me son." Jonathon replied and Clark rushed to him. He hugged him tightly.

"Dad, I can't believe it." Clark said, at a lost for words.

"I missed you too son, but we can't get lost in that for now. I need to tell you something." Jonathon said, releasing Clark, so he could look him in the eyes.

"Lionel knows your secret" Jonathon told Clark. Clark looked back at him in shock.

"But how?" Clark wanted to know.

"He saw you safe Lana from an explosion in Lex's warehouse. You have to protect him from your mother." Jonathon explained.

"I will." Clark said confidently. Jonathon puts his hand on Clark's shoulder.

"I want you to know how proud I am of you son. You're going to save so many lives and change the world. Continue to make me proud." Jonathon said. Clark 's eyes watered and he faded away from Jonathon.

*End of the Hallucinations*

Clark and Lex both shoot up from their slumbers. Clark looked up to Lana. "Are you okay?" She asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Clark replied, Clark and Lana embraced as Lex looked on.

*Lana's dorm room, the next day.*

Clark and Lana are sitting on Lana's bed in an awkward silence, until Clark begins. "I don't know what to say." Clark said, not looking in Lana's direction.

"Are you upset?" She wanted to know.

"I little bit, why would you do that?" Clark looked deeply into her eyes.

"I can't really explain it, I just needed to see them." Lana said, trying to avoid eye contact.

"But why now all of a sudden? I mean, I know you loved your parents, but now all of a sudden you need to see them? It just doesn't add up Lana." Clark said.

"What do you want me to say?" Lana got up, annoyed by his pressing.

"I want you to tell me the truth. You know the truth, that thing that you've always asked of me. I can't begin to say how frustrating it is to go through this. Especially now, not when I need you the most." Clark explained. Lana stopped in her track, staring out through the window, trying desperately not to cry. He can't need her, not now. Not when she can't be there.

"You don't need me Clark." She said.

"You're my heart and soul, Lana." Clark told her and she almost died with those words. She couldn't hear that, she couldn't let him believe that, not now.

"You have to leave." Lana told him, opening the door.

"But Lana….." He began to say.

"No Clark, you have to leave. We'll talk tomorrow, please, if you love me you'll leave and we can talk tomorrow." Lana begged him.

"Okay, we'll talk tomorrow." Lana nodded and Clark reluctantly left. As soon as she saw Clark speed away, she jump on her bed and cried her eyes out. She was actually surprised at how much she cried, because of all the tears she had cried this week. She didn't think it was possible to be humanly possible to cry this much, but she did. His words ripped her apart inside, because she couldn't fulfill them. She couldn't be there for him now, at least not in the way he wants her to be. She had to protect him in another way, in a way he couldn't understand and in a way that would hurt him. But, it had to be done.

*Kent House, later that night*

Clark walks in the door, trying to compose himself. It seemed as if the walls were falling in and there was nothing he could do about it. Fine was back, Lionel knew his secret and Lana was slipping away. His strength was always found in his father, but he was gone now. There would be no speech or lecture, telling him to get back up. Once again, he found himself alone and didn't know what to do. Clark walked toward the staircase. "There's the man I was looking for." Martha walked down the stairs in a beautiful white dress.

"Mom, we need to talk." Clark told her. She got a worried look on her face and started to walk faster down the stairs.

"What's wrong sweetheart?" Martha asked as she stepped down and saw the concerned look on his face. Before Clark could answer, Lionel knocked and walked in.

"Martha, are you ready?" He asked, looking at Martha as Clark stared at Lionel blankly.

"Yes, just a second. What is it you want to tell me Clark?" She asked again, Clark looked from Lionel back to Martha.

"Nothing that can't wait." Clark said and gave a fake smile.

"Okay, we're going to go. Don't wait up." Martha gave Clark a kiss on the cheek and walked out.

"Goodnight Clark." Lionel said and walked out as Clark stared at the door.

*Lex's Mansion*

Lex is staring out his window thinking about his conversation with his mother, when Fine walks in. "I see you followed me bread crumbs." Fine said, Lex turned to him.

"What do you mean?" Lex questioned him.

"I mean the way you made her choose between his secret or him. I was starting to worry that I was wrong about you Lex." Fine said with a grin on his face.

"I'm doing it for her protection." Lex told him and Fine laughed.

"I don't care why you're doing it, the point is you are. Without her by his side, he is weak and vulnerable." Fine explained.

