Sg-1 and Sg-11 went through the gate. Sam agreed that the temple was the first place to go considering she could get a soil sample just about anywhere. It was obvious no one regularly traveled to this planet the stargate was in the middle of a jungle. There was no signs of current civilization, but it was also unclear how big the planet was, and it could easily just be an area no longer inhabited. Birds were flying over head, strange bugs were all over and everyone hoped they weren't venomous. The temple hadn't been to far, and Daniel quickly made out that it was a Gou'ald dialect.
Teal'c helped with the translation, as Sam dug soil samples and Michelle photographed the glowing plant life mentioned. It wasn't quiet it had usual jungle sounds, but no large wild life seemed to be around, and no advanced species have appeared.
Teal'c and Daniel have figured out that it was a temple for Cronus. Sam and Jack relaxed.
"This is very old dialect, Teal'c and I don't have it totally down, but it's very much the same as the myths back on Earth." Daniel claimed.
"Alright so nothing to see here?" Jack asked.
"No not really." Daniel stated.
"I mean I would still like to record it see if there is something more, but this seems to line up with what we already know." Daniel claimed.
Sam and Michelle kept researching and documenting, as well as Daniel. Teal'c Robert and Jack kept an eye out around the area.
"I wonder what happened to them." Robert claimed.
"You shouldn't have asked." Jack said quickly as Daniel made his way over and explained the downfall of Cronus and the likely hood they all got slaughtered by another system lord. It took Daniel about an hour to explain and Jack's hangover headache was starting to come back.
Sam smiled and Daniel's explanation. Jack frowned which made Sam laugh.
"No giggling Carter." Jack warned.
Sam nodded her head and went back to work. There was only about 6 hours of daylight on this planet and the although the planet had 2 suns they we're a lot further away than the one earth had.
Sam had been amazed by the high levels of Naqudah, and the feeling she got from it. She would have slight feeling of it's presence when off world in a mine, but this was something else. It was an even greater feeling when coming across someone. It was tingly all over like when your foot falls asleep. She had asked Teal'c if he felt the same way and he agreed that the feeling he had was different than any he had ever had. Physically Sam didn't feel better or worse her energy was fine, and she felt that if it had been an issue her Teal'c would be showing signs by now, other than the tingly feelings they had.
Sam and Daniel had been doing some digging and she had talked to Michelle about the plant life that they had been seeing. After initial data, Sam concluded that semi-recently in the last 5000 years or so a very large volcano or even an astroid hit the planet and settled a large dusting of naqudah at least in this region of the planet. Sam had no other explanation. Daniel and Michelle both thought it was a good theory, but that meant there was no way to mine it, they would just have to dig it up, and it would be difficult to do so, it would ruin the planet and the glowing plant life on it. And although it is a high concentration Sam would have to explain how the dust wouldn't be as good as mining it even though there were high amounts.
The plan was to stay overnight observe the plants, help Daniel with any translation, although it was pretty straight to the point.
Michelle and Robert were taking the first shift Sam had the tent with Michelle, Robert Jack were rooming together and Teal'c and Daniel. Sam had tried to go to sleep but couldn't the tingling that she felt all day was overwhelming and wouldn't allow her to sleep. Her Jack were taking the second shift, and Jack could immediately tell something was off.
"You okay Carter?" Jack asked.
"Mmm, just can't sleep." Sam stated.
Jack knew there was more to it, but let it go, he knew if something was wrong Sam would say something.
Sam observed the plants and Jack had even gone on about how beautiful they were. There was a blue like flower that had thin pedals that reminded them both of daisies. There was normal grass that didn't have a glow to it. There were also these bright green thick blades tall grasses in clumps. Then there was some purple glowing moss on some of the tree sides. It reminded them they were far from home.
Sam smiled over at Jack and although they were keeping an eye on the area they were also leaning into each other holding hushed conversation not to disturb their teams. The wind was low and sent shivers only when it blew the actual temperature was quite warm but the wind so chilly. Jack put his arms around Sam, and she smiled at his warmth.
"Thanks." Sam stated.
"Anytime." Jack claimed.
As there time to switch with Teal'c and Daniel came, Sam knew she wouldn't be able to rest. The tingling felt even worse now. When Teal'c had came out Sam asked if the feeling had gotten worse for him. He claimed that they have not, and she shook it off and went back to her tent. Sam laid there feeling almost as if she had drank a whole pot off coffee all at once but with no engery extremely jittery, her heart felt like it was beating out of her chest. She didn't want to alarm anyone, so she quietly walked out of the tent, to Daniel and Teal'c back towards the temple, she didn't know how much longer she could stay upright.
"Colonel." Sam stated.
Jack jumped up causing Robert to wake up as well, and Jack stepped out of the tent.
"Carter what is it?" Jack asked.
"The Naqudah it's making me feel..." Sam started but it was too late she was falling forward into him.
Jack grabbed her and yelled for Teal'c and Daniel.
"T, you feel okay?" Jack asked.
"I feel different." Teal'c explained.
Jack sighed.
"Carter said something about the naqudah before she passed out."
"Major Carter asked me earlier if it felt stronger than normal, and indeed it does, it feels as if my whole body is aware of the high amounts of naqudah.
"Leave the stuff, we'll come back for it later, lets head for the gate." Jack stated.
Jack didn't want to risk Teal'c passing out as well, so he and Robert carried Sam who was passed out on a stretcher, her heart beat was frantic but not out of control.
"Why didn't either one of you say something?" Jack asked Teal'c.