"I know this already, is there another reason you came by?" Lex asked, coldly.

"I came to tell you that Lana must not know we're working together." Fine said.

"How does she even know about you?" Lex wanted to know.

"Because she helped him kill me or at least temporally hurt me. If she finds out about our partnership, she will go to him and everything will be off." Fine told him.

"Okay, I understand." Lex and said Fine turned to the door, hearing something.

"She's coming." Fine said and superspeeded away. Lana then walked in through the doors, eyes still red from crying.

"I assume by this visit you have made a decision?" Lex asked and she nodded.

"I will be with you, if you don't reveal his secret, not to anyone." Lana sternly told him.

"Okay, you can trust me." Lex said, getting up and walking toward her.

"No, I can't trust you, but I have no choice. I swear to you though, if you reveal his secret, there will be nothing in the world that will protect you from me." She said, looking fiercely into his eyes.

"And I believe you, so we have a deal?" Lex asked, wanting to make sure.

"We do." Lana whispered.

"Good, now to seal the deal." Lex kissed Lana forcefully and she pulled away quickly. Then Lex gave her a look and she allowed him to kiss her again.

*The next day, in the loft*

Clark is sitting on his couch, talking on his cell. "I can't believe he knows your secret." Chloe said, in complete shock.

"I know, the question is, why didn't he tell me yet?" Clark wondered.

"I don't know, you'd think he be very anxious to tell you. Considering the past he has had with you." Chloe told him.

"All I know is that this can't be good and it isn't something I need now." Clark said, then he heard footsteps and saw Lana walking up the loft stairs. "I'll talk to you later Chloe." Clark shut his phone and got off his couch as Lana approached him.

"Hey." Lana said, taking a deep breath and walking over to the window.

"Hey." Clark replied, watching her.

"I need to talk to you." She told him.

"About what?" Clark questioned her.

"About us." Lana said, knowing she couldn't make eye contract with him.

"Okay." Clark said.

"Ever since you told me your secret, I've never been happier. It was a dream come true and I wanted it to last forever." Lana paused as Clark was trying to figure out what she was saying. "But all good things have come to an end." Lana told him, still staring out the window.

"What are you saying Lana?" Clark asked, confused.

"I'm saying it's over Clark." Lana told him. He looked over at her in shock.

"Over? No, you're going to be my wife. It's not over, it can't be." Clark said, becoming hysterical.

"I'm sorry." Lana walked away from the window and tried to pass Clark, when he lightly took her arm.

"No, I'm not just going to let you walk out of my life." Clark told her.

"Clark, I'm sorry, but things change." Lana said.

"So, you're going to tell me that all we went through meant nothing to you? That all the time we spent together was a lie? That you don't love me?" Clark ranted.

"It did mean something." Lana whispered.

"Lana, don't do this. Don't give up on us, I'm not going to, not without a fight. I love you too damn much." Clark said, looking her deep in the eyes.

"You have to move on, it's over." Lana repeated, then Clark kissed her passionately and pulled back after.

"Look me in the eyes and tell me that didn't mean anything to you. Tell me that you're not in love with me." Clark said, taking Lana's chin and forcing her to look him in the eyes.

"It didn't mean anything." Lana paused and gathered up all her strength. "I don't love you." Lana said, Clark released his grip and stood there in complete shock. "Goodbye." Lana walked away, using all the courage she possessed not to cry. Clark stood there in shock, not knowing what to do. He then dropped to his knees and put his head in his hands.

There is freedom within, there is freedom without
Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup
There's a battle ahead, many battles are lost
But you'll never see the end of the road
While you're traveling with me

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
We know they won't win

Now I'm towing my car, there's a hole in the roof
My possessions are causing me suspicion but there's no proof
In the paper today tales of war and of waste
But you turn right over to the T.V. page

Now I'm walking again to the beat of a drum
And I'm counting the steps to the door of your heart
Only shadows ahead barely clearing the roof
Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief

Hey now, hey now
Don't dream it's over
Hey now, hey now
When the world comes in
They come, they come
To build a wall between us
Don't ever let them win

Lana drove away from the farm as fast as she could, trying to hold her tears in for a couple seconds longer. Then she finally pulled over on a side road, got out of her car. "NO! NO!" She screamed and kicked her car door as hard as she could. She kicked it until she finally gave up and fell against the side of the car, tears flowing rapidly down her cheeks.