"There was no reason to be alarmed it's a stronger than normal feeling and difficult to explain to someone who has never felt it. I did not know that Major Carter or I would react so poorly. It seems the longer were here the stronger the feeling grows. " Teal'c explained.
Luckily the gate isn't too far but Teal'c had obviously slowed down and seems to be unable to keep up the last leg but he makes to the gate as Daniel puts in the gate coordinates, and puts in his IDC code. Daniel waited for Teal'c to go through before walking through himself.
Jack called for a med team. General Hammond ran down to the gate room.
"What the hell happened?"
"Teal'c and Major Carter had an adverse reaction to the high amounts of naqudah, sir." Jack stated.
"Alright go to the infirmary get everyone checked out. Get yourself cleaned up, briefing when your ready Colonel." General Hammond claimed.
Just a few minutes off the planet and in the infirmary Sam came around.
Jack had heard Sam, rouse and went over to see her. Janet was already there.
"You okay Carter?" Jack asked.
"I think so, sir." Sam claimed she sat up.
"Sam, you need to stay laying down." Janet warned.
Sam smiled and slowly set her head back down.
"Is it okay for him to stay?" Janet asked.
"Yeah." Sam agreed.
"Okay so what happened exactly." Janet asked.
"While we were on the planet the feeling I get when Naqudah is around was more than I've ever felt before, but it wasn't painful or anything. It was just different. I asked Teal'c if he had felt it as well and he said he had. I didn't feel any change in temperature or heart rate or anything so I continued. As the day progressed it almost felt tingly all over my whole body." Sam claimed.
"Tingly?" Janet asked.
Jack scowled.
"Like when your foot falls asleep, but not as bad." Sam claimed.
Janet nodded.
"Then when we went to bed, the feeling was too strong to sleep, I was okay when we were doing watch but I laid back down again and felt jittery, that's when I informed the Colonel, and that's the last thing I remember." Sam claimed.
"She passed out, and I ordered everyone back to base. Teal'c told me he was feeling different and by the time we got to the gate he barely made it couldn't keep up." Jack stated.
Janet nodded.
"Alright well I am assuming that it has to do with the naqudah for now I'll run the blood tests, maybe do a CT scan and go from there." Janet claimed and quickly went to were Teal'c was leaving Sam and Jack alone.
"You scared the crap out of me Carter." Jack admitted.
"I'm sorry if I thought for a second I would pass out, I would have told you before hand," Sam admitted.
"I know." Jack smiled.
Jack held her hand. She gave it a squeeze.
"Well, General Hammond wants an explanation, so I am going to shower and I'll be back as soon as I can." Jack claimed.
Sam smiled at him again.
"I'm fine, go." Sam stated.
Jack nodded, he showered and scrubbed his face. His adrenaline had wore off and even though they knew what caused Sam to pass out, it still scared him. He had these feelings anytime anyone got hurt on his team or any other team he was out with. Daniel had been out getting dressed, and Jack hadn't even realized someone else was in the locker room with him.
"You okay?" Daniel asked.
"I'm fine Daniel." Jack claimed.
Daniel simply nodded.
They got to the briefing room, and even Teal'c had been allowed to go as long as he would go check in with Janet afterwards.
They discussed what had happened on the planet. Michelle had made mention of what Sam thought about the Naqudah and how there was no way to mine it. Michelle then went on about the plants, and everyone agreed that they should go back minus Carter and Teal'c to get the needed supplies and head back through the gate.
Jack suited back up, it was in and out, nothing too it, or so he hoped.
When they walked back through he wondered what it was that Sam and Teal'c felt when they got on the planet the first time. He looked around for any signs of life, but there wasn't any. Maybe the the Gou'ald could not handle the amount of Naqudah and that is why they aren't here.
They got back to there camp set-up and tore it down. Grabbed all of their things, quickly all in all it took the four of them two hours, and they headed back with the samples and their gear in tow.
Jack immediately went back to the infirmary, looking for Sam.
She was sitting up with a dinner tray.
"Honestly, I'm fine." Sam said before Jack even said a word.
He smiled.
Janet came in.
"You're adrenaline was through the roof when we got your blood chemistry was all over the place, and now it seems everything is slightly elevated but much better." Janet claims.
"When can I get out of here?" Sam asked.
"Hard to say Teal'c was fine and his blood results were similar, but he's staying on base." Janet explained.
"I just want to go home." Sam complained.
"I'd prefer if someone stay with you." Janet claimed eye balling Jack.
Jack smiled.
"I think I can handle a sleep over at the Carter residence." Jack stated.
"Well now, that's settled, let me get one more lab result that I'm waiting on and as long as it's clear you're good." Janet claimed.
Sam nodded, relieved she wouldn't spend another night in the infirmary.
Jack smiled at her glad she was really okay, if Janet was letting her go home that meant she wasn't worried about her.
Jack let his shoulders drop and relaxed.
"Go get some work done, I'll be fine." Sam claimed.
Jack nodded.
"If you need company." Jack stated.
"I know, I'll call Daniel." Sam joked.
Jack smiled and walked back towards his office.
Jack and Daniel were talking when Janet came through Jack's office door.
"I wanted to let you know Colonel she is all clear." Janet claimed.
"I told her what she needs to do as far as precautions, and I want you to call me if she seems off. I want her back here first thing in the morning for testing, and prefer she not drive." Janet claimed.
"Of course doc, anything else?" Jack asked.
"Just make sure she rests, and doesn't do the 1000 things she plans on doing." Janet smiled.
Jack smiled back knowing how little sleep Sam got and how she was always jumping one project to the next.
"I'll try but you know I can only do so much." Jack claimed.
Janet smiled knowingly and walked back towards the infirmary.
